Updated October 31, 2026 · win rates checked October 31 in Season 88 (Shocktober), after the October 6 and October 19 balance updates. Season 89 starts November 2, and Supercell says it won't introduce balance changes at the start of the November season, though it may adjust after the World Finals (November 6–8).
Quick answer: The best Xbow deck for most players is the 3.0: X-Bow, Evo Tesla, Evo Archers, Hero Knight, Skeletons, Ice Spirit, Fireball and The Log. RoyaleTracker lists it at 59.9% over 5.5K battles, the largest sample of any X-Bow list it tracks. No Hero Knight? A plain Knight in the same slot shows 63.3% over 977 battles. Place X-Bow one tile from the river in front of your Crown Tower, and protect it instead of replacing it.
X-Bow got a damage buff in October and players still call it dead. Both reactions have something behind them. As a card it sits in the middle of the Ranked table, while its best-tuned lists post far higher numbers on RoyaleTracker's deck page.
This guide covers the lists worth copying, which Evolutions matter, where to place X-Bow, what beats it, and what Season 89 changes.
Is X-Bow good in Clash Royale right now?
It's average as a card and strong in practiced hands. RoyaleTracker's win condition tier list, updated October 30 and built on 12,062,650 Ranked battles from the last three weeks, puts X-Bow at 49.5% with 1.9% usage, B tier and almost exactly on the 49.46% baseline. For comparison, Lava Hound leads at 53.0%.
Now compare that with the top lists below, which reach 60% or more. RoyaleTracker publishes no date window or player population for its deck pages, so treat those as a snapshot. Our read is that X-Bow rewards practice and an exact list, so don't expect 60% on your first night.
Two 2026 patches shaped the current version. The October 6 patch raised X-Bow damage from 58 to 61, with Supercell's note reading: "We're buffing weaker conditions to put them on par with the best tower-takers in the game." Before that, the August 4 update slowed its hit speed from 0.3s to 0.4s and raised damage from 43 to 58, a stat swap meant to stop it wasting shots at the edge of its range.
Player opinion is split. In an October 6 thread, one r/ClashRoyale player wrote that the buff "does nothing" because Earthquake, Lightning, Goblinstein and Royal Giant remain popular. In another thread, a player said they reached Ultimate Champion with 3.0 and finish in the top 10,000 "pretty much every season i want to."
Current numbers at Level 11, using Supercell's damage and hit speed and the Clash Royale wiki for the rest:
| Stat | Level 11 |
|---|---|
| Elixir / rarity | 6 / Epic |
| Hitpoints | 1,600 |
| Damage | 61 every 0.4s (about 152 per second) |
| Range | 11.5 tiles |
| Deploy time | 3.5s |
| Lifetime | 30s |
| Targets | Ground only |
| Unlock | Arena 10 (Hog Mountain) |
Against a full Level 11 Tower Princess (3,052 HP, per the wiki), that's 51 shots, or about 20 seconds of uninterrupted fire. So one X-Bow doesn't need to survive its entire lifetime to win a tower, but it does need far more than a few seconds. X-Bow has no Evolution or Hero form.
What is the best X-Bow deck right now?
These are the most useful lists from RoyaleTracker's X-Bow page, which tracks 30 lists, checked October 31, 2026. All eight of each deck's cards are shown:
| Deck | Cards | Avg Elixir | Win rate | Battles |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 3.0 (most played) | X-Bow, Evo Tesla, Evo Archers, Hero Knight, Skeletons, Ice Spirit, Fireball, The Log | 3.0 | 59.9% | 5.5K |
| 3.0, plain Knight | X-Bow, Evo Tesla, Evo Archers, Knight, Skeletons, Ice Spirit, Fireball, The Log | 3.0 | 63.3% | 977 |
| 3.0, Electro Spirit | X-Bow, Evo Tesla, Evo Archers, Knight, Skeletons, Electro Spirit, Fireball, The Log | 3.0 | 61.0% | 2.1K |
| Rocket 3.3 | X-Bow, Evo Tesla, Evo Archers, Hero Knight, Skeletons, Ice Spirit, Rocket, The Log | 3.3 | 63.8% | 715 |
| Rocket 3.3, Electro Spirit | X-Bow, Evo Tesla, Evo Archers, Hero Knight, Skeletons, Electro Spirit, Rocket, The Log | 3.3 | 59.7% | 2.2K |
| Icebow | X-Bow, Evo Tesla, Evo Knight, Ice Wizard, Skeletons, Rocket, The Log, Tornado | 3.5 | 62.1% | 980 |
| Icebow, Hero Ice Wizard | X-Bow, Evo Tesla, Evo Knight, Hero Ice Wizard, Skeletons, Rocket, The Log, Tornado | 3.5 | 57.4% | 3.3K |
Our pick is the 3.0 with Hero Knight. Its 5.5K battles make it the most reliable number on the page, even though smaller samples show higher percentages. The Rocket version is the best alternative if you keep losing the last 300 tower HP, because Rocket gives you a spell finish that Fireball can't. It costs two more Elixir, though, so it cycles back to X-Bow more slowly.
Picking between Hero Knight and plain Knight is closer than it sounds. On otherwise identical cards, plain Knight shows 63.3% and Hero Knight 59.9%. We wouldn't read that as proof plain Knight is better, as one sample is nearly six times larger and the pilots may differ. It does mean you shouldn't delay this deck to save 200 Hero Coins.
If you want a slower, more defensive game, Icebow trades pure cycle for control: Ice Wizard slows pushes and Tornado pulls troops off your X-Bow. It's the harder deck to play, and it needs a higher arena, because Tornado unlocks at Arena 15 and Ice Wizard at Arena 12.
Which Evolutions matter most in an X-Bow deck?
Evo Tesla and Evo Archers are the standard pair, and the bigger point is that you want two Evolutions. Compare these 3.0-style lists from the same RoyaleTracker page:
| Evolutions | Rest of the deck | Win rate | Battles |
|---|---|---|---|
| Evo Tesla + Evo Archers | Hero Knight, Skeletons, Ice Spirit, Fireball, The Log | 59.9% | 5.5K |
| Evo Tesla only | Hero Knight, Archers, Skeletons, Electro Spirit, Fireball, The Log | 49.1% | 468 |
| Evo Archers only | Hero Knight, Tesla, Skeletons, Ice Spirit, Fireball, The Log | 46.5% | 355 |
The two single-Evolution rows are small samples, but both fall below 50%. Other pairs also hold up in small samples: Evo Archers + Evo Skeletons at 64.3% over 336 battles, and Evo Tesla + Evo Knight at 62.7% over 453. If you only own one, add a second Evolution before committing to this deck.
Both need two cycles to charge, and two Evolutions fit because one uses your Evolution slot and the other uses the Wild slot, which opens at Arena 10. Hero Knight takes the third special slot. His Triumphant Taunt costs 2 Elixir and, like every Hero ability since the August 4 update, fires once per deployment, so save it for the push that would otherwise reach your X-Bow. More on that in our Hero Knight guide.
- Evo Tesla releases a pulse on arrival that deals damage and stuns enemies for 0.5 seconds in a 6-tile radius, per the wiki. Supercell cut pulse damage from 174 to 148 in May, saying it wanted the Evolution "better defined by its stun mechanic." Tesla itself went to 25 seconds of lifetime and 1,182 HP in June.
- Evo Archers have 1 extra tile of range and a Power Shot that hits units 4 to 6 tiles away. That shot dropped from 168 to 140 damage on August 4. They also hit air, which X-Bow can't.
One more swap to avoid: the only list on the page running Barbarian Barrel instead of The Log shows 42.4% over 580 battles. Barbarian Barrel dropped to 215 damage on October 6, while The Log deals 268, enough to clear Princess and Dart Goblin at the same level.
Where should you place X-Bow?
For attack, place it one tile from the river, directly in front of your Crown Tower. The wiki says this maximizes its reach and forces melee troops to walk onto your side, into your tower's range. You can stagger it one tile left or right, but any further and X-Bow can no longer reach the enemy Crown Tower.
Don't drop it three tiles back from the river. At that distance, 6-range cards such as Musketeer, Firecracker, Flying Machine and Evo Archers can snipe it.
On defense, put it behind or between your Crown Towers. It can still hit approaching troops from there while staying protected, and its long range melts small units like Goblins, Spear Goblins, Archers, Wall Breakers and Skeletons. That makes a defensive X-Bow worth trying against swarm-heavy decks.
How do you play the 3.0 X-Bow deck?
Treat it as a cycle deck with an expensive punch. Going back to X-Bow costs as little as 7 Elixir: Skeletons 1, Ice Spirit 1, The Log 2 and a 3-Elixir card.
- Open cheap. Cycle Skeletons or Ice Spirit in the back, and watch what your opponent shows. Don't start with X-Bow, because its 3.5-second deploy gives them time to answer.
- Commit when they're out of position. The best moments are just after they spend big, or when the spell that answers your X-Bow has just been played. Remember that a last-second distraction will stop it locking on, so expect one.
- Tank for it. Place Knight in front so X-Bow isn't taking the hits. Cheap tanks work best here because you've already spent 6 Elixir.
- Keep the lock. Use Skeletons to pull a single attacker away (their spawn spread changed on both October 6 and October 19, so re-test your placements), Ice Spirit to freeze for a moment, and Tesla to catch whatever reaches the building. Fireball and The Log clear support behind it.
- Use Tesla's pulse well. The stun lands on arrival, so wait until the enemy is inside the radius before you play it. Tesla also hits air, which covers X-Bow's biggest weakness.
- Spell cycle when you're ahead. Once you've taken a tower lead, send Fireball and The Log at their Crown Tower. Fireball deals 159 to towers after the September 8 nerf and The Log deals 35, so this is slow work, but it's still a clean way to finish.
If you're coming from 2.6 Hog Cycle, the rhythm is similar. The difference is that your win condition stands still, so it's easier to target and easier to protect.
What beats X-Bow, and how do you handle it?
Cheap spell damage and fast building-targeters are your problem matchups. The damage numbers below are Level 11 values from the wiki, shown against X-Bow's full 1,600 HP. It also loses about 53 HP per second as its lifetime runs down.
| Threat | Why it hurts | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Earthquake (3 Elixir) | 861 total to buildings, 54% of X-Bow, for half the cost | Keep Tesla back and don't stack buildings in one spot |
| Lightning (6 Elixir) | 1,057 damage, 66% of X-Bow | Commit right after it's been used |
| Rocket (6 Elixir) | 1,484 damage, which kills any X-Bow that has been up for about 2 seconds, for an even Elixir trade | Play your next X-Bow in the other lane |
| Hog Rider, Ram Rider | They jump the river, and X-Bow can't shoot them mid-air | Tesla and Skeletons, not your X-Bow |
| Royal Giant | Has the range to contest X-Bow and keeps over half his health, per the wiki | Skeletons and Evo Archers, then pressure the other lane |
| Balloon, Lava Hound, Minion Giant | X-Bow only targets ground | Tesla and Evo Archers |
| Electro Giant | Zap Pack hits back at X-Bow once he's close enough, per the wiki | Don't let X-Bow be the only thing shooting him |
Players disagree on how bad the spell matchups are. In a thread on Tombstone and Lightning into X-Bow, one player called it a hard counter "even if you played correctly." Another replied: "You can switch lanes. It absolutely does not hard counter." The same player added that you should defend X-Bows lightly, because killing them costs the opponent more. We agree with the lane-switch camp. Overcommitting is what turns a 54% Earthquake into a lost game.
What does Season 89 change for X-Bow decks?
Nothing changes on the card itself so far. Supercell has no balance pass planned for the start of the King vs. King season, though the meta can still shift around these lists, and adjustments are possible after the World Finals on November 6–8. Four things are worth watching:
- X-Bow gets its turn in Week 5. In the official King of Cards schedule, X-Bow is boosted in Week 5 alongside Miner, Graveyard and Goblin Drill. The event runs November 9 to December 7.
- The Siege & Chip Challenge runs November 30 to December 7. Supercell hasn't published its rules, so we don't know if X-Bow decks will be pre-built or how it scores.
- Expect more Giant. Evo Giant arrives this season, and Supercell says Giant and Mirror stay boosted all season. We'd expect more of him on the ladder, and he walks straight at buildings. He goes for the nearest building, so Tesla only pulls him if it's closer to him than X-Bow. Play it before he gets there.
- Evo Mirror lands in the Shop from week 2. X-Bow has no Evolution, so mirroring it gives you the base Mirror effect at 1 extra level.
If you prefer a cheaper siege option, there's also our Evo Mortar deck guide.
Can you use X-Bow on Trophy Road?
Yes, from Arena 10, though The Log waits until Arena 11 (Electro Valley), which starts at 3,400 trophies. At Hog Mountain, use Zap in that slot. It's the same 2 Elixir, though it won't clear Goblins the way The Log does.
Getting the deck ready is the bigger job. Trophy Road hands out 6 Evo Archers shards before Arena 10, so Evo Tesla, which also takes 6 shards, is the real gate. A single missing Evolution is also the difference between the top and bottom rows of the Evolution table above. If you don't own both, we think Hog Cycle is the better climb.
FAQ
What is the best Xbow deck in Clash Royale? The 3.0: X-Bow, Evo Tesla, Evo Archers, Hero Knight, Skeletons, Ice Spirit, Fireball and The Log. RoyaleTracker shows 59.9% over 5.5K battles as of October 31, 2026, the largest sample on its X-Bow page.
Why is it called 3.0 X-Bow? The name comes from its average Elixir cost. The eight cards total 24 Elixir, and 24 divided by 8 is 3.0.
Does X-Bow have an Evolution or Hero form? No. As of October 31, 2026, X-Bow has neither. Evolutions do matter in the deck, but they go on Tesla and Archers.
Can X-Bow hit air troops? No, it only targets ground units. Tesla and Evo Archers cover air, so keep one of them available when your X-Bow is down.
Can you reach Ultimate Champion with X-Bow? Yes, according to players in r/ClashRoyale who report doing it with 3.0 this season. It takes practice though, and the card's overall 49.5% Ranked win rate is a reminder that most X-Bow games don't look like the top lists.
Was X-Bow buffed in October 2026? Yes. The October 6 balance update raised its damage from 58 to 61. The October 19 update didn't touch it.
