Marco "Snappi" Pfeiffer has been moved to Ninjas in Pyjamas' inactive roster, ending a 19-month run as the organisation's in-game leader. The move was made on 31 August 2026 and leaves NIP with three players on its active list, a stand-in and a coach heading into the back half of the season. It is the largest of a cluster of Danish roster moves that landed inside 72 hours, alongside BBL Esports signing its first Counter-Strike roster and the retirement of a decade-long veteran.
Snappi out after 19 months as NIP's caller
Snappi joined NIP on 15 January 2025 as part of a wholesale rebuild, arriving from Team Falcons on the same day the org picked up Rasmus "sjuush" Beck from HEROIC and signed Rafael "arrozdoce" Wing and Michel "ewjerkz" Magalhães. He was the team's captain for the duration of that spell.
The departure matters more for what it leaves behind than for the name itself. NIP's active list is now sjuush, Kacper "xKacpersky" Gabara and Martin "stavn" Lund, with Roman "n0te" Hamze still listed as a stand-in — a role he has held since 22 June 2026 — under coach Richard "Xizt" Landström. stavn only arrived on 15 April 2026. In practice the org is carrying three players on the active list outside the stand-in, and no caller, which makes a further signing a near-certainty rather than a possibility.
It is NIP's third change of in-game leader since September 2024. Gareth "MisteM" Ries was the IGL before Snappi and was benched on the same January 2025 date that Snappi arrived; the org has also parted with Artem "r1nkle" Moroz, Artem "cairne" Mushynskyi and ewjerkz across 2026, sending r1nkle to G2 and cairne to fnatic.
BBL Esports buys into CS2 with the ex-Echo Danes
A day earlier, on 30 August, BBL Esports fielded a Counter-Strike roster for the first time, signing the five Danes who had been competing unsigned as Echo: IceBerg, NickyB, Boye, leakz and salazar. The group played together under the Tricked banner before that organisation wound down its CS operation, and had been running without org backing since.
The Turkish organisation announced the pickup on its own channels with the line "From North to South," a nod to the geographic mismatch between its roots and its new roster. The signing also brings a ranking position with it: Valve's most recently published global regional standings, dated 3 August 2026, list Echo at 42nd with 1,289 points, keyed to exactly that five-man roster. Because Valve's standings are tied to the player core rather than the logo, a roster carries the invite equity it built while unsigned into whichever organisation signs it.
hAdji calls it a career
Also on 31 August, Ali "hAdji" Haïnouss announced his retirement from active play. The 30-year-old French-Moroccan rifler spent roughly a decade in the server across a long list of organisations including Team Envy and its academy side, 3DMAX, Team LDLC, Team Falcons and Monte, and finished his playing days with illwill. He never reached a Major stage.
In his announcement he said he is "forever grateful to all the organizations and teams that gave me a chance," and he has signalled he would like to stay in Counter-Strike in a non-playing capacity.
Smaller moves across the same window
The churn ran deeper than the headline names. Team Wimok assembled a new lineup on 31 August around Itachje, mtjpapi, Olicsa, Will and K1RM4, with Crush as head coach and Django as assistant. Sangal benched Patsi the same day.
On 1 September, WhiteBIT Team signed DemQQ, s4ltovsk1yy, Smash and tyr1k, with assistant coach Psycho converting to the active roster as the fifth player, while the previous five — svemyy, fl1peR, tired73, marat2k and NxStep — were shifted down to WhiteBIT Academy. Metizport parted ways with Dragon, who had been out of the starting five since April. Calamity returned to Farmville after a short stint with Club 333, and Svedjehed joined Johnny Speeds.
The freshest entry came on 2 September, when Virtus.pro's academy side VP.Prodigy was effectively dismantled: MRcreed and Sm1th departed, coach JACKPOT left, and TriBorgg1, lasfas and rokilan were all moved to inactive in a single announcement. FlyQuest added aliStair on the same day.
What is not happening
Two things are worth stating plainly because they set the context for all of the above. Valve has not shipped a Counter-Strike 2 gameplay update since 24 August 2026 — the Steam news feed for the app shows no release in the nine days since — so none of this movement is a reaction to a balance change. And no S-tier or A-tier event concluded in the same window; the Esports World Cup finished on 23 August with Team Spirit beating FUT Esports, and nothing at that level has run since.
What is coming is BLAST Open Porto 2026, which resumes on 4 September with Team Falcons against G2 and FURIA against Vitality in the quarter-finals. Spirit and MOUZ hold semi-final byes into 5 September, and the grand final is a best-of-five on 6 September. NIP are not in that field, which is precisely why the org has a window to solve its IGL problem before the calendar tightens again.
