Valve shipped a Counter-Strike 2 update on 2 October 2026 at 22:24 UTC — six items, all filed under a single [ MISC ] heading, with no gameplay, economy or map-pool changes. The headline change for anyone who owns gloves is that agents now wear them in the buy menu. The patch also fixes a grenade-crosshair rendering bug introduced by the game's new crosshair system, and it puts one word into Valve's own patch notes that has never appeared there before: photobooth.
The 2 October CS2 patch notes, line by line
Valve's six lines, in its own wording:
- Agents now wear their equipped gloves during the photobooth photography sessions and in buy menu
- Fixed grenade crosshair rendering when crosshair thickness is set to 3 pixels
- Fixed formatting of titles in commend and report dialogs
- Improved lighting in the Warehouse map
- Updated workshop convars whitelist with the new crosshair settings
- Stability improvements
Every item sits under one [ MISC ] heading, as on 28 September; the 25 September build split its notes across three headings and the 30 September build across two.
Gloves now show up where you buy them
Equipped glove skins were not shown on the agent model in the buy menu, so the most expensive cosmetic many players own was invisible at the moment they were picking a weapon. That is now fixed, in the buy menu and in what Valve calls photobooth photography sessions. It is a visibility change only — nothing about glove drops, trade-ups or market behaviour moved.
The photobooth gets its first mention in a patch note
"Photobooth" appears exactly once in the 451 announcements Valve has posted to the official Counter-Strike Steam news feed since 14 August 2012, and that once is the 2 October note. Valve does not define the term there, and no blog post explains it.
Community coverage since the Rush Hour update has described an in-game photography feature built around the chickens players began keeping after the 22 September build, with agent and bird posed together plus scenes and filters. That is reported, not official: the word "pet" appears nowhere in Valve's announcement archive, and the 25 September build's only related line was that "the eggs of background players in main menu lobbies now rest in nests." That coverage predates this build. What the glove line confirms is only that photobooth sessions are something Valve is patching.
Warehouse is the menu background, not a new map
This is the line most likely to be misread. Warehouse is not a new map and not a Rush arena: it is one of the main-menu and item-inspect background sceneries, added under the 6 February 2024 notes' UI heading — “Added "Baggage" and "Warehouse" as options for the main menu and item inspect background maps”.
Valve has done this job before. The 13 June 2024 notes read “Fixed lighting bugs in Main Menu Scenery maps Warehouse and Nuke”, and an April 2024 build adjusted lighting in the inspect background maps as a group. The 2 October line is housekeeping on background art that has been in the client since February 2024, not a reveal. It is also absent from the fifteen Rush arenas we catalogued in our CS2 Rush mode explainer.
The crosshair fix is cleanup on the September overhaul
The grenade-crosshair line patches the crosshair overhaul that landed on 22 September and was extended on 30 September with an outline colour option, a Static Quadrant style, grenade crosshairs during freeze time and a changed share-code format. Setting thickness to exactly 3 pixels broke how the grenade crosshair drew; that is now fixed.
The second crosshair item is for server operators rather than players: the workshop convars whitelist was updated for the new crosshair settings. Saved codes that still will not load are not addressed here — see our running coverage of why old CS2 crosshair codes stopped working.
Seven updates in eleven days
The 2 October build is the seventh post titled "Counter-Strike 2 Update" in eleven days, after 22, 23, 24, 25, 28 and 30 September. The run began with the Rush Hour update, which shipped Rush, silent reloads, a rewritten Premier map-selection process and the crosshair rework in one drop. Every build since has been fixing its edges — clipping and pixel gaps in Rush rooms, crosshair behaviour, and now rendering and lighting. None of the six follow-ups added a weapon case, touched the Armory or moved the map pool.
FAQ
What changed in the CS2 update today? Six items, all under [ MISC ]: gloves now render in the buy menu and in photobooth photography sessions, a grenade-crosshair rendering bug at 3-pixel thickness is fixed, commend and report dialog titles were reformatted, Warehouse got a lighting pass, the workshop convars whitelist was updated for the new crosshair settings, and there are stability improvements.
Is there a new map in CS2? No. The only map named in the notes is Warehouse, and that is the main-menu and item-inspect background scenery Valve added in February 2024, not a playable map. Valve last fixed lighting bugs in it in June 2024.
What is the CS2 photobooth? Valve has not documented it. The 2 October note is the first patch note in the whole announcement archive to use the word; community coverage from late September describes an in-game photography feature for posing your agent alongside a chicken.
Did the CS2 update fix crosshair codes? No. The only crosshair items are a rendering fix at 3-pixel thickness and a workshop convar whitelist update. Codes saved before the 22 September overhaul are not addressed.
