Team Liquid have parted ways with offlaner Ace, the organisation announced on its official Dota 2 X account on 13 September 2026. The Danish player departs after eleven months with the club, leaving Liquid with four players on the active roster and an empty position three going into the new season.
"Today we say goodbye and thank you to @AceDota," the post read, thanking him for "a year full of nerdy theory crafting, more trophies to your cabinet, and unfair paddle games". Liquipedia logged the departure the same day, listing no new team for him.
Team Liquid's Dota 2 roster after Ace's exit
Ace — Marcus Folke Hoelgaard Christensen — joined Team Liquid on 9 October 2025 and played position three for the whole of the season that followed, including The International 2026 in Shanghai. Liquipedia lists his leave date as 13 September 2026 with no destination listed.
That leaves four names on Liquid's active roster:

tOfu arrived on exactly the same day as Ace, 9 October 2025. Liquid rebuilt two of five positions last autumn; one of those two signings has now been undone, while the captain stays.
Ace's year at Liquid
Ace is an established name, not a developmental signing. He is a veteran of the European scene who came up through Danish teams — Meet Your Makers and Danish Bears among them — before stints at Cloud9, Team Secret and Ninjas in Pyjamas. His strongest run came with Gaimin Gladiators, where he won the Lima Major and the Berlin Major back to back in the 2022–2023 season, with tOfu — his captain at Liquid this past season — at position four on both runs. Liquipedia lists Centaur Warrunner, Broodmother and Underlord as his signature heroes.
At Team Liquid he played offlane in a lineup with real pedigree behind it. The organisation won The International in 2017 and again in 2024, and Ace joined too late for either. Of the names still at the club, only miCKe, Nisha, Boxi and the two coaches were there for the 2024 win, and the 2017 title predates all five of them.

Ace's exit was not even the only announcement of the morning. Ten minutes before Liquid's post, BetBoom Team moved midlaner gpk to inactive — "most likely until the New Year", in his own words, though he added plainly: "I'm not retiring! Not a chance." Later the same day, BetBoom said coach boolk was stepping back for a few months to spend time with family.
The preceding ten days had already thinned out several rosters. OG made three post-TI releases on 9 September — Yopaj, Raven and TIMS. The Xtreme Gaming roster came apart on 4 September, with NothingToSay, fy, xNova and Xxs all released. That club has since moved in the other direction, signing Xm, zeal, XinQ and BoBoKa on 11 September.
The most severe case remains Team Falcons' Dota 2 exit in early September, which freed five players at once. One of them, Cr1t-, announced an indefinite break rather than joining another team — a player who came up alongside Ace in the early Danish Dota scene.
The result is a free-agent pool full of players who were on stage at The International last month, and Ace now joins it.
What to watch next
The open question for Liquid is what kind of offlaner they want. The other four positions are filled: miCKe and Boxi are approaching seven years at the club, Nisha nearly four, and tOfu has been captain since last autumn. That makes this a single-slot decision rather than a rebuild, and the club can afford to be specific about who fills it.
Liquid have not commented on a replacement, and no incoming player has been logged against the roster. Until the organisation says otherwise, any name attached to the slot is speculation.
