The Aldor Scryer switch is the 84,000 reputation swing from Hated with one Shattrath faction to Exalted with the other. From $120.59 to clear the defection alone, $241.19 for the whole thing.
Why anyone does it: the two factions are mutually exclusive, and their Exalted Greater Inscriptions are shoulder enchants that stay best-in-slot for the rest of the expansion. Aldor sells Greater Inscription of Discipline (+18 spell power, +10 spell crit), of Faith, of Vengeance (+30 attack power, +10 crit) and of Warding. Scryers sell Greater Inscription of the Orb (+12 spell damage, +15 spell crit), of the Blade, of the Oracle and of the Knight. Pick the wrong side at level 62 and your spec is stuck with the wrong enchant.
The exact grind:
- Aldor to Scryer — Dampscale Basilisk Eyes from Terokkar basilisks, 8 per turn-in for 250 rep to Arcanist Adyria in Lower City;
- Scryer to Aldor — Dreadfang Venom Sacs from Terokkar spiders, 8 per turn-in for 250 rep to Sha'nir in Lower City;
- either way that is 168 turn-ins and 1,344 items to climb the 42,000 rep out of Hated and back to Neutral;
- only then do the normal tokens work again — Sunfury Signets or Marks of Sargeras at 250 rep per ten, and Arcane Tomes or Fel Armaments at 350 rep each. That is another 42,000 rep, or roughly 120 tomes, to reach Exalted.
How long it really takes: the defection half alone is 25 to 40 hours of camping Terokkar mobs, and Neutral to Exalted adds another 20 or so. Marks of Kil'jaeden and Firewing Signets are the cheap low tokens and they stop counting at Honored, which is where most self-farmers stall.
