Escape from Durnholde

Escape from Durnholde Keep - Old Hillsbrad's Thrall Escort and Questline

  • Thrall Escort Run
  • Questline Turned In

Escape from Durnholde Keep is the escort dungeon inside Old Hillsbrad Foothills, the first of the two Caverns of Time 5-mans buried under Tanaris. Normal is tuned for level 66-70; heroic needs a level 70 and the Key of Time bought from Alurmi at the Caverns. A clean clear runs 20-30 minutes and one run here is $19.04.

What the run actually is. Andormu points you at the instance and Erozion meets you at the end of the tunnel with a pack of incendiary bombs. The dungeon opens on Taretha's Diversion: plant 5 charges in the internment lodges scattered around Durnholde. Burning them wakes Lieutenant Drake, an optional boss almost every group kills for loot. Then you free a young Thrall from the basement cell and walk him out in three legs - through the keep gates past Captain Skarloc, across the hills into Tarren Mill, and finally to Taretha, where three waves of Infinite Dragonflight adds land before the Epoch Hunter drops in.

There is no clock on the run - Thrall is the clock. He tanks, he pulls ahead of the group, and he happily stands in Skarloc's Consecration. If Thrall dies the escort resets, which is how a 25-minute dungeon turns into a whole evening in a bad pug.

What it pays. The two in-instance quests, Taretha's Diversion and Escape from Durnholde, are worth 1,000 Keepers of Time reputation each, and the mobs add more on top: a normal clear lands somewhere around 900-1,300 total and a heroic clear around 2,000-2,800, depending on which community count you trust. Finishing the chain back at Andormu is what opens The Black Morass. On heroic, Wind Trader Zhareem in Shattrath's Lower City repeats Wanted: The Epoch Hunter's Head daily for roughly 24 gold plus 350 Keepers of Time and 350 Consortium reputation, and the heroic bosses drop the Bloodskull Destroyer, Aran's Sorcerous Slacks and the bind-on-pickup heroic gems such as the Dazzling Chrysoprase.

One unit is one full run with the questline turned in. A single clear completes the chain, so most buyers take exactly one. Extra runs are for the reputation bar and the Key of Time, which sits at Revered today and drops to Honored when the Phase 4 changes land. If the standing is all you care about, our Keepers of Time reputation listing prices the tiers directly rather than by the run - this page sells the dungeon and the quest chain. No attunement is involved anywhere: Blizzard pulled the Karazhan, Serpentshrine and Tempest Keep attunements off the Anniversary realms on August 27, 2026. Piloted by default, self-play if you want to be in the group, US realms first with EU on the region switch above, booked through timesaver.gg.

Frequently asked questions

  • Escape from Durnholde Keep is the 5-man dungeon inside Old Hillsbrad Foothills, the first Caverns of Time instance in Tanaris. It is an escort rather than a boss corridor: you burn 5 internment lodges, free a young Thrall from the basement of Durnholde Keep, and walk him to Taretha in Tarren Mill past Captain Skarloc and the Epoch Hunter. Normal is tuned for level 66-70.

  • About 20-30 minutes for a clean clear on either difficulty, which is why Escape from Durnholde is priced at $19.04 per run rather than by the hour. The escort legs are what set the pace - Thrall walks between Durnholde Keep and Tarren Mill at a fixed speed, so a geared group cannot compress the run much below 20 minutes.

  • The escort resets and you start it again. Thrall fights alongside the group through Escape from Durnholde and will happily stand in Captain Skarloc's Consecration, so the usual wipe is not a boss mechanic at all - it is Thrall bleeding out mid-leg. That single failure condition is the reason a 25-minute dungeon regularly eats a whole evening in a pug, and the reason people buy the run.

  • The two quests inside the instance, Taretha's Diversion and Escape from Durnholde, pay 1,000 Keepers of Time reputation each on completion. Trash and bosses add more, so a normal clear totals roughly 900-1,300 reputation and a heroic clear roughly 2,000-2,800 - community counts disagree, so treat those as ranges. Reputation is a by-product here; this page is priced as a dungeon run.

  • Yes. Heroic Escape from Durnholde requires a level 70 character carrying the Key of Time, the Caverns of Time heroic key sold by Alurmi next to the instance portals. The key currently needs Revered with the Keepers of Time and the requirement drops to Honored with the Phase 4 changes. Normal mode needs no key at all, only level 66.

  • No. The Blackened Urn chain that summons Nightbane runs entirely through Karazhan's Guardian's Library and then Kalynna Lathred at Area 52, finishing with book drops from the first bosses of heroic Sethekk Halls and heroic Shattered Halls. Escape from Durnholde is not a step in it. What the Old Hillsbrad chain opens is The Black Morass, the second Caverns of Time dungeon.

  • Yes. US TBC Anniversary realms are the default region on this page and are priced in USD at $19.04 per run, with EU on the region switch. Runs are scheduled around your evenings in ET or PT, the questline turn-ins are confirmed in writing when the run closes, and US live support is reachable for the whole time the order is open.

  • One, for most people. A single clear completes Taretha's Diversion and Escape from Durnholde and finishes the chain at Andormu, so 1 run at $19.04 is the whole job. Order more only if you want the Keepers of Time bar pushed toward the Key of Time, or if you want the heroic daily Wanted: The Epoch Hunter's Head farmed repeatedly for its 24 gold and 350 reputation. The counter tops out at 20.
