Quick answer: The RSPR is the new compact SMG added in Battlefield 6 Season 5 on 13 October 2026 (Update 2.1.1.0). Third-party guide sites, not EA, report that it unlocks at Tier 11 of the Access Defied path in the Season 5 Battle Pass. On tracker data it has exactly the same damage and fire rate as the SG 553R carbine (35 damage up close, 720 rpm), with a 20-round magazine instead of 30 and faster handling. Its close-range time to kill is 167 ms, and only inside 10 m do three chest shots kill. It has the lowest control rating of all 11 SMGs on the tracker, and the best builds need weapon level 40 for the 28-round magazine. Players are also reporting a Single-Port Brake bug that EA has not acknowledged yet.
Below: what EA has confirmed, the SG 553R and SCW-10 comparison, the full SMG table, the best build at each weapon level, and what the brake bug actually does.
What is the RSPR in Battlefield 6?
The RSPR is one of four weapons that went live with Season 5: Siege of Vegas, alongside the Mk 24, the Z84M and the ELR-40. It is the only new SMG in the first phase of the season.
EA has described it twice, and the two descriptions do not use the same class name. The Season 5 roadmap lists it as the "RSPR Submachine Gun" and says: "An SMG with the characteristics of a rifle, combining a steady rate of fire with high damage. Its smaller magazine and heavier recoil require more control, placing it between the SG 553R and SCW-10 in terms of performance."
The Update 2.1.1.0 notes call it something else: "The RSPR is a highly compact, short-range Personal Defence Weapon with major stopping power from its rifle cartridge. It performs better at longer ranges than most Personal Defence Weapons, but its higher recoil demands careful control from operators looking to make the most of its power."
That is all EA has said. As of 18 October 2026, EA has published no damage, fire rate, velocity or recoil figures for the RSPR, and its weapon roster page still has no RSPR entry. Every number below comes from the tracker Battlefinity (RSPR data last updated 16 October 2026) and is labelled as third-party. Damage figures are for chest and neck hits; stomach and limb hits do less.
We first covered the gun before launch in our Season 5 new weapons guide. This is the full follow-up, and the last of the four launch guns to get its own guide, after the Mk 24 and the Z84M.
Is the RSPR really just an SG 553R with a 20-round mag?
On damage, yes, exactly. The sharpest reply in the r/Battlefield6 thread titled "Rspr" was this one: "The RSRP is literally just the SG553 with the option 20rd mag, the stats and the way they feel to play are basically identical."
We pulled the RSPR, the SG 553R and the SCW-10 from Battlefinity's weapon data. The damage tables are the same for all three guns:
| Stat (third-party, Battlefinity) | RSPR | SG 553R | SCW-10 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Class | SMG | Carbine | SMG |
| Fire rate | 720 rpm | 720 rpm | 800 rpm |
| Bullet velocity | 453 m/s | 483 m/s | 398 m/s |
| Base magazine | 20 rounds | 30 rounds | 15 rounds |
| Chest damage, 0-10 m | 35 | 35 | 35 |
| Chest damage, 10-20 m | 26 | 26 | 26 |
| Chest damage, 20-35 m | 20.6 | 20.6 | 20.6 |
| Chest damage, 35-75 m | 17.2 | 17.2 | 17.2 |
| Stomach and limb damage, 0-10 m | 29.8 | 29.8 | 29.8 |
| Aim-down-sights time | 167 ms | 200 ms | 167 ms |
| Reload | 2.33 s | 2.5 s | 2.6 s |
| Mobility rating | 68 | 60 | 64 |
| Control rating | 39 | 40 | 47 |
So the player is right about the SG 553R. Same bullets, same fire rate. What changes is the frame around them: the RSPR aims 33 ms faster, moves better (68 mobility against 60) and reloads quicker, but carries 10 fewer rounds and fires slightly slower bullets.
A second reply in the r/Battlefield6 thread "Thoughts on the RSPR?" made the other half of the point: "Stat-wise, it's an SG 553 (same damage and RoF) which trades a lower mag size for SMG handling. Or, it's an SCW10 (same damage) which trades a slightly lower rate of fire for larger mags."
That is EA's roadmap description, proven line by line. "Between the SG 553R and SCW-10" is literal: the RSPR shares the damage of both, the fire rate of the carbine, the aim speed of the SMG, and a magazine and velocity that sit between the two.
The SG 553R is an Assignment unlock (DANGER CLOSE 2) and the SCW-10 is CLOSE QUARTERS 1, per EA's roster. If you already have either, you already know how the RSPR kills.
RSPR vs SCW-10 vs SG 553R: which kills faster?
Battlefinity's chest-hit time-to-kill figures for the Battlefield 6 multiplayer versions:
| Range (third-party) | RSPR | SG 553R | SCW-10 |
|---|---|---|---|
| 0-10 m | 167 ms | 167 ms | 150 ms |
| 10-20 m | 255 ms | 254 ms | 233 ms |
| 20-35 m | 361 ms | 358 ms | 334 ms |
| 35-75 m | 477 ms | 472 ms | 446 ms |
| Kills per magazine, 0-10 m (perfect chest hits) | 6 | 10 | 5 |
The SCW-10 wins every band by 17 to 31 ms, because 800 rpm beats 720 rpm with identical damage. The RSPR's case against it is the magazine: six kills per mag up close against five, with perfect chest hits, and 55 m/s more bullet velocity for the longer lanes. The SG 553R matches the RSPR's TTK almost to the millisecond and carries ten more rounds, but you give up the SMG handling.
How does the RSPR compare with every other SMG?
This is where EA's "performs better at longer ranges than most Personal Defence Weapons" gets tested. Battlefinity also averages TTK across three wider range buckets, which is why these figures (which include bullet travel time) differ slightly from the per-band numbers above. This is a selected comparison of 10 of the 11 SMGs; we left out the CZ3A1 because its tracker averages do not match its own per-band data.
| SMG (third-party) | Magazine | TTK 0-10 m | TTK 10-40 m | TTK 40-80 m | Control |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| RSPR | 20 | 175 ms | 361 ms | 557 ms | 39 |
| SCW-10 | 15 | 159 ms | 336 ms | 531 ms | 47 |
| KV9 | 17 | 174 ms | 334 ms | 538 ms | 60 |
| SGX | 30 | 226 ms | 416 ms | 648 ms | 57 |
| PW5A3 | 30 | 242 ms | 439 ms | 675 ms | 59 |
| PP-19 | 30 | 259 ms | 389 ms | 661 ms | 54 |
| USG-90 | 50 | 273 ms | 421 ms | 560 ms | 57 |
| SL9 | 30 | 275 ms | 485 ms | 729 ms | 65 |
| UMG-40 | 30 | 293 ms | 479 ms | 612 ms | 54 |
| PW7A2 | 30 | 317 ms | 429 ms | 531 ms | 61 |
Three things stand out:
- EA's long-range claim holds, mostly. Past 40 m the RSPR beats six of the nine other SMGs here, the USG-90 by just 3 ms. Only the SCW-10 and PW7A2 (531 ms) and the KV9 (538 ms) are faster.
- Up close it is third. Only the SCW-10 and KV9 are faster in the 0-10 m bucket, and both have smaller magazines.
- The cost is control. At 39, the RSPR has the lowest control rating of all 11 SMGs on Battlefinity. The next lowest is the SCW-10 at 47. That is EA's "higher recoil demands careful control" in one number.
One caveat: Battlefinity's figures for most of the older SMGs were last updated in July 2026, while the RSPR and SGX entries are from 16 October. For how the older guns rank on recoil and velocity, see our best SMG rankings.
Do headshots matter with the RSPR?
Barely. Using Battlefinity's per-band damage (100 health, chest hits unless stated):
- 0-10 m: three chest shots kill (105 damage). Two headshots plus a chest shot also takes three, so headshots never save a bullet here. But stomach and limb hits do 29.8, and three of those (89.4) need a fourth shot.
- 10-20 m: four chest shots kill. You need three headshots (108.9) to save one bullet.
- 20-35 m: five chest shots kill. Two headshots plus two chest shots deal 99.2, one point short. Only three headshots save a bullet.
- 35-75 m: six chest shots kill. Two headshots plus three chest shots deal 99.6, short again. Once more, three headshots save one bullet.
This is why the "Thoughts on the RSPR?" thread complained that "The 3 shot kill distance is so short you practically need to be within breath smelling distance." The three-shot band ends at 10 m. The same poster noted that "hitting the stomach or limbs at close range immediately bumps up the TTK a noticeable amount", and the numbers agree. The RSPR rewards consistent chest hits, not flicks to the head, so aim at the upper torso and fight the recoil to stay there.
How do you unlock the RSPR?
Third-party sites report the RSPR as a reward at Tier 11 of the Access Defied path in the Season 5 Battle Pass. Gfinity lists it that way, alongside the Mk 24 at Tier 11 of Audacious Breach, the Z84M at Tier 11 of Fate's Reckoning and the ELR-40 at Tier 5 of the Recruit Path, and says "all four weapons are free and do not require purchase."
EA has not confirmed that for the RSPR. Its own Battle Pass page says: "Free Season 5 Battle Pass items include the CDX-40 Sniper Rifle, the MRGG-A Assault Rifle, and the PKM Machine Gun." Those are internal names, and none of them is an SMG. So EA's own free list covers three guns that look like the ELR-40, Mk 24 and Z84M, and says nothing either way about the RSPR. Treat "free" as likely but unconfirmed until EA publishes the tier list.
How the path works, per EA: "Complete the Recruit Path, then switch between four paths to earn your most-wanted items." Finish the Recruit Path first, then pick Access Defied and work up to Tier 11. Our Season 5 Battle Pass guide covers the path structure in full.
Timing matters this week. In a Steam announcement on 16 October, EA extended the Steam Free Trial to "Tuesday, October 20 at 5 PM UTC" and added: "we are extending the 2x XP weekend to Tuesday as well. Level up your Career Rank, your weapons and unlock the Battle Pass Tiers even quicker!" EA does not give a separate end time for the 2x XP window, but both the Battle Pass tiers and the RSPR's weapon levels move at double speed until it closes.
What is the best RSPR loadout?
All three of Battlefinity's top multiplayer builds use the full 100 attachment points, and all three need weapon level 40, because all three take the 28RND Magazine. Point costs and unlock levels are third-party.
Versatile RSPR build (level 40)
- Muzzle: Long Suppressor (25 points, level 16)
- Barrel: 11" Rifle (5 points, level 8)
- Underbarrel: Slim Angled (20 points, level 25)
- Magazine: 28RND Magazine (35 points, level 40)
- Ammunition: FMJ (5 points, level 0)
- Optic: Mini Flex 1.00x (10 points)
Battlefinity rates this its top build and describes the gun as "a true jack-of-all-trades SMG." The same parts also top its close-range list. The Long Suppressor and Slim Angled grip are there to tame the 39 control rating, and the 28-round magazine lifts the theoretical maximum from six kills per mag to nine.
Long-range RSPR build (level 40)
- Muzzle: Long Suppressor (25 points, level 16)
- Barrel: 11" Rifle (5 points, level 8)
- Underbarrel: Ribbed Vertical (20 points, level 17)
- Magazine: 28RND Magazine (35 points, level 40)
- Ammunition: FMJ (5 points, level 0)
- Optic: RO-M 1.75x (10 points)
The low-zoom optic and vertical grip are for Vegas Strip's mid-range streets, where the RSPR beats most SMGs. Past 40 m, remember that the SCW-10 still kills faster on paper.
Before level 40: the build to run while you grind
Run the base 20RND Magazine (level 0) and the same frame: Long Suppressor at 16, 11" Rifle at 8 and the Ribbed Vertical at 17. The Ribbed Vertical arrives eight levels before the Slim Angled, so it is the grip to use from 17 to 25. Early on, the Standard Suppressor (level 4) and Folding Vertical (level 5) are the first useful unlocks.
One player correction while we are here. The "Thoughts on the RSPR?" thread said "The 30 round magazine requiring 35 points and level 40 to unlock makes grinding this gun a major PITA." The cost and level match Battlefinity, but the magazine holds 28 rounds, not 30. There is no 30-round option on the RSPR.
For how the 100-point budget works across every gun, see our guide to attachment points in Battlefield 6.
What level do RSPR attachments unlock?
The levels that decide the builds above, from Battlefinity's list of 56 attachments:
| Weapon level | Attachment |
|---|---|
| 0 | 20RND Magazine, Flash Hider, FMJ, R-MR 1.00x |
| 4 | Standard Suppressor |
| 5 | Folding Vertical |
| 7 | Single-Port Brake |
| 8 | 11" Rifle barrel |
| 16 | Long Suppressor |
| 17 | Ribbed Vertical |
| 20 | 20RND Fast Mag |
| 24 | Lightened Suppressor |
| 25 | Slim Angled |
| 34 | Hollow Point |
| 36 | Classic Vertical |
| 39 | Aftermarket Buffer |
| 40 | 28RND Magazine |
The short version: you need weapon level 40 before any recommended build is complete. EA publishes no Hardware XP figures, so nobody can honestly tell you how many hours that takes. Players have also reported a per-minute weapon XP limit since Season 5 launched, which EA has not confirmed.
Is the RSPR Single-Port Brake bugged?
Players say so, and EA has not responded yet. Three r/Battlefield6 posts this week describe the same thing. One, titled "5Pts Brake Attachment bugged on the new RSPR (New Laser Gun?)", says: "When you select the 5Pts Single-Port Brake on the RSPR, the Control stat increases incredibly, while the Precision stat drops to zero, it turns into an absolute laser. And this happens exclusively with the Single-Port Brake; it does not occur with the Double-Port Brake, Compensated Brake, or any other attachment."
A reply in a second thread quoted a datamine claiming the brake applies two recoil modifiers instead of one, for "a 7-tier recoil improvement", and "59 Control compared to 53 with a classic vertical". That is a community datamine, not an EA figure, so treat the exact numbers as unverified.
What we can confirm is the negative. As of 18 October 2026, the Single-Port Brake is not mentioned in the 2.1.1.0 notes or in any of EA's Steam announcements since launch. The only Season 5 attachment EA has publicly switched off is a different one: in launch week it temporarily disabled the Underslung Mount on the Mk 24, and said so on r/Battlefield6.
Two practical points if you are tempted:
- Expect a fix. A stat this far out of line usually gets patched quietly. Do not plan your long-term build around a bug.
- It is not free. Players point out that brakes mark you with a 3D spot when you fire, which suppressors and flash hiders do not. One thread argued the RSPR still "tends to perform significantly worse than flash hiders and suppressors simply due to how insane 3D self-spotting of a drawback is." That trade-off is player-reported, not documented by EA.
Is the RSPR good in REDSEC?
It might have a quiet edge there, though that is our reading, not something EA has said. In REDSEC, Update 2.1.1.0 made both of the RSPR's damage twins take an extra bullet against armour: "7.62x39mm Carbines (SG 553R) now take one more bullet to kill vs armor within 31m" and "10mm SMGs (SCW-10) now take one more bullet to kill vs armor between 9m and 85m."
The RSPR is not named anywhere in that armour list, and EA does not say which cartridge it uses. EA's dev note explains the thinking: "heavy-handed, targeted nerfs on these weapons (while potentially cathartic) would inevitably lead to similar weapons like the NVO-228E, KV9, and RPK-74M immediately filling their respective voids." A new gun with the same damage table, missing from that list, looks like the kind of weapon that note warns about. Nobody has published armour testing for the RSPR yet, so treat any advantage as a hypothesis until someone does.
Should you use the RSPR?
- Use the RSPR if you liked the SG 553R but want SMG movement and aim speed, and you mostly fight between 10 and 40 m. It beats most SMGs at range.
- Use the SCW-10 if you live inside 10 m. Same damage, 800 rpm, and faster at every range on paper. You give up five rounds and the better velocity.
- Use the SG 553R if you want the same TTK with 30 rounds and do not mind slower aim and movement.
- Skip it if you struggle with recoil. Its 39 control rating is the lowest of any SMG, and the build that fixes it needs level 40.
Battlefinity rates the RSPR A Tier among SMGs, with a 1.3% pick rate, well behind the S-Tier SGX at 3.9%. That is low for a gun this strong past 40 m. Our read is that the grind explains a lot of it: the magazine that makes it work is the last thing it unlocks.
Want a level-40 RSPR without the Hardware XP grind? The 28RND Magazine sits at weapon level 40, Tier 11 of Access Defied comes before any of that, and the 2x XP window closes on 20 October. Our Battlefield 6 services take both grinds off your hands.

FAQ
How do you unlock the RSPR in Battlefield 6? Third-party guide sites report it as a reward at Tier 11 of the Access Defied path in the Season 5 Battle Pass, which you can pick after finishing the Recruit Path. EA has not yet published the full tier list.
Is the RSPR free? Probably, but EA has not confirmed it. Gfinity says all four Season 5 launch weapons are free. EA's own list of free Battle Pass weapons names a sniper rifle, an assault rifle and a machine gun, but no SMG.
What is the best RSPR loadout? Battlefinity's top build is Long Suppressor, 11" Rifle barrel, Slim Angled grip, 28RND Magazine, FMJ and the Mini Flex 1.00x optic. It needs weapon level 40.
Is the RSPR the same as the SG 553R? On tracker data, the damage and fire rate are identical. The RSPR has a 20-round magazine instead of 30, aims 33 ms faster, moves better and reloads quicker, with slightly slower bullets.
What is the RSPR time to kill? With chest hits, 167 ms within 10 m, 255 ms at 10 to 20 m, 361 ms at 20 to 35 m and 477 ms at 35 to 75 m, per Battlefinity. Stomach and limb hits are slower.
Is the RSPR Single-Port Brake bug real? Several players report that the Single-Port Brake gives the RSPR far more recoil control than intended, and a community datamine backs that up. EA has not acknowledged it as of 18 October 2026, so expect a fix.
Does the RSPR have a 30-round magazine? No. Its largest magazine on Battlefinity is the 28RND Magazine, which unlocks at weapon level 40 and costs 35 points.
Applies to Battlefield 6 Season 5: Siege of Vegas, Update 2.1.1.0, checked on 18 October 2026. Stats are third-party until EA updates its weapon roster.
