Applies to: Battlefield 6 on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S. Season 5: Siege of Vegas launches October 13, 2026. Weapon descriptions taken from EA's "Season 5 Roadmap: The Siege of Vegas Begins", published October 9, 2026. Live build is Game Update 1.4.3.5; the governing ballistics baseline is Game Update 1.3.3.0.

Quick Answer

  • Four new weapons arrive at Season 5 launch on October 13: the Mk 24 Assault Rifle, the RSPR Submachine Gun, the Z84M Light Machine Gun and the ELR-40 Bolt-Action Sniper Rifle.
  • EA has published no unlock route for any of them. The roadmap article never uses the words Assignment, Career Rank or unlock, and the Battle Pass page was still serving Season 4 on October 10. The real answer should arrive with the update notes around October 12, EA's usual day-before-launch pattern.
  • The ELR-40 has a specific number to beat. EA claims "the furthest sweet spot in its weapon archetype"; the deepest bolt-action sweet spot in the live game reaches 133 m.
  • The RSPR is benchmarked across two different weapon classes. EA places this SMG "between the SG 553R and SCW-10", but the SG 553R is a Carbine.
  • Season 5 runs in three phases: Siege of Vegas on October 13, Casino Heist on November 10, Frozen Aces on December 8. More weapons land in the later two.
  • Gauntlet leaves the game on October 13, the same day the season starts.

Season 5's weapon reveal arrived completely detached from the weapon rules. EA wrote a paragraph of design intent for each of the four guns — what they are for, what they trade away, which map they suit — and said nothing about how you get them. Here is what EA committed to, what each weapon has to beat, and where the missing half of the answer will appear.

What are the four new Battlefield 6 Season 5 weapons?

EA introduces them in a single sentence: "Available at launch, Season 5 introduces four new weapons to help you tackle everything from close-quarters firefights to long-range engagements."

That is one weapon per engagement band, and the four are:

  • Mk 24 — Assault Rifle
  • RSPR — Submachine Gun
  • Z84M — Light Machine Gun
  • ELR-40 — Bolt-Action Sniper Rifle

Two corrections worth making early, because both are already circulating wrong. The names are Mk 24 with a space and Z84M — the roadmap graphic renders them in a compressed stencil face that reads easily as MX24 and 784M. And Season 5 does not add two Assault Rifles: EA names exactly one, the Mk 24. The RSPR is an SMG, and the confusion comes from EA's own description of it as having "the characteristics of a rifle".

Mk 24 Assault Rifle: what "lower capacity" actually costs

EA's description: "A lower-capacity Assault Rifle that trades magazine capacity for consistent performance and exceptional damage at range. With a steady rate of fire, the Mk 24 is built for players who value precision and effectiveness."

That is an unusual AR brief, because the Assault Rifle class is already the most crowded and most uniform in the game: eleven rifles on EA's live roster, mean recoil 31.13 degrees, and only the M433 unlocked by default.

What "exceptional damage at range" has to contend with is the 1.3.3.0 ballistics pass, still the governing baseline. EA stated plainly: "Bullet Drag has been increased by 40% across all weapons and by 100% when using Match Grade ammo." An AR built around long-range damage is entering a game that already made long-range shooting harder for every primary — which makes the Mk 24 less a damage upgrade than a drag-resistance play. Read it as a marksman-flavoured AR for Area 51's open sightlines, not a close-quarters rifle for Vegas Strip.

RSPR: EA benchmarks an SMG against a Carbine

EA's description: "An SMG with the characteristics of a rifle, combining a steady rate of fire with high damage. Its smaller magazine and heavier recoil require more control, placing it between the SG 553R and SCW-10 in terms of performance."

That final clause is the most informative sentence in the reveal, and it contains a quirk worth flagging: the SCW-10 is an SMG, but the SG 553R is a Carbine. EA is bracketing a new SMG between two classes, which tells you the RSPR sits in the gap between SMG handling and Carbine punch. Those two bookends, on current roster figures:

  • SG 553R (Carbine) — recoil 35.8 degrees, muzzle velocity 483 m/s
  • SCW-10 (SMG) — recoil 33.5 degrees, muzzle velocity 398 m/s

So "between the SG 553R and SCW-10" implies an RSPR around 34 to 35 degrees of recoil and roughly 400 to 480 m/s — our derivation from EA's comparison, not published RSPR stats, since EA has released no ballistics table for this weapon. Our count of EA's SMG roster puts the class mean recoil at 30.16 degrees, so the RSPR would kick noticeably harder than average, matching EA's warning that it needs "more control".

If you already run the SCW-10, the RSPR is the straight sidegrade: more damage per shot, fewer shots, less forgiveness. Our SMG rankings cover the current baseline.

Z84M: a 100-round box magazine in a nine-gun class

EA's description: "Built for close-range aggression, the Z84M combines a 100-round box magazine with high damage and a high rate of fire, making it effective against groups of enemies. That firepower comes with significant recoil and handling trade-offs, so keeping it under control is key."

The Light Machine Gun class is the smallest primary category in Battlefield 6 — nine weapons on EA's live roster, mean recoil 29.52 degrees, and only the L110 unlocked by default. It is also the class EA describes as "the largest in terms of average magazine capacity", so a 100-round box is in keeping rather than exceptional.

What makes the Z84M interesting is the stated combination: high damage and a high rate of fire and a 100-round magazine. Three advantages at once, which is why EA front-loads the warning about "significant recoil and handling trade-offs". Read it as a sustained-fire suppression tool for casino interiors and crowded streets — somewhere you can afford to be inaccurate for 100 rounds — rather than a general-purpose LMG. Our LMG rankings show where each of the nine currently sits.

ELR-40: the "furthest sweet spot" claim has a number to beat

EA's description: "Built for extreme long-range engagements, the ELR-40 features the best bullet drag performance and the furthest sweet spot in its weapon archetype, making it particularly well suited for the open sightlines of our new map, Area 51. A custom single-shot ammunition option completely changes its role, shifting that sweet spot into close range with functionality that longtime Battlefield players may find familiar."

This is the only one of the four where EA made a claim precise enough to check, and it is checkable because Game Update 1.3.3.0 narrowed every published bolt-action sweet spot in the game. The exact figures from EA's update notes:

RifleOld sweet spotNew sweet spotBand width
L115A3 (listed as L115)120-175 m100-133 m33 m
PSR100-150 m90-120 m30 m
M2010 ESR75-120 m75-100 m25 m
SV-9854-90 m54-75 m21 m

Two things follow. First, the deepest sweet spot currently in Battlefield 6 reaches 133 m, held by the L115A3. For EA's "furthest sweet spot in its weapon archetype" claim to hold, the ELR-40 has to clear that figure — so 133 m is the number to watch when the stats go live. That is our derivation from EA's published bands, not an EA statement about the ELR-40.

Second, the combined width of all four published bands fell from 186 m to 109 m in that one update — a reduction of 41.4 percent. Bolt-action sniping is operating on far tighter windows than it was before 1.3.3.0, which is what makes a "best bullet drag performance" rifle genuinely significant rather than a marginal addition. One caution: the Mini Scout has no published sweet-spot band at all, so any list ranking it against these four is inventing the number.

EA's closing sentence is a deliberate tease. A "custom single-shot ammunition option" that shifts the sweet spot into close range with "functionality that longtime Battlefield players may find familiar" is plainly a nod to a returning mechanic from an earlier Battlefield — but EA has not named it, and we are not going to pretend to know which gun it means. Our sniper rifle guide covers how sweet spots work in practice.

How do you unlock the Season 5 weapons?

Straight answer: nobody knows yet, because EA has not said. Worth stating plainly, because plenty of pages will assert an answer anyway. The evidence as of October 10:

  • EA's Season 5 roadmap article never uses the words Assignment, Career Rank or unlock. The only instance of "Battle Pass" on the page is the site navigation link.
  • The Battle Pass page was still serving Season 4 content, with no mention of the Mk 24, RSPR, Z84M or ELR-40.
  • There is no Game Update 1.4.4.0 page — the URL returns a 404, and the newest notes on EA's news index are still 1.4.3.5.
  • The roadmap graphic's disclaimer notes that some Season 5 content unlocks mid-season and some requires purchase and/or gameplay, confirming a mix of gating without saying which weapon falls where.

Precedent is more useful than a guess. Battlefield 6 currently gates 14 weapons behind Assignments rather than Career Rank, and that system only opens at Career Rank 10 for Class Challenges and Career Rank 13 for Weapon Challenges. Season 4's Battle Pass handed over exactly three free functional weapons. So the realistic shape of Season 5 is a split: some of the four through the Battle Pass, some through Assignment chains, possibly one via the seasonal event.

The decisive detail is timing. EA has consistently published season update notes the day before a season goes live, pointing to notes around October 12 — where the unlock table, the ballistics figures and the Battle Pass list should land at once.

One thing you can do now that is not a guess: if your Career Rank is under 13, raise it before launch, because Assignments are the most likely gate and that system is rank-locked regardless of which weapons sit behind it. Our Assignments guide lists all 14 current Assignment weapons, and our max level and Career Rank guide covers the ceiling.

What else Season 5 adds beyond the four weapons

Season 5 runs in three dated phases, which matters because not everything lands on October 13.

Siege of Vegas — October 13. Two new maps, Vegas Strip and Area 51. Rapid Royale, a faster REDSEC battle royale in Trios and Solos with smaller player counts and a "relentless Ring of Fire". A new Ranked BR season, REDSEC's Open Series, and Leaderboards for Multiplayer. The four new weapons. The Full Game Trial runs October 15 to 19.

Casino Heist Update — November 10. A new infantry-focused map, the European Casino, plus a limited-time Casino Heist event. The roadmap graphic also shows a Carbine, a new gadget and a new vehicle in this phase, none of which EA has described in prose yet.

Frozen Aces Update — December 8. Operation High Roller, plus two long-requested features in Platoons and Server Browser. Updated versions of Blackwell Fields and New Sobek City "based on community feedback", and the B-81 Cavalry vehicle. The graphic additionally shows a DMR and a melee weapon.

There is also a Halloween crossover: Dead Space returns via the Convergence Event, framed as "a dark discovery beneath Area 51". And one removal that is easy to misread — EA states: "With the launch of Season 5, Gauntlet will leave Battlefield 6." That is a mode leaving the lineup on October 13, with nothing said about whether anything tied to it stays obtainable.

For the balance changes already announced alongside Season 5, our Season 5 weapon balance breakdown covers the five existing weapons EA has named, and our Season 5 release date guide tracks the launch window itself.

Which of the four is worth levelling first?

On what EA has described, and the state of the current rosters:

  • ELR-40 — the only one with a stated best-in-archetype advantage, on a map built for open sightlines. Best bullet drag in a game that raised bullet drag 40 percent is the clearest value here.
  • RSPR — casino interiors and storm drains are SMG territory, and a harder-hitting SMG fits Vegas Strip better than the current roster.
  • Z84M — a 100-round magazine is a suppression tool, and suppression is situational.
  • Mk 24 — last for most players: the most crowded class in the game, and increased bullet drag works against its stated strength.

All four need Hardware XP to become useful, not just to unlock. Hardware XP is per-weapon and it is what gives you the attachments, Weapons Packages and camos — so a freshly unlocked gun is the worst version of that gun.

FAQ

When do the Battlefield 6 Season 5 weapons come out? All four — Mk 24, RSPR, Z84M and ELR-40 — are available at Season 5 launch on October 13, 2026. EA describes them as "available at launch", so none of the four is a mid-season unlock.

How do you unlock the Mk 24, RSPR, Z84M and ELR-40? EA has not published unlock requirements for any of the four as of October 10. The roadmap article never mentions Assignments, Career Rank or the Battle Pass in relation to them, and the Battle Pass page still showed Season 4. Expect the answer in the Season 5 update notes, which based on EA's pattern should arrive around October 12.

Is the ELR-40 better than the L115A3? EA claims the ELR-40 has the best bullet drag performance and the furthest sweet spot in its archetype, which would put it ahead on paper. The L115A3 holds the deepest published sweet spot at 100-133 m, so 133 m is the figure to beat. No ELR-40 stats have been published yet.

Does Season 5 add two Assault Rifles? No. EA names one Assault Rifle, the Mk 24. The RSPR is a Submachine Gun — the confusion comes from EA describing it as "an SMG with the characteristics of a rifle".

What are the new Season 5 maps? Vegas Strip and Area 51 at launch on October 13, with the European Casino arriving in the November 10 Casino Heist Update. Blackwell Fields and New Sobek City get community-feedback updates on December 8.

Skip the grind

Unlocking the ELR-40 or the Z84M is the easy part. Ranking it far enough to earn its attachments and Weapons Packages is where the hours go.
