BO7 & Warzone Camo Not Unlocking on a Maxed Weapon? The Cross-Mode Tracking Bug Explained + Every Working Fix (Season 5 Reloaded)

Quick answer (TL;DR): In most cases your Black Ops 7 or Warzone camo is not bugged — mastery camo challenges are tracked separately per mode. Black Ops 7 has 16 mastery camos, four in each of Campaign, Multiplayer, Zombies and Warzone, and finishing the Warzone ladder on a gun does not complete the Multiplayer ladder on that same gun (or vice-versa). Maxing a weapon's level also doesn't auto-grant camos — level and camo are two different tracks. The one genuine bug worth knowing: legacy Modern Warfare III / BO6 weapons carried into Warzone have a long-standing camo-tracking desync (present since the BO6 integration). The reliable fix for a truly stuck challenge is: unequip the camo, back out, hard-restart the game, and complete the challenge in the mode whose tab you're looking at. Full breakdown, per-mode ladder, and every fix below.

If you've maxed a weapon, slapped a mastery camo grind on it, gone 20 kills a match — and the tracker still reads 0/10 or the camo you "earned" in Warzone is greyed out in Multiplayer, you're not alone. This is one of the most-reported camo issues on r/CODWarzone and r/blackops7 right now, and 9 times out of 10 it's the camo system working as designed, not a broken save. This guide explains exactly how the tracking works across modes, which "bugs" are actually misconceptions, the one real cross-title bug that does exist, and the fastest way to get unstuck — all verified against Activision's camo breakdown and the in-game challenge text.

Why is my camo not unlocking in Black Ops 7?

Black Ops 7 has 16 mastery camos — four per mode (Campaign, Multiplayer, Zombies and Warzone), and per Activision's own camo breakdown the final camo in each mode is a reactive skin that animates when you fire. That "four per mode" detail is the single biggest source of the "my camo won't unlock" confusion, because each mode is its own separate challenge ladder on every weapon.

Here's what that means in practice:

  • Camos are tracked per mode, not per weapon. Doing the Multiplayer military camos on a gun does nothing for that gun's Warzone, Zombies or Campaign camos. You start each ladder from scratch.
  • Weapon level ≠ camo. Leveling a weapon to max unlocks its attachments, not its camos. You can have a fully maxed gun with zero mastery camos. Levelling and camo grinding are two different progress bars that happen to run at the same time.
  • You can't skip the ladder. Within a mode you must finish the military camos, then the special camos, in order. As PCGamesN notes, "you can only move onto the special camos once you've completed the military camos for your chosen game mode."
  • The tracker is per mode too. Pull up the pause screen in the mode you want the camo in to see real progress. Checking the Multiplayer tab while grinding Warzone will always look like it's "not tracking."

So before assuming a bug: confirm you're grinding the right mode's challenge and checking the right mode's tracker. If you unlocked, say, Golden Damascus in Warzone and expected it in Multiplayer — that's not how it works. Each mode is a clean slate.

Why does my Warzone camo not carry over to Multiplayer?

Because it isn't supposed to — with one important nuance. An unlocked camo is usable everywhere; the challenges are not shared. Once you finish a camo challenge, that camo skin can be equipped in any mode. But the work to unlock it (the challenge progress) lives inside the mode you did it in. Unlock Absolute Zero in Warzone and you can equip Absolute Zero anywhere — but the Multiplayer version of that gun's ladder is still empty.

The Warzone mastery ladder runs in this fixed order, per weapon:

OrderWarzone mastery camoChallenge (per weapon)
1Golden DamascusGet 3 kills in a single match, 5 times
2StarglassGet 5 kills without dying, 5 times
3Absolute ZeroGet 10 eliminations while in the Top 10
4Apocalypse (reactive)Unlock Absolute Zero on 30 weapons

BO7 weapon camo selection screen — each mode's mastery ladder is a separate track on the same gun

Two things trip people up here. First, Absolute Zero only counts eliminations you get once your match reaches the Top 10 squads — kills in the first 20 minutes of a Battle Royale add nothing, which is why the tracker sits at 0/10 and looks broken when it isn't (we cover this in depth in our dedicated Absolute Zero not-tracking guide). Second, the reactive pinnacle camo (Apocalypse in Warzone) is gated behind unlocking the tier-3 camo on 30 separate weapons, so it's normal for it to read "locked" for a long time.

The one genuine bug: legacy MWIII / BO6 weapons

Everything above is working-as-intended. But there is a real tracking bug, and it's the one blowing up r/CODWarzone this week: camo progress on legacy weapons carried in from Modern Warfare III and BO6.

Players report the same pattern: level a legacy gun (an MWIII or BO6 weapon) fully in Warzone, then try to run its camo challenges in Modern Warfare III multiplayer — and the challenge gets stuck and stops tracking entirely. As one player on the r/CODWarzone thread put it: "If you fully level up the gun in Warzone and then use it in MWIII MP it does not work." Another confirmed it's been around a while: "This bug's been there since the BO6 integration — I unlocked the base longshot camo for a sniper in BO6 Warzone, tried the gold camo in MWIII MP, and it bugged and got stuck ever since."

This is a cross-title progression desync, not a challenge you're doing wrong. Activision maintains a live Known Issues page for issues under investigation — if your stuck camo is on a legacy MWIII/BO6 weapon crossing titles, log it there via the in-game bug report so it's on their radar, and use the workarounds below in the meantime.

BO7 camo challenge progress UI — read the tracker on the tab for the exact mode you're grinding

How to fix a camo that's genuinely stuck

Run these in order. The first three clear the overwhelming majority of "stuck" trackers; the last two are for the real legacy-weapon desync.

  • Confirm you're grinding — and checking — the right mode. Open the camo menu, select the exact mode tab (Multiplayer / Warzone / Zombies / Campaign) you want the camo for, and read that tab's tracker. Most "not tracking" reports are a mode mismatch.
  • Unequip the camo, back out, and hard-restart the game. Remove the equipped weapon camo, exit to the main menu, then fully close and relaunch the game (not just the lobby). This refreshes the camo progression system and applies any queued unlock — the same fix that clears the Gridlock and BlackCell challenge stalls.
  • Check the Universal / All tab, then restart. A completed challenge sometimes sits queued and only appears after a restart. Look under the Universal tab first before assuming it failed.
  • For legacy MWIII/BO6 guns: do the challenge in that gun's home title's multiplayer. The desync hits when you build progress in Warzone and try to finish it in the legacy title's MP. Where possible, run the camo challenge inside the mode/title the weapon actually belongs to, in one continuous session, rather than bouncing between Warzone and MWIII MP.
  • Report it and grind a fresh weapon in the meantime. If a legacy gun is hard-stuck, file the bug on Activision's Known Issues form and pivot your grind to a current BO7 weapon whose ladder tracks cleanly — you'll make more progress than fighting a bugged legacy gun.

If none of that frees the camo and it's a current BO7 weapon (not a legacy import), that specific gun's challenge may be genuinely bugged — in which case a restart plus a fresh match usually forces the queued unlock to apply.

Is this the same as the Season 5 Reloaded "level reset"?

No — don't confuse the two. The Season 5 Reloaded level-reset is a client-side display bug where your rank/weapon levels look wiped after an update but your progress is intact (a restart restores it). The camo-tracking issue here is about challenge progress not counting, which is usually a mode-mismatch or a legacy-weapon desync — a different problem with different fixes. If your levels look gone, that's the display bug; if your camo challenge sits at 0, it's this one.

Fastest way to actually finish a mastery camo

If you just want the camo done before the grind window closes:

  • Stack the fastest modes. For weapon-level and per-mode military camos, high-kill playlists like Nuketown 24/7 chew through challenges — see our Nuketown 24/7 fast-XP guide.
  • Ride active Double XP windows. Weapon XP and camo progress compound during 2XP events; time your grind to them (and know the 2XP fixes if the event bugs out).
  • Do camos in the right mode from the start. Because ladders are per-mode, decide where you want the reactive camo and grind that mode only — don't split effort across modes expecting it to pool.
  • Skip the grind entirely. With Modern Warfare 4 launching October 23 (campaign early access from October 16), the BO7 camo window is short. Our BO7 mastery camo service and weapon leveling finish any track fast and secure so you keep the flex camo heading into MW4.

FAQ

Why is my camo not unlocking in Black Ops 7 even though I maxed the weapon? Weapon level and mastery camos are separate tracks. Leveling a gun to max only unlocks its attachments — camos require completing that mode's specific camo challenges. A maxed gun with zero camos is normal; you still have to run the camo ladder.

Do camo challenges carry over between Warzone and Multiplayer? No. Black Ops 7 has four mastery camos per mode (Campaign, Multiplayer, Zombies, Warzone) and each mode's challenge ladder is tracked separately per weapon. An unlocked camo can be equipped in any mode, but finishing the Warzone ladder does not complete the Multiplayer ladder on the same gun.

Is the Warzone camo tracking bug real or am I doing it wrong? Mostly the latter. Absolute Zero, for example, only counts eliminations after your match reaches the Top 10 — early kills add nothing, so it looks stuck at 0/10 when it's working. The genuine bug is on legacy MWIII/BO6 weapons carried into Warzone, where camo progress can desync and freeze — an issue reported since the BO6 integration.

How do I fix a camo challenge that's actually stuck? Unequip the camo, back out to the main menu, and fully restart the game — this applies queued unlocks and refreshes the progression system. Confirm you're checking the correct mode's tracker, and for legacy weapons run the challenge inside that weapon's home title rather than bouncing between Warzone and MWIII multiplayer.

Will my BO7 camos carry to Modern Warfare 4? Activision hasn't confirmed full camo carry-forward to MW4 (launching October 23, 2026, with campaign early access from October 16). Historically unlocked mastery camos have followed weapons across integrated titles, but treat cross-title camo carry as unconfirmed until Activision states it — which is why many players are racing to finish reactive camos in BO7 now.

Is the camo issue the same as the Season 5 Reloaded level reset? No. The level reset is a display bug where your rank looks wiped after an update but your progress is intact (a restart fixes it). The camo issue is challenge progress not counting — usually a mode mismatch or a legacy-weapon desync.
