TL;DR: Where is the Nemesis Lair in Diablo 4 Season 14, and how do you summon it?
Nemesis Lair isn't a named boss and has no permanent spot on the map. It's a rare portal roll that happens after you open an eligible Lair Boss Hoard with the Two by Two War Plans node allocated. The first portal throws you against 2 Initiate Lair Bosses. A second possible portal leads to 2 Greater Lair Bosses. Beat that Greater encounter and the Ultimate route costs 3 Superior Lair Keys, adds +5 Monster Power, and drops 10 Hoard Chests' worth of items.
Search results often lump Nemesis Lair in with the Corrupted Reaper. Don't. Reaper is Season 14's seasonal Lair Boss at a fixed location in Zarbinzet, while Nemesis comes from a Lord of Hatred War Plans perk. Here's the actual location, setup, portal chain, current cost, loot, and spawn troubleshooting for the live July 2026 rules.

What is a Nemesis Lair in Diablo 4?
A Nemesis Lair is a bonus multi-boss fight tied to the Lair Bosses Activity Tree in War Plans. Open a boss's post-kill Hoard and it can roll a portal to another room. Inside, two bosses attack together and drop extra gear.
Three upgrades run down the middle of the tree: Two by Two, Greater Nemesis, and Ultimate Nemesis. The first two steps rely on chance. After a successful Greater clear, the Call of Evil altar gives access to the Ultimate fight if you've allocated the final node and have the keys.
War Plans came with Lord of Hatred, not Season 14. Its playlist holds up to 5 activities (Blizzard's War Plans overview). Patch 3.1.0 renamed Betrayer's Husks to Superior Lair Keys, while 3.1.1 fixed the Corrupted Reaper interaction (official patch notes).
| Stage | How it opens | Encounter | Extra entry cost | Current modifier/reward |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Nemesis Lair | Low chance after opening an eligible Hoard with Two by Two | 2 Initiate bosses together | 0 extra keys | Great rewards; quantity not published |
| Greater Nemesis Lair | Chance after clearing Nemesis with Greater Nemesis allocated | 2 Greater bosses together | 0 extra keys | Great rewards; quantity not published |
| Ultimate Nemesis Lair | Call of Evil appears after the Greater clear | Ultimate boss encounter | 3 Superior Lair Keys | +5 Monster Power and 10 Hoard Chests' worth of items |
Those are the live node values (Maxroll). Any guide still listing 5 Betrayer's Husks is outdated. Ultimate now costs 3 Superior Lair Keys. Blizzard hasn't published a numeric portal chance, either, so treat percentages based on small player samples with caution.
Where is the Nemesis Lair boss located?
You won't find a Nemesis boss pin or dungeon entrance. Its portal appears inside the eligible Boss Lair where you opened the Hoard. Kill a normal Lair Boss, use the matching key on its reward Hoard, and look beside the chest for a red portal.
Corrupted Reaper became an eligible starting point after the July fix. Its own fixed lair is Pandemonium Threshold in Zarbinzet; see our Corrupted Reaper guide.
Blizzard's patch 3.1.1 notes state, “Fixed an issue where Nemesis Lair could fail to trigger in the Corrupted Reaper's Boss Lair.” (official Diablo IV patch notes). That's the distinction. Reaper's room can produce a Nemesis portal, but Reaper isn't “the Nemesis boss.”
The only fixed location involved in opening up this system is Temis in Skovos. Finish the Lord of Hatred campaign, then use the command table there (Blizzard's Lord of Hatred overview).
How do you unlock Nemesis Lairs?
Start by completing the Lord of Hatred campaign. Clearing Vessel of Hatred isn't the requirement, despite what several recycled guides claim. Then set things up like this:
- Go to the War Plans command table beside Tyrael in Temis.
- Reach Torment I to gain access to the Lair Bosses Activity Tree.
- Put Lair Bosses into War Plans to earn that activity's XP efficiently.
- Spend points down the center in order: Two by Two → Greater Nemesis → Ultimate Nemesis.
- Torment VI makes Greater Lair Boss objectives available on generated War Plan routes; this is separate from allocating the three Nemesis perks.
Each activity tree has 7 levels and gives 1 point per level. Progress is character-specific, so your alts don't inherit the tree from your main (updated War Plans reference).
The perks also work during standalone Lair Boss runs. Once allocated, the node enables the roll (current War Plans mechanics).
How do you summon a Nemesis Lair step by step?
There isn't a Nemesis sigil. You keep opening Hoards until the portal rolls.
- Empty your inventory first. Follow-up portals won't hang around while you inspect affixes.
- Confirm Two by Two is still allocated. Respec out of that node and the proc is disabled.
- Enter an eligible Boss Lair and kill the boss. Starting the fight doesn't consume a key. The key opens the reward Hoard (Blizzard's Lair Boss system notes).
- Open the post-kill Hoard. Doing so consumes the appropriate Lair Key and rolls Two by Two. A kill by itself isn't enough.
- Take the portal immediately. Kill the two Initiate bosses. If a Greater portal shows up, enter it before sorting loot.
- Kill the two Greater bosses. If Ultimate Nemesis is allocated, use the Call of Evil and pay 3 Superior Lair Keys.
- Clear Ultimate Nemesis. The fight adds +5 Monster Power and rewards ten Hoard Chests' worth of items.
No portal? Reset and go again. There is no published pity counter. Keep three Superior Lair Keys set aside for Call of Evil.

Which bosses can appear in a Nemesis Lair?
Two by Two gives you 2 Initiate bosses. The current Initiate tier contains 5 bosses: Urivar, Grigoire, Beast in the Ice, Echo of Varshan, and Lord Zir.
Greater Nemesis brings 2 Greater bosses. That tier currently has 4 bosses: Duriel, Andariel, Harbinger of Hatred, and Bloody Butcher. Andariel's arena control on top of another boss's burst can flatten a squishy build in seconds.
Don't build a strategy around one specific Ultimate lineup. The live node promises only a “Boss Encounter,” and Blizzard hasn't published a fixed roster. Any guide claiming a guaranteed trio is drawing too much from a clip.
The current Lair Boss overview tracks both tiers. You can't pick the pair, which makes normal Hoards the simpler option when you're targeting a particular Unique.
What does Nemesis Lair drop in Season 14?
Nemesis and Greater give their rewards directly, with no second Hoard key required. Blizzard hasn't published a Nemesis-only loot table. Patch 3.1.1 does confirm that Lair Boss sources can drop Mythic Uniques after the bug fix (Blizzard patch 3.1.1).
There is no guaranteed Mythic and no official Nemesis drop rate. “10 Hoard Chests' worth” describes the amount of loot. It doesn't mean ten physical chests or ten guaranteed Uniques.
Do Nemesis Lairs drop Pandemonium Fragments?
Pandemonium Fragments aren't part of the generic Nemesis rewards. Patch 3.1.1 raised Corrupted Reaper's payout to up to 2 Fragments, scaling with Torment. Blizzard Community Manager Marcoose's July 17 notes later increased its Mythic and Iconic Unique Item rates (official 3.1.1a post). See our Pandemonium Fragments guide.
Blizzard identifies Reaper as the best direct source for seasonal Mythics and Fragments (Season 14 overview). Saving three keys, meanwhile, pays for the Ultimate volume run. Neither route guarantees the item you want.

How do you beat the double-boss encounters reliably?
Treat Nemesis like a survival check. Bosses you know well become nasty when their floor effects stack.
- Cap defenses for your Torment. If one Greater boss nearly deletes you, two certainly can.
- Save Unstoppable and your panic button. Blowing every defensive on the first telegraph leaves you exposed to the second boss.
- Fight from the clean edge. Pull persistent pools outward, then rotate around the arena.
- Kill arena denial first. Focus whichever boss is blanketing the floor or chaining crowd control.
- Stagger deliberately. Pouring crowd control into one window buys space and can let you kill one boss before the overlap returns.
Run a strict loot filter. Players report that portals can disappear while they're sorting gear or visiting town (Diablo IV forum report). Their tested workaround is simple: step through first, then town-portal from the new instance before you start the fight.
What is the fastest Nemesis Lair farming loop?
Stockpile cheap keys. Kill the quickest eligible boss for your build, open the Hoard, reset, and repeat. Each opening gives you a roll, so raw clear speed matters more than picking an impressive target.
Burn Initiate Hoards for volume and hold rarer keys for the later steps. Extra Greater keys also let you farm that higher-tier fight while chasing the same portal chain.
Stick to these rules:
- Allocate all three center nodes before settling in for a long session.
- Begin with empty bags and a strict filter.
- Carry 3 Superior Lair Keys at all times.
- Step into every follow-up portal before checking the loot pile.
- Reset the completed instance before starting another run.
- Farm the highest Torment you can clear fast, not a tier where every boss takes five minutes.
Season 14 patch 3.1.1 also changed high-Torment Deathtoll Chambers to guarantee at least 1 Superior Lair Key. That's the straightforward refill when your Ultimate reserve is empty (official patch notes).
Why isn't the Nemesis Lair portal spawning?
Check these before cursing the RNG:
- Two by Two must be allocated on this character. Activity-tree progress doesn't carry over to alts automatically.
- You must open the Hoard. Killing a boss without spending the matching reward key can't roll a portal.
- Expect dry streaks. Blizzard calls it a “low chance” and has published neither the odds nor any bad-luck protection.
- Update the game. Patch 3.1.1 repaired the failed Nemesis trigger in the Corrupted Reaper's lair.
- Enter promptly. If a portal appeared and vanished, it expired. The roll itself didn't fail.
If Call of Evil appears but won't activate, verify that the final Ultimate Nemesis node is allocated and that you have three Superior Lair Keys. The altar showing up doesn't remove either requirement.
Is Ultimate Nemesis worth 3 Superior Lair Keys?
For sheer item volume, yes. Three keys pay for ten Hoard Chests' worth of loot. Run it if your build can cope with +5 Monster Power. If you're specifically hunting Mythics and Pandemonium Fragments, Blizzard points to Corrupted Reaper as the preferred direct source, so using three keys there may suit your goal better. Neither option guarantees a Mythic.

FAQ
Where is the Nemesis Lair in Diablo 4? It doesn't have a fixed map location. When Two by Two is allocated, opening an eligible Lair Boss Hoard has a low chance to spawn a portal beside it. The War Plans command table for getting the perk is beside Tyrael in Temis.
Do I need a key to summon the Nemesis Lair? Yes, you need the matching Lair Key for the first boss's Hoard because opening that chest rolls the portal. The initial Nemesis and Greater rooms don't charge extra keys. Ultimate Nemesis costs 3 Superior Lair Keys at Call of Evil.
Why am I not getting a Nemesis portal after killing bosses? The kill isn't the trigger. Allocate Two by Two on that character, open an eligible Hoard, and keep running bosses. Blizzard describes the chance as low but has never given a percentage.
Why can't I activate the Call of Evil altar? Check that Ultimate Nemesis is allocated and that your materials include 3 Superior Lair Keys. Greater Nemesis can take you into the room, but it doesn't grant access to the paid final fight.
Are Mythic Uniques guaranteed from Ultimate Nemesis? No. Lair Boss rewards can roll Mythics after the 3.1.1 fix, and Ultimate promises ten Hoard Chests' worth of items. Blizzard provides no guaranteed Mythic or Nemesis-specific drop rate.
Is Corrupted Reaper the Nemesis Lair boss? No. Corrupted Reaper is the seasonal Lair Boss at the fixed Pandemonium Threshold location in Zarbinzet. Its Hoard can roll a separate Nemesis portal, which is why guides often mention the two together.
