Diablo 4 Corrupted Reaper — a hulking corrupted demon boss erupting in its Pandemonium Threshold lair, the Season 14 seasonal Lair Boss (patch 3.1.0)

The Corrupted Reaper is the brand-new seasonal Lair Boss arriving with Diablo 4 Season 14, "Season of Death Awakening" (patch 3.1.0). It sits at the very end of the season's Pandemonium loot pipeline: clear Ruptures, farm Deathtoll Chambers, then cash in at the Reaper's Hoard for the best direct Mythic Unique drops in the game. This guide covers exactly where to find it, how to summon it, what opens its reward Hoard, the loot it drops, and how to farm it efficiently once the season launches on June 30, 2026.

Quick answer: The Corrupted Reaper spawns at the Pandemonium Threshold's entrance in Zarbinzet and is summoned at a Summoning Altar. You don't pay to fight it — you pay to open its reward Hoard, which (per the 3.1.0 PTR) requires Betrayer's Husks farmed from the Deathtoll Chamber at Torment I or higher. Its Hoard offers the best direct drop chance for Mythic Uniques and Mythic Unique upgrade currency of any Season 14 activity. Read on for the full location, fight, and farm breakdown.

⚠️ PTR / pending-live note: Mechanics below come from the 3.1.0 Public Test Realm (ran June 2–9, 2026), Blizzard's live 3.1.0 patch notes (Build #72578), and the June 23 Developer Update. Treat exact key costs and drop percentages as provisional until you're in-game on launch day — this guide will be updated once everyone is live in Season 14.

What is the Corrupted Reaper in Diablo 4?

The Corrupted Reaper is Season 14's seasonal Lair Boss — a rotating, season-specific boss that anchors the new Pandemonium endgame. Every Diablo 4 season ships a fresh seasonal mechanic and a capstone target; in "Season of Death Awakening," that mechanic is the Pandemonium Ruptures system, and the Corrupted Reaper is the payoff at the top of it.

Mechanically, it slots into Diablo 4's existing Lair Boss System: bosses you summon and then loot from a Hoard (the reward chest that spawns after the kill). What makes the Corrupted Reaper special is its drop table — Blizzard has positioned it as the single best direct source of Mythic Uniques and the currency used to upgrade them in Season 14. If you want to chase the season's strongest gear, this is the activity you build toward.

It's a brand-new entity, so don't confuse it with the Eternal-realm Lair Bosses (Duriel, Andariel, Belial, Mephisto) — the Corrupted Reaper only exists inside Season 14's seasonal realm and only while Pandemonium content is live.

Where is the Corrupted Reaper located?

Diablo 4 Corrupted Reaper location map — the Season 14 Lair Boss spawn circled southwest of Zarbinzet in Hawezar, near the World Boss Arena

The Corrupted Reaper is a fixed spawn at the entrance to the Pandemonium Threshold in Zarbinzet — the same southwestern corner of Hawezar that hosts the World Boss Arena (the Fields of Desecration sit just southeast of Zarbinzet). Once you've progressed the Season Campaign far enough to unlock seasonal content, the lair is easy to find and return to: it doesn't roam like a Realmwalker and it doesn't require a random rift to appear.

To actually summon the boss, you interact with a Summoning Altar inside the lair. We know the altar is the intended summon method because Blizzard's own live 3.1.0 patch notes call it out directly in a bug fix:

"Fixed an issue where the Pandemonium Threshold Boss Lair was missing a Summoning Altar, preventing players from summoning the Corrupted Reaper." — Diablo IV 3.1.0 Patch Notes, Build #72578 (news.blizzard.com)

That single line confirms three things straight from the source: the boss lives in the Pandemonium Threshold Boss Lair, it's summoned at a Summoning Altar, and the whole system shipped in Build #72578 for the June 30 launch.

How do you unlock and summon the Corrupted Reaper?

There's a clear unlock chain. None of it is bought — the gating is progression and consumables, not gold:

  • Reach Season 14 and start the seasonal questline. The Corrupted Reaper is unlocked through the Season Campaign, so you can't summon it on a brand-new character before you've done the seasonal story beats.
  • Hit Torment I or higher. Like the rest of the Lair Boss System, the Reaper's reward Hoard only opens for players at Torment I+. If you're still on the lower difficulty tiers, push your build until Torment unlocks.
  • Travel to the Pandemonium Threshold in Zarbinzet and use the Summoning Altar to spawn the boss.
  • Stock the currency to open its Hoard (see the next section) — because the kill alone gives you almost nothing; the loot is in the chest.

A useful way to think about it: fighting the Corrupted Reaper is free, but looting it is not. That's the same design Diablo 4 uses for its other Lair Bosses — the kill is the easy part, and your farming bottleneck is the key/consumable that opens the Hoard.

What opens the Corrupted Reaper's Hoard?

This is the part to read carefully, because it's where the season's farm loop lives — and where early sources don't fully agree yet.

On the 3.1.0 PTR, the Corrupted Reaper's Hoard opened with Betrayer's Husks, the season's gating consumable, with reports pointing to two Husks per Hoard. Some early community guides instead describe a Greater Lair Boss key opening the reward cache. Either way, the upstream source is the same activity, and Blizzard was explicit about where to farm the key currency:

"The Deathtoll Chamber will be the best source for Betrayer's Husks." — Blizzard, "The 3.1 PTR: What You Need to Know" (news.blizzard.com)

So the full Season 14 pipeline looks like this:

StepActivityWhat it gives you
1Close Pandemonium Ruptures (Normal → Surging → Colossal)Spawns Realmwalkers; feeds the loop
2Kill a Realmwalker (or run a Nightmare Dungeon with the Rupture affix)Opens a portal to the Deathtoll Chamber
3Clear the Deathtoll ChamberBest source of Betrayer's Husks
4Summon + kill the Corrupted Reaper, spend Husks on its HoardMythic Uniques + upgrade currency

The three Rupture sizes matter for how fast you feed that loop: Normal ruptures are small and concentrated in Helltides, Surging ruptures replace a local Helltide event and can spawn a Realmwalker on a Mastery completion, and Colossal ruptures — which appear only in the Fields of Desecration southeast of Zarbinzet — guarantee a Realmwalker. If you want a steady Deathtoll Chamber (and therefore Husk) supply, hunt Colossal ruptures.

Because the exact Husk count vs. key requirement is still PTR-provisional, verify it in your in-game seasonal journal on launch day before you burn a stockpile.

What loot does the Corrupted Reaper drop?

Diablo 4 Lair Boss loot explosion — Ancestral items, charms and tuning prisms dropping from a boss kill, the kind of Mythic-rich Hoard the Corrupted Reaper drops in Season 14

The Corrupted Reaper exists to be a Mythic Unique faucet. Blizzard's framing on the PTR was that its Hoard "offers the best direct drop chances for both Mythic Uniques and Mythic Unique upgrade currency than any other activity" in Season 14. In practice that means two things you care about:

  • Mythic Uniques — the top tier of the gear chase (the items formerly called Uber Uniques, e.g. Shako/Harlequin Crest, Tyrael's Might). The Corrupted Reaper gives the most reliable direct path to them, versus grinding the Horadric Cube amalgamation route.
  • Mythic Unique upgrade currency — Season 14 introduces Mythic Uniques 3.0, an itemization overhaul where you can upgrade regular Uniques into Mythics via the Horadric Cube. Early PTR sources name Pandemonium Fragments as that upgrade currency, with the Corrupted Reaper as its most reliable source. (Treat the "Pandemonium Fragments" name and any percentage figures as PTR-provisional until live notes confirm them.)

That combination is what makes this boss the season's true endgame target: it's not just another Uber kill, it's the fastest way to both get Mythics and make them. If you're optimizing a build for the season, the Corrupted Reaper farm is where the chase ends.

How do you beat the Corrupted Reaper efficiently?

Because the Reaper sits behind a build wall (Torment I+) and a currency wall (Husks from Deathtoll Chambers), "beating" it is really about throughput — how many Hoards you can open per hour. The efficient approach:

  • Farm Colossal Ruptures for guaranteed Realmwalkers. A guaranteed Realmwalker means a guaranteed Deathtoll Chamber portal, which means a steady Betrayer's Husk supply. Random Normal ruptures are too slow if you're farming seriously.
  • Push your Torment tier before you grind. Across the Lair Boss System, higher Torment improves drop quality and key/Husk flow. The same logic applies here — every tier you climb makes each Hoard worth more.
  • Group up to share the cost. In the existing Lair Boss System, only one player in a party needs the key/consumable to open the Hoard for everyone, and extra party members increase bonus loot rolls. If the Corrupted Reaper follows that pattern (expected, but verify on launch), running it as a four-stack quarters your Husk cost per player.
  • Bank your Husks; don't waste low-Torment opens. Since the Hoard is the entire point, only open it when you're at a Torment tier that's worth the currency.

The fight itself is a seasonal Lair Boss, so expect a single-arena DPS-and-survive check rather than a multi-room dungeon. Blizzard had not published a phase-by-phase mechanic list for the Corrupted Reaper as of the June 23 Developer Update, so we're not going to invent attack patterns — bring a build that can survive Torment-tier hits and sustain through adds, and we'll add a confirmed mechanics breakdown once the live encounter is datamined and tested.

Need a faster path to Season 14's endgame?

The Corrupted Reaper is double-gated — you need a Torment-ready build to survive it and a steady Betrayer's Husk supply to loot it. If you'd rather skip the grind and land in the loot phase on day one, our Diablo 4 services cover the whole pipeline:

Frequently Asked Questions

Where is the Corrupted Reaper in Diablo 4? It spawns at the entrance to the Pandemonium Threshold in Zarbinzet, in southwestern Hawezar near the World Boss Arena. It's a fixed lair you summon at a Summoning Altar — confirmed in the live 3.1.0 patch notes — not a roaming or random spawn.

How do you summon the Corrupted Reaper? Progress the Season 14 Campaign to unlock seasonal content, reach Torment I or higher, travel to the Pandemonium Threshold lair, and use the Summoning Altar inside to spawn the boss. The fight itself has no entry cost.

What do you need to open the Corrupted Reaper's Hoard? On the 3.1.0 PTR, the reward Hoard opened with Betrayer's Husks (reported as two per Hoard), which you farm from the Deathtoll Chamber; some early guides instead describe a Greater Lair Boss key. The exact live cost is PTR-provisional — check your seasonal journal in-game once Season 14 launches.

What does the Corrupted Reaper drop? It offers the best direct drop chances for Mythic Uniques and Mythic Unique upgrade currency of any Season 14 activity, including the Pandemonium Fragments used to upgrade Uniques into Mythics via the Horadric Cube under the new Mythic Uniques 3.0 system.

When does the Corrupted Reaper go live? With Diablo 4 Season 14, "Season of Death Awakening," patch 3.1.0 (Build #72578), launching June 30, 2026. All mechanics above are based on the 3.1.0 PTR and patch notes and will be updated when the season is live.

Is the Corrupted Reaper the hardest boss in Season 14? It's the season's capstone seasonal Lair Boss and the best Mythic Unique farm, but it sits inside the seasonal realm and is distinct from the Eternal pinnacle bosses like Uber Lilith and Echo of Mephisto. Its difficulty scales with your Torment tier.
