We pulled fut.gg's eligible and evolved player lists for the Evo on 29 October and matched 4,382 eligible cards to their evolved versions. Below are the requirements, every level, what the data says about picking a card, and the shortlist we would put in first.

What is the FC 27 Bone Builder Evolution?
Bone Builder is a free, three-level match Evolution that turns a centre-back into a ball-playing defender. Its in-game description, reproduced on fut.gg, reads: "Build from the bones up. Raise your CB from the crypt as a ball-playing defender with haunting passing range, eerie composure and a backbone no attacker can break." (fut.gg, Bone Builder)
It follows Witching Hour and Rise From the Grave for wingers as the latest free Evo of the Ultimate Scream week. Unlike Rise From the Grave, it is not a Training Camp: you have to play matches with the card in your team.
EA doesn't publish an article for weekly Evolutions. The requirements, upgrades and deadlines below come from fut.gg's copy of the in-game Evolution data, pulled on 29 October, and match the level table Destructoid published on release night. The Evo was also posted to r/EASportsFC by u/FIGJAM17 within minutes of going live.

The CB rule counts alternates. Of the 4,382 eligible cards we matched, 3,457 are main-position CBs and 925 play CB as an alternate: 270 CDMs, 248 RBs, 218 LBs and 173 CMs, plus a handful of wide players and strikers.
The pool is almost all base Rare items across bronze, silver and gold (1,467 are rated under 65), plus 12 Team of the Week items rated 80 that can play CB, including Marco Rente, Dujon Sterling and Lewis Dunk. Your own club is what counts, so confirm any card in the in-game Evolution preview.
What upgrades does Bone Builder give?
Each upgrade is a boost with a cap. Caps never lower a stat, so a card already above a cap keeps its own number.

Every task runs in Squad Battles on Semi-Pro or higher, Rush, Rivals, Champions or Live Events, using your active Evo player in the match. That's 4 matches and 1 win in total, so one evening in Squad Battles clears it.
What the levels do to the face stats, as medians across all 4,382 cards: PAS +10, DRI +12, DEF +2, PHY +2, PAC +0. The Evo is mostly a passing and composure upgrade. Your defending numbers barely move.
Which starting rating is best for Bone Builder?
75 is the lowest rating that reaches 82. With +7 OVR and an 82 cap, a 75 gets the full +7 and lands exactly on 82. Every rating from 75 to 81 finishes at 82, so a 76 throws away 1 OVR and an 81 throws away 6. Anything below 75 finishes under 82.
In the data, 473 of the 4,382 evolved items finish at 82: 109 started at 75 and 364 started between 76 and 81. Those 364 cards lose 1,068 OVR points between them to the cap.
That doesn't make a 75 better than an 80. The wasted points are OVR only: the attribute boosts still apply in full, and higher-rated cards usually start with better defending, physical and pace, which the Evo adds little or none of. So 75 is the cheapest route to an 82, not the best one. If you're spending coins, compare the finished attributes, height, PlayStyles and chemistry of the 75s against the 76 to 81s you could afford. If you already own a better card, use it.
Why does pace decide the best Bone Builder players?
Because the Evo never upgrades it. Bone Builder has no Acceleration or Sprint Speed line, and every one of the 4,382 evolved cards finishes with the same PAC it started with. The entry cap is 84, so 84 is the fastest Bone Builder card possible.
Among the 473 items that reach 82:
- Only 27 (6%) have PAC 80 or higher.
- 188 (40%) have PAC 64 or lower.
- The median finished line is PAC 67, PAS 73, DRI 78, DEF 79, PHY 79.
In FC 27's Ultimate Team, a slow 82 centre-back gets turned by pacy strikers, and passing range doesn't fix that. So filter on pace first, then defending and physical, then Weak Foot and PlayStyles.

How to read it:
- Marco Rente's TOTW is joint-top of the pool on fut.gg's GG Rating (84.0, level with Denis Zakaria): maximum 84 pace, 83 physical and three positions. It only gains +2 OVR, but you're putting it in for the passing, not the rating.
- Nicolás Capaldo is the pick of the 75s: full +7, 82 pace, and he gains Pinged Pass and his third Weak Foot star. He is the only 75-rated natural CB in the pool that finishes with 80+ pace and 78+ passing.
- Oumar Solet is the only 82 finisher with both 84 pace and 4-star Weak Foot.
- Sofia Huerta is the stand-out women's card, a right-back with CB as an alternate: 84 pace, 82 passing and 4-star Skill Moves. The pool has 129 women's items that reach 82.
- Davinson Sánchez and Wilfried Singo are the physical picks (86 and 84 PHY), at the cost of passing.
If you don't own any of these, use the same filter on your own club: an eligible CB at 75 or higher with the most pace you can find. A slow 80 that only gains +2 is the weakest use of the Evo.
Can you chain Center Spectre into Bone Builder?
Yes, and fut.gg's two-Evo calculator shows it, but the route it shows uses Center Spectre twice. Center Spectre is another free Evo for CMs and CDMs: max 80 OVR, PAC 83, Long Shots 81, Standing Tackle 78, giving +5 OVR (cap 81) over 4 matches, and fut.gg lists it as usable twice. A card that can play CM or CDM and CB (main or alternate position) can take Center Spectre, then Center Spectre again, then Bone Builder.
When we pulled the calculator for the pair on 29 October, 147 of the first 240 results were chained 82s, and all but one (Melvin Bard) ran Center Spectre twice before Bone Builder. Lushendry Martes is the clearest example: a 67-rated RB who can play CB and CDM goes 67 → 72 → 77 → 82, finishing with 82 pace and 5-star Weak Foot (fut.gg path).
Three things to know before you start:
- That route is 12 matches: 4 for each Center Spectre run and 4 for Bone Builder, with 1 win (in Bone Builder). One Center Spectre run plus Bone Builder is 8 matches, but adds at most +12 OVR before the 82 cap.
- Run Center Spectre first. OVR alone doesn't block the reverse order for cards that finish Bone Builder at 80 or lower, but Center Spectre caps at 81, so finishing on Bone Builder is the only way to reach 82. Bone Builder's Standing Tackle boost can also push a card past Center Spectre's 78 Standing Tackle limit.
- Center Spectre closes first. You have to start it by Monday 2 November, 18:00 UTC. Bone Builder stays open until 7 November.
EA's help page explains how the preview handles chains: "When you add another Evolution to the preview, available Evolutions are filtered using the Player Item's resulting stats." (EA Help, Ultimate Team Evolutions) Preview the full path in-game and only start if Bone Builder shows as available at the end.
What about The Haunted Wall? The 500-token defender Evo in the Ultimate Scream Token Store also takes cards rated 81 or lower with PAC 85 or lower. A CB that finishes Bone Builder at 81 or below (so one that started at 74 or lower) would meet those limits on paper, but fut.gg's calculator showed no chained results for the pair on 29 October. Check the in-game preview before spending tokens, and note the token store closes on Friday 13 November, 17:59 UTC.
Is Bone Builder worth doing?
Yes, if you own a CB rated 75 or higher with decent pace. It's free, it takes 4 matches, and it turns a squad-filler centre-back into an 82 with big passing and composure boosts and, for most cards, Pinged Pass.
It's worth less if:
- Your only eligible CBs are slow. An 82 with 64 pace is still a slow centre-back.
- You have two good candidates. Bone Builder can only be used once, so pick the faster one.
- Your card already has 3 or more PlayStyles. It won't get Pinged Pass, which is the only PlayStyle the Evo offers.
