Quick answer: First Owner is a FUT Gallery bonus tag in EA SPORTS FC 27 that only applies to Player Items you acquired yourself — packs, SBCs, Objectives and rewards — never cards bought on the Transfer Market. Community-captured tag data puts it at +150% for 5–9 items, +300% for 10–19 and +500% for 20 or more: more than every other Gallery tag combined. At the top tier a packed card is worth roughly six times what the identical bought card is worth to a Set's score. That is why your club Sets look impossible to grade — you are filling them with market cards.
Current FC 27 phase: early access, day five. It opened 17 September at 23:00 UTC on PC and 18 September at 00:00 local time elsewhere for Ultimate, Ultimate Plus and EA Play Pro. Worldwide launch is 24 September at 23:00 UTC (PC) and 25 September at 00:00 local time (consoles). Live campaign: Season 1: Ones to Watch, 17 September to 22 October 2026.

Key takeaways
- First Owner is the single biggest scoring lever in the FUT Gallery. Community-captured tiers: +150% / +300% / +500%. The next-biggest tag, Bronze, tops out at +80%.
- You cannot buy it. A market card contributes its base Item Score and nothing more. Pack it, SBC it or earn it from an Objective and it can carry the tag.
- Selling the card does not remove the score. EA is explicit: "If an eligible Player Item passes through your Club, it can still count toward your Gallery after you sell it." Pack → add to Set → grade → sell. You keep the score and the coins.
- There are 21 Gallery tags, each with three tiers, and per community data each tag pays its percentage only on the items that match it, not on the whole Set.
- Grading is not automatic. Swapping a bought card for the packed version requires manually adding it and regrading the Set.
- Evolutions are a trap here. EA: "Evolution upgrades don't carry over to the Gallery. If you upgrade a Player Item through an Evolution, its Gallery entry is still based on the original version of the Item."
What is the First Owner tag in FC 27?
The FUT Gallery replaces the old Collection Book and is the biggest structural change to Ultimate Team this year. You file Player Items into themed Sets — clubs, leagues, nations, rarities, campaigns — and each completed Set is graded D, C, B, A or S on the score of the items inside it. Grades pay club cosmetics, Gallery Tokens and Gallery Level progress. We covered the plumbing in the FC 27 FUT Gallery guide and the token economy in how to get 500 Gallery Tokens fast.
What most players missed in week one is the second half of the scoring formula. Per FUT.GG's captured FC 27 Gallery definitions, a Set's grade is not just the sum of its item scores:
- Base Grade — the sum of every Item Score in the Set.
- Bonus Grade — percentage bonuses from bonus tags the Set satisfies.
- Total Score — Base Grade + Bonus Grade. This is what determines D/C/B/A/S.
First Owner is one of those tags. It requires Player Items that came to you directly rather than through another player's transfer list — packs, Squad Building Challenges, Objectives and seasonal rewards all make you the first owner. Buying the same card on the Transfer Market does not.
EA's own asset for a graded LALIGA EA SPORTS Set shows the split: a Total Score of 48,935, of which 37,730 came from the items and 11,205 from tags — roughly a 30% uplift on a Set that was not stacking First Owner.
EA's help article documents the Gallery, the grades and the token store, but it does not publish the bonus-tag list or any percentage. Every tag number below comes from community-captured FC 27 data (FUT.GG's bonus tag tables) and early-access reports — accurate-but-unofficial until EA publishes them. Check the tag screen in your own club.
How much is First Owner actually worth?
More than everything else put together. Here are the three tiers as captured by FUT.GG:
| First Owner items in Set | Score bonus |
|---|---|
| 5–9 | +150% |
| 10–19 | +300% |
| 20+ | +500% |
Per FUT.GG, "each tag pays its tier percentage on the items that match it, not on the whole set, and the bonus is rounded down per tag." At the top tier, twenty first-owned cards contribute their base score plus five times that score again — six times the value of the same twenty bought on the market.
You can watch the multiplier work on a live Starter Set. Above, five players produce a Base Grade of 7,290 and a Bonus Grade of 11,297 — the tags are worth more than the cards. Run the arithmetic: 7,290 at +150% is 10,935, and the remaining ~360 is small change from Midfield Control, Golden and Different Nation. First Owner is doing roughly 97% of the bonus there, at its lowest tier.
Run it against the Item Score scale FC 27 uses (community-captured values, the same curve behind Streamlined SBCs: bronze 20, any silver a flat 35, an 83 worth 410, an 84 worth 830, an 85 worth 2,100):
| 20-item club Set | Base Grade | First Owner bonus | Total (tags ignored) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 20 bought 84s | 16,600 | 0 | 16,600 |
| 20 packed 84s | 16,600 | +83,000 | 99,600 |
| 20 bought 85s | 42,000 | 0 | 42,000 |
| 20 packed 85s | 42,000 | +210,000 | 252,000 |
That table is the answer to the question flooding r/fut this week. Players open a big-club Set, see an S threshold in the hundreds of thousands, look at a squad whose best card is an 85, and conclude the grade is mathematically impossible. It is not impossible — it is just not achievable with bought cards. Almost the entire threshold is designed to be paid by the First Owner multiplier and by special-rarity items arriving through the season.
It also reframes the advice in our own token guide. Buying cheap fodder, grading it and selling it back for the 5% EA tax is still the fastest way to complete Sets and bank low grades. It is not the way to grade them high. Two different jobs.
What score do the grades actually need?
This is where the First Owner multiplier stops being abstract. The Gallery rewards screen in EA's own help documentation shows one Set's full ladder:
| Grade | Score needed | Gallery Tokens |
|---|---|---|
| D | 10 | 5 |
| C | 50,000 | 15 |
| B | 75,000 | 30 |
| A | 100,000 | 50 |
| S | 200,000 | 75 |
Thresholds differ from Set to Set — the Starter Set grades out in the low thousands while the TOTW Set needs hundreds of thousands — but the shape is the same everywhere: D is free, and everything above C is a multiplier problem, not a collection problem. Because grades are cumulative, a Set taken straight to S pays all 175 Tokens in that ladder, not just the 75.
Now put the earlier table next to it. Twenty bought 84s score 16,600 — not even a C. Twenty packed 84s score 99,600 — an A. Same cards, same ratings, different acquisition route.
What are all 21 FC 27 Gallery bonus tags?
There are 21 tags, each with three tiers. Red Bull's 21 September FC 27 tag guide notes a tag has to be satisfied once before it starts paying out on later Sets, and that the quickest place to unlock them is the Starter Set — five players, no theme requirement.
| Tag | Tier 1 | Tier 2 | Tier 3 |
|---|---|---|---|
| First Owner | 5–9: +150% | 10–19: +300% | 20+: +500% |
| Bronze | 5–9: +20% | 10–19: +40% | 20+: +80% |
| Silver | 5–9: +15% | 10–19: +30% | 20+: +60% |
| Iconic (ICONs) | 2–3: +10% | 4–5: +15% | 6+: +25% |
| Holographic | 2–3: +8% | 4–5: +12% | 6+: +20% |
| Heroic (Heroes) | 2–3: +8% | 4–5: +12% | 6+: +20% |
| Multiples! (same player x2) | 2: +10% | 3: +15% | 4+: +20% |
| TOTW | 3–5: +4% | 6–9: +8% | 10+: +15% |
| Hands Only (GKs) | 3–5: +3% | 6–9: +6% | 10+: +15% |
| Ambidextrous (5★ weak foot) | 3–4: +3% | 5–9: +6% | 10+: +12% |
| Skilled (5★ skills) | 3–4: +3% | 5–9: +6% | 10+: +12% |
| Defensive Wall (CB/LB/RB) | 5–9: +3% | 10–14: +6% | 15+: +10% |
| Midfield Control (CDM/CM/CAM/LM/RM) | 5–9: +3% | 10–14: +6% | 15+: +10% |
| All out Attack (ST/RW/LW) | 5–9: +3% | 10–14: +6% | 15+: +10% |
| Same League | 5–9: +1% | 10–19: +2% | 20+: +8% |
| Same Nation | 5–9: +1% | 10–19: +2% | 20+: +4% |
| Different Nation | 5–9: +1% | 10–19: +2% | 20+: +4% |
| Same Club | 5–9: +1% | 10–19: +2% | 20+: +4% |
| Different Club | 5–9: +1% | 10–19: +2% | 20+: +4% |
| Different League | 5–9: +1% | 10–19: +2% | 20+: +4% |
| Golden | 5–9: +1% | 10–19: +2% | 20+: +4% |
⚠️ One caveat: EA's pre-release Gallery screenshot shows the TOTW tag paying 4% for 3–4 items, 6% for 5–9 and 12% for 10+, while values captured from the live game read 4% / 8% / 15% across slightly different brackets. Either EA retuned it before launch or the asset is from an older build. The gap does not touch First Owner, but check the tag detail panel in your own Gallery before building a Set around a specific percentage.
Two things jump out. First, the rarity tags are inverted relative to instinct: Bronze pays +80% and Gold pays +4%. Bronze and silver items have tiny base scores, so the percentage compensates — but a bronze at 20 base plus 80% is still only 36 points. Second, everything below First Owner is rounding error. Stack Iconic, Holographic, TOTW, the three position tags and both nation tags perfectly on a 20-man Set and you get roughly +60–80% combined. First Owner alone pays +500%.
Want more packs without grinding for the coins? First Owner only comes from items you earn yourself, and packs are the volume route. timesaver.gg handles the coin grind so you can spend your launch week opening and grading.

Does buying a player on the Transfer Market ever count as First Owner?
No. The tag is about acquisition route, not the card. Early-access players testing this are consistent on one point: tradeable versus untradeable is irrelevant — what the Gallery checks is whether the item came to you first-hand or from another player.
That answers a related question doing the rounds this week: does buying a player and instantly relisting them still count? Yes, for the base Item Score — EA confirms an item that passes through your club keeps counting after you sell it. But a bought-and-flipped card gives you base score only, and it will never carry the First Owner tag, no matter how long you hold it.
The practical version of that rule, and the single best habit for launch week:
- Open packs. Every player you pull, tradeable or not, is a first-owned item.
- Before you quick-sell or list anything, add the card to every Set it is eligible for — EA allows the same Player Item to count toward multiple Sets.
- Grade the Sets.
- Then sell. The score stays.
Quick-selling a pulled card without touching the Gallery first is the most expensive mistake available in FC 27 right now. Our launch-week trading guide and the bronze pack method breakdown both get better if you run this step before selling.
What happens if you pack a player you already bought?
You get the upgrade, but not for free. Early-access reports are consistent: the Set score does not silently update when the first-owned version arrives. You have to open the Set, manually add the new version and regrade.
Since grades are cumulative — EA: "If you jump straight to S, you'll get all the rewards from the lower grades" — regrading is close to free. Grade a Set at D early and return every time your club improves. EA is explicit that this is intended: "If you get a lower grade, you can return to the Set when you have higher-scoring eligible Player Items and try to improve it."
Which traps cost the most Gallery score?
- Evolutions do not carry over. Per EA: "Evolution upgrades don't carry over to the Gallery. If you upgrade a Player Item through an Evolution, its Gallery entry is still based on the original version of the Item." An 84 evolved to an 88 still scores as an 84.
- Loan Items are ineligible. EA: "Loan Items aren't eligible for the Gallery and don't count toward Gallery Sets." Pre-order and carryover loan cards give you nothing here.
- Chasing S on a small club now. Top grades on most club Sets are not meant to be reachable in week one — they open up as promos deliver higher-rated special items. Bank the D and C grades, come back later.
- Holographic items. Rarer versions score more and they are tradeable — but a bought Holographic is not First Owner. See Holographic items explained for the Regular and Pristine split.
- Ignoring the Starter Set. Five players, no theme, and per Red Bull the fastest way to satisfy tag requirements for the first time so they pay out everywhere else.
How should this change your launch week?
EA's own Gallery Summary asset makes the point quietly: a club with 2,834 items logged, all 2,834 First Owner, running a LALIGA Set at S grade with 187,972 score. That is what the system is balanced around.
Worldwide launch is two days away, and the first 72 hours after 25 September will be the biggest pack-opening window of the season — Destined for Glory begins at launch and millions of Standard Edition clubs open at once. Three concrete moves:
- Gallery-first pack discipline. Nothing gets quick-sold until it has been filed into every eligible Set. Ten seconds a card, up to six times its lifetime value.
- Prioritise 85+ first-owned items. The Item Score curve is top-heavy — an 85 is worth 2,100 against 830 for an 84 — so a single first-owned 85 is worth roughly 12,600 at the 20+ tier. That is why the launch ICONs and Ones to Watch cards matter beyond your starting XI.
- Buy for your squad, pack for your Gallery. Two separate budgets. Market cards win matches; packed cards win grades.
FAQ
What is First Owner in FC 27? A FUT Gallery bonus tag that applies to Player Items you acquired directly — packs, SBCs, Objectives or in-game rewards — rather than bought on the Transfer Market. Community-captured data puts the bonus at +150% for 5–9 items, +300% for 10–19 and +500% for 20 or more, by far the largest scoring bonus in the Gallery.
Can you get First Owner by buying a player? No. A bought card contributes its base Item Score with no First Owner bonus. If you later pack or SBC the same player, that copy can carry the tag — but you must add it to the Set and regrade manually.
Do sold players still count in the FC 27 Gallery? Yes. EA states that "if an eligible Player Item passes through your Club, it can still count toward your Gallery after you sell it." Grade before you sell and you keep the score and the coins. Loan Items never count.
Why can't I reach S grade on my club Set? S thresholds assume First Owner multipliers and high-rated special items. Twenty bought 84s score about 16,600; twenty packed 84s score about 99,600 before any other tag. Club Sets are designed to be graded up over the season, not finished in launch week.
Do Evolutions raise my Gallery score? No. EA confirms Evolution upgrades do not carry over — the Gallery uses the item's original version. Evolve for your squad, not for your Sets.
Does the Gallery care if a card is tradeable? No. Early-access testing indicates tradeability has no effect on Gallery scoring or on the First Owner tag. What matters is how the item reached you.
How many Gallery tags are there in FC 27? 21, each with three tiers. First Owner is the largest at +500%; Bronze is second at +80%; every league, nation, club and Gold tag tops out at +4% to +8%.
