FC 27 Flank Identity Evolution Guide: Best Players, Both Upgrade Paths and Why the 85 Pace Cap Matters

EA SPORTS added Flank Identity as FC 27's new free evolution for the start of Week 2 — a free, 3-level evolution exclusive to LM and LW players rated 79 or below, completed by playing one Squad Battles match (minimum Semi-Pro) per level. It pushes any eligible wide card to 80 OVR across two levels, then lets you branch into either an attacking finisher or a physical wide runner at Level 3. This guide covers every eligibility rule, the full stat breakdown at each level, which path to pick for your playstyle, and the 15 best cards to put through it right now.

Quick answer (TLDR): Flank Identity is a free LM/LW evolution requiring max 79 OVR, max 85 pace and max 7 PlayStyles — complete 1 Squad Battles match (min. Semi-Pro) per level across 3 levels and your wide player jumps to 80 OVR with large boosts across pace, dribbling and stamina, then chooses between an attacking path (Finishing/Crossing/Curve) or a physical path (Long Shots/Strength/Jumping). Top picks are Jota, Koumas, Godts and Nusa. The 85 pace cap locks out many premium fodder cards — see the eligibility table below before you apply.

What Is the FC 27 Flank Identity Evolution?

Flank Identity is a free standard evolution — no coins, no FC Points, completed through match play. Each of the three levels requires one Squad Battles match at minimum Semi-Pro difficulty (per Destructoid's verified breakdown), so the total time cost is three matches. It launched in Week 2 of Season 1 alongside the Destined for Glory promo.

The official FUT.GG listing describes it as targeting wide players who need both a pace-agility and a positioning overhaul: "Sharpen your wide player's impact on the match, leading to a pivotal choice that permanently steers their tactical development on the wing."

Unlike paid evolutions in the Evolution Store, Flank Identity does not cost FC Points — and because it is a standard (match-based) evolution rather than a time-locked Training Camp slot, your card is only tied up for the duration of those three matches. Once complete, tradeable cards remain tradeable.

What Are the Flank Identity Eligibility Requirements?

Before applying, verify your card clears all five gates:

RequirementValue
Eligible PositionsLM or LW only
Max Overall Rating79 OVR
Max Pace85
Max PlayStyles7
Excluded PositionsST, CDM, LB
Entry CostFree (0 coins, 0 FC Points)
Matches Required1 per level (3 total) — Squad Battles, min. Semi-Pro

The pace cap at 85 is where most players get tripped up. Many strong 79-rated LW cards from the launch squads have pace pushed to 86–88 with chemistry, but the gate checks the base card's pace stat, not in-match chemistry. A card sitting at 84 pace on its base is fine; one at 86 is locked out regardless of in-game performance.

The max 7 PlayStyles gate similarly excludes cards that already carry heavy PlayStyle stacks (most premium evolutions and Destined for Glory cards). Check the PlayStyle count on the card detail screen, not just the visible PlayStyle icons.

What Stats Does Flank Identity Upgrade at Each Level?

Flank Identity runs three levels, with a branching choice at Level 3:

Level 1 — Speed and Agility Base

AttributeUpgrade
Overall+5 OVR (→ 80)
Sprint Speed+5
Agility+5
Reactions+5
Dribbling+5
Stamina+5

Six across-the-board movement improvements. After Level 1 your player is already a meaningfully different card — the stamina bump alone makes them press-heavy-friendly in a 4-3-3 attack.

Level 2 — Dribbling Control Tier

AttributeUpgrade
Acceleration+5
Positioning+5
Balance+5
Ball Control+5
Composure+5

By Level 2 the card is a complete positional upgrade: pace, acceleration, close control and composure are all addressed. A 79 OVR LW who was serviceable is now a 80 OVR card with genuine threat in tight spaces.

Level 3 — Path A (Attack) vs Path B (Physical)

This is where the card's identity splits:

AttributePath A — AttackPath B — Physical
Finishing+4—
Shot Power+4—
Long Shots—+4
Volleys—+4
Vision+5—
Crossing+5—
Curve+5—
Jumping—+5
Strength—+5
Aggression—+5

Pick Path A if your wide player cuts inside and shoots — the Finishing/Curve/Vision cluster turns them into a genuine half-space threat. The +5 Crossing is a bonus but the Finishing and Curve are the reason to choose this path.

Pick Path B if your player stays wide and delivers or duels — the Strength/Jumping/Aggression block makes them hold the flank against physical fullbacks and contest aerial balls. Works well in 4-5-1 wide or any system with overlapping fullbacks.

How Does Flank Identity Compare to Week 1 Training Camp Evos?

Season 1 began with a Training Camp evolution that targeted central positions (midfielders and defensive mids). Flank Identity is the first evo specifically carved for wide attackers, which means the pool of eligible, un-evolved cards is relatively fresh. FUT.GG's evolution listing shows over 350 eligible base cards in the LM/LW 75–79 OVR band at launch week — Flank Identity is the first evo addressing that bucket.

The free cost also matters: paid evolutions in the FC 27 Evolution Store start from 7,500 coins for basic boosts and climb significantly for multi-attribute upgrades. Flank Identity's 0-coin entry makes it worth applying to any eligible card you'd actually use, since the only cost is three Squad Battles matches at Semi-Pro or above.

Antonio Nusa (base gold card) is the standout pick if you can afford him. His base gold 79 LW has 84 pace and clears all five eligibility gates. Note: his Destined for Glory version is rated 85 OVR and is therefore ineligible for this evolution — use his base gold card only. Nusa's 84 pace clears the cap by exactly 1 point; verify the base pace in-game before applying in case of any mid-season card refresh.

Jota (Celtic) and Koumas (Liverpool) are the best affordable picks for players without a DfG slot — both are sub-2,000-coin cards on the transfer market at launch week and jump from 78 to 80 OVR with Path A, making them Elite Division-worthy depth options at near-zero cost.

Note on Lang (BVB): his pace sits at exactly 85 — he clears the cap but has no headroom. Any future free evolution with the same pace restriction would make his base card ineligible. Keep that in mind if you plan to chain evolutions on the same card.

Is the FC 27 Flank Identity Evolution Worth Doing?

Yes, for any LM/LW in your squad who clears the gates. The reasons:

  • Zero cost. No coins, no FC Points. Three matches is roughly 60 minutes of gameplay.
  • The stat depth is real. +5 across six attributes at Level 1 alone is equivalent to a 25,000-coin paid evo in raw number of attribute points moved.
  • Tradeable cards stay tradeable after evolution — if you evolve a tradeable Jota, complete the 3 matches, and change your mind, you can still sell him.
  • Can be stacked with other upgrade paths — if you have a base 79-rated LW who is also on a paid upgrade path, Flank Identity's permanent stat boosts stack on top, at no extra cost.

The only reason to skip: if your eligible card has a PlayStyle count of 7 (the cap) and you plan to add more PlayStyles via a future paid evo — Flank Identity would not have made that card any better on PlayStyles and won't be the bottleneck. In all other cases, apply it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you apply Flank Identity to a tradeable card and keep it tradeable? Yes. Completing the evolution does not change the tradeable/untradeable status of the underlying card. If the base item was tradeable when you applied the evolution, it remains tradeable after all three levels are complete.

Does the 85 pace cap check base pace or in-game boosted pace? The cap checks the base card's pace stat as listed on the card — before any chemistry, PlayStyles or attribute bonuses. A card with 84 base pace and +2 from chemistry is still eligible; a card with 86 base pace is locked out even if you run it on minimal chemistry.

Can you use Flank Identity on a Destined for Glory card? Only if the DfG card's base OVR is 79 or below, base pace is 85 or below, and it has max 7 PlayStyles. Most DfG cards are 84–91 OVR and will fail the max-79 gate. Antonio Nusa's DfG version is 85 OVR — ineligible. Use his base gold card (79 OVR) instead.

What happens if you don't complete all 3 matches before the evo expires? Flank Identity does not have a published expiry date in the current Season 1 window. EA typically rotates free evolutions on a weekly cycle (Tuesdays around 6 PM UTC). If the evo is removed mid-completion, standard EA policy allows you to finish any in-progress evolution — check the EA Help article on evolutions in EA SPORTS FC 27 for the current in-progress-lock rule.

Is Path A or Path B better for FUT Champions? Path A (Finishing/Crossing/Curve) is generally better for Weekend League because the Finishing and Curve upgrades contribute directly to shooting from wide positions, and Crossing helps if your style involves quick combinations into the box. Path B (Strength/Jumping/Aggression) has a narrower use case but is ideal in possession-heavy wide systems where your LW battles for aerial balls or holds the flank under pressure. Pick based on how your formation uses the wide position, not just the headline stat numbers.

How many total attributes does Flank Identity add across all three levels? Level 1 adds 5 attributes × 5 stat points = 25 points. Level 2 adds another 25. Level 3 (either path) adds 3 attributes × 5 points + 2 attributes × 4 points = 23 points. Total: 73 individual attribute-point improvements from a single free evolution.
