Genshin Lohen Build: Best Weapons, Artifacts, Teams and the Will to Win Threshold

Quick answer. Lohen is a 5-star Cryo Polearm on-field DPS from Mondstadt who released on 9 June 2026. He is not obtainable in Version 7.1 — the two live Character Event Wishes are Skirk and Escoffier, and he is on neither selector list. Build him CRIT Rate / Cryo DMG / ATK%, run Disaster and Remorse or A Day Carved From Rising Winds, and treat Will to Win as the whole character: his teammates must land hits worth at least 10x his Base ATK or they feed him 1 point instead of 20.

Most Lohen guides open with an artifact table. That is the least useful thing on the page, because his damage is not decided by his substats — it is decided by whether the other three characters in your party hit hard enough to clear a threshold printed in his own talent text. Players have noticed the symptom: one Traveler on r/GenshinImpactTips described their account on 13 October 2026 as "my Lohen C0R0 is kinda struggling ig bc my Durin isn't good enough to fill his Will to Win." Nobody states the actual number. This guide does, from Lohen's in-game talent data and HoYoverse's live announcements, checked on 13 October 2026 — the day Version 7.1 Phase 2 went live.

Who is Lohen, and can you get him in Version 7.1?

Lohen is the Vice Captain of the Knights of Favonius Ranged Company, titled "Sharpened Arrowhead." In gameplay terms he is a high-frequency Cryo damage dealer who infuses his Normal, Charged and Plunging Attacks with Cryo and converts his teammates' damage into a personal damage bonus.

The blunt answer to the question most people are actually asking: you cannot pull Lohen right now. Version 7.1 Phase 2 opened on 13 October 2026 at 18:00 server time and runs to 3 November 2026 at 14:59. The two live Character Event Wishes are "Void Star's Advent" for Skirk and "La Chanson Cerise" for Escoffier, with Dahlia, Candace and Mika as the featured 4-stars. Neither features Lohen — and nor do the two free selectors. The "Tabletop Troupe" event names its six invitable characters explicitly (Tartaglia, Nilou, Baizhu, Chiori, Clorinde, Varesa), and "Across the Frozen Wilds, Honing One's Edge" is restricted to the Standard Wish pool, while Lohen is event-exclusive. No rerun has been announced. The only thing Version 7.1 did for him is a cosmetic fix, quoted verbatim from the official update notes: "Optimizes the movement of Lohen's cape when jumping and falling, making it appear more natural."

His ascension bill, if you already own him: 420,000 Mora, 46 Prismatic Severed Tail from a Level 30+ Radiant Moongecko, 1 Shivada Jade Sliver, 9 Fragments, 9 Chunks and 6 Gemstones, 168 Etherwing Moth (a Mondstadt local specialty, also found in the Temple of Space), and 18 Firm, 30 Sharp and 36 Weathered Arrowheads.

How do Masterstroke, Joy and Will to Win actually work?

Lohen's Elemental Skill, Unforeseen Strike, puts him into Masterstroke mode for 13 seconds on an 18-second cooldown. Inside it, two resources run at once, and the numbers matter more than the descriptions.

Joy is the engine. Every Normal or Charged Attack that connects grants 17 Joy, capped at 100, no more than once every 0.1s. At 17 per hit, six connecting hits fill the bar, converting Unforeseen Strike into the special Elemental Skill Etched Into Bone and Soul. You can fire it up to three times per Masterstroke, after which Joy stops accumulating entirely. That is the real rotation constraint — eighteen landed Normal or Charged Attack hits inside a 13-second window — and it is why the published combo for him is a tight N1 to Charged Attack loop rather than a full five-hit string.

Will to Win is the payload, and it does not come from Lohen at all. It accrues when other nearby party members deal damage while he is in Masterstroke, and it inflates both Etched Into Bone and Soul and his Elemental Burst.

Masterstroke ends the moment Lohen leaves the field, and both resources reset to zero. There is no quickswap variant and no banking a charge for the next rotation. His Elemental Burst, Manifest Judgment, costs 60 Energy, has a 15-second cooldown, consumes all Will to Win, and extends Masterstroke by 1.65 seconds if cast inside it.

Why does the Will to Win threshold decide your whole team?

Here is the clause every other Lohen page paraphrases away, quoted exactly as the game prints it:

"While Masterstroke mode is active, when other nearby party members deal DMG, if that DMG is not less than 1000% of Lohen's Base ATK, he accumulates 20 Will to Win. Otherwise, he accumulates 1 Will to Win."

That is not a curve. It is a cliff with a 20x drop on either side of one number. His 1st Ascension Passive, Moratorium on Questioning, adds a second cliff: a teammate hit worth 3,000% of his Base ATK grants an extra 60 Will to Win on top.

Do the arithmetic and the character becomes legible:

ThresholdMultiple of Base ATKReward
Base generationbelow 10x1 point
Base generation10x or more20 points
1st Ascension Passive30x or more60 extra points

Read your own character screen, not a guide's number. Take the Base ATK line from Lohen's attribute panel, multiply by 10 and by 30, and those are the two figures your teammates' individual damage instances have to beat. Why it matters that you read your own: Lohen's character Base ATK at 90/90 is 344.42, which puts the floor at 3,444 per instance. Equip Disaster and Remorse, which carries 674 Base ATK of its own at Level 90, and the panel figure climbs past 1,018 — pushing the bar nearer 10,184 per hit, and the 30x tier past 30,000. His talent text says "Base ATK" without settling which reading applies, so the panel number is the only one you can trust.

Three consequences follow, and none appears on a database page.

High-frequency off-field chip damage is close to worthless to him. A support ticking for a few hundred per hit feeds him 1 point at a time, while a single Melt detonation clearing 30x delivers 80 points — four fifths of his C0 cap of 100 in one instance. Lohen does not want a busy team. He wants a team that hits hard and rarely.

Levelling Lohen past 90 makes his own buff harder to trigger. His Base ATK rises to 383.16 at Level 95 and 421.91 at Level 100 — a 22.5% increase in the bar his teammates must clear, bought with his own ascension Mora. Personal damage up, Will to Win generation strictly harder.

And the Will to Win damage bonus is 0.4 per point, flat at every talent level from 1 to 13 on both Etched Into Bone and Soul and Manifest Judgment. The base multipliers scale normally — Etched runs 60% x4 at Level 1 up to 108% x4 at Level 10 — but the Will to Win half is identical whether his talents are crowned or untouched. Talent levels buy his floor. Team composition buys his ceiling.

What are the best weapons for Lohen?

Durin official wish splash art, the 5-star Pyro Sword Hexerei character whose large single hits feed Lohen's Will to Win

Disaster and Remorse is his signature, released alongside him on 9 June 2026: 674 Base ATK and 22.1% CRIT Rate at Level 90, with the passive Dolorous Stroke. One correction before the recommendation — a widely cited build database describes its secondary stat as CRIT DMG. It is CRIT Rate. Check the stat line, not the blurb.

The passive is more interesting than its numbers suggest. Casting an Elemental Skill grants Path of Conflict for 17s plus two buffs that last only 3 seconds each: Unforgivable (+40% Normal and Charged Attack DMG at R1) and Irreparable (+40% Elemental Skill and Burst DMG at R1). They are kept alive by cross-feeding — Normal and Charged hits extend the Skill/Burst buff, and Skill/Burst hits extend the Normal/Charged buff.

On most characters you hold one half and watch the other expire. Lohen holds both, because Etched Into Bone and Soul is classed as a special Elemental Skill and he fires it while spamming Normal Attacks. The weapon's 18-second trigger cooldown is also exactly Unforeseen Strike's cooldown, so the loop re-arms every rotation. And with Hexerei: Secret Rite active, both boosts increase by a further 75%, turning R1's 40% into 70%.

Realistic alternatives, in order: Primordial Jade Winged-Spear (CRIT Rate plus ATK stacks an uninterrupted on-field loop keeps maxed), Staff of the Scarlet Sands (converts Elemental Mastery into ATK — the Melt-team pick), Calamity Queller (ATK%, a flat elemental bonus, and stacks that build while he stays on field), Deathmatch (the cheap CRIT Rate option, though its DEF line is dead weight against a single boss) and White Tassel as a 3-star stopgap. Skip anything gated on leaving the field or on a state Lohen cannot enter — if a passive's activation clause does not match his rotation, the stat line is all you are buying.

What artifacts, main stats and talent priority does Lohen want?

A Day Carved From Rising Winds is the strongest set for him, specifically because of its gate. Two pieces give ATK +18%; four give +25% ATK for 6s after any attack connects — and if the equipping character has completed Witch's Homework, that upgrades to an additional +20% CRIT Rate.

Blizzard Strayer is the honest alternative: 2-piece Cryo DMG +15%, and the 4-piece gives +20% CRIT Rate against a Cryo-affected opponent plus another +20% if that opponent is Frozen, freeing every circlet and substat roll for CRIT DMG. Note the split — half that bonus is available in any team, because Lohen's own infusion keeps targets Cryo-affected; only the second half needs an actual Freeze, so against a freeze-immune boss the set drops to +20%, not to nothing.

Now the part that trips up every aggregator: three Hexerei-adjacent gates with three different requirements.

EffectWhat it needsWhat you get
A Day Carved From Rising Winds 4-piece upgradeLohen has completed Witch's Homework — personal, no teammate required+20% CRIT Rate on top of the ATK buff
Lohen's Witch's Eve Rite Passive, Unhealing ThornWitch's Homework completed and at least 2 Hexerei characters in the party+40% Normal and Charged Attack DMG for 6s while Will to Win is at 50% or more of its max
Disaster and Remorse's Hexerei bonusHexerei: Secret Rite active, i.e. 2 Hexerei in the partyBoth weapon buffs increased by 75%

One subtlety on the middle row: the gate is 50% of the maximum, not a fixed 50 points. C1 raises his cap to 300% of its original value, which also triples that gate from 50 to 150 — though C1 simultaneously multiplies teammate generation by five, so it is still a net gain.

Main stats: Sands ATK%, Goblet Cryo DMG Bonus, Circlet CRIT Rate. His ascension stat is already 38.4% CRIT DMG, so his natural ratio skews toward DMG and the circlet should correct it. Substats: CRIT Rate, CRIT DMG, ATK%, then only enough Energy Recharge to land a 60-cost Burst each rotation.

Talent priority: Elemental Skill, then Burst, then Normal Attack — and the reason is structural rather than conventional. Etched Into Bone and Soul's scaling rows sit inside the Elemental Skill block, so the Skill talent governs the three biggest hits in the rotation, not the Skill cast itself.

What are the best Lohen teams in Version 7.1?

Nicole official wish splash art, the 5-star Pyro Catalyst of the Hexenzirkel and the second Pyro unit in Lohen's Hexerei team

There are twelve Hexerei characters: Albedo, Durin, Fischl, Klee, Lohen, Mona, Nicole, Prune, Razor, Sucrose, Varka and Venti. Two of them in a party switches on Hexerei: Secret Rite, provided each has completed their own Witch's Homework.

Hexerei Melt — Lohen, Durin, Nicole, Citlali. The team the community converges on, and it exists because Durin and Nicole are both Pyro with large single-instance damage — exactly what the 10x and 30x thresholds reward, and why the Reddit complaint quoted at the top is specifically about an under-invested Durin. Three slots carry the Hexerei tag, so Secret Rite is comfortably live.

One correction, because it is repeated on a page currently ranking for this term. A major build database describes this comp as "Citlali providing Pyro application for Melt reactions" and claims "all team members benefit from Hexerei buffs." Citlali is Cryo, confirmed in her own character data — she cannot enable Melt for a Cryo DPS. The Pyro comes from Durin and Nicole, and Citlali is not one of the twelve Hexerei characters, so one slot of that four gets no team bonus. The lineup is right; the explanation is backwards.

Freeze — Lohen, Furina, Mona, Escoffier. His infusion applies Cryo constantly while Hydro teammates freeze. The same database credits the Hydro to "Furina and Escoffier." Escoffier is Cryo — HoYoverse's own Version 7.1 Phase 2 wish notice names her "Tasteful Excellence" Escoffier (Cryo). The Hydro comes from Furina and Mona, and Mona is also the Hexerei member who switches on Secret Rite, which makes her non-negotiable rather than a flex slot.

Two kit details to build around. His 4th Ascension Passive, Flippant Masterpiece, grants 15% ATK to Lohen and to the triggering character for 8s — but only when another party member triggers a Cryo reaction. Lohen applies the Cryo; somebody else pulls the trigger. And his known weakness, as players put it, is that he "has problems with shielded enemies that block his teammates' damage" — a shield that eats your sub-DPS output does not just cost damage, it starves his Will to Win bar outright.

Should you pull Lohen or save for Varka?

The most-upvoted build thread on r/GenshinImpactTips on 13 October 2026 asks exactly this. Neither is pullable in Version 7.1, so treat it as planning. Both are Mondstadt Knights of Favonius 5-stars with the Hexerei tag, which means they are not really rivals — each activates the other's Secret Rite. Beyond that they split cleanly.

  • Varka is an Anemo Claymore whose premium team runs largely mono-element, so his teammates' damage types are uniform. Our Varka build guide covers his own activation clauses.
  • Lohen is usually the only Cryo unit on his team, which players rate as the more versatile answer against bosses with mixed elemental shields or reaction-specific gimmicks.
  • Varka scales with vertical investment on himself; Lohen scales with investment in his teammates, because of the thresholds above. If your account's strength is a well-built Durin, Lohen converts it. If your Mora goes into one character, Varka converts it.

That is a team-shape question, not a tier-list question. Note also that keqingmains.com, the theorycrafting site sitting in the top three results for this very keyword, still lists its Lohen Extended Guide as "currently unavailable" four months after release — so treat any confidently precise damage ranking for him with suspicion, including the ordering in this article's alternatives table.

FAQ

Can you get Lohen in Version 7.1? No. The two live Character Event Wishes are Skirk and Escoffier, running 13 October to 3 November 2026, and Lohen is on neither. He is also absent from the Tabletop Troupe selector list and ineligible for the Standard Wish selector because he is event-exclusive. His only banner so far was Frostedge Nocturne on 9 June 2026, and no rerun has been announced.

Why is my Lohen damage so low? Almost always because his teammates are not clearing the Will to Win threshold. Each damage instance from another party member must be worth at least 10 times his Base ATK to grant 20 points instead of 1. Check the Base ATK on his attribute screen, multiply by 10, and compare it to what your sub-DPS actually hits for.

Is Disaster and Remorse worth it, or is a 4-star fine? It is a genuine upgrade rather than a stat stick, because Lohen is one of the few characters who can hold both halves of its passive at once and because Hexerei: Secret Rite raises its buffs by 75%. Primordial Jade Winged-Spear is the strongest non-signature pick.

Should I level Lohen to 100? Only if you want his personal damage. Level 90 to 100 raises his Base ATK from 344.42 to 421.91, raising the bar his teammates must clear by 22.5%. A trade-off, not a free upgrade.

Which constellation is the biggest jump? C1 — it raises his maximum Will to Win to 300% of its original value and makes teammates generate 500% as much, attacking the exact bottleneck above. C4 is the other strong one, because it maxes Will to Win automatically when he Bursts in Masterstroke.

Do I need to finish Witch's Homework for Lohen? Yes, for two things: it is what makes him count as a Hexerei character at all, and it is what upgrades A Day Carved From Rising Winds' 4-piece bonus into the version that also gives +20% CRIT Rate.
