Quick answer: Linnea is a 5-star Geo Bow off-field support whose entire kit reads one stat — DEF. Her damage, her healing, her Elemental Mastery buff and her reaction bonus all scale off it, so the sands is always DEF%, and 2,000 DEF is the number that caps her signature passive. Her best weapon is Golden Frostbound Oath, with the craftable Covenant of Frost and Snow surprisingly close behind. Her best sets are Husk of Opulent Dreams or Aubade of Morningstar and Moon. Level her Elemental Skill and nothing else. And the single biggest mistake is running her alone: half her kit is locked behind Moonsign: Ascendant Gleam, which needs a second Moonsign character in the party.
This guide applies to Version 7.1 "A Rekviem for the Underworld", live since 23 September 2026. Every talent value, weapon passive and artifact clause below is transcribed from in-game text, and the dated banner information comes from the HoYoverse in-game announcement API.
Who is Linnea and can you still pull her?
Linnea is an advisor to the Adventurers' Guild and, in the game's own words, one of the last Snowland Fae in Nod-Krai as well as "one of the last Augury Birds in existence." She became playable on 8 April 2026 in Version "Luna VI".
| Attribute | Value |
|---|---|
| Rarity, element, weapon | 5-star, Geo, Bow |
| Region | Nod-Krai (Snezhnaya in lore) |
| Team bonus | Moonsign |
| Role | Off-field sub-DPS, healer, Lunar-Crystallize enabler |
| Ascension stat | CRIT Rate, 19.2% at sixth ascension |
| Lv. 90/90 base stats | 9,894.70 HP / 143.51 ATK / 906.89 DEF |
| Constellation | Alcyon |
The acquisition answer is blunt: you cannot pull Linnea right now. She is event-exclusive, so she never appears in the Wanderlust Invocation standard pool, and her Character Event Wish — "Ya-hoho! Compendium", alongside Illuga, Aino and Noelle — has run exactly once, from 8 April to 28 April 2026. It has not returned since.
She is not in the current line-up either. The live Version 7.1 Phase 2 wish notices cover Skirk ("Void Star's Advent") and Escoffier ("La Chanson Cerise"), both running 13 October 18:00 to 3 November 14:59 server time. Neither free 5-star selector event lists her — the event-exclusive one offers Tartaglia, Nilou, Baizhu, Chiori, Clorinde and Varesa. See the October banner schedule and the 7.1 free 5-star selector guide for what is claimable today.
So this guide is for players who already have her, and for anyone saving for a rerun HoYoverse has not announced — our pity system guide covers what that pull actually costs.
Why does every Linnea number scale off DEF?
Most characters have one or two stats that matter. Linnea has one, and it appears in literally every line of her kit:
- Lumi's damage — all three of her attacks are listed as percentages of DEF, not ATK.
- Her healing — the Burst heals for 288% DEF plus 1,695 at talent level 10, then 57.6% DEF plus 339 per tick.
- Her Elemental Mastery buff — the 4th Ascension Passive grants Elemental Mastery equal to 5% of Linnea's DEF.
- Her reaction bonus — the Moonsign Benediction Passive reads, verbatim: "with every 100 DEF that Linnea has increasing Lunar-Crystallize's Base DMG by 0.7%, up to a maximum of 14%."
- Her first Constellation — Field Catalog stacks add damage equal to 75% of Linnea's DEF.
That 14% ceiling is the number to build around. At 0.7% per 100 DEF, the cap lands at exactly 2,000 DEF, and her Lv. 90 base is 906.89 — so you need roughly +120% DEF from gear. Here is the cleanest route there:
| Source | DEF contribution |
|---|---|
| Base DEF at Lv. 90/90 | 906.89 |
| Husk of Opulent Dreams, 2-piece | +30% |
| Husk of Opulent Dreams, 4 Curiosity stacks | +24% |
| DEF% sands, 5-star at +20 | +58.3% |
| Golden Frostbound Oath, R1 | +16% |
| Total | ≈ 2,070 DEF |
Two warnings. First, 2,000 is Linnea's number, and 3,600 is somebody else's. The Ascendant Gleam team bonus also grants Lunar Reaction damage based on a character's DEF — 1% per 100 DEF, capped at 36% — but that clause applies only to non-Moonsign characters, and Linnea is a Moonsign character. Her own DEF never feeds it. That 3,600 DEF target belongs to a Noelle or a Chiori sitting in the fourth slot.
Second, Lunar reactions crit. The wiki's damage page is explicit that Lunar and Stellar Glimmer reaction damage takes into account the stats of all contributing characters "including their (standard, non-transformative) CRIT stats." The old instinct that reaction damage cannot crit is wrong here, which is why her ascension stat is CRIT Rate and why a CRIT DMG circlet is live on her.
How does Lumi actually work?
Linnea's in-game skill description is one of the most heavily nested in the game. Here is the plain version.
Her Elemental Skill, Countermeasure: Lumi's Battle Cry!, summons Lumi for 25 seconds on an 18-second cooldown. Lumi has three forms:
- Super Power Form (one tap) — Pound-Pound Pummeler every ~2s, two instances of Geo damage each. If Moondrifts are nearby she alternates in Heavy Overdrive Hammer every ~5s, which counts as Lunar-Crystallize reaction damage.
- Ultimate Power Form (tap the Skill 5 times in quick succession) — one Million Ton Crush, 720% of DEF at talent 10, counted as Lunar-Crystallize damage. Lumi then drops to Standard Power Form.
- Standard Power Form — Pound-Pound Pummeler only, every ~5s.
The trap is in the tap count. The wiki states it flatly: "Tapping 2-4 times is functionally identical to tapping one time." Four taps buys you nothing. It is five or one.
Her Elemental Burst, Memo: Survival Guide in Extreme Conditions, costs 60 Energy on a 15-second cooldown. It heals the party and resummons Lumi — but if Lumi is already out, it only refreshes her duration and does not change her form. Note that all of Lumi's damage rows live in the Elemental Skill's scaling table, not the Burst's. The Burst table contains healing and nothing else.
That gives a hard talent priority: Elemental Skill first, Burst second, Normal Attack never. Levelling the Burst buys healing, not damage, and her Normal Attack is irrelevant on a character who spends the fight off-field. If you are short on Crowns of Insight, the Skill is the only one that deserves a crown.
One energy caveat: Lumi generates no particles when summoned. She produces 3 only on specific hits — her first attack in Super Power Form, then every 4th Pummeler or every 2nd Heavy Overdrive Hammer. Because the Burst is a heal rather than a damage button, run it off-cadence rather than sacrificing the DEF% sands for Energy Recharge.
What are the best artifacts for Linnea?
There are two real sets, and the choice depends on which half of her damage you are feeding. Her Pound-Pound Pummeler hits are ordinary Geo damage. Her Heavy Overdrive Hammer and Million Ton Crush are Lunar-Crystallize reaction damage, which uses a completely different formula — one with no elemental DMG bonus term in it at all.
That single fact decides the set:
- Husk of Opulent Dreams (Slumbering Court) — 2-piece DEF +30%, 4-piece stacking Curiosity for up to +24% DEF and +24% Geo DMG Bonus. The Geo DMG Bonus feeds only the plain-Geo half, but the +54% DEF feeds everything. This is the safe default and it carries you past 2,000 DEF on its own.
- Aubade of Morningstar and Moon (Moonchild's Treasures) — 2-piece Elemental Mastery +80, 4-piece Lunar Reaction DMG +20% while off-field, +40% more once the party reaches Ascendant Gleam. That is +60% on the reaction half, and Linnea is off-field by design. It wins if your team actually reaches Ascendant Gleam and your Lunar-Crystallize triggers are frequent.
Main stats are the same either way: sands DEF%, goblet Geo DMG Bonus (or DEF% if you are short of the breakpoint), circlet CRIT DMG. Substats go DEF% and CRIT DMG, then Elemental Mastery, then Energy Recharge. Elemental Mastery is not filler here — the Lunar reaction bonus formula is 6 × EM ÷ (EM + 2000), so 200 Elemental Mastery is worth roughly +55% on the reaction half.
The Aubade build needs watching: without Husk's +30%, a DEF% sands and Golden Frostbound Oath together leave you near 1,580 DEF, more than 400 short. Fix that with a DEF% goblet or circlet rather than hoping for substats.
What are the best weapons for Linnea?
- Golden Frostbound Oath — her signature 5-star Bow, released alongside her on 8 April 2026. 542 base ATK, 88.2% CRIT DMG, and the passive "Dawn's Salutation Returned": DEF +16% at R1, plus a 6-second Frost Fae's Favor state granting +40% Geo DMG and +40% Lunar-Crystallize DMG. While it is active and Moondrifts are nearby, the rest of the party gains +20% to both — and the wiki notes this triggers even when the equipping character is off-field, which is exactly where Linnea lives.
- Covenant of Frost and Snow — a craftable 4-star from the Kuznets series, released 12 August 2026, with its forging diagram sold by Kuzmichev. 510 base ATK, a 51.7% DEF secondary stat, and +120 Elemental Mastery for 12 seconds after an Elemental Skill, rising to +240 at R5. A free R5 bow with the best possible secondary stat and an Elemental Mastery passive feeding the reaction formula is a genuinely strong second place, not a consolation prize.
- Any DEF% or CRIT DMG bow you already own. ATK-stat bows contribute almost nothing beyond base ATK, which Linnea does not use.
One correction worth making explicitly. The wiki's Lunar-Crystallize page lists exactly two weapons that boost the reaction, and the second — Lightbearing Moonshard, with DEF +20% and a +64% Lunar-Crystallize bonus — is a Sword. Linnea cannot equip it. That weapon belongs to Zibai.
Who are the best Linnea teammates?
Start with the rule that governs everything: Moonsign level equals the number of Moonsign characters in the party. One is Nascent Gleam. Two is Ascendant Gleam. Linnea alone gets you Nascent Gleam only — and the following are all gated on Ascendant Gleam: the second −15% Geo RES shred on her 1st Ascension Passive, the enhanced versions of her Skill and Burst, the C2 and C6 Moonsign clauses, and Aubade of Morningstar and Moon's extra +40%.
Lunar-Crystallize is a Hydro plus Geo reaction, so the Hydro slot is mandatory anyway. The elegant answer is to make that slot do both jobs:
- Columbina or Aino — the only two Hydro characters on the ten-name Moonsign roster. Either one applies Hydro and pushes you to Ascendant Gleam in a single slot. Columbina is the 5-star Catalyst; Aino is a 4-star Claymore, which makes her the realistic version of this plan for most accounts.
- Zibai or Illuga — the Geo Moonsign options, and Illuga is a 4-star. Pairing either with Linnea gives Ascendant Gleam plus the Enduring Rock elemental resonance, whose text explicitly accepts "Moondrifts formed by Lunar-Crystallize reactions" in place of a shield: +15% damage and −20% Geo RES on hit. Stacked with Linnea's own −30% at Ascendant Gleam, that is a −50% Geo RES shred. You still need a separate Hydro applier in this shell.
- Navia — her passive grants a Crystal Shrapnel stack when a party member triggers Lunar-Crystallize, up to one per second. See the Navia build guide for her DEF-adjacent gearing.
- Neuvillette — his passive gains a Past Draconic Glories stack from Lunar-Crystallize among other reactions, boosting his Charged Attack. The Neuvillette team guide covers the stack rule.
If you are new to the Moonsign system entirely, our Lunar reactions explainer covers Lunar-Charged, Lunar-Bloom and Lunar-Crystallize side by side.
Where do you farm Linnea's ascension and talent materials?
| Material | Total needed | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Prithiva Topaz | 1 Sliver, 9 Fragment, 9 Chunk, 6 Gemstone | The Open-Eyed, Windrest Peak, Mondstadt |
| Plume of the Fallen Watcher | 46 | The Open-Eyed (Watcher: Fallen Vigil), Lv. 30+ |
| Etherwing Moth | 168 | Mondstadt and the Temple of Space |
| Tattered, Immaculate and Frost-Etched Warrant | 18 / 30 / 36 | Fatui Oprichniki |
| Mora, ascension only | 420,000 | — |
Talent levelling is the expensive half. One talent from 1 to 10 costs 1,652,500 Mora, 6 Tattered plus 22 Immaculate plus 31 Frost-Etched Warrant, 3 Teachings plus 21 Guide plus 38 Philosophies of Vagrancy, 6 Elixir of the Heretic, and 1 Crown of Insight.
The Vagrancy books drop from Lightless Capital in Nod-Krai on Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday. Elixir of the Heretic comes from the Lv. 70+ The Doctor weekly boss. Because the Skill is the only talent carrying damage, one talent to 10 plus a cheap Burst is a reasonable stopping point — and it cuts the weekly boss requirement from 18 Elixirs to 6.

FAQ
Is Linnea a DPS or a support? Both, but off-field. Her official character summary calls her "a Geo character who enables party members to trigger Lunar-Crystallize reactions, while providing sustained off-field damage and support." You summon Lumi, swap out, and Lumi keeps hitting for 25 seconds while Linnea's passives buff the active character.
Does Linnea need Elemental Mastery? Yes, more than most DEF characters do. Her own reaction damage runs through a bonus of 6 × EM ÷ (EM + 2000), so the first 200 Elemental Mastery is worth about +55% on every Lunar-Crystallize hit. It is a secondary priority behind DEF% and CRIT DMG, not a dump stat.
Can Linnea trigger Lunar-Crystallize by herself? No. Lunar-Crystallize needs Hydro applied first and then Geo, so she needs a Hydro teammate regardless of Moonsign level. Her Moonsign Benediction Passive only converts a Hydro Crystallize that someone else sets up.
Is Covenant of Frost and Snow really good enough to replace her signature bow? It is the closest free substitute she has. It is craftable, its secondary stat is DEF, and its Elemental Mastery passive feeds the reaction formula directly. Golden Frostbound Oath still wins overall because it adds 88.2% CRIT DMG, +16% DEF and a party-wide buff that works off-field, but the gap is far smaller than the usual signature-versus-craftable gulf.
Which talent should I crown? The Elemental Skill. Every one of Lumi's three damage values sits in the Skill's scaling table, so crowning the Burst buys healing only, and the Normal Attack is dead weight on an off-field character.
Will Linnea get a rerun? HoYoverse has published nothing. Her only banner ran 8 to 28 April 2026, and the current live wish notices cover Skirk and Escoffier through 3 November 2026. Treat any rerun date you see elsewhere as a leak, not a schedule.
