On 14 September 2026 HoYoverse published Vesna's Character Skill Showcase on HoYoLAB. It is ten images and barely a paragraph of typed text. Every mechanic in her kit — the resource she runs on, what her Elemental Skill does, how she moves, which materials you need to farm — is drawn inside those pictures, which is why most Vesna coverage this week repeats the same two lines and stops. So we read the pictures, panel by panel, at full resolution.
Quick answer: Vesna's banner, the "When Warm Winds Cavort" Event Wish, opens after the Version 7.1 update on 23 September 2026. She is an Anemo on-field DPS built around Stellar Swirl Reactions, and her Elemental Skill puts her into Core DPS Mode, which boosts Interruption RES, converts her Normal Attack DMG into Anemo DMG and lets her spend Sword Essence on special Elemental Skill attacks. Sword Essence caps at 3 stacks: Elemental Skill grants +2, Elemental Burst grants +1, and Normal Attacks in Core DPS Mode build it too. Each stack spent makes the next special Skill or Burst hit harder. Out of combat she can fly — hold Sprint or Jump and she takes off, and she can be swapped to mid-air. HoYoverse has not published her rarity, her stats, or a single talent multiplier.
Article status: verified 17 September 2026. The kit is transcribed image by image from the official Character Skill Showcase — "Snowy Banquet's Sharp Blade" Vesna posted to HoYoLAB on 14 September 2026 (post 46688739); the banner name and date come from that post's typed text. The weapon line-up comes from the official Version 7.1 "A Rekviem for the Underworld" New Weapon Overview (post 46712931, 15 September 2026), and her background from her introduction post of 17 August 2026 (post 46329024). Version 7.0 "Everwinter Without Mercy" is still live as this is written. No leak, beta build or datamine is used anywhere in this article.
When does the Vesna banner start?
After the Version 7.1 update on 23 September 2026. HoYoverse states it directly in the showcase post, which is one of the very few typed sentences in the whole thing:
"The 'When Warm Winds Cavort' Event Wish will be available after the Version 7.1 update on September 23. During this event, 'Snowy Banquet's Sharp Blade' Vesna (Anemo) will receive a huge drop rate boost!"
Two useful details hide in that quote. Her banner has an official name — "When Warm Winds Cavort" — and her element is printed as Anemo in HoYoverse's own copy, not inferred from a trailer. Vodyanitsa's showcase, published the same day, names her banner "Surging Ballad" and prints her as Hydro.
The 23 September date matches the "09/23 Version 7.1 Update" marker on HoYoverse's official Version 7.1 Event Calendar, and every time on that calendar is UTC+8. No maintenance-window notice has been published, so anyone quoting you an exact server-down time right now is guessing. Full version timing is in our Genshin 7.1 release date breakdown, and the phase structure in the Genshin banner schedule for September 2026.
What does Vesna actually do?
The showcase opens with a one-line thesis panel, and it is worth taking literally:
"Strong On-Field DPS with Stellar Swirl Reactions — Boosts the Whole Party's Stellar Swirl Reaction DMG!"
That is two claims stacked. She is an on-field carry, not a support who leaves, and she is tied to Stellar Swirl, the reaction family introduced with the Stellar Linchpin system in Version 7.0. Vesna is one of the Stellar Linchpin bearers — her August introduction prints her Anemo power as a Stellar Linchpin, not a Vision, a distinction HoYoverse marks explicitly on its drip-marketing element line and the reason she can work with Stellar Glimmer reactions at all.
Her Normal Attack string is named "Vila Blade Dance" — a nod to the ancient Vila bloodline of House Strivozha she comes from — and she fights with a sword in every frame of the showcase. HoYoverse has still not printed a weapon-type line in text, so treat "sword user" as visually confirmed rather than formally stated.
How does Core DPS Mode and Sword Essence work?
This is the heart of the build, and it is drawn entirely as an infographic. Her Elemental Skill is titled "The Art of Victory." The panel reads:
"After a character in the party triggers a Stellar Swirl Reaction nearby, Vesna can follow up with multiple bursts of Stellar Swirl Reaction DMG."
Pressing E puts her into Core DPS Mode, which the showcase labels with three effects:
- Boosts Interruption RES — she is meant to stand in the fight, not dance out of it
- Converts Normal Attack DMG into Anemo DMG — her whole string becomes elemental, which is what feeds the reaction loop
- Consumes Sword Essence to use multiple special Elemental Skill attacks and deal bursts of Reaction DMG
Sword Essence is her resource. Three rules are printed on the panel:
- It stores up to 3 stacks, and rebuilds after use
- Sword Essence +1 = one special Elemental Skill use — the conversion is one-to-one, not a percentage bar
- Generation is split three ways: Elemental Skill grants +2, Elemental Burst grants +1, and Normal Attacks in Core DPS Mode build it as well (the panel shows an incrementing trickle rather than a fixed number, so the per-hit rate is not published)
The payoff line is the part most summaries have missed:
"For each Sword Essence stack consumed, or whenever Elemental Burst is used: [increased] DMG dealt by the next special Elemental Skill / Elemental Burst."
The chibi caption next to it says "Each one stronger than the last~". In plain terms: spending Sword Essence is not a flat repeat. It ramps. That single rule is what decides how you play her.
What is the best Vesna rotation?
HoYoverse published two, on a panel titled "Flexible Combos." They are opposites, and both are official:
The reactive line. "After using your Elemental Skill, just hit whatever lights up!" You press E and spend Sword Essence as prompts appear. Low planning cost, steady output.
The burst-window line. "Or save up your Sword Essence, wait for the right moment, then fire off several special Elemental Skills in one go!" You bank to 3 stacks and dump them inside one window.
Given the escalating-damage rule above, the second line is the one that scales. Each spent stack buffs the next special Skill, so three consecutive spends end on a hit a single spend never reaches. Against a boss with a stagger window, banking is the higher ceiling; against a wave that dies to the first hit anyway, the reactive line loses nothing. No multipliers have been published, so nobody can hand you an exact damage split today.
Her Elemental Burst, titled "For the Tsaritsa!", is described in one sentence: "Summons a host of Spirit Blades, dealing Anemo AoE DMG that is considered Stellar Swirl Reaction DMG." Two things follow. It counts as reaction damage rather than plain Anemo, so it scales with whatever raises Stellar Swirl. And it grants +1 Sword Essence and triggers the escalation bonus, which makes Burst a rotation tool rather than a finisher you dump and forget.
Who are the best Vesna teammates?
HoYoverse ran a team-building panel with six character portraits and this caption:
"Teammates of any element can all help increase Vesna's ATK↑ / Elemental Mastery↑ Stellar Swirl Reaction DMG in different ways. Try pairing her with these characters:"
The portraits are printed at thumbnail size without name labels, so we are not going to list six guesses as if they were official. What the caption does establish is more useful than the roster anyway: Vesna is not element-locked. HoYoverse is explicitly saying any element can support her, through three separate routes — ATK buffs, Elemental Mastery buffs, and direct Stellar Swirl Reaction DMG bonuses.
That is good news for a free-to-play account. A character whose supports must share an element forces you to build a second unit you may not own; one who takes ATK, EM or reaction-damage buffs from anywhere slots into a team you already have. Our Genshin 7.1 characters breakdown covers both debuts.
Can Vesna fly in Genshin Impact?
Yes, and this is the feature the community has reacted to hardest. The Movement panel is blunt about it:
"Outside of combat, hold Sprint or Jump to let Vesna take to the skies, where she can sprint or jump in midair."
And it adds a second, sharper line: "Switch to Vesna while airborne, and she can immediately spread her wings and soar across most areas of Snezhnaya." She does not need to land and restart. She picks up mid-glide.
Her own in-character caption is "A Druzhna soldier should be able to fly — and do it with grace!", which is the kind of copy HoYoverse only writes when the traversal is the selling point. Threads on r/Genshin_Impact this week are already testing her flight range against Chasca's and stacking Anemo stamina reductions to push it further — though those distance figures come out of pre-release test footage, not the live game, so treat every specific number circulating right now as provisional. One widely-upvoted r/Genshin_Impact comment summed the reaction up as "Fairy Navia design + amazing personality and voice + exploration creep + fun kit."
"Exploration creep" is the right phrase. HoYoverse is selling free flight over Snezhnaya as a reason to pull, which turns map traversal into a character-selection decision rather than a glider one.
What ascension materials does Vesna need?
The final panel, titled "Time for 'Tuition'", shows the material line-up as icons with no names printed. We can describe what is on screen without inventing labels for it.
Ascension Materials — four slots:
- The Anemo gem line (the standard green elemental gem tier)
- An orange elite-enemy drop
- A blue crystalline boss material
- A new Snezhnaya local specialty, drawn as a small fish-shaped item and flagged with an explicit "NEW" badge
Talent Level-Up Materials — three slots: a talent book series, the same blue crystalline material, and a red weekly-boss drop.
The fourth icon's NEW badge is the actionable part. It is a Snezhnaya local specialty that does not exist in the game yet, so there is nothing to pre-farm for that slot no matter what any pre-farm guide tells you. The other three are the ones worth stockpiling now.
HoYoverse attached a quality-of-life note to the same panel that is easy to miss: "After the Version 7.1 update, if your party includes a character who can locate Snezhnaya Local Specialties, their locations will be displayed on the minimap while in the Shadow Realm."
And one more line that matters if you are undecided: "Complete 'Test Run' and Archon Quest Chapter VII: Act IV – 'A Rekviem for the Underworld' within the specified duration to receive certain Ascension Materials, which can be used to increase the character's level to Level 60." A free Test Run plus the new Archon Quest act gets your copy to Level 60 without touching your own material stock.
What weapon should Vesna use?
Version 7.1 adds two new 5-star weapons, both published in the official New Weapon Overview: "Beyond the Chrysalis" (Sword) and "Hymn of the Maelstrom" (Catalyst). A new 5-star sword arriving in the same version as a new sword-wielding Anemo carry is a pattern anyone can read — but HoYoverse has not called it her signature weapon and has not published its passive text, so we are not going to label it one.
The same overview lists three event-exclusive 4-stars — "New Bough" (Sword), "Winter's Heavy Heart" (Catalyst) and "Breezeborne Refrain" (Bow) — plus an event weapon, "Silver Light" (Sword), obtainable from the event "Silverwing in Pursuit of the Moon." That is two separate free-sword routes landing in the same version as a sword carry, which is not usually a coincidence either.
What HoYoverse has not published about Vesna
Worth stating plainly, because the gap is where bad guides live:
- Her rarity. No official 5-star line exists. Every character who has headlined a Character Event Wish with a "huge drop rate boost" has been a 5-star, so the inference is safe — but it is an inference.
- Any stat. No base ATK, no ascension stat, no HP or DEF figures.
- Any talent multiplier. Not one number, for any talent, at any level.
- Constellations. Her Constellation is named Amentum Vernum, from her August introduction. The six effects are unpublished.
- Artifact recommendations. HoYoverse never publishes these pre-release, and the 7.1 artifact sets have not been announced either.
- Sword Essence generation from Normal Attacks. The showcase confirms it happens. It does not say how fast.
Anything that fills one of those six gaps with a specific number today is either reading a beta build or making it up.
FAQ
When does Vesna release in Genshin Impact? On 23 September 2026, with the Version 7.1 update. Her banner, the "When Warm Winds Cavort" Event Wish, becomes available after the update, per HoYoverse's own showcase post of 14 September 2026.
What element is Vesna? Anemo. HoYoverse prints "Vesna (Anemo)" in the showcase text. Her power comes from a Stellar Linchpin rather than a Vision, which ties her to the Stellar Swirl reaction family introduced in Version 7.0.
Is Vesna a 5-star? HoYoverse has not published her rarity. She headlines a Character Event Wish with a "huge drop rate boost," which has only ever described a featured 5-star, but no official rarity line exists as of 17 September 2026.
What weapon does Vesna use? A sword. She uses one in every frame of the official showcase and her Normal Attack is titled "Vila Blade Dance," though HoYoverse has not printed a weapon-type line in text.
What is Sword Essence? Vesna's resource. It stacks to 3, and each stack pays for one special Elemental Skill attack in Core DPS Mode. Her Elemental Skill grants +2, her Elemental Burst grants +1, and Normal Attacks during Core DPS Mode generate more. Each stack spent increases the damage of her next special Skill or Burst.
Can Vesna fly outside of combat? Yes. Holding Sprint or Jump lets her take to the skies, where she can sprint or jump in midair, and switching to her while already airborne lets her spread her wings immediately across most of Snezhnaya.
What ascension materials does Vesna need? Four slots: the Anemo gem line, an orange elite-enemy drop, a blue crystalline boss material, and a brand-new Snezhnaya local specialty flagged NEW in the showcase. The new specialty does not exist in the game yet, so it cannot be pre-farmed before 23 September.
Are Vesna's talent multipliers known? No. HoYoverse has published zero numbers for any of her talents. Any multiplier table circulating before 23 September comes from a pre-release build, not from an official source.
The short version
Vesna is an Anemo on-field carry whose loop runs on a 3-stack resource that makes each spend stronger than the last, and whose Elemental Burst feeds that loop instead of ending it. The optimisation question is not which element to pair her with — HoYoverse has explicitly said any element works — it is whether you spend Sword Essence as it arrives or bank all three for one window. Everything else, from her rarity to a single damage number, is unpublished until 23 September.
Useful preparation before then is narrow: stockpile the three farmable ascension slots, leave the fourth alone because it does not exist yet, and clear Archon Quest Chapter VII Act IV when it drops so the free Level 60 materials land.
