Quick answer (TLDR): Modern Warfare 4 has no official bot lobby mode and no SBMM toggle. To get easier games for free, queue from the Popular Modes tab, farm AI forces in DMZ, or use Shipment 24/7 for pure kill volume. To get a guaranteed easy lobby, book a hosted session like timesaver.gg's MW4 bot lobbies, where you play on your own account and never share your login. Skip reverse boosting and "XP glitch" videos: Limited Matchmaking can stop your progress altogether.
Getting a bot lobby in MW4 is harder than it was in Black Ops 7, because the game launched on October 23 without labelled Open Matchmaking playlists. Infinity Ward hasn't explained how the system works either. Multiplayer creative director Joe Cecot told IGN:
"Though we're not talking about exact specifics on matchmaking, our end goal is that every match is a good match."
So any guide promising a secret setting is selling you something. These are the eight routes players actually use, ranked by what you get for the effort. If you want the background on how matchmaking got here, our MW4 SBMM breakdown covers it.

What counts as a bot lobby in MW4?
The phrase covers three different things, and most bad advice comes from mixing them up:
- Real AI opponents. These appear in DMZ and in Private Matches.
- Soft public lobbies. These are normal matches where the other players are simply weaker than you.
- Hosted lobbies. A service arranges a private session and fills the other side with inactive opponents.
If you're after camos or weapon levels, the only question that matters is whether the match pays out real progression.
Method 1: Book a hosted bot lobby (the guaranteed route)
This is the only option that gives you an easy lobby on demand, and it's the one we sell. An MW4 bot lobby from timesaver.gg is a private session our team hosts, filled with inactive opponents, so you can farm kills and challenge progress at your own pace.
Here's how an order works:
- Pick your options. Choose your platform (PlayStation, Xbox, PC or Nintendo Switch 2), the number of lobbies and your queue: Standard (0-6 hours), High Priority (0-4 hours) or Instant (0-1 hour).
- Confirm your slot in chat. A coordinator sets up the session with you.
- Play the lobby yourself. You stay signed in to your own account and get every kill yourself. We never ask for your login, and we don't use cheats, injectors or third-party software.
- Check your profile. You confirm the progress landed before the order closes.
Two add-ons are worth knowing about. Premium Lobby gives you a session with no other customers, plus an express queue, which helps with awkward challenges. Play with friend brings a teammate along. The order can be refunded in full any time before it starts.
Whichever seller you pick, run the same check: if anyone asks for your Activision login, walk away.
Method 2: Queue from the Popular Modes tab
This is the best free trick right now. IGN confirmed that a persistent lobby option sits inside the Popular Modes tab. Persistent lobbies matter because in a normal SBMM playlist you get a fresh lobby after every match.
YouTuber TheXclusiveAce went further and reported that Popular Modes use looser matchmaking. Insider Gaming saw persistent lobbies in Team Deathmatch and Domination there, and Dexerto suggests choosing Search and Destroy or Team Deathmatch from that tab over Quick Play.
Treat the "looser SBMM" part as a community finding. Activision hasn't confirmed it, and Game Rant still reports no minimal-skill playlists. It costs nothing to try, though, and if you land a soft lobby you can stay in it.
Method 3: Farm the AI in DMZ
DMZ is the closest thing MW4 has to an official bot lobby. Activision describes it as a mode where you "engage AI forces and rival Operators" (DMZ guide), and the AI counts toward your grind:
"Because non-player targets count in DMZ, Special Camo Challenges typically require a higher kill count in that extraction mode compared to Multiplayer or Call of Duty: Warzone." (Activision, Progression and Prestige)
Weapon XP is earned in both Multiplayer and DMZ, and the camo grind is shared across modes, so anything you earn here carries over. The catch is the higher targets: Gold takes 100 eliminations in one DMZ match, compared with 15 in one Multiplayer match. DMZ works best for weapon levels and Special camos. For Gold, Multiplayer usually gets you there sooner.
Method 4: Use Shipment 24/7 for kill volume
Shipment won't make your opponents worse, but it packs so many fights into a match that weak lobbies matter less. Shipment 24/7 went live on October 27, and players quickly built a weapon XP routine around it. Our Shipment XP farm guide has the full setup. Playlists rotate, so check it's still there before planning a session around it.

Method 5: Set up a Private Match with bots
You can run a Private Match against bots, and launch-week tutorials show it working, including on Switch 2. It's free and fully allowed, and it's a good place to learn a map or test a build. You'll still need to be online, since Activision says MW4 needs a continuous connection for Multiplayer, "including in Private Matches."
We couldn't find any Activision statement on whether Private Matches pay Weapon XP or camo progress in MW4, and older Call of Duty games were stingy here. Check one match on the weapon you care about before you spend an evening on it.
Why VPNs, second accounts, reverse boosting and glitches are poor options
VPN. The pitch rarely survives testing. Kotaku, citing Gizmodo's tests, found that most "bot lobby countries" on four big VPNs were really servers in cities like Marseille, Frankfurt and Singapore. Only Nigeria and South Africa had real servers, at about 146-147 ms to Lagos and 210-223 ms to Johannesburg from Europe. At that ping you lose gunfights you should win. Activision's policy doesn't mention VPNs by name, but it does list spoofing, defined as "any attempt to hide, disguise, or obfuscate your identity or the identity of your hardware devices."
Second account. A fresh account can land softer matches for a while, but it usually means paying for another copy of the game, and nothing you unlock transfers to your main.
Reverse boosting. Throwing matches on purpose is slow and it's the riskiest thing on this list. Game Rant warns that boosting or reverse boosting can land you in Limited Matchmaking or earn a temporary or permanent ban. You also waste hours losing just to get a short easy window.
"XP glitch" videos. "Bot lobby glitch" clips show up every launch. Activision's policy lists Glitching and Boosting as separate infractions, so anything relying on an exploit puts your account on the line.
Can you get banned for MW4 bot lobbies?
Yes, the risk is real, and no seller can honestly promise otherwise. That includes us. Activision's policy doesn't mention bot lobbies by name, but it defines boosting broadly:
"Exploiting the game for the purpose of gaining XP, prestige, game score, weapon level, or in-game unlock." (Activision, Security and Enforcement Policy)
The method changes your exposure. Cheats, injectors and memory tools are a different category from playing a match yourself, and handing over your login adds a second risk, because Activision says "the account holder is responsible for any infraction on the account."
The penalty most people miss is Limited Matchmaking. Under the same policy, accounts in that state are matched with similar accounts, their party members can be affected too, and they "may not earn progression" in those lobbies. Only permanent bans can be appealed. For more on that trade-off, read how MW4 bot lobbies work and whether they're worth it.
What should you farm first in an MW4 bot lobby?
Lobby time goes furthest on challenges that are miserable in sweaty matches. With 33 weapons at launch and one shared camo grind, this is the order we'd use:
- Gold camos. After a gun's Military and Special camos, Gold needs 15 eliminations in a single Multiplayer match, which is the clearest win for an easy lobby.
- Special camo challenges. Mounted kills, longshots and double kills all get easier when nobody is pushing you.
- Platinum class challenges. Each class has its own task, such as headshots on assault rifles. Our MW4 camo challenges guide lists them.
- Weapon levels. Run a Double Weapon XP Token while you do any of the above, because Military camos unlock from Weapon Level alone.
The timing matters too. Season 1 goes live at midnight ET on November 6 (9 PM PT on November 5) and adds the CSG-35 and Cronen Osprey to the grind, so clearing your backlog this week puts you ahead of two new guns.
Want a lobby without the guesswork? Book a session on your own account, on any platform, and we'll handle the setup.
- MW4 Bot Lobbies: private hosted sessions for kills, XP and challenge progress, played by you.
- MW4 Mastery Camo Unlock: for when you want the camo grind handled for you.
- MW4 Weapon Leveling: max out guns and unlock attachments faster.
- MW4 Account Leveling: skip the road to your next Prestige.
FAQ
How do you get bot lobbies in MW4? There's no official setting for it. For free, queue through the Popular Modes tab and farm AI in DMZ. For a guaranteed easy lobby, book a hosted session such as timesaver.gg's MW4 bot lobbies, which you play on your own account.
Does MW4 have an official bot lobby mode? No. Private Matches let you play against bots, and DMZ has AI forces, but no public playlist puts you against bots. A "bot lobby" in public Multiplayer simply means weaker human opponents.
Do bot lobbies count for camos in MW4? It depends on the type. DMZ AI counts toward camo challenges, as Activision confirms. Activision hasn't said whether Private Matches count, so test one before relying on them. Hosted sessions should pay real progress, and a good seller lets you confirm it on your profile before the order closes.
Are MW4 bot lobbies bannable? They can be. Activision doesn't name bot lobbies, but its boosting rule covers exploiting the game for XP, weapon levels or unlocks. Avoid cheats, glitches and anyone who asks for your login, and remember that no provider can guarantee zero risk.
Does a VPN get you bot lobbies in MW4? Rarely. Most VPN locations in "bot lobby countries" are virtual, so your real server stays elsewhere, and the ones that are real add around 150-220 ms of ping from Europe.
Can you turn off SBMM in MW4? No. There's no SBMM toggle, and Activision hasn't confirmed any low-SBMM playlist. Popular Modes are the closest thing players have found, and that remains a community finding.
