Quick answer
GOAT Skills in NBA 2K27 are temporary MyCAREER boosts. You equip them under Pause > Progression > GOAT Skills, fill the on-screen condition during a game, then click the right stick to activate. The boost raises the attributes listed on that skill for a limited time. Players report 5 activations per tier, so about 15 activations take a skill from Bronze to Hall of Fame, if it goes that high.
The part most players miss is the money. Every skill has its own VC quest, and creators report it pays about 1,000, 2,500, 5,000 and 10,000 VC, with the last tier at 100 activations. That is about 18,500 VC per skill. Separate category quests reportedly pay up to 10,000 VC at 30 activations. We found no 2K-published payout list, so treat every VC figure here as player-reported. This guide was checked on October 30, 2026, during Season 2 and after Update 2.0.
GOAT Skills are not GOAT Builds. Those are the 18 legend MyPLAYER builds that arrived in Season 2. GOAT Skills work on any eligible MyPLAYER.
What are GOAT Skills in NBA 2K27?
A GOAT Skill is a short in-game power-up with a condition attached. Most ask you to do something specific a set number of times. JT11 Games shows examples in its 2K27 walkthrough: get five perfect shot releases, or make five mid-range shots without a miss. MVP Romania shows another shooting skill that asks for five three-pointers without a bad three.
Once active, the skill pushes its listed attributes to high values. In JT11's game, Block, Steal, Mid-Range and Three-Point all went to 99. That matters most on ratings your build skipped, because a boost to 99 Block helps a 25 Block guard far more than a 95 Block center.
Skills are sorted into categories on the menu. The tutorial channel Games & Apps Tutorials shows Finishing, Shooting, Playmaking and Defense. Skill names seen in 2K27 videos include Long Ranger, Pretty Mid, Fancy Feet and Open Season. Brotha Jones counted about 25 on the quest screen, though that is one creator's count and not a 2K number.
Where do GOAT Skills work?
Only in MyCAREER games and Open Court, based on player reports:
| Mode | GOAT Skills work? | Source |
|---|---|---|
| MyCAREER NBA games | Yes | Multiple creators |
| Open Court Athletics games | Yes | Jay Mac TV, r/NBA2k |
| Street ball courts | No | Jay Mac TV |
| The City, REC, Park | Not reported | No source shows them active |
| Female MyPLAYER | Quests missing | r/NBA2k, 2K's City-only rule |
The last row has a first-party reason behind it. 2K's City page describes Female MyPLAYERs as a City-only experience, so they don't have a MyCAREER NBA path. One player asked on October 17 why the activation quests were missing from their menu on a Female MyPLAYER, and replies pointed to exactly that.
How do you unlock and equip GOAT Skills?
You get a default skill based on your position, and more unlock as you progress. To change it:
- Press Pause in MyCAREER.
- Open Progression, then pick GOAT Skills near the bottom.
- Press A on Xbox or X on PlayStation to change your equipped skill.
- Browse the categories and flick the right stick to see what the next tier adds.
- Choose a condition you'll actually hit. A three-point skill is useless on a 60 Three-Point center, no matter how good the boost looks.
How do you activate a GOAT Skill?
Play until the on-screen condition fills. When it's ready, the skill icon appears at the top right. Click the right stick straight down (R3 on PlayStation, RS on Xbox) and the boost starts, per MVP Romania's activation clip.
Two details trip people up:
- It doesn't fire on its own. Filling the condition only makes the skill ready. You still have to click the stick, and ChrisP2K's run only counts once it is activated.
- Lower tiers are limited. JT11 reports one activation per game on a low-tier skill. Hall of Fame is reported as unlimited per game.
How do you upgrade GOAT Skills to Hall of Fame?
Activate it. MVP Romania lays out the ladder: five activations on Bronze for Silver, five on Silver for Gold, and five on Gold for Hall of Fame. JT11's video points the same way on the total: its skill card shows a counter of 6 out of 15 activations toward the top tier. JT11 calls that skill Bronze at 6, though, so the exact promotion point may differ from skill to skill. Read the counter on your card.
Each tier improves the stats, and some improve duration. MVP Romania's Hall of Fame example lasts five minutes with unlimited activations per game. Not every skill goes all the way, though. The same video shows skills capped at Bronze, Silver and Gold, so check the top tier on the card before you commit a slot to one.
How much VC do GOAT Skills give?
There are two quest families, and mixing them up explains most of the conflicting numbers online. Open your Quests menu and look under the MyCAREER quests for the GOAT Skills section.
Per-skill quests. Each skill has a four-tier "activate this skill" quest. llockk reports 10,000 VC at the 100th activation, then 5,000, then 2,500, and "I think" 1,000 for the first tier. Jay Mac TV gives nearly the same ladder, unsure if the first tier is 1,000 or 1,500. ChrisP2K's Long Ranger run shows the first tier at 5 activations and the last at 100. We couldn't confirm the two middle thresholds.
Category Accolade quests. These sit at the bottom of the list and need only 30 activations. Reports differ:
| Source | Tier 1 | Tier 2 | Tier 3 | Total |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| llockk, Season 1 | 2,500 VC | 7,500 VC | 10,000 VC | 20,000 VC |
| r/NBA2k post, Oct 30 | 2,000 VC | 5,000 VC | 10,000 VC | 17,000 VC |
| Reply on the same post | 1,000 VC | 2,500 VC | 5,000 VC | 8,500 VC |
The Reddit post places the tiers at 5, 15 and 30 activations across Shooting, Finishing, Playmaking and Defense/Rebound. Your quest screen settles it, but note that Brotha Jones says the final reward on skill quests isn't displayed up front.
One figure we couldn't reproduce: ChrisP2K says "if you complete all four tiers of your goat skill achievements, you get 90,000 VC." That doesn't match a single skill's reported ladder, and his video doesn't show the breakdown. It may be a running total across several quests.
The useful math is VC per activation:
| Quest | VC | Activations | VC per activation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Per-skill, full ladder | 18,500 | 100 | 185 |
| Category, low report | 8,500 | 30 | 283 |
| Category, middle report | 17,000 | 30 | 567 |
| Category, high report | 20,000 | 30 | 667 |
So target the category quests first. They pay at least 50% more per activation on the lowest report, and more than triple on the highest. It shouldn't cost you anything either: the skill you activate is working through its own ladder at the same time, based on how creators describe grinding both, though we found no 2K confirmation. Check both counters after your first game. If every skill paid the same ladder, 25 skills would total around 460,000 VC, but that would take about 2,500 activations. Nobody needs that. Pick your favorite skills and let the rest go.
What is the fastest way to finish GOAT Skill quests?
The best-reported route is Open Court Athletics on Rookie. Open Court is a training gym on the MyCAREER map, and Moe Gaming shows how to find it. Games are short: Jay Mac TV earned 350 to 440 VC a game depending on grade. He estimates about 4,000 VC for 10 three-minute games, or about 8,000 VC an hour, and up to 10,000 to 12,000 VC an hour at his best pace of about 2.5 minutes a game. Treat the top of that range as a ceiling, since menus and intros take time too.
- Set Game Difficulty to Rookie in your MyCAREER options.
- Equip two skills from the same category, if you have two slots. The Oct 30 Reddit post says a save that started Fire & Concrete only allows one per game, while a blank slate or Eras save allows two. This is one player's report, so check your own menu.
- Walk into Open Court Athletics and start a run from the court menu.
- Hit the condition, click the right stick, repeat. At two a game, 30 activations takes 15 games.
- Stack it with Build Specialization. Jay Mac TV picks skills that also advance his specialization track, so the same shots pay twice.
The same poster estimates "around 20k VC in about an hour" for one category. Our estimate below uses 300 to 400 VC a game and the three reported Accolade ladders, so the same 15 games pay 13,000 to 26,000 VC instead of 4,500 to 6,000 VC. The Reddit figure sits inside that range, and the bump only happens once per category.
The speed version. ChrisP2K skips the rest of the game. He activates Long Ranger, opens the pause menu, quits and hits rematch, getting two activations in about four minutes. For his skill, the threes don't need to go in. The tradeoff is losing the 300 to 400 VC a finished game pays. It makes the most sense when you're close to a big payout: ChrisP2K went from 90 to 100 activations in about 10 minutes for the final tier. Early in a ladder, you don't know the remaining threshold, so finish the game.
Also remember this is one-time money. Once a quest is done, it's gone, and one Reddit reply says the quests are account-wide, so a new build may not pay again. For repeatable income, use the routes in our how to earn VC fast guide, and for the long game see Lifetime Challenges.
How do you turn off the GOAT Skill animation?
The activation graphic costs roughly 10 seconds, by ChrisP2K's estimate, and that adds up over 100 activations. MVP Romania turns it off under Options > Customize HUD > GOAT Skills Graphics. ChrisP2K reaches the same GOAT Skill Graphic toggle at the bottom of the list in the gameplay hub. Set it to Off.
Why are my GOAT Skills not working or showing up?
Run through these in order:
- No quests listed? Start an NBA career. Players in this thread only saw them after doing so, and one fix was choosing Chapter 6 when starting Fire & Concrete. Our skip Fire & Concrete guide covers that screen.
- Wrong mode? Use MyCAREER games or Open Court, not street ball courts.
- Quest stuck or wrongly complete? 2K has patched this. Patch Notes v2.0, posted October 8, 2026, say: "Rebirth, MyPOINTS Accelerator, Workout Warrior, GOAT Skills, and other special quests can now start progressing again if userdata had been previously corrupted or lost." The same notes add: "GOAT Skill Accolade quests that were incorrectly marked complete following Co-Op games will now proceed as expected."
- Finished but no VC? Restart the game, then contact 2K Support with a clip of the completed quest and your platform ID. See the full Update 2.0 notes for what's already been fixed.
