Quick answer
Parallels are alternate looks for a MyTEAM Player Card, and adding one takes two steps. Use a Game Changer from your Consumables on the card, then open that card's Parallels tab and select the new look. Skip the second step and the card stays Base, which is the usual reason a parallel seems missing or a parallel challenge sits at 0/5.
The four parallels 2K has named are On Fire, Glass, Holo and Gem. The look is the point: 2K calls merging parallels "purely visual", and it doesn't touch a card's XP, Badges or Shoes. Their practical use is meeting Exchange and Challenge requirements.
Be careful with Merge Parallels. It adds a parallel to one card, but players report the second copy is gone afterward, so don't merge a duplicate you could sell.
Facts below were checked on November 1, 2026, during Season 2 on Update 2.0. 2K explains the system, but it hasn't published a full list of sources, so reported details are labeled as reported.
What are parallels in NBA 2K27 MyTEAM?
Parallels are new in NBA 2K27. 2K's MyTEAM Courtside Report describes them this way:
"Parallels act as alternate versions of a base Player Card, spanning across distinct Holo, Glass, Gem, and On Fire Parallels, and many more."
That "many more" leaves room for later designs. As of this check, the in-game capture in that report lists five options on a card: Base, On Fire, Glass, Holo and Gem.
Don't confuse a parallel with a tier. A Gem Tier is the card's rarity level tied to its overall. A Gem Parallel is only a visual design. Adding Gem to a 90 OVR card leaves it a 90 OVR card.
Which Game Changer adds which parallel?
Parallels you apply yourself come from Game Changers, which are single-use consumables. One August 28 walkthrough by Dcentric shows the row below. The Ignite count drops from 2 to 1 after use, so each card you apply is spent.
| Game Changer | Parallel it adds | How sure are we? |
|---|---|---|
| Ignite | On Fire | Shown applying On Fire in the walkthrough |
| Handle With Care | Glass | Its art sits on the Add Parallel step before the Glass challenge |
| Make It Shine | Holo | Inferred from the holographic art and the 2K26 card of the same name |
| Precious | Gem | Inferred from the crystal art |
| Bonus Player XP | None | Same row, but it's an XP boost by its name |
Read the description on your own card before applying it, since 2K hasn't printed this list. If you're looking for On Fire and can't find it, the one you need is Ignite, not a card with "Fire" in the name.
How do you add a parallel to a card?
Follow this order. The route comes from in-game footage and matches what players describe on r/MyTeam:
- Open MyTEAM Collection, then Consumables.
- Choose Game Changers, then Player Cards.
- Pick the Game Changer you want and choose to apply it to a player.
- Select the card and confirm. The prompt reads "Would you like to apply Add Parallel to [player]?"
- Go to your lineup or Collection and open that Player Card.
- Move across the top tabs to Parallels, then select the new look.
Step 6 is the one that catches people. In the walkthrough, the card still shows its old design after the Game Changer is applied, until the new look is selected from the Parallels tab. One r/MyTeam player put the fix plainly: there's a "second step after applying the parallels".
The tab sits between Player XP and Shoes (Takeovers) on the Player Card. You can swap at any time. 2K says you can "freely alternate between your unlocked visual Parallels at any time from the menus", and that includes going back to Base if you don't like the look.
Where else do parallels come from?
There are three routes with evidence behind them:
- Packs and Auction House cards. 2K says you can "pull duplicate Parallels or find one on the unified Auction House". So a card you buy or pull may already carry one.
- Player XP rewards. Patch Notes v2.0 confirm parallels can be earned this way: "The View/Edit Player menu will now update available Parallels immediately when earned from Player XP rewards." Levels are covered in our Player XP guide.
- Game Changers from rewards. A September prize list from the Daily Ascension board shows "Parallel Game Changer (x2)". This is one player's recording of one board, so it may not match what's live now.
The Glass challenge below also has an Add Parallel step showing Handle With Care art. That suggests the set hands one out, but the screen doesn't state the reward.
One player reported that non-auctionable Game Changers cap at 20 in your inventory. If you're sitting on a stack, use the ones you don't need before they back up. We found no 2K note on that limit, so treat it as a report from September.
Why does a parallel challenge stay at 0/5?
Some Play Now Challenges ask for parallels directly. This screen from September 2026 asks you to "Win 5 games using 2 or more Glass Parallel players":
Players on r/MyTeam hit the same wall on the Glass version and on a Holo version with 2 holo players. Their threads point to three causes, in this order:
- The parallel isn't equipped. Applying it isn't enough. Each player needs that look selected in the Parallels tab before the game.
- The challenge is still locked. These sets run in sequence. The screen above reads "2 of 3", and players say wins don't count until the earlier step is done. One player won 3 Showdown games plus Clutch Time games and stayed at 0/5, and the reply was that the challenge was locked.
- You're short on players. The requirement is 2 or more, so 1 Glass card won't do it. Check that both cards are in the lineup you're actually using.
The screen also shows a Mode selector set to Pick-Up Full Lineup. Check which mode your challenge lists before you queue. These sets carry a Complete By timer, so the exact challenge above has expired, and we can't confirm which parallel challenges are running in Season 2 today. The same checks apply to any new one.
Should you use Merge Parallels?
Usually not, unless the duplicate has no other use. Here's what 2K says happens:
"If you pull duplicate Parallels or find one on the unified Auction House, you can seamlessly merge them right into your existing base Player Card."
2K frames that as a way to avoid discarding a card. Players describe the cost differently. One reply sums it up: you lose one of the cards and keep its parallel on the other. A September thread reported a worse case. A player won an auction for a card they already owned, reached a Merge Parallels screen, and said the extra copy ended up quick-sold for very little.
Use this rule:
| Your duplicate | What to do |
|---|---|
| Untradeable copy with a different parallel | Merge. You can't sell it anyway. |
| Cheap copy you don't plan to sell | Merge if you want the look. |
| Auctionable copy with real MT value | Sell or use it. Don't merge. |
| Copy needed for an Exchange | Hold it. Check The Exchange first. |
2K improved this a little. Patch Notes v2.0 added "a confirmation overlay" before merging from the Duplicates menu, so read that prompt. The note only names the Duplicates menu, so don't assume the same prompt appears on every screen.
If you get stuck on the merge screen after an auction, one player said closing the app leaves the card in your Auction outcomes. That's a single report from before Update 2.0, so don't rely on it for an expensive card.
Do parallels make a card better or worth more?
They don't change how a card plays, based on what 2K has published. 2K says merging is "purely visual" and "won't affect your card's accumulated XP, active Badges, or equipped Shoes." Stat gains come from Player XP, not from the design.
Value is less clear. 2K says that "adding multiple Parallels to a card may increase its overall value on the Auction House". Note the word "may". We haven't seen data showing how much a parallel adds, so don't buy one on the assumption that you'll flip it for profit. Check recent sales on that exact card first, using our Auction House guide.
The real value is flexibility. 2K says parallels give you "more options when completing Exchanges or Challenges", and that's where a spare Game Changer pays off.
Past that, pick what you like. r/MyTeam is split: some like how On Fire frames a card, others find it too aggressive, and several prefer the cleaner Gem look.
What should you do with your Game Changers?
If you're new to the mode, here's the simple order. Our MyTEAM beginner guide covers the rest of the mode.
- Keep two of each type if you can. The challenge above asked for 2 parallel players, so a pair covers that shape of requirement.
- Spend them on cheap cards when a challenge needs one. The requirement is a parallel, not a good card, and you can't get a used Game Changer back.
- Use extras on your starters. Once the challenges are done, the only reason left is how the lineup looks.
- Clear them before the 20 cap. That's the reported limit, so test it against your own stack.

FAQ
How do I get the On Fire parallel in NBA 2K27? Apply the Ignite Game Changer from Collection, Consumables, Game Changers, Player Cards. Then open that card's Parallels tab and select On Fire. You can also pull or buy a card that already has it.
Why isn't my parallel showing on my card? It was probably applied but not selected. Open the Player Card, move to the Parallels tab and choose it. Update 2.0 also fixed that menu not refreshing right after you earned a parallel from Player XP rewards.
Do parallels change a card's rating or attributes? Nothing 2K has published says they do. 2K calls merging parallels "purely visual", and a Gem Parallel is a design, not a Gem Tier.
Can I remove a parallel? Yes, in effect. Open the Parallels tab and select Base. In 2K's capture, Base sits at the top of the list, so you can swap back at any time.
Does merging parallels delete a card? Players report you end up with one card holding both looks, and the second copy is gone. 2K says merging won't affect that card's XP, Badges or Shoes. Treat it as spending the duplicate.
Do parallel Game Changers work on every card? We can't confirm that. 2K says "Traditional Player Cards" can have parallels, and footage shows them on regular player cards. Read the card's description and the prompt before you confirm.
