Quick answer
Casual Corner is NBA 2K27's optional rookie hub in The City, with 3v3 and 5v5 games that change based on your plate color. Black plates play AI. Bronze is a mix. Silver and Gold are PvP. Purple and Red go back to AI and earn nothing.
The earn rates are the part most guides skip. A panel on the in-game 3v3 screen lists 100% for Casual, Hooper and Baller, 75% for Pro, and 0% for MVP and higher. That rate covers REP, MyPOINTS and Badge Progression. Gold plates take a 25% cut on those three things here. Purple and Red plates should go only for a daily challenge.
Facts below were checked on November 1, 2026, during Season 2 on Update 2.0. The in-game screens are from Season 1 Early Access, and we found no patch note that changes them.
Where is Casual Corner in NBA 2K27?
Casual Corner is a physical spot in The City, not a menu mode. Open the map and it sits northwest of The Park, next to the Tattoo Envy store and just below the New Balance and Nike stores. Moe Gaming's walkthrough calls it the "left north-ish side" of the map.
Casual Corner is also in the list on the left of the map, so you can select it and set a waypoint. Look for the big green Casual Corner sign and the stairs under it marked Casual Corner Station. Inside, the station works like a subway stop:
- 3v3 entry for Park-style games
- 5v5 entry for REC-style full games
- Learn 2K and shooting practice
- The Matchmaking Rules board on the wall, which is worth reading once
- An exit back to The City
What is Casual Corner in NBA 2K27?
2K built it to replace the old Casual-only courts. Its August developer Q&A said Casual tier players no longer have exclusive courts in The Theater and Park. This hub took over that job.
The game's own intro screen describes it this way:
"Casual Corner is the perfect location to comfortably learn online play in NBA 2K27 and level up your MyPLAYER at the same time. You will play against opponents of similar experience and skill level, based on your Overall Performance rating."
You get two formats. The 3v3 is Park-style. The side panel on the 3v3 screen says threes are worth 3, everything else is worth 2, and the first side to 21 wins. It also describes these as games with "reduced difficulty." The 5v5 is a REC-style full game. Friends can queue with you, and 2K says that is "not only allowed, but encouraged."
The hub is optional. 2K's City page says you "can leave and skip ahead into The City at any time."
Is Casual Corner bots or real players?
Both. It depends on your plate. This is the board on the wall inside the station:
| Plate | Tier | Who you play | Earn rate |
|---|---|---|---|
| Black | Casual | AI teammates and AI opponents | 100% |
| Bronze | Hooper | Mix of AI and real players | 100% |
| Silver | Baller | Real players | 100% |
| Gold | Pro | Real players, higher skill | 75% |
| Purple | MVP | AI at max ratings and Badges | 0% |
| Red | Hall of Fame | AI at max ratings and Badges | 0% |
Sources: 2K's Casual Corner game guide for opponents, and the in-game wall board and 3v3 side panel for rates.
Bronze is worded three different ways by 2K. The game guide says teammates are real and opponents stay AI. The City page says both teams are "a mix of human players and CPU." The board just says "mix of PvE/PvP." Player reports fit the mix. One r/NBA2k reply describes 5 to 10 bot games, then a game against one player and two bots, and then mostly real players.
Bots still appear at Silver and Gold. Players report AI filling empty spots, especially when the queue is thin. One September thread reported AI-heavy games in 5v5 lobbies.
Some bots have real-looking names. That's why so many people ask this. Zach 2K's Casual Corner test started with him guessing which gamertags were real, and It's Bake called the mode "bot mania" after playing against AI he assumed were people. If a teammate passes back the instant you call for the ball, you've probably got a bot.
What do you earn in Casual Corner at each plate?
The panel comes from Moe Gaming's 3v3 wait screen. A Theater billboard runs behind it, so we cropped that out, but the text is the Casual Corner game description, the rates match the wall board, and the players in that lobby wear Casual Corner jerseys. It spells it out: "Earn rates of REP, MyPOINTS, and Badge Progression based on your current Overall Performance Level."
- Casual, Hooper, Baller: 100%
- Pro: 75%
- MVP and higher: 0%
The board's wording matches, with "75% earnings" for Pro and "no earnings" for MVP and Hall of Fame. 2K's guide goes wider for those top two tiers:
"VC, Season XP, REP, and Badge progression are no longer earned here. The REC, The Theater, and the rest of The City are waiting."
That explains a common complaint. Red plates who enter Casual Corner see 0% badge progress and assume the mode is broken. It isn't. As one r/NBA2k reply put it: "Us red plates literally don't get a single thing for it."
One gap to note: the game doesn't publish a base REP or VC rate for Casual Corner, and Season XP isn't on the panel's list. Nobody can honestly tell you what 100% works out to per game, so we won't guess.
Why Silver is the sweet spot
Silver is the last plate that earns the full rate, and it has real PvP on top. Black plates also earn 100%, but players report leaving that tier within about 10 games. Gold gets 75% of the normal rate here, while the panel's penalty doesn't apply in The Theater or The REC. Quick 3v3 games may still suit a Gold plate, because 2K publishes no per-hour numbers to compare.
Why are there 99 overalls in Casual Corner?
Your plate tracks performance, not overall. A 99 with a Silver plate belongs in Silver lobbies by the game's rules, which is why players keep posting about 99s in a rookie hub. Double H showed the other direction by making a 60 overall on a new account. With a 78 three-point rating, he was shooting 86% in a Casual Corner game.
Three other things feed the complaint:
- Shots fall at a very high rate here. Zach 2K's games had players shooting around 90%, and he hit from half court. The screen says "reduced difficulty," though 2K doesn't print a shot-window setting. Don't judge your jumper or spend Cap Breakers based on these games.
- Plate droppers exist. Players on r/NBA2k say some lose 1v1 games on purpose to fall a tier. We wouldn't. It costs you time, and you still have to climb back.
- Purple and Red plates may be running challenges. They're matched with AI, but you'll see them walking around the station.
One player claims Casual Corner games pad your City record. There's no 2K statement on it, so treat it as a rumor.
Do Casual Corner games count for daily challenges and Crew challenges?
Daily challenges: yes. 2K's daily list often sends you here. Moe Gaming's early access list showed Visit Casual Corner, Play a 3v3 Casual Corner Game, and Get 1 Point, Assist or Rebound in a Casual Corner Game at 500 VC each, plus a 1,000 VC Season Pass bonus for clearing all three. That's 2,500 VC with the bonus, the same figure a PC player quoted in October. Zach 2K got three of four daily challenges tied to the mode. The list rotates, so check yours.
Crew challenges: often no. One player tested a Crew challenge to score 200 threes in the Park. The threes from a Casual Corner game did not count. That's one test on one challenge, so check your progress bar after a single game before asking your Crew to grind it.
2X REP: usually, but read the event. 2K's Season 1 Courtside Report lists Casual Corner among the 2XREP modes, with The REC, The Theater, Ante-Up, Proving Grounds and Crew Divisions. Apparel events are narrower. The 2X REP schedule has the dates, including Amex on November 7-8 and Thanksgiving on November 26-27. Double 0% is still 0%, so 2X REP won't help a Purple or Red plate here.
Daily Rivals: unclear. A finished MyCAREER game qualifies you for the next day's board, per 2K Support. One player reports using Casual Corner for Daily Rivals, but 2K publishes no point table. See our Daily Rivals guide.
Why can't I find a Casual Corner game?
The real-player tiers are the problem. Silver and Gold need other people in the queue, so low-population platforms struggle. A PC player said in October that they couldn't find one game at Baller level and lost all three daily challenges. A Switch 2 player reported empty queues in September. Another reply called Silver "a ghost town."
Try these in order:
- Queue the other format. If 3v3 stalls, try 5v5.
- Bring friends. Squads fill spots you'd otherwise wait on.
- Try peak hours. Evenings on your platform's main region have the most players.
- Use a friend's plate. See the next section. It's a workaround with a cost.
A Purple player reported that bot games still counted for the daily challenge, which fits how the board describes those tiers.
How does squad matchmaking work in Casual Corner?
The last line of the board matters most if you play with friends: "Squads: based off highest teammate Overall Performance."
So your squad queues at your best friend's plate. If a Red plate joins two Bronze players, our reading is that the whole group gets a Red game: max-rated AI and no earnings. The board doesn't spell out the earnings part, and we couldn't find a test. Before a long session, play one game and check your rewards screen.
If the rewards do follow the highest plate, this trap is easy to hit: a new player gets carried in by an older friend, then wonders why the badge bar didn't move.
How do you rank up your plate?
2K doesn't publish the formula. What we know:
- New players start at Black. Double H's new account reached Bronze within a few games.
- Returning 2K26 players keep their highest tier. 2K says it "carries over on day one." That caught one player who built a first-time point guard and landed in Red REC games, with a plate from last year.
- New builds don't reset you. Players report the plate follows the account, so a 60 overall alt won't take you back to Black. Double H used a new account for his test.
- Your ring is in the menus. The intro screen shows "Overall Performance Progress" as a ring divided into the tiers, and the color appears on your banner.
If you're learning a new position on a high plate, Casual Corner won't help much. Purple and Red only get AI. The Theater 1v1 or Rec matchmaking advice here is a better use of your time.
Should you play Casual Corner?
| Your situation | Verdict |
|---|---|
| New to 2K, Black or Bronze | Yes. Play until you've found your jumper and handles |
| Silver, want REP and badges | Yes, if your queue fills. Full rate, real games |
| Gold | Fine for daily challenges and quick games. REP, MyPOINTS and badges pay 75% |
| Purple or Red | Daily challenges only, then leave |
| Testing a jumper | No. The results won't carry to The REC |
| Grinding REP or badges | Best at Silver or below. See how to rank up REP fast |

FAQ
Where is Casual Corner in NBA 2K27? In The City, northwest of The Park and next to the Tattoo Envy store. Select it from the list on the map to set a waypoint, then take the Casual Corner Station stairs.
Is Casual Corner all AI? Only for Black plates and for Purple and Red plates. Bronze is a mix. Silver and Gold are real players, with bots reported as fill-ins when the queue is short.
Do you get REP in Casual Corner? Yes, at Black, Bronze and Silver at the full rate. Gold earns 75%. Purple and Red earn 0%.
Do you get badge progression in Casual Corner? Yes, on the same scale. If your bar shows 0%, you're probably Purple or Red. A squadmate on those plates may also be the cause, though 2K doesn't confirm it.
Why is every shot going in? The in-game panel says these games have "reduced difficulty," and players report shooting 80% to 90%. Don't use those numbers to judge a jumper or a build.
Can you play Casual Corner with friends? Yes. 2K encourages it. The squad matches on its highest plate, so one Red friend can change the game you get.
Is Casual Corner in NBA 2K26? No. It's new in NBA 2K27. It replaced the Casual-only courts in The Theater and Park.
