Palworld Best Breeding Combos (1.0): Every Combo That Still Works After the Update

Palworld Breeding Farm with parent Pals and eggs, used for breeding combos in the 1.0 update

Breeding is the single biggest power lever in Palworld 1.0 — it lets you hatch endgame base workers and combat Pals long before you could ever catch them in the wild, and it is the only route to mutation Pals, elemental variants, and locked-in passive skills. The problem: Pocketpair reviewed and rewrote the breeding tables when 1.0 shipped on July 10, 2026, so most "best breeding combos" guides still floating around are for the January-2024 early-access game and now hand you the wrong Pal. This guide gives you the combos that are actually correct in 1.0 (build v1.0.5) — the deterministic special combos that can't be guessed, the best recipes for the Pals worth breeding first, and the exact math the game uses so you can solve any combo yourself.

Quick answer: Most Palworld offspring are decided by a hidden Breeding Power Value average of the two parents, so there are 19,044 possible breeding combos and no single "best" list. What matters is the ~32 unique special combos that ignore the formula (the only way to breed elemental variants and five rare Pals), plus the best recipes for high-value workers. ⚠️ The 1.0 update also killed the most famous shortcut: Penking + Bushi no longer makes Anubis — it now makes Sibelyx. Anubis (Handiwork/Mining Lv.6) still has 234 valid parent pairs, just no single iconic one, so you now pick the route you can build from your own Palbox. Legendaries — Jetragon, Frostallion, Necromus, Paladius — are genderless and can only be bred from two of the same species.

This post applies to Palworld 1.0, build v1.0.5 (the current live build as of October 2026). If you'd rather skip the grind and have a cap-ready account to breed on, our Palworld leveling service gets you there fast.

How does breeding work in Palworld 1.0?

To breed, you need a Breeding Farm (unlocked at player Level 19, crafted from 100 Wood, 20 Stone, and 50 Fiber), one male Pal, one female Pal, and a Cake placed in the farm's feed box. Assign both parents to the farm, keep a Cake stocked, and an egg appears on its own. Drop the egg into an Egg Incubator to hatch the child.

Collecting a Pal egg in Palworld, the egg produced by a Breeding Farm before incubation

The species of that child is not random. Every Pal has a hidden Breeding Power Value (BPV) — a number that the game averages to pick the offspring. As Rock Paper Shotgun's 1.0 breeding breakdown puts it:

"Once you understand the simple formula that is used behind the scenes, you'll see that no matter how many times you breed a specific pair of Pals, you'll always end up with the same species of offspring."

The formula is:

Child BPV = FLOOR((Male Parent BPV + Female Parent BPV + 1) / 2)

The game then picks the Pal whose BPV is closest to that result (ties broken by a hidden tie-break order). Because of this averaging, the same pair always produces the same child — breeding is a science, not a gamble. The practical takeaway: you don't memorize thousands of combos, you look up the two or three best recipes for the Pal you want.

Why do old Palworld breeding combos give the wrong Pal?

Because the 1.0 update added 72 new Pals (47 new + 25 variants, pushing the Paldeck to 287) and re-slotted the BPV table around them. When new Pals land in the middle of the value range, the average of an old pair now lands on a different nearest Pal. That is why a recipe that worked for two years can suddenly hatch something else entirely — the parents didn't change, but the Pal sitting at that averaged value did.

So the rule for 1.0 is simple: never trust a breeding chart that isn't explicitly updated for the 1.0 release. Use a live, 1.0-updated breeding calculator (game8's Breeding Calculator 1.0 or Rock Paper Shotgun's) and filter it against the Pals you actually own. The combos in this guide are drawn from those 1.0-current sources.

What are the unique breeding combos in Palworld 1.0?

These are the combos worth memorizing. Unique (special) combos ignore the BPV formula — they are the only way to produce these Pals, so there's no averaging to get wrong. Most create elemental variants (the Ignis / Noct / Cryst / Lux / Terra / Aqua suffixes); a handful create rare Pals. Here is the full 1.0 list:

And the five same-species-only Pals — the rarest in the game, bred by combining two of the exact same species:

  • Frostallion = Frostallion + Frostallion
  • Jetragon = Jetragon + Jetragon
  • Jormuntide Ignis = Jormuntide Ignis + Jormuntide Ignis
  • Necromus = Necromus + Necromus
  • Paladius = Paladius + Paladius

Note that Jetragon, Frostallion, Necromus and Paladius are legendaries with no gender — you cannot pair them with anything else, and you need two wild-caught copies to breed a third. (Elemental variants like Katress Ignis also use gender-specific pairs: Katress female + Wixen male gives Katress Ignis, while the reverse gives Wixen Noct — so if you get the wrong variant, swap the parents' genders.)

What are the best breeding combos for the Pals worth breeding first?

Below are the highest-value targets. Some are unique combos (guaranteed — breed the exact pair, get the exact Pal); others are averaged combos with hundreds of valid pairs, where the smart move is to confirm against a 1.0 calculator with your own Palbox before you commit a Cake.

How to breed Anubis (the one everyone wants)

Anubis, the top Handiwork and Mining base Pal and the most-wanted breeding target in Palworld 1.0

Anubis is still the best all-round base worker you can breed — Handiwork Lv.6, Mining Lv.6, Transporting Lv.4, with a huge run speed that makes it a monster at hauling and crafting. It's a wild Alpha fight in the Desiccated Desert, but breeding lets you stack a whole Anubis army.

⚠️ Here's the single most important 1.0 change: Penking + Bushi does NOT make Anubis anymore. That was the famous Early Access recipe, and it's the first thing every outdated guide (and most AI answers) still tells you. In 1.0, Penking + Bushi hatches Sibelyx instead — players report getting three Sibelyx eggs in a row trying the old combo. Pocketpair reshuffled the breeding table, and this is the textbook casualty.

The honest 1.0 reality: Anubis has 234 valid parent pairs and no single iconic one. The right move is to pick a pair you can actually build from your own Palbox. Verified-working 1.0 routes include:

  • Blazamut + Astegon
  • Shadowbeak + Selyne
  • Jormuntide + Whalaska Ignis
  • Elgrove Cryst + Astegon
  • Faleris + Xenolord

These are examples, not a ranking — a "convenient" pair is slow if you have to catch both parents first. Load Anubis into a live 1.0 breeding calculator, filter the parent list against the Pals already in your box, and breed the shortest route. Never spend a Cake on a pre-1.0 recipe without checking it first. And here's the 1.0 kicker: once you have Anubis, the new Pal Sekhmet (the "Desert Empress," added in 1.0) stationed in the same base buffs every Anubis's work speed — so build your Anubis line, then catch a Sekhmet to supercharge the whole handiwork operation.

How to breed Jetragon and the legendary mounts

There is no shortcut here. Jetragon = Jetragon + Jetragon, and the same is true for Frostallion, Necromus, and Paladius. You must catch two copies in the wild first. In 1.0, Jetragon relocated — it now spawns as a Level 70 Legendary Alpha in Sunreach, not at Mount Obsidian. If you want a full capture walkthrough, see our how to get Jetragon guide. Breeding a third copy is mostly for passive-skill farming (see below), since you can only run one on your team at a time.

How to breed top combat and work Pals

The three most valuable are all unique combos, so they're guaranteed no matter the BPV math — breed these exact pairs and you cannot get the wrong result:

  • Orserk (Generating Electricity Lv.8, top electric worker + combat): Grizzbolt + Relaxaurus.
  • Shadowbeak (top-tier Dark combat flyer): Astegon + Kitsun.
  • Lyleen (Medicine Production / combat): Mossanda + Petallia.

Other strong targets like Blazehowl (Kindling + combat) and Beakon (Electric combat) are averaged combos, not unique ones — each has 200+ valid parent pairs in 1.0 and no single iconic recipe, so plug the target into a live 1.0 calculator and pick the pair you can build from your own box. How do you breed for passive skills and mutations?

Breeding isn't just about species — it's how you build a perfect Pal. A child can inherit a mix of its parents' passive skills, and Pals cap at 4 passives each.

  • Set the passives you want as the parents' active skills before breeding — this makes the child far more likely to inherit them.
  • Use the Special Cake (Technology Lv.74) to make multi-passive pass-down reliable; it's the most expensive Cake in the game but the only one that consistently stacks several passives onto one child.
  • Priority combat passives to breed toward: Legend (+20% Atk/Def, +15% Move Speed), Ferocious (+20% Atk), and Lucky (+15% Atk/Def, +20% Work Speed).

Mutation is the other 1.0-exclusive payoff. Every hatch has a small base chance (community-datamined around 1%) to produce a mutated egg — a Pal that is always an Alpha, rolls a 90–100 IV floor, hatches pre-condensed at 2 stars, and carries 2–4 rare "rainbow" passives. The Extravagant Vegetable Cake (Technology Lv.60) raises that chance to roughly 3% per egg. For the full breakdown of mutation mechanics and which rainbow passives to chase, see our dedicated Palworld mutation guide, and pair this with the right breeding cake for your goal.

Does breeding help you level up faster?

Indirectly, yes — and it matters more than most players realize. Stronger bred Pals clear tower bosses and Alphas faster, and capturing (not killing) those bosses feeds condensing and pays big XP. A base stacked with bred Anubis-tier workers also runs the passive arrow-crafting XP line that pays experience to you and your whole party around the clock.

But breeding itself is a time investment — hatching, condensing, and building out a passive-perfect team is dozens of hours on top of the campaign, and the cap now sits at Level 80 with the World Tree gated behind Lv.75+ content. If you want the endgame team without the endgame grind, that's exactly what our Palworld leveling boost handles — we get your account to cap so your bred Pals actually have a trainer who can keep up.

Breed smarter, not longer. Skip the grind and jump straight to the fun part of building a perfect team:

FAQ

Can you breed any two Pals together in Palworld? Yes. The parents do not need to be the same species or the same type — a tiny Lamball can breed with a giant Relaxaurus. The only requirement is one male and one female (plus a Cake). The child's species is decided by the parents' averaged Breeding Power Value, so any valid male/female pair will produce something.

What is the best breeding combo for Anubis in 1.0? There isn't one iconic recipe anymore — the old Penking + Bushi combo now makes Sibelyx, not Anubis. In 1.0 Anubis has 234 valid parent pairs, so the best combo is whichever one you can build from Pals you already own. Verified working routes include Blazamut + Astegon, Shadowbeak + Selyne, and Jormuntide + Whalaska Ignis. Always confirm on a 1.0-updated calculator before spending a Cake, because the Paldeck shuffle changed many averaged results.

Why do I keep getting the wrong Pal from a breeding combo? Almost always because the recipe is from before the July 10, 2026 1.0 update. Pocketpair rebalanced the breeding tables when it added 72 new Pals, so old averaged combos now land on different Pals. Unique (special) combos — the ones in the variant table above — still work exactly as listed because they ignore the formula.

Can you breed legendary Pals like Jetragon and Frostallion? Only from two of the same species. Jetragon, Frostallion, Necromus, and Paladius are genderless legendaries, so you must catch two copies in the wild and pair them — there is no average-breeding shortcut.

How do I breed a Pal with specific passive skills? Set the passives you want as the active skills of both parents before breeding, and use the Special Cake (Technology Lv.74) for reliable multi-passive pass-down. Children inherit from the parents' passive pool, capped at 4 passives, so curate the parents carefully.

What level do you need to start breeding in Palworld? Player Level 19, which unlocks the Breeding Farm (100 Wood, 20 Stone, 50 Fiber). You also need a Cake, which the base recipe unlocks at Level 17 using the Cooking Pot.
