Palworld Xenolord Raid Boss: How to Summon & Beat the 1.3M-HP Dragon (1.0.5)

The Xenolord Dark-Dragon raid boss looming over a player's Summoning Altar base in Palworld's Feybreak update

Most of the "how to beat Xenolord" advice floating around is half-right, and in a ten-minute raid with a 1.3-million-HP boss, half-right gets you wiped at minute nine. The common mistakes: people pack Dragon Pals because Xenolord is part Dragon, they skip the Slab Fragment grind and can't even start the fight, and they treat it like a Tower Boss when it's a base-defense raid that can level your whole camp. This guide fixes all of it — exactly how to assemble the summon, the real type weakness (it's not what the typing suggests), the best Pals to bring, and how to clear the Ultra variant that endgame players say outscales everything else in Palworld.

Quick answer: Xenolord is Palworld's Feybreak-update raid boss — a Level 60 Dark/Dragon Pal with 1,316,000 HP and a 10-minute timer. You summon it by placing a Xenolord's Slab (crafted from 4 Xenolord's Slab Fragments at a High-Quality Workbench) into a Summoning Altar (unlocks Lv.33; costs 100 Stone + 20 Paldium). Slab Fragments drop from Feybreak Island dungeon chests after you clear the dungeon boss, or from the Dark Cave of Feybreak Pal Expedition. Despite being part Dragon, Xenolord does not take the usual Dragon-type weakness damage — it's resistant, so you bring Ice Pals, with Frostallion the single best counter. Fill your party with Gobfins (Angry Shark attack buff) for a mounted-Ice strategy, and stuff your base with high-level Ice Pals (Cryolinx, Quivern, Vanwyrm Cryst) plus Astegon for Dark resistance. Rewards include a Huge Dark Egg that hatches your own Xenolord, an Ultra Xenolord Slab, 3 Ancient Civilization Cores and 10 Ancient Civilization Parts. The Ultra variant is a major step up — players report needing a fully awakened, max-level, max-affection team to clear it.

If the climb to 80 is the part you want to skip, our Palworld leveling service handles it on PC, Xbox and PlayStation, on your own world or a dedicated server.

What is Xenolord in Palworld?

Xenolord is the apex raid boss introduced with the Feybreak Island update, and as of the current 1.0.5 live build (console tag 1.102.999, September 2026) it's still the hardest scripted fight in the game. It is a Dark/Dragon-type Pal that spawns from a raid summon as a Level 60 boss with 1,316,000 HP, and you have 10 minutes to burn that bar to zero. Per IGN's Xenolord raid guide, it "presents perhaps the most challenging fight in the game."

Two things make Xenolord different from everything that came before it. First, it is a raid, not a field catch or a Tower duel — you fight it at your own base, and the battle can physically destroy your structures and base Pals, so where you build matters as much as what you bring. Second, it is the gateway to endgame progression loot: the Huge Dark Egg it drops hatches a rideable Xenolord of your own, and the Ancient Civilization Cores and Parts it rewards feed the top-tier crafting and gear you need for the rest of the 1.0 endgame.

Note the raid timer: raid bosses run a 10-minute clock, which is separate from the 5-minute Tower Boss timer players sometimes conflate it with. They are two different systems — do not plan your DPS around the wrong number.

How do you summon the Xenolord raid?

The Palworld Summoning Altar interface with a Xenolord's Slab ready to begin the raid

Every raid in Palworld starts at a Summoning Altar, and Xenolord is no exception. The recipe unlocks at Level 33 on the Technology menu, and each altar costs 100 Stone + 20 Paldium Fragments — cheap enough that you should expect to rebuild it between attempts, because the fight can wreck it.

The smart move, per IGN, is a dedicated raid base: pick an open, mostly empty area, put the altar there, and station your strongest base Pals to pitch in. Don't summon Xenolord in your main production base unless you want to lose your crafting lines to a stray meteor.

To start the raid you place a Xenolord's Slab into the altar. You don't find the Slab whole — you craft it from four Xenolord's Slab Fragments at a High-Quality Workbench. That Fragment grind is the real gate on this fight, and it's where most players stall.

How to get Xenolord's Slab Fragments

There are two confirmed sources for Xenolord's Slab Fragments, both tied to Feybreak Island:

  • Feybreak dungeon chests. Clear a dungeon on Feybreak Island — defeat or capture the dungeon's Pal boss — and the end-of-dungeon chests have a chance to drop Slab Fragments. This is the primary farm; run dungeons until you've banked four.
  • The Dark Cave of Feybreak Pal Expedition. The new Pal Expeditions system can also award Fragments. The Dark Cave of Feybreak is the hardest expedition — you must defeat Bjorn and Bastigor first to unlock it — and it runs a base duration of one hour with a Recommended Firepower of 476,000. It also requires Dark-type Pals on the expedition team (though not exclusively).

That 476,000 Firepower number trips people up, so to be clear: it's the expedition requirement for sending Pals to farm Fragments, not a stat you need to "beat" to win the raid itself. The raid is decided by your live DPS against the 1.3M HP bar in ten minutes.

What is Xenolord's weakness? (It's not Dragon)

Here's the single most important fact in this guide: Xenolord does not have the usual Dragon-type weakness. Normally in Palworld, Dark-type Pals take extra damage from Dragon attacks — so the instinct is to bring Dragon Pals against a Dark/Dragon boss. That's wrong for Xenolord. Because it is itself part Dragon, it's resistant to Dragon damage. Load up on Dragon Pals and you'll watch your DPS stall out well short of the kill.

The correct answer is Ice. As IGN puts it, "you'll want to load your party and base with your best Ice Pals." Ice is the type that actually chews through Xenolord's health bar inside the timer.

One more mechanic to plan around: Xenolord periodically flies into the air and rains meteors that spawn lesser Xenogards and Xenovaders into the fight. If you ignore the adds they pile up and overwhelm your base defense. Keep some cleave/AoE in the mix, or assign base Pals to mop them up, so your main DPS stays focused on the boss.

What are the best Pals to beat Xenolord?

Frostallion, Palworld's Legendary Ice Pal, the top recommended counter to the Dark-Dragon Xenolord

The meta here is a mounted-Ice build, and the pieces are specific:

  • Frostallion — your main. The Legendary Ice Pal is the best offensive option in the fight. It hits hard with Ice, it can be ridden, and its Ice Steed Partner Skill changes your player attack type to Ice while mounted — so you're adding Ice damage on top of the mount's. If you don't have it yet, our Frostallion catch guide covers the summon and capture.
  • Gobfins — your party stackers. Fill the rest of your active party with Gobfins. Their Angry Shark Partner Skill boosts player attack, and the buff stacks — several Gobfins at once meaningfully raise your mounted Frostallion damage. If any of your Gobfins rolled the Vanguard passive, the player-attack bonus stacks even higher.
  • Base Pals — your backline DPS. Because this is a raid, your base Pals fight too. Stock the raid base with your best high-level Ice Pals: Cryolinx, Quivern, Vanwyrm Cryst, Chillet and similar. Prioritise your highest-level, most-upgraded copies — the ones you've pushed with Pal Souls and the Essence Condenser.
  • Astegon — your damage sponge. Astegon is resistant to Xenolord's Dark-type attacks, which makes it a strong, survivable base defender that won't get deleted by meteors.
  • Jetragon — the universal pick. Jetragon is "always an excellent combat Pal in any circumstance," so even against a Dragon-resistant boss its raw combat stats earn it a slot. See our Jetragon catch guide if you're still chasing it.

If your Ice Pals are under-leveled, this is one of the fights where condensing and awakening actually decide the outcome — a 4-star condensed Frostallion does roughly double the damage of a base one. Our condensing guide walks the whole Pal Essence Condenser loop.

How to beat Xenolord: full strategy

Put it together and the clear looks like this:

  • Build the raid base in an open, empty area. Expect collateral damage; keep nothing you can't afford to lose nearby.
  • Summon with the Slab, then mount Frostallion immediately. You're on a 10-minute clock from the spawn.
  • Ride-and-attack as Ice. With Ice Steed active and a party of Gobfins buffing you, your mounted attacks are your primary DPS. Circle the boss and keep uptime high.
  • Let your base Pals and Astegon tank the backline. They add constant Ice damage and soak the Dark attacks while you focus the boss.
  • Clear the meteor adds. When Xenolord goes airborne and spawns Xenogards/Xenovaders, don't tunnel the boss — thin the adds so they don't overwhelm your defense, then get back on the boss.
  • Burn the bar before 10:00. 1,316,000 HP is a real DPS check. If you're timing out, the fix is almost always more upgraded Ice Pals, not a different type.

How hard is Ultra Xenolord?

Beating normal Xenolord unlocks the Ultra Xenolord Slab (it's in the reward table), and the Ultra variant is a serious step up. Endgame players on r/Palworld are blunt about the gap. One player who cleared it reported doing so with "the army I used on hard mode [Astralym] — they were max level, awakened, max affection, etc." — in other words, a fully maxed roster, not a casual team. Another summed up the requirement for the normal-versus-Ultra question simply: "Normal Xenolord, yes. Ultra Xenolord, you need more than that."

The practical read: clear normal Xenolord with the Ice/Gobfin/Frostallion plan above, use the loot and the egg to push your roster, and only attempt Ultra once your team is condensed, awakened and affection-maxed. If you're still building toward Astralym hard mode, that same team is roughly the bar you need for Ultra Xenolord.

Xenolord raid rewards

A successful normal Xenolord clear drops:

RewardWhy it matters
1 Huge Dark Egg (contains Xenolord)Hatch and ride your own Xenolord
1 Xenolord (Ultra) SlabUnlocks the harder Ultra raid
3 Ancient Civilization CoreTop-tier endgame crafting material
10 Ancient Civilization PartsCore endgame crafting (farm guide)
1 Power FruitPermanent stat boost for a Pal
1 Life Lotus (S)High-end consumable
1 Training CrystalAwakening material
1 RubyTrade/craft currency

The Huge Dark Egg is the headline: hatching it gives you a Xenolord you can level and ride, turning the raid into both a loot source and a roster upgrade. The Ancient Civilization Cores and Parts are what you'll actually chase on repeat clears, since they gate the best endgame gear.

FAQ

What is Xenolord's weakness in Palworld? Ice. Even though Xenolord is a Dark/Dragon-type, it does not take the normal Dragon-type weakness damage — it's resistant to Dragon attacks because it's part Dragon itself. Bring your best Ice Pals, led by Frostallion.

How much HP does Xenolord have? Xenolord spawns as a Level 60 raid boss with 1,316,000 HP, and you have a 10-minute timer to defeat it. It's a hard DPS check — timing out usually means you need more upgraded Ice Pals, not a different strategy.

How do you summon Xenolord? Place a Xenolord's Slab into a Summoning Altar (unlocks at Level 33; costs 100 Stone + 20 Paldium Fragments). You craft the Slab from 4 Xenolord's Slab Fragments at a High-Quality Workbench.

Where do you get Xenolord's Slab Fragments? From Feybreak Island dungeon chests (after clearing the dungeon boss) and from the Dark Cave of Feybreak Pal Expedition (the hardest expedition, unlocked after beating Bjorn and Bastigor). You need four Fragments per Slab.

What are the best Pals for the Xenolord fight? Frostallion as your mounted main (its Ice Steed skill makes your attacks Ice), a party of Gobfins to stack the Angry Shark attack buff, Astegon for Dark resistance, and high-level base Ice Pals like Cryolinx, Quivern and Vanwyrm Cryst. Jetragon works too for raw combat stats.

Is Ultra Xenolord harder than normal? Significantly. Beating normal Xenolord unlocks the Ultra Slab, but players report needing a fully max-level, awakened, max-affection team — the same roster used for Astralym hard mode — to clear Ultra.

Can you get your own Xenolord? Yes. The normal raid drops a Huge Dark Egg that hatches a Xenolord, which you can then level and ride.

The bottom line

Xenolord rewards preparation and punishes guesswork. Grind four Slab Fragments on Feybreak, build a throwaway raid base in open ground, and bring Ice, not Dragon — a mounted Frostallion buffed by a party of Gobfins, backed by upgraded Ice base Pals and an Astegon to soak the Dark hits. Clear the meteor adds so they don't swarm you, and race the 1.3M-HP bar inside ten minutes. Do that and you walk away with a rideable Xenolord and the Ancient Civilization loot that powers the rest of the endgame — then start building the maxed, awakened roster that Ultra Xenolord demands.

Want the Xenolord clear and a Level 80 endgame roster without the Slab-Fragment grind? Timesaver's Palworld boosters run the Feybreak farms, the raid, and the condensing loops for you — so you get the egg, the loot and a party that's actually ready for the Ultra fight.
