Palworld Best Combat Pals (1.0): Battle Tier List for Bosses & PvP

The best combat Pals in Palworld 1.0 are the legendaries — Jetragon for all-round DPS and flight, Frostallion as the Ice-type dragon-killer, Bellanoir Libero and Xenolord for raids, and Necromus and Paladius as ground bruisers — but the winner of any given fight is whichever Pal brings the right element counter and a stacked set of combat passives. The July 10, 2026 full release added 72 new Pals (a Paldeck of 287) and reworked the Partner Skills of over 200 of them, so every combat tier list written before then is out of date. This guide is the current version: the S/A/B combat tiers, the exact passive stack top players run, and which Pal to bring to each boss.

Everything here is checked against the live build, 1.0.3 (console tag 1.101.283, released August 12, 2026), and Pocketpair's official patch notes.

Quick answer: For open-world combat and mobility, Jetragon is the best all-round combat Pal in Palworld 1.0 — fastest flight plus homing-missile damage. For raids and the World Tree endgame, an Awakened Bellanoir Libero or Xenolord does more boss damage, while Frostallion hard-counters Dragon enemies. But no single Pal is "best" everywhere: tower bosses and raids reward the correct elemental counter, and the typeless final bosses reward raw Attack. Whatever you ride, stack four combat passives — Legend, Demon God, Serenity and Immortality is the safe boss build — and 4-star condense it (now just 48 duplicates, down from 116).

If the climb to 80 is the part you want to skip, our Palworld leveling service handles it on PC, Xbox and PlayStation, on your own world or a dedicated server.

Key takeaways

  • The 1.0 rework staled every old list. Pocketpair reworked the Partner Skills of 200+ Pals and added 72 new ones, so any combat tier list from before July 2026 is wrong.
  • Jetragon is the default best combat Pal — top DPS, fastest mount, and (as of the 1.0.3 patch) its saddle now unlocks at Level 70 instead of 79.
  • Elemental counters beat raw power in tower and raid fights. Bring the type the boss is weak to, not just your biggest Pal.
  • Passives matter as much as the Pal. A four-passive attacker build (Legend + Demon God + Serenity + Immortality) is worth a full tier by itself.
  • Condensing is cheap now. A 4-star Pal costs 48 duplicates (down from 116) and adds +20% to HP, Attack and Defense — the expected baseline for any serious raid or PvP Pal.
  • Combat and leveling feed each other: the faster you can clear bosses, the faster you hit the level 80 cap — which is exactly what our Palworld leveling guide is built around.

What makes a combat Pal good in Palworld 1.0?

Four things decide how hard a Pal hits, and only one of them is the Pal itself.

Element. Palworld uses nine damage types — Neutral, Fire, Water, Grass, Electric, Ice, Ground, Dark and Dragon — and every boss has a weakness. A correctly-typed A-tier Pal will out-damage a mistyped legendary, which is why the tiers below are a starting point, not a fixed ranking.

Partner Skill. This is the Pal's unique combat ability while it fights alongside you or serves as your mount. The 1.0 update is important here because, in Pocketpair's own words, "We've added new Partner Skills and reworked the Partner Skills of over 200 Pals." Mounts like Frostallion Noct and Shadowbeak convert your mounted attacks to their element, which is what makes them situational stars.

Passive skills. A Pal holds up to four passives, and passives that boost the same stat stack together. The right four are worth roughly a full tier of raw stats — see the passives section below.

IVs and condensing. Individual Values are a bonus of up to +30% locked in when you catch or hatch a Pal, and 4-star condensing adds another +20%. A maxed combat Pal is running base stats plus up to +50% before passives even apply.

B tier — situational and support

Astegon (Dragon/Dark) is a natural anti-Dark tank that resists Bellanoir's attacks — rank it higher if you value survivability over damage. Blazamut is a sturdy Fire bruiser, and Anubis, Faleris and Grizzbolt remain solid mid-game fighters you can field long before the legendaries.

A note on the endgame: Zenara & Astralym are the typeless Level 80 final bosses in the World Tree Sealed Sanctum — they are enemies, not Pals you can use. Against typeless bosses, flat-Attack passive stacking beats elemental teams.

The best combat passive skills in Palworld 1.0

The Palworld Pal Stats panel showing a Pal's Partner Skill, Active Skills, Passive Skills and Attack/Defense stats

Passives are the single biggest lever on a Pal's damage. A Pal can carry four, and same-stat passives stack, so the goal is four attack-or-survival passives that don't waste a slot. These effects are current for 1.0 (source: KeenGamer's 1.0 passives guide; Musclehead values via palworld.wiki.gg / Game8):

PassiveEffectNotes
LegendAttack +20%, Defense +20%, Move Speed +20%The "legendary" passive; comes on legendary Pals.
MuscleheadAttack +30%, Work Speed −50%Highest single-passive Attack boost; combat-only. From an Implant (30 Bounty Tokens), not breeding.
Demon GodAttack +30%, Defense +5%Strong universal damage with no real downside.
FerociousAttack +20%Common, easy to farm from wild Pals.
SerenityActive Skill cooldown −30%, Attack +10%Faster skill rotations; the PvP-arena staple.
ImmortalityAttack +15%, HP regen +100%, Life Steal +5%Mutation-only; the best all-purpose survivability passive.
Diamond BodyDefense +30%, immune to Flinch & KnockbackRaid-tank cornerstone.
Twin-Edged Holy BladeAttack +50%, Defense −30%New 1.0 World Tree passive; glass-cannon.
God of DestructionAttack +40%, Defense +20%, max HP −50%New 1.0 World Tree passive; extreme burst, fragile.

The builds that actually win fights:

  • Balanced boss carry (recommended): Legend + Demon God + Serenity + Immortality. Big damage, faster skills, and enough sustain to survive a five-minute tower timer.
  • Maximum damage (controlled fights): Twin-Edged Holy Blade + God of Destruction + Demon God + Serenity. Melts bosses, but the defensive penalties make it unreliable in long raids with unavoidable damage.
  • Raid tank: Immortality + Diamond Body + Legend + Serenity. For drawn-out encounters where staying alive matters more than a quick kill.

How do you power up a combat Pal?

Once you have the right Pal and passives, two systems push it over the top.

Condensing. Feed duplicate Pals into the Pal Essence Condenser to raise a Pal's star rank. Each star adds +5% to max HP, Attack and Defense, and a full 4-star build is +20%. The big 1.0 change: "Reduced the number of Pals required to reach the maximum rank (from 116 total to 48)." Maxing a combat Pal used to be a lifetime grind; at 48 duplicates it's a realistic weekend project.

IVs. Individual Values are rolled at capture or hatch and grant up to +30% to HP, Attack and Defense. For a top PvP or raid Pal, breed for high IVs first, then condense — capturing a fresh Alpha and checking it with the IV glasses is the standard first step.

Stacked together, a maxed attacker runs base stats +20% (condense) + up to 30% (IVs) + its passive percentages. That is the gap between a legendary that struggles at a tower and one that clears it inside the five-minute timer.

Which combat Pal should you bring to each boss?

The short version: match the type. Palworld's nine tower bosses each have a clear elemental weakness, and bringing the counter matters more than bringing your favorite legendary — especially since 1.0 cut the tower timer from ten minutes to five.

  • Dragon-type bosses (and Jetragon in PvP): bring Frostallion or any strong Ice attacker.
  • Neutral-phase and typeless bosses (the World Tree finale): raw Attack wins — a Musclehead mount or Frostallion Noct for Dark conversion.
  • Water-type bosses: Orserk or another Electric hitter.
  • The Panthalus questline that gates the World Tree is the exception — you want to capture it, not out-damage it, so bring capture power rather than a full attack team (full walkthrough in our Panthalus guide).

If you'd rather skip the grind for legendaries, high IVs and a maxed condense entirely, that's what our boosting service is for:

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best combat Pal in Palworld 1.0? Jetragon is the best all-round combat Pal — it has the highest general DPS and the fastest flight in the game, and after the 1.0.3 patch its saddle unlocks at Level 70. For raids and the typeless World Tree final boss, a fully-Awakened Bellanoir Libero or Xenolord does more single-target damage, and Frostallion is the go-to counter against Dragon-type enemies.

What is the best non-legendary combat Pal? Jormuntide Ignis. It hits hard as a Fire attacker and you can catch it in the overworld without farming raid eggs or breeding, which makes it the strongest Pal you can realistically field before the endgame.

What are the best combat passive skills? The safe boss build is Legend, Demon God, Serenity and Immortality — attack, cooldown reduction and sustain. For pure burst in controlled fights, swap to Twin-Edged Holy Blade and God of Destruction (both new World Tree passives), but their defense and HP penalties make them risky in long raids. A Pal can hold four passives and same-stat passives stack.

Does condensing make my Pal stronger for combat? Yes. Each star adds +5% to HP, Attack and Defense, so a 4-star Pal is +20% across the board. In 1.0 it only takes 48 duplicate Pals to reach 4 stars (down from 116), so it's the cheapest big power spike available and the expected baseline for raid and PvP Pals.

Do I need legendaries to beat the tower bosses? No. Type advantage beats raw power — a correctly-typed A-tier Pal with good passives will out-perform a mistyped legendary, and the tower fights now have a five-minute timer, so bringing the right elemental counter is what gets you a clear.

Is Jetragon still the best after the 1.0.3 update? Yes. The August 12, 2026 (1.0.3) patch actually improved it by moving its riding saddle from Level 79 to Level 70 — the same level you find Jetragon in the wild — so you can put the game's best combat mount to work much earlier than before.
