Palworld Hard Mode Tower Bosses: How to Unlock and Beat All 9

Hard Mode tower bosses in Palworld 1.0 are a gear-and-build check, not a new puzzle — the fights are the same nine towers you already cleared, re-scaled to Level 72–100, on the same 5-minute timer, with much higher HP and damage. The single thing most players get wrong is the unlock: in 1.0 you do not need to beat every tower first. Hard Mode turns on the moment you defeat Auri & Shaolong at the Azure Covenant Tower in Sunreach on normal difficulty — then you pick "Hard" at the entrance of any tower you've already beaten. Older guides telling you to grind "six faction leaders" are describing Early Access and are wrong for the current build.

This guide covers the exact unlock gate, every boss's Hard level and elemental counter, the stat-and-passive floor your Pals need, and the loot each tower pays out (including the Beam Launcher and Lightweight Ancient Armor schematics). If you still need the normal-mode route first, start with our full Palworld tower bosses guide. Everything is verified against the live build, Palworld 1.0.5 (`1.102.999`). If your Pals aren't ready for a Level-80 damage race yet, our Palworld leveling and power guide is the fastest way to close that gap — and the quickest route past the Hard wall is a Palworld leveling boost.

If the climb to 80 is the part you want to skip, our Palworld leveling service handles it on PC, Xbox and PlayStation, on your own world or a dedicated server.

Quick answer: how to unlock and beat Hard Mode tower bosses

  • Unlock: Beat Auri & Shaolong (Azure Covenant Tower, Sunreach) on normal difficulty. Hard Mode then unlocks for every tower you've already cleared — select it at the tower entrance. This is separate from the save-wide "Hard" world setting.
  • Levels: Hard fights run Level 72 → 100 (Zoe & Grizzbolt 72, scaling up to the Level-80 bosses, with Zenara & Astralym at ~100).
  • Timer: Still 5 minutes. Time out and you're ejected — but you can re-enter and retry as often as you like.
  • What you need: Level-80 Pals that are 4-star condensed, Awakened, maxed on Pal Souls and Trust, running damage/survival passives (Diamond Body, Serenity, Musclehead/Demon God), plus Ancient-tier armor and a high-DPS weapon. Bring the correct elemental counter for each tower.
  • Reward: Every Hard clear guarantees a faction hat + a Training Crystal + a Tower Key Sphere, with a 10% shot at a Tier-4 schematic (Beam Launcher, Plasma Rifle, Lightweight/Heat/Cold-Resistant Ancient Armor) and a permanent Hard expedition unlock.

How do you unlock Hard Mode tower bosses in Palworld?

In the 1.0 release, Pocketpair simplified the unlock. You clear the main tower route like normal, and when you defeat Auri & Shaolong at the Azure Covenant Tower in Sunreach — the last tower on the normal story path — Hard Mode becomes available. From then on, walk up to any tower you've already beaten, interact with the entrance, and you'll get the option to challenge it on Hard instead of normal.

Two things trip people up:

  • You do not have to beat Zenara & Astralym (the World Tree final boss) first. Clearing Auri & Shaolong is the gate. Zenara's own Hard version is a separate rematch once you've beaten it on normal.
  • Hard Mode (the tower rematch) is not the same as the "Hard" world difficulty setting. The world setting multiplies damage and resources across your entire save; the tower Hard Mode is a per-tower rematch with its own loot table. If a guide conflates the two, it's out of date.

If you still see only "Normal" at a tower entrance, you haven't cleared Auri & Shaolong yet — go finish Sunreach.

Every Hard Mode tower boss: levels and elemental counters

All nine towers can be re-challenged on Hard. Levels below come from the current 1.0 game data; note the official wiki's tower table still shows Early Access numbers for a few of them, so trust the in-game level readout over any pre-July-2026 chart.

The first eight are standard element-vs-element: bring the type the boss is weak to, dodge the telegraphed slam/beam, and burn it inside the 5-minute window. Zenara & Astralym is the exception — it's typeless, resists nothing, and cycles multiple elements itself, so counter-picking does nothing. That fight is a pure gear-and-DPS check with roughly 5 million HP on Hard; we cover it in depth in our Zenara & Astralym Hard Mode walkthrough.

Why your Early Access build gets wiped (and how to fix it)

The most common post on r/Palworld right now is some version of "I lost the first time and figured the meta was way different." It is. Every number that mattered for tower bosses changed at 1.0, so a build carried over from Early Access folds instantly in Hard Mode. If a guide tells you the level cap is 65, the capture bonus is 12 catches, or that condensing a Pal to max costs 116 duplicates, it's stale — the real figures are cap 80, capture bonus 5, condensing 48.

To survive a Level-80 Hard fight, your combat Pal needs the full modern stack:

  • Condensing to 4 stars — +20% HP/Atk/Def and up to +5 Partner Skill. Max rank now costs 48 Pals total (1 keeper + 47 fodder), down from 116 in EA.
  • Pal Souls at the Statue of Power — +3% per rank across 20 ranks = +60% to HP, Attack, Defense or Work Speed (52 souls per stat).
  • Stat Fruits — Life/Power/Stout Fruit each add +10 to a stat up to a cap of 100. IVs are no longer locked at capture in 1.0, so you can fix a bad roll — 10 fruits maxes one stat.
  • Trust to rank 10 and Awakening (×1.1 HP/Atk/Def, a one-time World Tree upgrade using 50 Radiant Gems of one element).
  • The right passives (max 4 per Pal). For a damage carry: Musclehead (+30% Atk) or Demon God (+30% Atk/+5% Def), Serenity (−30% skill cooldown/+10% Atk), and a survival line like Diamond Body (+30% Def). Legend (+20% Atk/+20% Def/+15% move speed) is the gold standard but can only come from breeding or a natural legendary — it can't be implanted.

Note the passive source: the mutation-only "rainbow" passives like Legend come from breeding (set them as the parents' active skills and use the Special Cake, Technology Lv.74, for a reliable pass-down) or from catching a Pal that already spawned with them. Tier 1–3 passives can be added at the Pal Surgery Table using Implants bought from the Bounty Officer (Bounty Tokens) or the Arena merchant (Battle Tickets). As one player put it: "It's not too hard to get the implants for the passives when grinding the World Tree."

Two proven Hard Mode team archetypes

There are two ways the community actually clears these, and both are valid — pick the one that matches your gear.

1. The "you do the damage" bow build. Equip the Mechanical Bow (or a Beam/Plasma weapon), stack every party Pal with an Attack-boosting partner skill, aim at the trainer (the human), and delete them before the Pal phase matters. One player summed it up: "I struggled until I got the Mechanical Bow. Aim at the trainer and do over a thousand damage per shot." Gobfins are the staple here — their Attack-buff partner skill stacks, so a party of them multiplies your weapon damage.

2. The "your Pal does the damage" carry build. Put a single monster carry on the field and let its abilities do the work while you survive. The repeated recommendation is Bellanoir Libero running Diamond Body + Immortality + Serenity (plus a damage passive). "Basically EVERY Pal that you are using as a combat Pal should be running Immortality," one endgame player advised — the survivability it adds keeps your carry's channel from being interrupted mid-cast. Orserk (highest base Generating Electricity, Meteorain/Polykeraunos attacks) and a maxed Jetragon mount are the other common picks for raw damage.

Either way, bring food buffs, the full accessory set that matches your team's synergy, and a few healing potions — a Hard clear is a stat race against a 5-minute clock, and small percentage buffs decide it.

What do Hard Mode tower bosses drop?

This is the reason to grind them. Every Hard clear is guaranteed to pay out, and the rare schematics are the real prize.

Guaranteed on every Hard tower clear:

  • The boss's faction hat cosmetic (Zoe Hat through Zenara Hat).
  • A Training Crystal (+1 Pal level).
  • Another Tower Key Sphere.
  • A permanent unlock of that tower's Hard Pal Expedition.

Chance drops (Tier-4 schematic, ~10% each unless noted):

BossTier-4 schematic
Zoe & GrizzboltBeam Scatter
Lily & LyleenDrone Launcher
Axel & OrserkHeat-Resistant Ancient Armor
Marcus & FalerisHeat- or Cold-Resistant Ancient Armor (5% each)
Victor & ShadowbeakCold-Resistant Ancient Armor
Saya & SelynePlasma Rifle
Bjorn & BastigorLightweight Ancient Armor
Auri & ShaolongBeam Launcher

Several bosses also have a chance to drop their matching Lotus (around 20% for the first five towers, 5–6% for the later ones). Zenara & Astralym on Hard is the exception to the schematic table — it drops the Zenara Hat and the Psycho Gravity skill fruit, the best Dark attack in the game.

The Hard expeditions you unlock are no joke either: they require 1,600,000 firepower (2,100,000 for the World Tree expedition) and 20 Pals of a single element, so the schematics you farm here feed directly into being able to run them.

The fastest way past the Hard Mode wall

Hard Mode is gated by build quality, not cleverness — which means the bottleneck is always the grind to get a Level-80 roster condensed, souled, Awakened, and loaded with the right passives. That's exactly the work our team does for players who'd rather skip it: a Palworld leveling boost gets you a cap-ready account and endgame-viable Pals without the dozens of hours of fodder-breeding, soul-farming, and Radiant Gem runs. Browse all our Palworld services if you want help with a specific tower or the final boss.

FAQ

How do you unlock Hard Mode tower bosses in Palworld? Beat Auri & Shaolong at the Azure Covenant Tower in Sunreach on normal difficulty. Hard Mode then becomes available at every tower you've already cleared — just pick "Hard" at the tower entrance. You do not need to beat all nine towers or the final boss first, and this is a different system from the save-wide "Hard" world setting.

What level are the Hard Mode tower bosses? They scale from Level 72 (Zoe & Grizzbolt) up through Level 80 for most of the mid-to-late towers, with Zenara & Astralym at roughly Level 100 on Hard. The 5-minute timer is unchanged from normal.

Do I need to beat Zenara & Astralym to unlock the other Hard towers? No. Clearing Auri & Shaolong is the only gate. Zenara & Astralym's Hard version is its own separate rematch once you've beaten it on normal — and because it's typeless with no elemental weakness, it's a pure gear-and-DPS fight rather than a counter-pick.

What's the best team for Hard Mode towers? Two builds work: a weapon build (Mechanical Bow or Beam/Plasma weapon with a party of Attack-buffing Gobfins, aiming at the trainer), or a Pal carry build (one monster like Bellanoir Libero or Orserk running Diamond Body + Immortality + Serenity while you survive). Either way your Pals should be Level 80, 4-star condensed, Awakened, maxed on Pal Souls and Trust, and in Ancient-tier gear.

What do Hard Mode tower bosses drop? Every clear guarantees the boss's faction hat, a Training Crystal, and a Tower Key Sphere, plus a permanent Hard expedition unlock. Each boss also has about a 10% chance at a Tier-4 schematic — the standouts are the Beam Launcher (Auri & Shaolong), Plasma Rifle (Saya & Selyne), and Lightweight Ancient Armor (Bjorn & Bastigor). Zenara's Hard clear instead drops the Psycho Gravity skill fruit.

Why does my old build keep dying in Hard Mode? Because the whole meta changed at 1.0. The level cap is now 80 (not 65), condensing to max costs 48 Pals (not 116), and IVs are no longer locked at capture. An Early Access build is under-stated for a Level-80 fight — you need the full modern stack of condensing, Pal Souls, Stat Fruits, Trust, Awakening, and the right four passives.
