TL;DR — Digital Extremes is retiring the Riven Disposition system. In the hotfix scheduled for Thursday, October 22, 2026, every Riven gets the same stat range, equal to a Disposition of 1.2 (four dots). Weapons that sat at 0.5, like the Kuva Nukor, Laetum and Narin's Nunchasa, get Rivens 2.4x stronger (+140%). Weapons that sat at 1.55, like the Harpak and Flux Rifle, drop about 23%. The same hotfix caps Ammo Efficiency at 75%. Everyone who logs in after it gets 1 built Forma + 100,000 Kuva (claimable until December 31, 2026), and Riven trading is switched off until the hotfix lands. Current for Update 44.1 (Iceblade of Narin: The Icebind).
It's one of the biggest changes to Rivens since they launched in 2016. DE announced it in a Dev Workshop on the official forums on Tuesday, October 20, alongside Devshorts #120, and r/Warframe has been going through the list weapon by weapon ever since. This guide pulls out what actually matters: which Rivens go up, which go down, what happens to infinite-ammo builds, and what to do with your Rivens before and after Thursday.
What is changing with Riven Dispositions?
Until now, every weapon had its own Riven Disposition between 0.5 and 1.55. That number multiplied every stat on the weapon's Riven. Popular weapons got low Dispositions and weak Rivens. Unpopular ones got high Dispositions and strong Rivens.
DE is removing that. In the Dev Workshop's own words:
"Rivens no longer have varying Dispositions, meaning all Rivens share the same range for stat values (the equivalent to a Disposition of 1.2)."
DE adds that "ALL Rivens will be slightly above the current average in terms of power." Three things follow from that:
- Every Riven now rolls from the same range. A Nataruk Riven and a Harpak Riven with the same traits will have the same potential stat ranges. Individual rolls still vary, so a good roll still matters.
- No more quarterly swings. DE says "your Rivens will not change unless you change them through rerolling."
- New weapons get full-strength Rivens on day one. Since 2020, new weapons started at 0.5. That rule goes away.
Your existing Rivens are not rerolled or deleted. Their traits stay the same. Only the numbers attached to those traits change, up or down, to match 1.2.
When do the Riven Disposition changes go live?
DE says the changes ship in a hotfix on Thursday, which is October 22, 2026. The same hotfix brings the Ammo Efficiency cap and the compensation inbox. DE hasn't given an exact time, so watch the official patch notes page and @PlayWarframe on X on Thursday.
Status as of October 21, 2026: not live yet. The newest listed PC hotfix is still 44.1.2 + 2.1. The changes are live once DE posts Thursday's hotfix notes, so read those notes in case anything was adjusted at the last minute. DE also confirmed Acid Shells changes are coming, but said details will only appear in the hotfix patch notes.
How much stronger or weaker will my Riven get?
Riven stats scale in a straight line with Disposition. The WARFRAME Wiki's Riven Mods page explains that each stat is rolled from a base value and then "multiplied by the weapon's Riven Disposition." So the change to your Riven is simply 1.2 divided by your weapon's old Disposition.
| Old Disposition | Old dots | New value | Change to every stat |
|---|---|---|---|
| 0.50 | ●○○○○ | 1.2 | +140% (2.4x) |
| 0.60 | ●○○○○ | 1.2 | +100% (2x) |
| 0.65 | ●○○○○ | 1.2 | +85% |
| 0.70 | ●●○○○ | 1.2 | +71% |
| 0.90 | ●●●○○ | 1.2 | +33% |
| 1.00 | ●●●○○ | 1.2 | +20% |
| 1.20 | ●●●●○ | 1.2 | No change |
| 1.30 | ●●●●○ | 1.2 | −8% |
| 1.40 | ●●●●● | 1.2 | −14% |
| 1.55 | ●●●●● | 1.2 | −23% |
Example: a Riven with +150% Critical Chance on a 0.65 weapon becomes roughly +277% after the hotfix. The same Riven on a 1.55 weapon would drop to about +116%. Negative traits scale the same way, so a bad negative on a low-Disposition weapon also gets bigger.
To see a weapon's current Disposition, open it in the Arsenal, go to Upgrade, and look for Riven Disposition in the stats panel. The dots are a rounded version of the real number. 1.2 sits in the four-dot band (1.11 to 1.3), so expect four dots on every weapon once the hotfix is live.
Which weapons are the biggest Riven winners?
The biggest gains go to the weapons that were stuck at 0.5. Most are recent releases, because DE started all new weapons there. Each of these gets Rivens 2.4x stronger:
- Nunchasa and Aksondol (Narin's signature weapons from Update 44)
- Steflos Prime and Corufell Prime (from Citrine Prime Access)
- Kuva Nukor and Laetum
- Mausolon (Archgun)
Next come the popular endgame weapons DE had kept low for years. These are the Rivens players are most excited about:
| Weapon | Old | New | Riven stat change |
|---|---|---|---|
| Acceltra Prime | 0.55 | 1.2 | +118% |
| Epitaph Prime | 0.55 | 1.2 | +118% |
| Cedo Prime | 0.55 | 1.2 | +118% |
| Grimoire | 0.6 | 1.2 | +100% |
| Felarx | 0.6 | 1.2 | +100% |
| Phenmor | 0.6 | 1.2 | +100% |
| Praedos | 0.6 | 1.2 | +100% |
| Nikana Prime | 0.6 | 1.2 | +100% |
| Nataruk | 0.65 | 1.2 | +85% |
| Xoris | 0.65 | 1.2 | +85% |
| Ignis Wraith | 0.65 | 1.2 | +85% |
| Kuva Ogris | 0.7 | 1.2 | +71% |
| Rubico Prime | 0.7 | 1.2 | +71% |
| Kuva Hek | 1.0 | 1.2 | +20% |
DE's own examples of "popular weapons" getting a big jump were the Nataruk (0.65 to 1.2) and Grimoire (0.6 to 1.2). The "average" examples were Gotva Prime (0.85 to 1.2) and Staticor (0.9 to 1.2).
If you've been sitting on a decent Riven for one of these weapons and never used it because the numbers were small, Thursday is when it becomes worth building around. Our Incarnon weapons tier list and primary weapons tier list are a good starting point for which of these are worth the Forma.
Which weapons lose Riven power?
DE lists two groups that go down. The first is a small set of strong Incarnon weapons. DE's examples are Burston Prime (1.35 to 1.2) and Dual Ichor (1.25 to 1.2). The second is old, low-Mastery weapons that had high Dispositions to make them usable. DE's examples are the Harpak (1.55 to 1.2) and the Heat Sword, which is listed at 1.48 in the full table.
The weapons that fall the furthest are the ones that sat at the very top:
| Weapon | Old | New | Riven stat change |
|---|---|---|---|
| Flux Rifle | 1.55 | 1.2 | −23% |
| Harpak | 1.55 | 1.2 | −23% |
| Kraken | 1.53 | 1.2 | −22% |
| Magnus | 1.53 | 1.2 | −22% |
| Aklato | 1.52 | 1.2 | −21% |
| Cestra | 1.52 | 1.2 | −21% |
| Tetra | 1.5 | 1.2 | −20% |
| Seer | 1.5 | 1.2 | −20% |
These tables are the highlights. DE's Dev Workshop has the complete old-to-new value for every weapon, so check it for anything not listed here.
Note that variants are separate. The base Flux Rifle loses power, but the Tenet Flux Rifle is listed as "No changes." DE's full list also marks 47 weapons as "No changes," including Boltor Prime, Hek, Scourge, Lex Prime and Sicarus. Those were already at 1.2.
A lot of the complaints in the r/Warframe Dev Workshop thread come from players who kept a niche weapon alive with a 5-dot Riven. One player, talking about their most-used secondary, called the changes "extremely heavy handed" and said "the disposition actually made it SP viable." Others see it the opposite way. As another commenter in the Dev Workshop thread put it: "I think in the long run its the right move."
Why is DE retiring Riven Dispositions?
The Dev Workshop gives a short history and a clear reason. Dispositions were meant to make unpopular weapons more attractive. In practice, DE says, "investment was still focused on making powerful weapons more powerful," and "reducing values and taking away power was never popular."
Two later changes made the system harder to justify:
- 2020: new weapons started at 0.5 so they couldn't be nerfed later. That made new Rivens boring on release.
- 2023: the Incarnon Genesis system arrived and DE paused Disposition decreases indefinitely. From then on, the numbers mostly sat still.
DE's summary is blunt: "Warframe players like big numbers." With Riven Splicers and trait locking having already reset many Riven prices this autumn, DE says "the sooner we make this change, the less of an impact it will hopefully have on the Riven ecosystem."
What is the new Ammo Efficiency cap?
The other half of the Dev Workshop is about infinite ammo. Riven Splicers made Ammo Efficiency easy to put on a Riven (see our Riven Splicers guide), and DE says that turned infinite ammo from a sometimes-buff into a guaranteed part of builds. Its stated concern is "the possibility for automated gameplay."
The fix: Ammo Efficiency is capped at 75% from Thursday. That means only 1 in 4 shots uses ammo. The cap applies to Ammo Efficiency stacked from any combination of sources.
Effects that were designed to give infinite ammo keep it. They're just relabelled "Infinite Ammo." DE lists:
- Void Relic cracking buffs
- Chamber Cascade (Akmagnus Prime and Magnus Prime unique trait)
- Overdrive (Athodai and Athodai Prime unique trait)
- Frenzy (Dual Toxocyst unique trait)
- Death Knell (Knell and Knell Prime unique trait)
- Gale Force (Perigale and Perigale Prime unique trait)
- Reaper's Plenty (Vasto Incarnon evolution)
Five other sources are reworked:
| Source | Before | After (max rank) |
|---|---|---|
| Arcane Pistoleer (on pistol weak point kill) | 60% chance for +102% Ammo Efficiency, 12s | 60% chance for Infinite Ammo, 12s |
| Brain Storm (Grakata augment, on headshot) | +100% Ammo Efficiency for 0.5s | 40% chance for Infinite Ammo, 2s |
| Skull Shots (Viper augment, on headshot) | 100% Ammo Efficiency for 2s | 40% chance for Infinite Ammo, 2s |
| Enough for Everyone (Bronco Incarnon) | +80% when 6 enemies are within 6m | +75% when 6 enemies are within 6m |
| Crimson Overture (Dera, Boltor Incarnon, on kill) | +20% for 5s, stacks 4x | +25% for 5s, stacks 3x |
How much this hurts depends on the weapon. One r/Warframe player summed up why some builds care so much: "A grakata with 100% ammo efficency is a gimick. A kuva hek with 100% eff is a guarenteed 4x multishot on every shot." If your build relied on a spliced Ammo Efficiency trait, check it after the hotfix and plan for ammo mutation or pickups again.
What compensation do you get for the Riven changes?
DE calls it the Arsenal Retuning Inbox. There are two parts:
- Everyone who logs in after Thursday's hotfix gets 1 built Forma + 100,000 Kuva. It's available until December 31, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. ET.
- Players who installed a Riven Splicer in a Riven before the hotfix get a second inbox with 1 Riven Splicer + 100,000 Kuva, as an early-adopter thank-you.
So a Splicer user ends up with 200,000 Kuva, a Forma and a Splicer back.
How far does 100,000 Kuva go? Rolling a Riven starts at 900 Kuva and is capped at 3,500 Kuva per cycle from the 10th roll on, per the wiki. That makes 100,000 Kuva about 28 max-cost rolls, or about 14 if you lock a trait, which doubles the cost to 7,000. The Riven Mods guide explains rolling and locking in full, and our Kuva farming guide covers topping up afterwards.
Reaction to the amount is split, as a r/Warframe thread on the compensation shows. Some players call it low for heavy Riven users. Others point out, as one did, that "the median Warframe player barely engages in rivens anyways," and that a free Forma plus 100k Kuva is a decent gift for most people.
Why can't I trade Rivens right now?
DE has disabled Riven trading until the hotfix goes live. If you try, you'll get a "Failed to make offer" message. DE's reason: "We want players to be able to make informed trading decisions, and there is no way to guarantee all players will know about the coming changes to their Riven within this ~48 hour window."
That's deliberate, not a bug, and there's nothing to fix on your end. The pause only covers Rivens. Once trading returns, the usual rules apply: you need Mastery Rank 2 and 2FA to trade at all, and both players need MR8 to trade a Riven. Our trading guide covers the full rules.
Should you sell, keep or reroll your Rivens after the hotfix?
Here is how we'd handle it, based on what DE has published:
- Rivens for weapons going up (anything under 1.2): keep them. A roll you dismissed as weak may be a good one on Thursday. Re-check its numbers in the Arsenal after the hotfix before you reroll it.
- Rivens for weapons going down (anything over 1.2): don't panic-reroll. A 1.3 weapon only loses 8%. Even the worst case, 1.55, loses 23%, so a great roll usually stays a good roll.
- Unveiled Rivens you haven't rolled yet: no reason to rush. Rolling after the hotfix means every roll uses the new 1.2 range.
- Spliced Rivens with Ammo Efficiency: expect the stat to stop at 75% in total. It's your call whether to keep it or cycle the splice off.
Expect Riven trade prices to move for a while once trading reopens, because the value of a Riven no longer depends on its weapon's Disposition. Use the in-game trade chat and the community price listings most Tenno check, and give things a few days to settle before you sell anything valuable. Riven trading is the one place in Warframe's economy where good rolls can earn real Platinum, and the platinum guide explains how to do that safely inside the game.
One warning while prices are moving. Only trade Rivens inside the game, through the Trading Post in a Dojo or Maroo's Bazaar. DE's EULA bans "secondary markets" for virtual goods, and DE's Trading FAQ & Safe Trading Tips says outside Platinum sellers "are not legitimate." DE's policy is that each player is responsible for their own trades, so don't count on getting a scammed Riven back.
FAQ
Is Riven Disposition being removed in Warframe? Yes. DE announced in a Dev Workshop on October 20, 2026 that the Riven Disposition system is being retired. From the hotfix on Thursday, October 22, every Riven uses the same stat range, equal to a Disposition of 1.2.
What disposition will all Rivens have? 1.2, which shows as four out of five dots. DE says this puts all Rivens "slightly above the current average in terms of power."
Will my Riven's traits change? No. Your traits stay the same. Only the numbers change, scaled by 1.2 divided by the weapon's old Disposition. A 0.65 weapon's Riven stats rise about 85%, and a 1.55 weapon's fall about 23%.
Why does Riven trading say "Failed to make offer"? DE disabled Riven trading on purpose until Thursday's hotfix, so nobody trades a Riven without knowing how its stats will change. It comes back with the hotfix.
What is the Arsenal Retuning Inbox? It's DE's compensation. Everyone who logs in after the hotfix gets 1 built Forma and 100,000 Kuva, claimable until December 31, 2026. Players who used a Riven Splicer before the hotfix also get 1 Riven Splicer and another 100,000 Kuva.
Is infinite ammo gone from Warframe? No. Ammo Efficiency is capped at 75%, but effects built to give infinite ammo, like Void Relic cracking buffs, Chamber Cascade and Reaper's Plenty, still do. Arcane Pistoleer, Brain Storm and Skull Shots now give a chance for Infinite Ammo instead of raw Ammo Efficiency.
