Warframe has hundreds of guns and no ranked mode, so "best primary" only means something when you attach it to content. This tier list ranks the primary weapons that actually carry Steel Path, endgame survival and boss damage as of Update 43.5: Amir's Shockwave (August 2026) — the current live build. It is a use-case list, not a ladder: Digital Extremes publishes no weapon damage numbers, so every placement is community consensus (overframe.gg traffic data, r/Warframe, Sportskeeda) cross-checked against the official Warframe wiki, and it is stamped to this patch on purpose.

Quick answer: the best primary weapons right now (Update 43.5)

  • Best all-round primary: Torid (Incarnon) — its evolved form throws chaining gas clouds that blanket a room with status, no headshots required. It is the single most-recommended primary in the game.
  • Best single-target / boss primary: Phenmor (Incarnon rifle) or Felarx (Incarnon shotgun) for raw burst.
  • Best AoE that survived the nerf: Kuva Zarr (launcher) still deletes crowds.
  • Best free endgame primary: Nataruk — a bow you get for finishing The New War, with infinite ammo on a perfect shot.
  • The real lever: the base weapon matters less than Incarnon Genesis + Galvanized mods + a Primary Arcane. A B-tier gun built correctly out-damages an S-tier gun built badly.

This article covers primaries only. For secondaries and melee, see our full Warframe weapons tier list.

What defines the primary weapon meta in 2026?

Two systems decide this list, and neither is the base gun.

1. The AoE rework moved the meta from nuking to precision. For years the default answer to "best primary" was a launcher that erased the whole map (Kuva Bramma, Kuva Zarr). After Digital Extremes reworked area-of-effect ammo economy and self-stagger, that stopped being free. Launchers are still strong, but the top of the list is now dominated by Incarnon rifles, bows and shotguns that scale through precision and status instead. That is why Torid, Phenmor and Latron sit above the old map-deleters today.

2. Incarnon Genesis is the biggest single upgrade you can give a primary. An Incarnon Genesis adapter turns an ordinary weapon — even a starter rifle — into a Steel Path-viable one. Per the official wiki, you get them by "running The Circuit with the Steel Path modifier enabled to obtain up to two Incarnon Geneses every week," and you "select two of five Incarnon Genesis Adapters for the week as the Tier 5 and 10 rewards." The rotation of which five are on offer changes every week and resets Monday, so the exact adapters available right now depend on the day you read this — always check the live Circuit rotation before you grind.

Because of these two systems, a fair primary tier list is scoped by use-case (Steel Path clear vs. boss burst vs. beginner accessibility), never as an objective "#1 gun."

S-tier primary weapons (Steel Path & endgame)

These are the primaries that clear Steel Path with the least investment and the widest coverage.

  • Torid (Incarnon) — launcher. The consensus best all-round primary. Its evolved form lobs gas clouds that chain and reapply status across a room, so it clears without aiming at heads. Base weapon is researched in the Clan Dojo's Bio Lab; the Incarnon power comes from a Steel Path Circuit adapter installed at Cavalero.
  • Phenmor (Incarnon) — rifle. Elite single-target and boss burst with crit scaling and an infinite-ammo Incarnon mode. Acquired from Cavalero in the Zariman (Holdfasts), Rank 2, for 6,000 Standing — no Circuit RNG required.
  • Felarx (Incarnon) — shotgun. Enormous per-shot burst in charged Incarnon mode; better raw single-target than Torid at the cost of more reload downtime. Also from Cavalero (Holdfasts), Rank 3, 8,000 Standing.
  • Kuva Zarr — launcher. The AoE king that survived the rework. Cannon shots plus a cluster-bomb alt-fire still shred crowds, but it eats ammo and self-staggers, so pair it with Cautious Shot or Primed Sure Footed. Obtained from a Kuva Lich.
  • Nataruk — bow. The best free-to-endgame primary in the game. You get it for completing The New War, it has infinite ammo on a perfect-timed shot, near-one-shots even in Steel Path, and it only needs about two Forma to feel finished.

A-tier primary weapons

Excellent guns that are one notch below the S-tier in either coverage or ease of acquisition.

  • Tenet Arca Plasmor — shotgun. Penetrating energy blasts with innate radiation and solid crit; a comfortable all-rounder. A Tenet weapon acquired through Ergo Glast and a Corpus Sister.
  • Cedo — shotgun. A damage-plus-status hybrid whose glaive-like ricochet alt-fire primes enemies for your other weapons. Built from a blueprint bought via Cephalon Simaris.
  • Burston Prime / Burston (Incarnon) — rifle. A viral-heat crit build that plays like a classic burst rifle with modern lethality; consistently one of the most-viewed primary builds on overframe.gg. Prime comes from relics; the Incarnon adapter comes from the Circuit rotation.
  • Latron (Incarnon) — rifle. High single-target crit scaling; a community favorite semi-auto once evolved. Incarnon adapter from the Steel Path Circuit.
  • Boar (Incarnon) — shotgun. A strong status/crit shotgun once its adapter is applied; Circuit rotation.
  • Acceltra Prime — rifle. Fast, self-safe rockets built for viral-heat; great for players who want AoE without launcher self-damage. Prime via relics.
  • Bubonico — arm-cannon (primary slot). A hybrid that fires viral bursts and lobs explosives on its alt-fire; excels in Infested and Defense content. From the Entrati on Deimos.

B-tier and situational primaries

Still very usable — either niche, or overtaken by newer options.

  • Kuva Bramma — bow. Dropped from "delete the map" to "still good" after the AoE changes; a strong burst-AoE bow from a Kuva Lich.
  • Kuva Ogris — launcher. Reliable, self-safe AoE from a Kuva Lich.
  • Rubico Prime — sniper. The premier single-target sniper for Eidolon and boss damage; specialized, not a general clear tool. From relics.
  • Strun (Incarnon) — shotgun and Boltor (Incarnon) — rifle. Both jump multiple tiers with their Circuit adapters and are excellent budget entries into the Incarnon meta.
  • Dread (Incarnon) — bow. A high-crit slash bow, strong once evolved; Circuit rotation.
  • Sporothrix — sniper and Trumna — rifle/launcher hybrid. Solid DoT and bullet-hose-plus-AoE options from the Entrati on Deimos.

Which primaries should a new player actually chase?

You do not need Prime access or Kuva Liches to hit endgame. The fastest path:

  • Nataruk — free from The New War, infinite ammo, scales to Steel Path. If you can run the quest, this is your first endgame primary.
  • Braton or Paris (Incarnon) — the humble starter rifle and starter bow both have Incarnon Genesis adapters in the Circuit rotation. When they come up as the weekly Tier 5/10 rewards, grabbing one turns a weapon you already own into a Steel Path gun.
  • Burston Prime or Cedo — accessible mid-game buys/builds that scale well without heavy Forma.
  • Phenmor — once you finish the Zariman quest line, this is a guaranteed S-tier that costs Standing, not RNG.

The through-line: a beginner should chase Incarnon adapters and Galvanized mods before chasing rare weapons. The system does more for your damage than the gun does.

How do the numbers actually work? (the stats that matter)

  • Steel Path is the benchmark this list is built for. On Steel Path, enemies are +100 levels, with 250% health and 250% shields, plus +100% resource and mod drop chance (per the official wiki). That extra durability is exactly why status-chaining and crit-scaling primaries beat flat-damage guns here.
  • Incarnon Genesis is weekly-gated. You can earn up to two adapters per week from the Steel Path Circuit, chosen from a rotating set of five. Plan your grind around the rotation reset.
  • Mastery still counts. Every primary gives 100 Mastery points per rank (3,000 at rank 30), so leveling a broad weapon roster is also how you climb Mastery Rank — worth doing even for guns you will not main.

One caveat on Rivens: Riven Dispositions are rebalanced every single Prime Access, so a Riven-boosted ranking has a shelf life of one cycle. This list deliberately ranks weapons on their base kit and Incarnon potential, not on Rivens — build a Riven if you love the gun, but do not pick your primary because of one.

Getting there faster without breaking the rules

A lot of these picks are gated behind long grinds — Kuva Liches for the Kuva weapons, weekly Circuit rotations for Incarnon adapters, relic farming for Primes. The legitimate ways to speed that up are all in-game: run the Steel Path Circuit every week so you never miss an adapter, group up for relic cracks so you can pick from all four rewards, and farm Prime parts to trade for the Platinum that buys weapon slots and Forma. If you want the full economy playbook, see our guides on how to make Platinum in Warframe and how to farm Prime parts.

FAQ

What is the best primary weapon in Warframe right now? For all-round Steel Path clearing, the community consensus as of Update 43.5 (August 2026) is the Torid Incarnon — its evolved gas clouds chain status across a whole room without needing headshots. For single-target and boss burst, Phenmor or Felarx edge it out. There is no single objective "#1" because Warframe has no ranked mode or developer-published damage data, so the right answer depends on the content you run. (see our warframe promo codes guide).

How do I get Incarnon primary weapons? Complete The Duviri Paradox quest, unlock The Steel Path, then run The Circuit with the Steel Path modifier on. You can earn up to two Incarnon Genesis adapters per week, chosen from a rotating set of five as the Tier 5 and Tier 10 rewards, and install them on the matching weapon at Cavalero. The five on offer rotate weekly and reset Monday, so check the current rotation before you grind.

Are AoE launchers still worth using after the nerf? Yes, but they are no longer the automatic best pick. Kuva Zarr and Kuva Ogris still clear crowds well; they just cost more ammo management and can self-stagger, so run Cautious Shot or Primed Sure Footed. The meta has shifted toward precision Incarnons like Torid and Phenmor for sustained scaling.

What is the best primary for a new player? Nataruk, because it is free from The New War, has infinite ammo on a perfect shot, and scales all the way to Steel Path. After that, grab an Incarnon Genesis adapter for a weapon you already own — the starter Braton and Paris both have adapters in the Circuit rotation.

Do I need Rivens to use these weapons? No. Riven Dispositions rebalance every Prime Access, so their value is temporary, and none of the picks above require a Riven to work. Build a Riven only if a weapon is already your main.

Is the Torid actually worth the grind? For most players, yes — it is the most-recommended all-round primary in the game and clears the widest range of content with the least aiming skill required. If you specifically want boss burst instead of crowd clear, put that grind into Phenmor or Felarx.
