Quick answer: Not confirmed. As of November 1, 2026, Blizzard hasn't announced enchanting vellums for WoW Forever. What exists is 177 scroll-style enchant items in the game's client data, IDs 273458 to 273635, including enchants that are new to Forever. No Enchanting Vellum material turned up in the databases we could check, and we found no verified report of anyone using these items in the beta. Treat it as likely enough to plan for, not safe enough to bank on. The real answer comes at launch on November 4.
Updated November 1, 2026. Client data can change before launch, and Blizzard can switch these items on, or leave them unused, without notice. We'll update this page when the live game settles it.
A screenshot hit r/classicwow on November 1 and became the most-discussed post among the subreddit's 60 newest: 1,376 upvotes and 815 comments in about three and a half hours. Some replies celebrated the end of trade-chat enchant bots. Others were calling vellums anti-Classic.
Both camps are arguing about a feature nobody has used yet. Here's what the data shows, what it doesn't, and how to pick Enchanting without betting on either outcome.

What did players actually find in the WoW Forever client?
The screenshot shows a database list of items with the same names as Enchanting spells, each tagged "New" and "PTR Only". We checked the claim against Endgame Tools, which reads the Forever client, by walking the item IDs one at a time.
The block is real. In client build 1.60.1.70707, IDs 273458 to 273635 hold 177 items named "Enchant [slot] - [effect]". Only ID 273603 in that range is missing, and the items on either side are unrelated gear. Wowhead's Forever database files Enchant Weapon - Crusader under Item Enhancements (Permanent), which is how a scroll you use on your own gear would be categorised.
| Slot | Items in the client |
|---|---|
| Bracer | 37 |
| Weapon | 27 |
| Gloves | 23 |
| Chest | 21 |
| Cloak | 19 |
| 2H Weapon | 17 |
| Shield | 14 |
| Boots | 11 |
| Necklace | 5 |
| Off-Hand | 3 |
| Total | 177 |
Each record we opened reads the same way: common quality, item level 1, type Permanent. The Crusader record carries the familiar tooltip text: "Permanently enchant a melee weapon so that often when attacking in melee it heals for 75 to 125 and increases Strength by 100 for 15 sec."
Are the items just leftovers from a retail build?
This was the best sceptical argument in the thread, and it's only half right.
Leftover files are a real thing, and a pile of old items proves little by itself. But this block includes enchants built for Forever. The five necklace items match the five new necklace enchants Blizzard Watch listed in September: Strength, Agility, Spell Power, Healing Power and Deflection. Enchant Weapon - Grand Crusader, which heals for 350 to 450 and grants 120 Strength for 20 seconds, is in there too, along with Enchant Weapon - Revelation from the same Blizzard Watch list.
Blizzard Watch lists those necklace enchants as new to Forever, which makes them poor candidates for retail leftovers. Someone built this block for Forever, or generated it from Forever's recipe list. Our read is that it's deliberate work, but that doesn't tell us whether it ships. If we had to call it, we'd lean towards vellums arriving at launch or in an early patch, at low confidence.
Why isn't it confirmed yet?
Four things stand between "in the client" and "in your bags on November 4":
- Blizzard hasn't said so. We scanned all eight Blizzard forum threads below and found no Blizzard employee reply on vellums. The closest thing is a community MVP writing in October that it "remains to be seen".
- No vellum item turned up. On retail, Enchanting Vellum (item 38682) is a separate item, crafted and sold by NPCs. That ID returns nothing on Endgame Tools or ForeverChanges, and the WCLBox Enchanting recipe page doesn't mention the word. Forever could use a new ID, so this is a gap, not proof. Wowhead's Forever pages blocked our direct checks.
- No verified beta use. A prominent reply in the thread says Wowhead dates the items to a build from before the beta, and that they were never active there. We couldn't open Wowhead's record to confirm the build. Beta testers were asking for vellums because they didn't have them.
- "PTR Only" is a label, not a test realm. The only PTR in Blizzard's latest WoW Weekly is the Midnight Talebound demo. We found no announced public Forever PTR, so don't read the tag as proof that players are testing these items.
There's also a case for hidden content. Blizzard Watch warned back in September: "These may also not be all of the new enchants going into launch and some could be hidden from datamining or added later in WoW: Forever's release cycle". The beta also sat well below level 60, so it never tested a full endgame economy.
Why does the community care this much?
Because Enchanting can't sell its main product through the auction house. A blacksmith can list a sword and log off, but an enchanter has to meet the buyer. Here's the scale of demand, by our count on November 1:
| Thread | Forum | Posts | Views |
|---|---|---|---|
| Enchanting Vellums PLEASE | US | 319 | 3,343 |
| Enchanting is not alt friendly? | US | 261 | 3,290 |
| Can we have enchanting vellum? | US | 146 | 5,042 |
| Vellums are needed: the current system isn't working | US | 54 | 1,485 |
| Enchanting vellum pls | US | 52 | 1,971 |
| No Vellum because of community/flavor? | US | 47 | 1,175 |
| Vellum PLS | EU | 34 | 1,217 |
| Enchanting vellums | EU | 31 | 1,331 |
| Total | 944 | 18,854 |
The complaints fall into three groups:
- Alts. Without a scroll, you can't enchant something and mail it to your own alt. You have to find an enchanter or level a second one.
- Bots and scams. Trade chat fills with auto-invite enchant bots, and buyers often hand materials to a stranger first.
- Gold risk. Blizzard's trade warning, reported by IGN, covers large gold trades with strangers. One EU thread argues that a service-based profession is the most exposed, since you can't know where a tip came from.
The counterargument deserves a fair hearing too. Having to meet an enchanter in Orgrimmar is part of the texture of Classic, and some players see that as worth more than the convenience. That's a design opinion, not a bug report, and Blizzard may share it.

Would vellums make Enchanting more or less profitable?
Less profitable per enchant, more accessible overall. That's the likely split, and it's our analysis rather than anything measured in Forever.
| Without vellums | With vellums | |
|---|---|---|
| Who gets paid | Whoever is online, in town, with the recipe | Whoever lists cheapest |
| Income model | Tips on top of the buyer's mats | Margin on your own mats |
| Your time | Standing in a city | List and log off |
| Rare recipes | Scarce service, strong tips | Still valuable until copies flood in |
| Buyer risk | Trading mats to strangers | Normal auction house purchase |
| Alts | Blocked | Solved |
A former TBC Classic enchanter's case in this r/classicwow thread is the clearest version. Tips reward being first, but an auction house rewards undercutting, so margins shrink toward the cost of materials. The reply worth weighing: lower friction may mean more people buy cheap levelling enchants they'd have skipped.
A fresh economy changes the timing. Rare formulas stay scarce for a while, and mats are expensive for everyone in week one. So the first enchanters with a good recipe could do well under either system. It's the long tail, once common recipes are widely known, where vellums would squeeze hardest.
Should you still pick Enchanting in WoW Forever?
Yes, if you want it for your own character or for disenchanting. No, if your only plan is tips in Orgrimmar.
Each character gets two primary professions, so this is a real slot to spend. Enchanting's value doesn't rest only on selling enchants, either:
- Disenchanting turns unwanted gear into materials other players need. That market works with or without vellums.
- Campsites. Enchanting adds the Enchanted Lute, Arcane Salvager and Arcane Forge to the camping system.
- New recipes. Forever adds its own enchants, including Grand Crusader and the necklace slot. Those stay worth having even if common ones get cheap.
If you're after the fastest gold, gathering is still the safer opening. Our best professions guide and gold farming guide cover that route. For the bigger picture on prices, see how the fresh economy works.
Here's the practical plan for both outcomes:
- Don't hoard for a vellum market that may not exist. Spend materials on your own skill until you've seen the live game.
- Buying an enchant under the current system? Put your item in the trade window's lower slot, which keeps it yours while the enchant is applied. That protects the gear, not your materials, so hand those over only to someone you trust, or use an enchanter who supplies their own.
- Levelling an alt? Assume you can't send enchants across until a vellum appears in the live game.
Skipping the Enchanting grind? timesaver.gg can take a profession or a gold target off your launch-week list.
- WoW Forever Profession Leveling: for a crafting or gathering skill you'd rather not grind by hand
- WoW Forever Gold: US and EU, for materials and recipes in week one
How can you check for vellums on launch day?
You won't need a datamine. Once servers open at 3:00 p.m. PST on November 4, check these in order:
- An Enchanting trainer or nearby trade supplier. On retail, vellums are vendor stock. Look for any parchment or vellum item.
- Your Enchanting window. See whether a recipe offers a scroll output or lists a new reagent.
- The auction house. Search "Enchant". If scroll items are listed, someone can make them. Early listings may be thin, so search again later in the week.
- Blizzard's forums. A blue reply in one of the vellum threads would settle whether it's intended, or a later addition.
Low-level trainers may not show the full picture. If a vellum recipe sits behind high Enchanting skill, it could take days for anyone to reach it, so a quiet launch night won't prove much.
We'll update this article with the answer once the live game shows it. Meanwhile, the launch day checklist covers what to finish before November 4. If you came to Forever from the old rumour cycle, this Classic+ prep guide shows how far the picture has moved.
FAQ
Does WoW Forever have enchanting vellums? Not confirmed as of November 1, 2026. Forever's client data holds 177 scroll-style enchant items, but Blizzard hasn't announced vellums, and no vellum material has been found in the databases we checked.
Were enchanting vellums in the WoW Forever beta? We found no verified report of anyone using one. Players on the forums were asking for them during the beta, which suggests they weren't available.
Can you mail enchants to your alts in WoW Forever? Not with the system seen in the beta. Enchants were applied directly to the item, so bound gear needs an enchanter in person. Vellums would change that if they go live.
Did Blizzard say why there are no vellums? Not that we could find. There's no Blizzard employee reply in the eight forum threads we scanned. The "keeps enchanters social" explanation comes from players, not from Blizzard.
Will vellums kill Enchanting as a gold maker? They'd likely cut margins on common enchants, because the auction house rewards undercutting. Rare recipes and disenchanting would still have value. This is a forecast, not a measured result.
What does "PTR Only" mean on the screenshot? It's a database label. We found no announced public PTR for Forever, so it doesn't show that players are testing these items.
