WoW Forever Launch Day Checklist: What to Do Before November 4

World of Warcraft: Forever launches globally on November 4, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. PST — a single worldwide clock, not a staggered regional rollout. That is 28 days out as this is written, and the beta ends October 21, so everything you can actually do to prepare happens in a narrow three-week window. This is the checklist: exactly what to lock in before launch day, what is impossible no matter what anyone tries to sell you, and the one timing mistake that will cost you the name you want.

Quick answer: Before November 4 you can do four things that matter — (1) decide whether to buy an optional upgrade edition (the base game is free with your WoW Subscription), (2) reserve up to three character names from October 27 to November 3, (3) pick your ruleset (Normal, PvP or Roleplay) and plan who you're playing with, and (4) line up your gold and leveling plan for a brand-new economy. What you cannot do is pre-level a character or carry anything over — WoW: Forever starts every player at level 1 on a fresh, realmless world, and all beta progress is wiped. The highest-leverage pre-launch action is name reservation on October 27, because names are first-come, first-served and cannot be guaranteed.

If you're still deciding what this game even is, start with our explainer on what World of Warcraft: Forever is and how it differs from Classic, then come back here for the launch plan.

When exactly does WoW Forever launch?

World of Warcraft: Forever goes live November 4, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. PST, worldwide at the same moment. Blizzard states it plainly in its pre-purchase announcement: "When World of Warcraft: Forever launches globally on November 4, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. PST, access will be included with your World of Warcraft Subscription or Game Time." (news.blizzard.com, article 24301508).

One caveat worth flagging, because it trips people up: Blizzard's own articles are inconsistent on the abbreviation — the pre-purchase post writes "PST" while another Forever post writes "PDT." The date and local hour are firm (3:00 p.m. on November 4); only the three-letter label disagrees. For November 4, the US West Coast is actually on Pacific Standard Time (PST, UTC−8) — daylight time ends November 1, 2026 — so convert off PST. Here is the launch moment in the time zones most of our readers are in:

RegionLocal launch time (Nov 4, 2026)
US Pacific (PST)3:00 p.m., Nov 4
US Eastern (EST)6:00 p.m., Nov 4
UK (GMT)11:00 p.m., Nov 4
Central Europe (CET)12:00 a.m. (midnight), Nov 5
Moscow (MSK)2:00 a.m., Nov 5

Expect queues. Fresh-realm — in this case fresh-world — launches always open to a wall of players logging in at once, and a realmless design concentrates everyone into one shared pool rather than spreading them across server names.

Do I need to buy anything to play on launch day?

No. The base game is free with an active World of Warcraft Subscription or Game Time. Forever is included in the existing sub; it is not a separate box purchase. If you already pay for WoW, you can log in at 3:00 p.m. PST on November 4 at no extra cost.

The paid editions are optional upgrades, and exactly one pre-launch perk is worth paying attention to for launch-day readiness: Early Name Reservation, which every paid edition includes. Here is the full lineup, with the single most-misunderstood detail called out:

EditionPriceBeta access?Early Name Reservation?
Base gameFree with Subscription / Game TimeNoNo
Skyborne Heroic Pack$29.99NoYes
Skyborne Epic Pack$59.99YesYes
Warcraft Forever Collection$79.99YesYes

The trap: the $29.99 Skyborne Heroic Pack does not include beta access. Only the $59.99 Epic Pack and the $79.99 Warcraft Forever Collection do. Since beta ends October 21, buying for beta this late barely matters anyway — but if you buy a pack purely to get into beta, the $30 one is the wrong one. The Heroic Pack does give you the Skyborne race, the Zephras Isle starting experience, Early Name Reservation and one Invite-A-Friend Launch Code.

The Epic Pack and the Collection also add 30 days of Game Time starting November 4, which covers your first month without a separate subscription charge, plus two more Invite-A-Friend codes (three total). The Warcraft Forever Collection is a limited-time bundle that also includes Warcraft III: Reforged and the Forsaken Kingdom campaign; it is only available through January 11, 2027. For the full value breakdown, see our guide on which WoW Forever pack to buy.

The highest-priority task: reserve your name (October 27–November 3)

This is the one genuinely time-sensitive thing on the whole list. Early Name Reservation runs October 27 through November 3, 2026, PST, and it is included with any upgrade purchase (Heroic, Epic or Collection). During that window you can create and customize up to three characters and lock in their names.

Blizzard is explicit that it's a scramble: "character names reserved on a first-come, first-served basis. Desired names cannot be guaranteed." On a realmless world there is no second "Server B" where your name is still free — the namespace is shared and matched by language region, and names are two-part (a first name plus a surname). If you want a specific name, log in the moment reservation opens on October 27, not the night before launch.

Our dedicated WoW Forever name reservation guide walks through the exact steps and the two-part naming system.

Checklist for this phase:

  • Have an upgrade edition purchased before October 27 if you want reservation (the base-sub free version does not include it).
  • Decide your three character concepts (race/class) in advance so you're not designing on the clock.
  • Log in at the start of the window, not the end.

What you cannot do before launch (ignore anyone who says otherwise)

Two hard rules, because both are actively misrepresented by less careful sites:

1. You cannot pre-level a character. Every player starts at level 1 on November 4. There is no head start, no founder's boost to max level, nothing. Anyone pitching a "level your alts now before launch" service is selling you something that is physically impossible — there is no live character to level until the servers open.

2. Beta progress does not carry over. All beta characters, levels and gold are wiped before launch. This is consistent with every prior WoW beta; Blizzard has announced no exception for Forever. If you played the beta up to the level-30 cap, that progress is a preview, not a head start.

What this actually means for planning: the useful pre-launch moves are deciding things (name, class, ruleset, who you group with) and lining up resources you'll want in the first week, not grinding anything.

Pick your ruleset and your group before you log in

Forever is realmless — there is no traditional server list. Instead you choose a ruleset, and the game matches you with others by language preference. The launch rulesets are:

  • Normal — standard PvE experience.
  • PvP — open-world PvP enabled.
  • Roleplay — RP conventions and naming.

A fourth, Hardcore, is coming after launch, not on day one. Two grouping facts to plan around: you cannot group across different rulesets, and faction grouping restrictions are retained (Horde and Alliance don't party together). So before launch, agree with your friends on a single ruleset and a single faction — picking different rulesets is the most common way launch-day groups fail to find each other.

For a deeper look at how rulesets and social play work, see our WoW Forever servers and rulesets guide.

Know the early-game systems so you're not caught flat

A few Forever-specific systems change how the first days play out, and knowing them beforehand saves real time:

  • No automatic Dungeon Finder. Forever has an LFG listing board (like Classic Era) where you post or browse groups and invite manually — but there is no auto-matchmaking queue, no Raid Finder, and no teleport to the instance. Plan to travel to dungeons and build groups by hand. (See our LFG and dungeon finder explainer.)
  • BC-style mount cost. The cost of your mount is moved into the riding skill: you buy the riding skill and the mount is granted when you learn it. Budget gold for riding, not a separate mount price.
  • Legacy system unlocks around level 25. The account-wide Legacy progression (three trees: Adventure, Professions, Resourcefulness) opens on your first Legacy Point — typically the first character to hit level 25. You don't need to prep for it, but know it exists.
  • Raids don't open on launch day. The first raids — Barrow Deeps (10-player), Hyjal Summit (20-player) and Onyxia's Lair (40-player) — unlock December 9, 2026, over a month after launch. Launch week is a leveling and gearing race, not a raid race.

Plan your gold and leveling for a fresh economy

A brand-new, realmless economy means prices start near zero and inflate fast as the first players hit the auction house. The practical consequence: early gold has outsized value — the first players with a bankroll buy up cheap mats, skill up professions, and afford riding skill the moment they can train it, while everyone else is still farming copper.

Because nothing carries over from Classic Era or Season of Discovery (Blizzard has not confirmed any transfer), your Forever character starts broke on November 4. The two time-savers that matter in week one are startup gold on your fresh Forever character and booking a day-1 leveling plan in advance so you're not grinding the same early zones as the launch-day mob.

Frequently Asked Questions

What time does WoW Forever launch? World of Warcraft: Forever launches globally on November 4, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. PST — one worldwide time, not a staggered regional rollout. That's 6:00 p.m. EST, 11:00 p.m. GMT, and midnight into November 5 in Central Europe. Blizzard's articles disagree on the "PST" vs "PDT" label, but the date and 3:00 p.m. local hour are firm; for November 4 the correct offset is PST (UTC−8).

Do I have to buy a pack to play WoW Forever? No. The base game is free with an active WoW Subscription or Game Time. The Skyborne Heroic ($29.99), Epic ($59.99) and Warcraft Forever Collection ($79.99) editions are optional upgrades. The only pack perk that affects launch-day readiness is Early Name Reservation, which all three include.

Can I reserve my character name before launch? Yes — Early Name Reservation runs October 27 through November 3, 2026, PST, and is included with any upgrade edition. You can reserve up to three characters. Names are first-come, first-served on a shared, realmless namespace and cannot be guaranteed, so log in when the window opens on October 27.

Does my beta progress or Classic gold carry over to launch? No. Every player starts at level 1 on November 4, and all beta characters, levels and gold are wiped beforehand. Blizzard has not confirmed any transfer of gold or characters from Classic Era, Season of Discovery or Hardcore into Forever, so plan to start fresh.

Can I level a character before WoW Forever launches? No. There is no live character to level until the servers open at 3:00 p.m. PST on November 4. Any service advertising pre-launch leveling of a Forever character is selling something that doesn't exist yet. The legitimate equivalent is booking a day-1 power-leveling plan in advance that executes once launch begins.

Which ruleset should I pick? Choose Normal for standard PvE, PvP for open-world combat, or Roleplay for an RP server culture; Hardcore arrives after launch. Pick the same ruleset and faction as your friends — you cannot group across different rulesets, and Horde and Alliance can't party together.
