StarLadder StarSeries Fall 2026 reaches its main event this week: StarSeries 20 runs from 17 to 20 September 2026 in Barcelona, Spain, with eight teams, a $500,000 prize pool and a straight double-elimination bracket. It is the first S-Tier Counter-Strike 2 event since FISSURE Playground 3 closed in Suzhou, and the last S-Tier stop before ESL Pro League opens on 3 October.
The field is small and top-heavy. Team Vitality, Natus Vincere, FURIA and MOUZ were invited off the Valve Regional Standings (VRS); Aurora Gaming and magic came through the European closed qualifier; NRG won the North American slot and MIBR the South American one. StarLadder set aside Wednesday 16 September as a media day, so competitive play starts on Thursday the 17th.
StarSeries 20 opening day: bracket and start times
All four upper-bracket quarter-finals are played on Thursday 17 September. Times below are CEST (UTC+2), with UTC in brackets.
- 12:00 CEST (10:00 UTC) — MOUZ vs NRG
- 14:30 CEST (12:30 UTC) — magic vs Team Vitality
- 17:00 CEST (15:00 UTC) — Aurora Gaming vs Natus Vincere
- 19:30 CEST (17:30 UTC) — FURIA vs MIBR
Friday 18 September opens the lower bracket at 12:00 and 14:30 CEST, then runs the two upper-bracket semi-finals at 17:00 and 19:30. Saturday 19 September has the second lower-bracket round at 12:00 and 14:30, the upper-bracket final at 17:00, and the lower-bracket semi-final at 19:30.
Sunday 20 September is a two-match finals day: the lower-bracket final at 14:00 CEST (12:00 UTC) and the grand final at 17:00 CEST (15:00 UTC).
Format and map pool
StarSeries 20 skips group play entirely. All eight teams enter a double-elimination playoff bracket, every series except the grand final is a best-of-three, and the grand final is scheduled as a best-of-five on the event bracket. That means no team is eliminated by a single bad map, and a side can lose its opener on Thursday and still reach Sunday's lower-bracket final with three straight wins, or the grand final with four.
The event uses the current seven-map competitive pool: Ancient, Anubis, Cache, Dust II, Inferno, Mirage and Nuke. Cache is the one to watch. It is back in the rotation and Valve was still adjusting it six days ago — the 9 September update we covered fixed spawn issues on the map alongside the demo chat encryption change. The map was already played at S-Tier level after that patch, on 10 and 11 September at FISSURE Playground 3, and it arrives in Barcelona on the patched version.
Prize pool: $500,000, split two ways
The $500,000 is distributed across both a team share and a player share, which is why the figures reported for first place vary between outlets. The winner takes $200,000 in total, of which $100,000 is the players' share. The full table:

Even a last-place finish pays $10,000, but with only eight teams and no group stage, the gap between going out on Friday and still playing on Sunday is large.

What is at stake beyond the trophy
The trophy is the headline, but the VRS is the subplot. PGL Major Singapore 2026 runs 25 November to 13 December in Kallang, Singapore, with the playoffs at the Singapore Indoor Stadium and a $1,250,000 prize pool. Its invites are drawn from the VRS snapshot dated 2 November 2026. Liquipedia's Major page adds that "following the conclusion of the regional qualifiers, all teams will be seeded solely based on Valve's Global Standings within their opening stage".

Two of the eight teams here have very recent S-Tier form to defend. MOUZ and Vitality both went deep at BLAST Open Porto, where Spirit beat MOUZ in the grand final. Neither Spirit nor Legacy — who swept G2 to win FISSURE Playground 3 on Sunday — is in the Barcelona field, which leaves the bracket open in a way a full 16-team event would not be.
MIBR arrive with the newest lineup in the building. The Brazilian side benched brnz4n on 25 August and signed tomaszin on 28 August, and that roster has already been through one S-Tier event — a deep run at FISSURE Playground 3 that ended against the eventual champions. Barcelona is their second S-Tier outing together, opening against FURIA on Thursday.
