The Key to the Arcatraz is a quest reward, not a drop and not a reputation purchase. One key is $28.80. Pairing it with the Warpforged Key is $57.60.
Where it comes from: a 12-step Consortium chain that opens at Area 52 in Netherstorm with Anchorite Karja (Aldor) or Spymaster Thalodien (Scryer) on Assisting the Consortium. Your character has to be level 67 and has to have already picked a side — Aldor or Scryer — or neither NPC will hand the quest over. The middle of the chain is overland busywork: 10 Zaxxis Insignia at The Heap, 10 crates at Manaforge Duro, three triangulation stops and the level 70 elite Culuthas in the Ruins of Farahlon.
The two shards:
- Top Shard of the Arcatraz Key — Warp Splinter, last boss of The Botanica;
- Bottom Shard of the Arcatraz Key — Pathaleon the Calculator, last boss of The Mechanar;
- A’dal in Shattrath fuses the halves on How to Break Into the Arcatraz, which also pays 1,000 Sha’tar reputation.
Why it eats an evening: the shard half needs two grouped dungeon runs and a flying mount to reach both Tempest Keep wings, and the quest is not shared — every character wants its own key. Booked here at roughly 2 hours, piloted by default.
This is not our Heroic Dungeon Keys listing. That one sells the five Revered-gated keys — Flamewrought, Reservoir, Auchenai, Warpforged and the Key of Time. The Arcatraz key carries no reputation requirement at all, so it is a separate job at the same $28.80 rate.
Why alts want it: The Arcatraz is the third of Kael’thas Sunstrider’s Tempest Keep wings and it holds the Seer Udalo step of the Black Temple attunement, so every raider you push into Phase 3 walks through that door.
