Key to the Shattered Halls

Key to the Shattered Halls — Entry Into the Citadel Chain

  • Entry Into Citadel
  • No Rep Required

The Key to the Shattered Halls is a quest reward, not a reputation purchase. It opens the outer gate of the Shattered Halls, the level-70 wing of Hellfire Citadel, and it comes from a four-quest chain that starts with Entry Into the Citadel. One key is $28.80.

The chain, start to finish:

  • kill Smith Gorlunk at Ata'mal Terrace in Shadowmoon Valley, roughly [68, 36], and loot the Primed Key Mold — a 100% drop, so there is no RNG farm here;
  • take the mold to Force Commander Danath Trollbane in Honor Hold (Alliance) or Nazgrel in Thrallmar (Horde);
  • they send you to Grand Master Dumphry (Alliance) or Grand Master Rohok (Horde), who wants 4 Fel Iron Bars, 2 Arcane Dust and 4 Motes of Fire;
  • finish on Hotter Than Hell: kill the Fel Reaver, the level 70 elite that stomps across Hellfire Peninsula, and fire the mold on the wreck.

There is no reputation requirement anywhere in this chain, and that is the entire difference between this key and the five heroic keys on our Heroic Dungeon Keys page. Those need Revered with an Outland faction. This one needs a character at 68 and a dead Fel Reaver — and it pays you about 875 reputation with Honor Hold or Thrallmar on the way through rather than costing you any.

A rogue can skip it. A level 70 rogue with 350 lockpicking picks the gate for the whole group, and only one player in a five-man needs to open it. If that rogue is in your guild every night, you do not need this page. It exists for the alt, the fresh 70 and the pug that keeps standing outside waiting on somebody else's key.

Delivered piloted by default, or Self-play Remote for 30% more, on US realms unless you flip the region switch to EU. The bundle option adds the Flamewrought Key for $57.60 total, so the same booster leaves you able to open both the normal gate and heroic Hellfire Citadel.

Frequently asked questions

  • The Key to the Shattered Halls comes from a four-quest chain. Kill Smith Gorlunk in Shadowmoon Valley for the Primed Key Mold, hand it to Force Commander Danath Trollbane in Honor Hold or Nazgrel in Thrallmar, get sent to Grand Master Dumphry or Grand Master Rohok with 4 Fel Iron Bars, 2 Arcane Dust and 4 Motes of Fire, then kill the Fel Reaver in Hellfire Peninsula and turn the fired mold back in for the key.

  • No. The Key to the Shattered Halls on the WoW TBC Anniversary realms has no reputation requirement at all — it is pure questing. That is what separates it from the five heroic keys, which each need Revered with an Outland faction. The Entry Into the Citadel chain actually pays out roughly 875 reputation with Honor Hold or Thrallmar while you run it, so it moves you toward the Flamewrought Key instead of costing you time.

  • Yes. A level 70 rogue with 350 lockpicking can pick the outer gate of the Shattered Halls, and only one player in the five-man group has to open it. That is the honest alternative to buying the Key to the Shattered Halls: if you run with that rogue every night, skip this page. Most buyers order it because they pug, play alts, or do not want their raid night to depend on one person logging in.

  • The Entry Into the Citadel chain lists a required level of 68 and a recommended level of 70. The recommendation is the number that matters, because the final step, Hotter Than Hell, is a kill on the Fel Reaver — a level 70 elite that needs a small group. We take the chain on any character at 68 or above and bring our own bodies for the Fel Reaver, so you do not need to find a group for it.

  • No. The Key to the Shattered Halls opens the normal-mode gate of the Shattered Halls and needs no reputation. The Flamewrought Key opens heroic mode for all three Hellfire Citadel wings and needs Revered with Honor Hold or Thrallmar. This page sells the quest key at $28.80; the bundle option adds the Flamewrought Key for $57.60 total, and our Heroic Dungeon Keys page covers the other four heroic keys.

  • No. One Key to the Shattered Halls opens the outer gate and the other four players walk in behind it. The catch is that the key holder has to show up every single time, which is why it is worth owning on your own main rather than borrowing. A group of five with zero keys and no 350-lockpicking rogue simply cannot get through the door.

  • There is no Shattered Halls attunement and there never was one — the wing is gated by a physical door, so the Key to the Shattered Halls or a 350-lockpicking rogue is the whole requirement. Blizzard removed the Karazhan, Serpentshrine Cavern and Tempest Keep attunements from the Anniversary realms on 2026-08-27, but that change never touched this key: the Entry Into the Citadel chain is still live and still the only way to earn one.

  • Yes. Every US WoW TBC Anniversary realm is covered and priced in USD at $28.80, with EU sitting behind the region switch at the top of this page. The chain is normally finished inside one session, so US orders get scheduled as a single evening block in ET or PT, whichever you keep, and we confirm the start window with you before a booster touches the account.
