The Abyss is AION 2's open faction-war zone, and three weeks after the global launch it is the most argued-about system on r/Aion2. Elyos players on lopsided server pairings say they can barely get a foothold, melee players ask how they're meant to contribute, and nearly everyone is working out how to spend a weekly time budget that runs out. On top of that, NC changed the Abyss twice in October: the 14 October patch capped stored entry time at 7 hours, and the 21 October patch raised the player cap and boss HP. There is also a Kina-priced Abyss Rift Stone event that ends with the 27 October (PDT) / 28 October (CET) maintenance.
This guide covers how to get in, how the clock works, whether Rift Stones are worth 50,000 Kina, how Abyss Corridors work, and what the latest patch changed. It applies to the AION 2 global PC build as of the 20 October (PDT) / 21 October (CEST) 2026 patch. Rules NC has confirmed are cited to its patch notes. Numbers that come from community wikis are labeled that way.
Quick answer: The AION 2 Abyss (Chaotic Reshanta) opens at level 45 and needs Item Level 1,000 for the Lower Abyss and Item Level 3,000 for the Middle Abyss. Time inside counts down from a weekly allowance of 7 hours per layer, which resets on Wednesday, and NC's 14 October patch capped the stored entry time at 7 hours. Each Lower Abyss Rift Stone adds 1 hour. Until the 27 Oct (PDT) / 28 Oct (CET) maintenance, you can buy them for 50,000 Kina each, up to 7 per character per week. Abyss Corridors are 5-minute solo instances that open after a siege, and only the faction holding that artifact can enter. The 21 October patch let more players into the Abyss and raised Abyss boss and Dimensional Core HP.
How do you get into the Abyss in AION 2?
The Abyss has no unlock quest. According to the Fextralife AION 2 wiki, it opens once your character reaches level 45. There are two ways in:
- Abyss Portal. This is an NPC in your home region: Garden of the Illusion God in Verteron for Elyos and Black Claw Village in Altgard for Asmodians. Using it costs 1 Return Scroll.
- Enter button. Open the Abyss menu (tabs: Abyss Reshanta, Rank, Trade Shop) and press Enter. This sends you to your faction's base: Latesran Western Root for Elyos, Latesran Eastern Root for Asmodians.
Leaving is free. The wiki also notes that the ruined Abyss Gate above Verteron Fortress is not an entrance, which is a common first-day mistake.
The Abyss is split into layers, and each has its own gear gate:
| Layer | Map name | Entry requirement | Players per instance (wiki, before 21 Oct) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Lower Abyss | Chaotic Lower Reshanta | Level 45 + Item Level 1,000 | up to 1,500 |
| Middle Abyss | Chaotic Middle Reshanta | Level 45 + Item Level 3,000 | up to 1,100 |
| Upper Abyss | Chaotic Upper Reshanta | Not open yet on global | n/a |
Those instance sizes come from the wiki and were recorded before the 21 October patch. That patch says "The maximum number of players allowed to enter the Abyss will be adjusted to accommodate more players" (NC patch notes, 20 Oct PDT / 21 Oct CEST), but NC didn't publish the new cap. The map at the top of this page is the Lower layer: your faction's base is in one corner, the enemy's is in the opposite corner, and Reshanta's Root, Sulfur Tree Island and the Archipelago of Siel's Wings are in between.
If you're still short of Item Level 1,000, our AION 2 endgame guide for level 45 covers the fastest route there.
How does the AION 2 Abyss time limit work?
This is what catches new players out. The Abyss doesn't open at set times. You get a weekly stock of hours, and it only counts down while you're inside.
- 7 hours per layer per week. The Lower and Middle Abyss each have their own allowance (Fextralife calls it "Basic Usage Time").
- It resets on Wednesday, along with the other weekly caps. Community guides put the reset at 07:00 UTC. NC hasn't published a clock time, so check your in-game counter.
- Stored time is capped at 7 hours. NC's 14 October patch notes say: "The maximum accumulated time for Abyss entry will be changed to 7 hours." Unused hours don't carry over into an extra-long week.
- Item time stacks on top. The wiki says Rift Stone hours go into a separate "Added Usage Time" pool, which can go up to 30 hours per layer. NC didn't mention that ceiling in the 14 October note, so check how your counter reacts before you buy stones in bulk.
- At zero, you're locked out of that layer until you add more time or the weekly reset arrives.
On the Korean servers, Membership doubled the Abyss allowance to 14 hours (Metaroad). NC has not said whether Membership adds Abyss time on global, so plan around 7 hours unless your own counter shows more.
What this means in practice: don't go in just to look around. The clock starts as soon as you enter. Save your hours for siege nights, Abyss boss spawns and Corridor windows, which pay far better than an average hour. Do your Abyss duty and order-scroll missions during those same sessions so the time isn't wasted.
What is an Abyss Rift Stone, and is it worth 50,000 Kina?
The in-game text for a Rift Stone reads: "A catalyst that can temporarily stabilize the unstable Odyle flow in the Abyss. Recharges Lower Abyss usage time by 1 hour." Several versions exist (permanent, 7-day, 30-day and Season 1). The wiki also lists a Lesser Lower Abyss Rift Stone worth 30 minutes. Middle Abyss Rift Stones are made through Substance Morph using Reshanta Aura, which drops in the Middle Abyss.
In October, NC opened three ways to buy extra Lower Abyss hours. Two of them are about to expire:
| Source | Cost | Limit | Ends | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Conquerors of the Abyss event, Shop → Wind Breeze Merchants → Special | 50,000 Kina | 7 per character per week, level 45+ | Before the 27 Oct (PDT) / 28 Oct (CET) maintenance | The "7 Days" stone is deleted 7 days after you receive it. Non-tradable |
| Halloween Coin Merchant | 30 Pumpkin Coins | 2 per server per week, level 45+ | Halloween event ends 3 Nov (PST) / 4 Nov (CET) | Paid in event currency, not Kina |
| Weekly Season Missions: Spend 1 Hour in the Abyss and Defeat the Boss Guardian Lord Nahma Once | Free | Weekly | Ongoing | Since the 14 Oct patch, both missions reward Abyss Entry Stones |
Sources: NC's official "Conquerors of the Abyss" notice and the 13 Oct (PDT) / 14 Oct (CEST) patch notes on the AION 2 Steam news page.
The math. Buying all 7 event stones costs 350,000 Kina and doubles your free Lower Abyss time from 7 to 14 hours. Add the 2 Halloween stones (60 of the 235 Pumpkin Coins you can earn per week) and you get about 16 hours this week. Each extra hour costs 50,000 Kina. For comparison, NC's other current Kina offer, the Rise to the Challenge event, sells 30 Resurrection Spiritstones for 25,000 Kina.
When it's worth it:
- Buy them if your faction wins sieges. Corridor runs and boss kills pay far more Abyss Points per minute than wandering around. One cleric who transferred to a server that wins sieges described getting "15-20k abyss points" in about two minutes in a Corridor, and another player reported making "20k per corridor". For a player who can use extra hours on siege nights, 50,000 Kina per hour is cheap.
- Skip them if you're on the losing side of your pairing. If you can't hold an artifact or reach a boss, extra hours mostly mean extra deaths. Since you can lose Abyss Points when an enemy player kills you (per the Fextralife wiki), that is negative value. Spend the Kina on enhancement instead.
- This is the last week. The weekly purchase limit lets you buy 7 now, and the event closes at the 27/28 October maintenance. A 7-day stone bought just before the deadline still lasts a week after it arrives, so you don't have to use them all before the maintenance.
Kina is the bottleneck for most players right now. Our AION 2 Kina farming guide covers the free-player routes, including what's locked behind the Membership-only Market.
What are Abyss Corridors, and when do they reset?
Corridors are the reason Elyos players on weak pairings feel left out. According to the Fextralife wiki:
- When an Artifact Siege ends, an Abyss Corridor entrance opens at each artifact. Only the faction that holds that artifact can enter.
- Each Corridor is a solo instance that lasts 5 minutes. You need Item Level 1,000 for Lower Corridors and 3,000 for Middle Corridors.
- If one faction has lost every artifact on a layer, a separate catch-up Corridor opens at that faction's base, for that faction only.
- Abyss Points earned from monsters inside a Corridor don't count toward the weekly PvE Abyss Point limit. This is why Corridors are worth so much.
There's no daily Corridor reset. Corridors refresh with each siege. Community wikis list the Lower Reshanta Artifact Siege on Monday, Thursday and Saturday, and a warning message appears in-game before each one. NC has not published a global siege clock time, so watch for the in-game warning rather than relying on a fixed time from a guide. (The Korean server schedule, Tuesday/Thursday/Saturday at 21:00, is not the global schedule.)
Holding artifacts also gives your whole faction a buff on that layer: +2.5% / +5% / +7.5% Abyss Points for holding 1 / 2 / 3 artifacts (wiki). So a 3:0 siege win affects AP income for every player on that side until the next siege. One player summed up what losing costs: three Corridors, three sieges a week, over two weeks, worked out to "360k abyss points" they'd missed.
Why can't Elyos players do the Abyss on some servers?
The Abyss isn't instanced by server. You fight whoever is on your paired enemy server. NC confirmed server matchmaking as an official system: each Elyos server is paired with an Asmodian server for a limited time, and NC said "We will update server pairings periodically to keep the factions balanced." When a pairing is lopsided, the bigger side holds all three artifacts, owns the Corridors and camps the bosses. The smaller side gets only the catch-up Corridor at its base.
Here's what you can actually do about it:
- Use the catch-up Corridor. If your faction lost every artifact on a layer, look for the Corridor entrance at your base after the siege.
- Do the risk-free AP first. Duty missions, order scrolls, the weekly Season Missions and Corridor monsters don't depend on winning fights. Our AION 2 Abyss Points guide has the full list.
- Don't count on the matching changing soon. NC has given no date for the next re-pairing on global, so don't plan around a rumored one.
- Consider a server transfer, carefully. Players report that moving to a winning server changed their weekly AP income completely. But NC limits how many characters can transfer into and out of each server, and windows can close early. Read our AION 2 server transfer guide first, and remember you can't transfer while you're inside the Abyss.
If you're still choosing a side on a new character, our Elyos or Asmodian guide explains why population on your specific pairing matters more than faction lore.
What changed in the Abyss on 21 October 2026?
NC's patch notes for 20 October (PDT) / 21 October (CEST) list four Abyss changes:
- More players can enter. The maximum number of players allowed into the Abyss was raised (new number not published).
- Lower Abyss Dimensional Cores have more HP. Cores are the siege objective, so sieges now take longer, which gives the losing side more time to fight back.
- All Abyss bosses have more HP. Expect longer fights at Guardian Lord Nahma, Kaira and Argo. Longer fights also mean more time for the enemy faction to show up.
- Kaira's and Argo's hitboxes are slightly bigger, which helps melee players who struggled to land hits.
The earlier 13 October (PDT) / 14 October (CEST) patch set the 7-hour cap on stored entry time, reduced stuttering in large Abyss battles, and added Abyss Entry Stone rewards to two weekly Abyss Season Missions (Spend 1 Hour in the Abyss and Defeat the Boss Guardian Lord Nahma Once).
Is the Abyss safe for PvE players?
No. Per the wiki, PvP against the other faction is always on in the Abyss, whatever your combat status setting. The "PvE mode" toggle doesn't protect you there. A few other rules also catch people out:
- Auto-battle doesn't work in the Abyss.
- Crafting and server transfer are unavailable while you're inside.
- The game can move you to another channel and remove you from your party to keep the factions balanced.
- You can lose Abyss Points when an enemy player kills you (Fextralife). A player with 0 points gives the killer nothing, so there is no reason to fear dying with an empty AP balance.
Still, PvP isn't required to progress, and most AP doesn't come from kills. Community estimates for a week of quests, requisitions and missions run well into six figures. For melee classes, the most useful advice from players is to group up rather than solo. One Gladiator player suggested using an invulnerability stigma plus a dash stagger to break enemy groups for your ranged allies. Our stigma guide explains how to get the shards for that kind of setup.

FAQ
What level do you need for the Abyss in AION 2? Level 45. The Lower Abyss (Chaotic Lower Reshanta) also needs Item Level 1,000, and the Middle Abyss needs Item Level 3,000. There's no unlock quest. Use the Abyss Portal in Verteron or Altgard (1 Return Scroll) or the Enter button in the Abyss menu.
How many hours do you get in the AION 2 Abyss? 7 hours per layer per week, resetting on Wednesday. NC's 14 October 2026 patch capped stored entry time at 7 hours, so unused time doesn't carry over. Each Lower Abyss Rift Stone adds 1 more hour.
Where do you buy Abyss Rift Stones? During the Conquerors of the Abyss event, under Shop → Wind Breeze Merchants → Special, for 50,000 Kina each, up to 7 per character per week at level 45+. The event ends with the 27 October (PDT) / 28 October (CET) maintenance. The Halloween Coin Merchant also sells 2 per server per week for 30 Pumpkin Coins until 3/4 November.
When does the Abyss Corridor reset in AION 2? It doesn't reset on a daily timer. A Corridor opens at each artifact after every Artifact Siege, for the faction holding that artifact. Each run is a 5-minute solo instance. Community wikis list Lower Abyss sieges on Monday, Thursday and Saturday. NC hasn't published a global siege time, so watch for the in-game warning.
Why does the Abyss kick me to another channel? To keep the factions balanced, the game can move you to a different Abyss channel and remove you from your party or force. Regroup in party chat once you're moved.
Does Membership give more Abyss time on global? NC hasn't said. On the Korean servers, Membership doubled the Abyss allowance to 14 hours, but the global 14 October patch only confirms the 7-hour cap. Check your own counter before assuming you have extra time.
The bottom line
The AION 2 Abyss works on a time budget, not a schedule. You get 7 hours per layer each week, so spend them on siege nights, Corridors and boss spawns. This week is the last chance to buy Rift Stones for 50,000 Kina, before the 27 October (PDT) / 28 October (CET) maintenance. They're a good deal if your faction wins sieges and mostly wasted Kina if it doesn't. If you're on the losing side of a pairing, focus on the catch-up Corridor and the risk-free AP missions, and wait for NC's next re-pairing rather than fighting at a disadvantage.
