Applies to: Battlefield 6 on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S, on Game Update 1.4.3.0 (deployed 15 September 2026) during Season 4: Tidal Strike. The campaign itself has not been re-cut since launch, so everything below has been stable since 10 October 2025.

Quick Answer

  • The Battlefield 6 campaign is 9 missions long and takes most players four to seven hours on Normal. EA has never published an official runtime.
  • There is no co-op. EA describes it in its own FAQ as "a single-player campaign" and nothing in the game or in any patch note since launch has added a second player.
  • It is worth playing for the loot: 26 multiplayer rewards sit behind mission completion, six specific challenges, and 30 collectible dog tags.
  • The campaign does not feed your Career Rank. EA's progression page credits Career XP to Multiplayer, REDSEC and Verified Portal experiences only. It pays you in items instead, including a Career XP Booster and a Hardware XP Booster you spend in multiplayer.
  • Clearing every mission on Hardcore is the most valuable objective in the mode, and the only route to the Elegant Ballistics Weapons Package.

What Is the Battlefield 6 Campaign About?

EA's official campaign guide, published on 10 October 2025, sets the premise up front: "The old world is fracturing. With the withdrawal of key European countries, the seventy-year-old NATO Alliance is in danger of collapse. Keen to exploit the situation, an unknown Coalition of hostile countries use a Private Military Organization called Pax Armata to conduct a proxy war against key strategic targets."

You play a US Marine Raiders unit that EA writes as Dagger 13 while also telling you how to say it: "Dagger 13 - pronounced Dagger One Three." Both spellings you have seen online are correct, which is why search results disagree. The squad is five characters whose roles map onto the multiplayer classes:

  • Haz Carter - Assault, and the squad leader.
  • Dylan Murphy - Engineer, the sole survivor of the ambush that opens the story.
  • Simone "Gecko" Espina - Recon, the newest member.
  • Cliff Lopez - Support.
  • Lucas Hemlock - a CIA Operator with, in EA's phrasing, "a largely redacted past."

EA's campaign feature page describes the scale: "you'll be part of a combined arms operation storming the beaches of Gibraltar, take to the streets of Brooklyn for intense gunfights, perform a HALO jump into enemy territory, and more in this modern military thriller." Its story hub places the campaign before the REDSEC content, so this is a prequel, not a side story.

What Are All 9 Battlefield 6 Campaign Missions?

Nine story missions, in order:

  • Always Faithful
  • The Rock
  • Operation Gladius
  • Night Raid
  • No Sleep
  • Moving Mountains
  • Nile Guard
  • Operation Ember Strike
  • Always Forward

EA does not print this list on one page, but it confirms two of the names in its progression article when describing dog tag unlocks, and the ordering is consistent across every mission guide published since launch. Missions can be replayed individually, which matters for the reward hunt below. Nile Guard carries the fewest collectibles, and Always Forward is the only mission handing out two completion rewards at once.

How Long Is the Battlefield 6 Campaign?

EA has never published a runtime, so treat any single number as an estimate rather than a spec. Across the guides published since launch, the range settles between four and seven hours on Normal:

  • GameSpot puts it at "around 4-5 hours to complete the campaign on the normal difficulty level."
  • GamesAtlas lands on "around 5-6 hours to finish the Battlefield 6 campaign at normal difficulty."
  • TechWiser estimates "around 6 to 7 hours."

Per mission that is roughly 30 to 45 minutes, with the set-piece chapters running longer. Add time for the two things that actually pad the run: a collectible sweep, and the Hardcore clear.

Community reaction lines up with that spread. One r/Battlefield6 poster called the mode a "guilty pleasure" worth "5 hours of straight forward war movie super soldier action," while another treated it the way most Battlefield veterans do: "I've always treated it as warmup for multiplayer and a way to get introduced to new mechanics, gadgets, and weapons."

EA agrees with that framing, and says so directly: "We highly recommend new players - as well as all players interested in Battlefield 6's lore - to play the Campaign first before jumping into Multiplayer or Portal experiences."

Does Battlefield 6 Have Campaign Co-Op?

No. The campaign is single-player only.

This is the most-asked question in the cluster, and the answer has never changed. EA's Battlefield 6 FAQ answers "Will Battlefield 6 have Single-Player?" with "Yes, Battlefield 6 will have a single-player campaign following a group of elite Marine raiders known as Dagger 1-3 as they fight to preserve global stability." No patch note since launch, up to and including Game Update 1.4.3.0, has added co-op, drop-in, or shared-progress play.

If you want co-operative Battlefield with friends, the honest routes are Portal community experiences and squad play in Multiplayer or REDSEC. The campaign is not one of them.

What Are the Four Battlefield 6 Campaign Difficulty Settings?

EA publishes the full ruleset for all four settings. These are its own descriptions, condensed:

  • Recruit - "For players who want to focus on the story." Fastest health regeneration, up to three defibrillation charges, and enemies that "deal less damage, take more damage and are slightly less accurate."
  • Normal - "For players who want a balanced combat experience." Standard health and damage values, up to two defibrillation charges.
  • Veteran - "For experienced players only." Slower regeneration with a longer delay, one defibrillation charge, and enemies that "deal more damage, take less damage and are slightly more accurate."
  • Hardcore - "For players who want maximum challenge, no revives." EA is specific here: "No revives - none when starting a mission, and none found on the map. A slower health regeneration rate than Veteran, and enemies deal significantly more damage than on Veteran."

The practical read: the gap between Veteran and Hardcore is not a difficulty step, it is a rules change. Losing the defibrillation charge entirely means a single bad room restarts your checkpoint run, and that is where a four-hour campaign becomes a weekend. You can change difficulty between missions, so the efficient order is a Normal run for story and completion rewards, then targeted Hardcore replays.

What Do You Unlock From the Battlefield 6 Campaign?

This is the part most players skip and then regret. EA's own summary: completing missions, performing specific tasks and gathering collectibles "unlocks some achievements or trophies for your platform of choice and in-game rewards for Multiplayer, including character skins, XP Boosters, a Weapon Package and even a golden Dog Tag (or two)."

There are 26 rewards across three separate tracks.

Track 1 - complete each mission (10 rewards)

  • Always Faithful - Infiltrator, Player Card Title
  • The Rock - Standard Issue character
  • Operation Gladius - Raging Waters, Player Card Background
  • Night Raid - Standard Issue character
  • No Sleep - Home Invasion, Player Card Background
  • Moving Mountains - Shield Bearer, Player Card Title
  • Nile Guard - Standard Issue character
  • Operation Ember Strike - Standard Issue character
  • Always Forward - Bighorn HK-16 melee weapon, plus the Carnivore weapon package for the RPKM

Track 2 - specific challenges (6 rewards)

  • Beat all missions on Hardcore - a "special Weapons Package - 'Elegant Ballistics' - for the B36A3 Assault Rifle" in EA's words
  • Complete a mission without firing a gun, using melee, grenades and gadgets only - Polar Nexus weapon camo
  • Complete a mission without needing to be revived - Deadheader, Player Card Title
  • Complete a mission using only a pistol - Hardware XP Booster
  • Complete a mission with 30 headshots - Breach, Player Card Background
  • Complete a mission with 10 melee kills - Safeties On, Player Card Icon

Track 3 - collectible dog tags (10 rewards)

EA states the total directly in its progression article, listing "Winner Take All - Pick up all Collectibles in all Missions (30 Total)" and "Dead Center - Pick up all Collectibles in Always Faithful (Campaign Mission, 3 Total)." Thirty tags are spread across the nine missions, most holding three, the longer chapters four, and Nile Guard only two:

  • Always Faithful, 3 tags - Dead Center dog tag
  • The Rock, 3 tags - Danger Ahead, Player Card Background
  • Operation Gladius, 3 tags - Elite Raider, Player Card Icon
  • Night Raid, 4 tags - Urban Sprawl skin
  • No Sleep, 3 tags - Gridlock skin
  • Moving Mountains, 4 tags - Career XP Booster
  • Nile Guard, 2 tags - Canopy Drop vehicle camo
  • Operation Ember Strike, 4 tags - Gridlock skin
  • Always Forward, 4 tags - Urban Sprawl skin
  • All 30 tags - Winner Take All dog tag

Missed tags can be picked up later through mission replay, and the in-mission counter tells you how many you still owe.

Does the Campaign Give You Career XP?

No, and this is the single most common misconception about the mode.

EA's progression page is explicit about the sources: "Increase your Career Rank by simply playing Battlefield 6 Multiplayer, REDSEC Battle Royale or Gauntlet, or a Verified Portal Community Experiences." It adds that "All Multiplayer experiences, as well as Verified Community Experiences in Portal, grant full XP towards this progression system."

The campaign is absent from both lists. Playing it will not move your Career Rank toward the level 50 cap, and it will not level a weapon, because weapons and vehicles run on a separate Hardware XP track.

What it gives you instead is better than raw XP if you time it right: two boosters. The Career XP Booster from Moving Mountains and the Hardware XP Booster from the pistol-only challenge both feed the multiplier system, so bank them and fire them during a double-XP window rather than on a quiet Tuesday. Our XP boost stacking guide covers which multipliers combine and which quietly overwrite each other.

Are Campaign Challenges Still Bugged?

Partly, and it is worth knowing before you commit to a completion run.

Campaign challenge tracking has been unreliable since launch, and the complaint resurfaces regularly on r/Battlefield6, where one thread about the hardest-difficulty challenge not registering has been running for months. The workarounds players report are consistent: reinstall if a whole challenge set refuses to track, and for individual missions, quit during a cutscene and reload so the objective re-arms. One player who finished the full set said some challenges "required me to quit during a cutscene and reload into the mission to get them."

None of this appears in the 1.4.3.0 patch notes, so treat it as an open issue. If you are chasing the Hardcore package, verify after each mission that the challenge ticked over. Campaign challenges are also separate from the daily and weekly multiplayer challenge cycle and do not reset.

Should You Play the Campaign Before Multiplayer?

EA's recommendation is to play it first, and there is a mechanical argument beyond lore. The campaign is where you learn combat rolls, squad commands, gadget behaviour and destruction physics without a lobby of Career Rank 50 players punishing you for it. Coming out of it with two boosters banked also means your first serious multiplayer session runs hotter.

The counter-argument is time. Four to seven hours plus a collectible sweep plus a Hardcore clear is realistically a full weekend, and the reward pool is cosmetic apart from the two boosters and two weapons. If your goal this season is rank and hardware, the campaign is a detour.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many missions are in the Battlefield 6 campaign? Nine: Always Faithful, The Rock, Operation Gladius, Night Raid, No Sleep, Moving Mountains, Nile Guard, Operation Ember Strike and Always Forward. All nine can be replayed individually.

How long does the Battlefield 6 campaign take to beat? Roughly four to seven hours on Normal, or 30 to 45 minutes per mission. EA has not published an official runtime, so that range comes from the guides published since launch rather than from the developer.

Is the Battlefield 6 campaign co-op? No. EA describes it only as a single-player campaign, and no update since the 10 October 2025 launch has added co-op or drop-in play.

What are the Battlefield 6 campaign difficulty settings? Recruit, Normal, Veteran and Hardcore. Recruit gives you three defibrillation charges per mission, Normal gives two, Veteran gives one, and Hardcore removes revives entirely while raising enemy damage above Veteran levels.

What do you get for beating the campaign on Hardcore? The Elegant Ballistics Weapons Package for the B36A3 Assault Rifle. EA states it unlocks only if you beat all missions on Hardcore, so a partial run gives nothing on that challenge.

How many collectibles are in the Battlefield 6 campaign? Thirty dog tags across the nine missions. Most missions hold three, the longer chapters hold four, and Nile Guard holds two. Collecting all thirty unlocks the Winner Take All dog tag.

Does the campaign give Career XP or weapon XP? Neither. EA credits Career XP to Multiplayer, REDSEC Battle Royale and Gauntlet, and Verified Portal Community Experiences, and Hardware XP to weapon and vehicle use in those same modes. The campaign instead awards a Career XP Booster and a Hardware XP Booster as items you use in multiplayer.

Do campaign rewards carry into multiplayer? Yes. The skins, player card items, dog tags, vehicle camo, melee weapon and weapon packages all appear in your multiplayer customisation.
