The 10.2.0 Public Test Build gave Dead by Daylight its biggest perk shake-up in years, and the backlash was loud enough that Behaviour Interactive answered it directly. On 5 October 2026 the studio published a Developer Update titled 10.2.0 PTB to Live Changes and walked through exactly which of the complaints it acted on, which it listened to and overruled anyway, and which perk it simply handed back.
Most pages are still reprinting the PTB numbers from three weeks ago, and several of those numbers are already dead. Below is the confirmed PTB-to-Live list, with the PTB text each change replaces.
Quick answer: what changed between the 10.2.0 PTB and Live?
Behaviour confirmed five perk decisions in the 5 October Developer Update:
- Shoulder the Burden no longer deactivates for the other Survivors when you use it.
- This is Not Happening loses the Great basic Skill Check zone increase it had on the PTB.
- Dark Arrogance no longer speeds up recovery from successful hits, only missed and obstructed ones.
- Windows of Opportunity keeps its PTB rework. The backlash did not move it.
- Borrowed Time is reverted to the version currently on Live. The PTB rework is gone.
Everything else from the PTB is still in flight. In Behaviour's own words: "While we have many more changes coming for the release, we wanted to take this time to address the loudest concerns ahead of time."
For context on the scale here, the 10.2.0 Perks Developer Update of 14 September 2026 confirmed 58 perks changing across the update, split 27 Killer and 31 Survivor, and the 10.2.0 PTB patch notes tagged 12 of them as explicit Reworks. Five named decisions is a small slice of that, which is the single most misread fact about this update.
Which patch is live right now?
As of 6 October 2026 the live build is still 10.1.2a, the hotfix Behaviour shipped on 17 September 2026 to walk back The Judgment's Divine Light curve window. 10.2.0 has not released. The Developer Update closed with a direct promise instead: "Keep an eye out tomorrow for the full set of Patch Notes."
That sentence was published on 5 October, which puts the full 10.2.0 patch notes on 6 October. Note what it does and does not say. It commits to the patch notes, not to the update going live, and Behaviour has not published a 10.2.0 live release date at the time of writing. Treat any site giving you one as a guess.
The PTB itself ran from 15 September 2026 and stayed open roughly six days, in line with Behaviour's usual PTB cadence. The game is not exactly waiting quietly either: Steam's concurrent player count sat at 28,947 on the morning of 6 October 2026, and that is Steam alone, before console.
Shoulder the Burden: what did BHVR change?
This was the loudest complaint of the PTB, and it is the one Behaviour fully conceded.
On the PTB, Shoulder the Burden read like this:
- You become Injured (was Exposed for 60/50/40 seconds)
- You become Broken for 160/140/120 seconds (NEW)
- Shoulder the Burden is deactivated for all Survivors (NEW)
That third line was the problem. Taking a hook state off a tunnelled teammate also switched the perk off for everyone else in the lobby, which is survivable in a four-stack on comms and borderline unplayable in solo queue, where nobody else in the trial knows the perk has already been spent.
The live version removes that line. Behaviour's dev note is unusually plain about why: "We understand your concerns around the impact of the condition of this perk deactivating after one use for all Survivors for solo players who cannot communicate. Therefore, we have removed this limitation."
The Injured and Broken costs stay. You are still paying for the rescue, and it is still a heavy price compared with the Exposed window on the current live version of the perk. What you are no longer doing is paying it on behalf of three other people.
This is Not Happening: why was the Great Skill Check buff cut?
The PTB turned This is Not Happening into a two-part perk:
- Good basic Skill Check zones are 150/175/200% bigger (NEW)
- Great basic Skill Check zones are 30% bigger (was while injured and 10/20/30%)
Reading that in isolation, the Great zone change looks like a straightforward upgrade: it drops the injured-only requirement and flattens the value to 30%. Read it next to Hyperfocus, and it looks like something else entirely. Hyperfocus stacks a token on every Great skill check and pays out escalating bonus progression, so widening the Great window is not a small quality-of-life buff, it is a reliability buff to the fastest gen-rush engine in the game.
Behaviour agreed: "We noticed the concerns about This is Not Happening when combined with Hyperfocus, and as a result have decided to remove the great basic skill check zone."
So on Live, This is Not Happening keeps the enormous Good-zone increase and loses the Great-zone increase. If you were planning a Hyperfocus build around it, that plan is dead. Our best Survivor perks tier list was written against patch 10.1.2 and will need a rework pass once the full notes land.
Dark Arrogance: why doesn't it work on successful hits anymore?
This is the Killer-side correction, and it is the most mechanically interesting one.
The PTB version of Dark Arrogance read:
- You basic-vault Windows 15/20/25% faster
- Your basic-attack recovery is 15/20/25% faster (NEW)
- Whenever you are blinded or Pallet-stunned, the duration is 25% longer (was 15%, per BHVR's own patch-notes baseline)
A faster basic-attack recovery on a successful hit is not a small number. It compresses the gap between landing a hit and resuming the chase, which is the exact window a Survivor uses to reach the next loop. Stack that across a whole match and chases simply end sooner.
Behaviour's note names it directly: "Killers were recovering from attacks – including successful hits – too quickly on the PTB, which ended up making chases feel too short. One of the key culprits of that was Dark Arrogance... it now only affects missed and obstructed attacks."
The practical read: Dark Arrogance is now a whiff-punish perk, not a chase-acceleration perk. You get the recovery when you miss or get blocked, which is when you are already behind, and you still eat the longer blind and pallet-stun penalty on top. It is a far more conditional pick than the PTB made it look.
Is Windows of Opportunity still being reworked?
Yes, and this is the decision that will cost Behaviour the most goodwill.
On the current live build, Windows of Opportunity shows the Auras of every Breakable Wall, Pallet and Window within 24/28/32 metres, with no cooldown at all. The PTB rework cuts that down hard:
- Within 24 metres you see the Auras of Windows
- You vault Windows 10% faster
- Whenever you vault a Window, cooldown 40/35/30 seconds
Pallets and Breakable Walls are gone from the readout, the range no longer scales with tier, and vaulting the thing the perk exists to find switches it off for up to 40 seconds.
Behaviour is keeping all of it: "we do believe that Windows was doing too much and overshadowing other perks, so we will be keeping these changes. We hope that making other Survivor perks more useful will make up for this, even with different activation conditions – such as Dark Sense."
That Dark Sense reference matters. Behaviour's argument is not "Windows is fine", it is "Windows should stop being the default fifth perk in every build", and the compensation is supposed to arrive as buffs elsewhere in the 58-perk pass. Whether that trade lands is the thing to watch in the first week. We broke the rework down in full in our Windows of Opportunity rework guide.
What happened to Borrowed Time?
It is going back in the box.
The PTB rework changed Borrowed Time into a passive mend effect: whenever you gained Deep Wound while you had Endurance, you would passively mend over 40/35/30 seconds. That is a different perk with the same name, and it quietly removed one of the few remaining anti-tunnel tools the base kit offers.
Behaviour reverted it: "We've reverted Borrowed Time back to its Live iteration. While we liked what we explored, we didn't like that we were removing a useful anti-tunnel option, so old Borrowed Time is back."
So Borrowed Time stays as it is today, granting unhooked Survivors extra Endurance and a Haste window. Importantly, this is a revert, not a tweak. Do not describe the Live version as an extension of the PTB version, because they are not the same mechanic.
What is still changing in 10.2.0?
Everything the Developer Update did not mention. The PTB notes are still the best available preview for the other 50-odd perks, including changes like Five Moves Ahead dropping Windows from its Aura readout to show only the five closest Pallets, and Self-Preservation's Elusive window shortening to 13/14/15 seconds from 20/25/30.
Two cautions before you build around any of those numbers:
- Every PTB value is provisional until the live notes publish. The five perks above prove the point.
- The 10.2.0 Developer Update also confirmed the update is a perks-and-features pass, with no new Chapter attached to it. The Survivor Intent System messaging wheel tested on the PTB is part of the same build.
Our full 10.2.0 perk changes breakdown and the earlier 10.2.0 patch notes preview both carry the PTB figures. We are updating them against the live notes as they publish.
What are players actually saying?
The reaction on the main community threads split in a way worth understanding, because it drives a lot of the misinformation currently circulating.
The dominant take is disappointment at the size of the response. One player summed it up as the whole PTB being "basically a waste now with what they decided to change after the fact", and that framing got repeated hard. A second wave pushed back with the correction: only a handful of perks were addressed, out of many more that changed in the PTB, and the update explicitly says more changes are coming.
On Dark Arrogance, the common Killer complaint is that the remaining package is not worth the downside: extra recovery on missed attacks does not pay for a 25% longer blind and pallet-stun duration. There is also a sharp balance argument that a chase-speed nerf of this kind "will only hurt weak killers while the top tier killers that can finish chases within seconds are unaffected", which is the same compression problem that shows up every time basic-attack timing gets touched. If you want the current power ranking, our Killer tier list ranks the full roster.
The most constructive Shoulder the Burden suggestion doing the rounds was to keep the PTB version intact but swap the permanent deactivation for a shared cooldown of 240 to 300 seconds. Behaviour did not take that route, but it is a useful read on what the community actually objected to: not the cost, the permanence.
What to do before the patch drops
A short, boring checklist that will save you Bloodpoints:
- Do not spend Shards or Cells on perks because of a PTB number. Three of them changed in a single update.
- Hold your Hyperfocus plans. The This is Not Happening synergy that made the build look broken has been removed.
- If you run Windows of Opportunity on every Survivor, start learning loops without it now. It is being cut whether the thread likes it or not.
- Expect the notes before the build. Behaviour promised patch notes, not a release.
One more date for the calendar: Behaviour's October trailer put Haunted by Daylight on 13 October 2026, so the Halloween event follows closely behind this update.
FAQ
Is Dead by Daylight 10.2.0 live yet? No. As of 6 October 2026 the live build is 10.1.2a from 17 September 2026. Behaviour has committed to publishing the full 10.2.0 patch notes but has not published a live release date for the update itself.
How many perks are changing in 10.2.0? Behaviour's Developer Update confirmed 58 perks, made up of 27 Killer perks and 31 Survivor perks. Twelve of them carry an explicit Rework tag in the PTB patch notes.
Did BHVR cancel the Windows of Opportunity rework? No. It is the one change Behaviour explicitly said it is keeping as it appeared on the PTB, despite the feedback. Pallets and Breakable Walls leave the Aura readout and vaulting a Window puts the perk on cooldown.
Is Borrowed Time still being changed? No. The PTB rework was reverted and Borrowed Time ships as the version currently on Live. It is a full revert, not a partial one.
Does Shoulder the Burden still deactivate after one use? It still has a single use for you, but it no longer switches off for the other Survivors in your trial. That was the specific condition Behaviour removed in response to solo queue feedback.
Does Dark Arrogance still speed up attack recovery? Only on missed and obstructed attacks. The PTB version also applied to successful hits, and Behaviour removed that because chases were ending too quickly.
Was the 10.2.0 PTB a waste of time? No, and this is the most common misreading of the Developer Update. The update addressed what Behaviour called "the loudest concerns" and explicitly says more changes are coming for the release. The five perks named above are not the complete PTB-to-Live diff.
Where can I read the official source? Behaviour published the Developer Update on 5 October 2026 on its official forums and the Steam news feed. The 10.2.0 PTB patch notes sit in Behaviour's knowledge base as the newest patch-notes article at the time of writing.
