Iron Banner is back in Destiny 2 this week, and r/DestinyTheGame is full of the same questions: which guns are actually in the Bonus Focus Pool, does attunement even work, and why does the event track jump 12% one match and barely move the next? This guide answers all of it for the October 20–27, 2026 Iron Banner.
It's current for Season of Lawless (Season 28) in the Renegades era. Update 9.7.0 "Monument of Triumph" (June 9, 2026) rebuilt Iron Banner loot, and nothing since has changed it: the newest patch, 9.7.0.6 on October 20, is what Bungie calls "the one with just an Eververse fix." So the system below is the one you're playing today.
Quick answer: Iron Banner runs from the October 20 weekly reset to the October 27 reset (17:00 UTC / 10 AM PT). This week's modes are Fortress and Control, and it's a Bonus Focus Pool 1 week: The Forward Path, The Time-Worn Spire, The Wizened Rebuke, Crimil's Dagger, Gunnora's Axe, Felwinter's Lie and Reghusk's Pledge. Grab Lord Saladin's Testament of Strength quest in the Tower first. Then play matches to earn Iron Ciphers and Event Tokens, and win whenever you can, because winning raises your bonus-drop chance. Spend Ciphers at Saladin: 2 Ciphers + 15,000 Glimmer focuses a specific active weapon, and 1 Cipher buys a random weapon engram. Trials of Osiris is off this week and comes back Friday, October 30.

When is Iron Banner in Destiny 2? (2026 schedule)
Since Monument of Triumph, Iron Banner runs one week in every four, reset to reset. Trials of Osiris goes dark that week. The Bonus Focus Pool alternates every event, so you can plan which guns to chase a month ahead. Projected dates per Kyber's Corner's Iron Banner tracker:
| Event week | Bonus Focus Pool | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Oct 20 – Oct 27, 2026 | Pool 1 | Live now (Fortress + Control) |
| Nov 17 – Nov 24, 2026 | Pool 2 | Projected |
| Dec 15 – Dec 22, 2026 | Pool 1 | Projected |
| Jan 12 – Jan 19, 2027 | Pool 2 | Projected |
Every event starts and ends at weekly reset, Tuesday 17:00 UTC. Treat projected weeks as likely, not guaranteed. Bungie is in a reduced-support phase, and Iron Banner weeks have shifted before. Check the Director the Tuesday of.
Game modes rotate between events. The four in the current rotation are Control, Fortress, Tribute and Eruption. This week you get Fortress, where Caiatl drops a high-value central zone at key moments, and classic Control, where holding all three zones triggers The Hunt.
How do you start Iron Banner this week?
Do this before your first match, or you'll throw away progress:
- Visit Lord Saladin in the Tower (or open the Quest tab in the Director) and pick up Testament of Strength.
- Play one Iron Banner match from the Iron Banner node in the Director.
- Claim the first reward on the Event Reward Track in the Event Home.
- Complete and claim one Daily Challenge in the Event Home.
- Return to Lord Saladin to finish the quest.
The Event Home is the hub for the whole week. It holds the Event Reward Track, daily challenges that rotate at reset, one weekly challenge, and the Reward Shop. Most players only notice the daily challenges on day three. Do them every day: they're the cheapest progress in the event.
Which Iron Banner weapons are in Bonus Focus Pool 1?
Bungie split the refreshed Iron Banner arsenal into two pools of seven that alternate. In Bungie's words from the Monument of Triumph Crucible rundown:
"Bonus Focus Pools: These pools will alternate each time Iron Banner is active. Winning gives you a higher chance of earning a bonus drop." — Bungie, This Week in Destiny, May 29, 2026
The October 20–27 event is a Pool 1 week:
| Pool 1 (live Oct 20–27) | Pool 2 (next: Nov 17–24) |
|---|---|
| The Forward Path | Multimach CCX |
| The Time-Worn Spire | Finite Impactor |
| The Wizened Rebuke | Occluded Finality |
| Crimil's Dagger | Lethal Abundance |
| Gunnora's Axe | Pressurized Precision |
| Felwinter's Lie | Point of the Stag |
| Reghusk's Pledge | Roar of the Bear |
Both pools come from Bungie's May 29, 2026 Crucible rundown, and Pool 1 is the first post-Monument rotation. Re-check the featured list in-game each event. Every weapon here is tiered since 9.7.0, so a high-Power Guardian pulls Tier 4–5 copies with more perks and better stats. That's what makes this refresh worth grinding instead of buying the old legacy versions.
For god rolls, use light.gg and filter to the Iron Banner source. Rolls are random, so sort by community popularity instead of trusting one "best roll" list.
How does Iron Banner weapon attunement work (and is it bugged)?
Attunement lets you pick one Iron Banner weapon to weight your playlist drops toward. Since Monument of Triumph you can attune from anywhere: open the attunement screen from your inventory, pick the Iron Banner source, and choose the gun. Drops from MVP and Additional Loot then lean toward it (Bungie's focusing preview).
Here's the catch players are reporting right now. On the first post-Monument Iron Banner, a lot of the community found that attuning to a weapon in the active Bonus Focus Pool didn't seem to raise its drop rate, while attuning to a weapon outside the pool did. One player in this week's attunement thread put it simply: "people found that if you focused a weapon when it was in the current pool, it didn't work." As of October 22, 2026, Bungie hasn't patched or confirmed it (9.7.0.6 only touched Eververse), so treat this as a player report, not official behaviour.
What that means in practice:
- Want a Pool 1 gun? Play and win. Pool 1 weapons already get the bonus drop, so you don't need attunement for them.
- Want a Pool 2 gun this week (Multimach CCX is the usual target)? Attune to it. This is the case players say actually works.
- Want a specific gun right now? Spend Iron Ciphers at Saladin (next section). Focusing guarantees the weapon, not the perks. Rolls are still random, so you may need a few copies for a god roll.
What do Iron Ciphers buy at Lord Saladin?
Since 9.7.0, Iron Banner focusing runs on Iron Ciphers earned from match completions, not reputation resets. Bungie's 9.7.0 notes changed MVP and Additional Loot to drop Iron Banner weapons and moved focusing onto tiered gear. Current Saladin prices:
| What you focus | Cost |
|---|---|
| Specific active Iron Banner weapon | 2 Iron Ciphers + 15,000 Glimmer |
| Specific vendor-exclusive Iron Banner weapon | 1 Iron Cipher + 15,000 Glimmer |
| Iron Banner Weapon Engram (random) | 1 Iron Cipher |
| Iron Banner Armor Engram (random) | 1 Iron Cipher |
| Specific focused armor piece | 2 Iron Ciphers + 15,000 Glimmer |
| Legacy (untiered) weapon | 25,000 Glimmer + 3 Enhancement Cores |
| Legacy armor | 15,000 Glimmer + 3 Enhancement Cores |
Our take: don't spend Glimmer and Cores on legacy weapons. They have no tiers, so a Tier 5 drop beats them on every stat. Short on Glimmer? Our Destiny 2 Glimmer farm gets you 15,000 in a few minutes. For Cores, see how to get Enhancement Cores.
Known issue (as listed at the time of writing): Bungie lists a bug where players who never unlocked the Iron Panoply armor set can't obtain or focus it from Saladin. If it's missing from your vendor screen, it's not your account. It's on Bungie's known-issues list with a fix promised "in a future update."
What's in the Iron Banner Reward Shop?
The Reward Shop in the Event Home runs on Event Tokens from matches and challenges. Prices as shown in the shop at Monument of Triumph launch:
| Item | Event Tokens |
|---|---|
| Iron Banner Weapon Engram (up to Tier 5, stock 10) | 50 |
| Iron Banner Armor Engram | 50 |
| Enhancement Prism | 50 |
| Enhancement Core | 35 |
| Ascendant Shard | 200 |
| Exotic Cipher | 200 |
The engram tooltip is the important part: "The reward tier is based on your Power (max. reward tier: 5)." If you open engrams at low Power, you get low-tier weapons. Hit the 550 cap, or as close as you can, before cashing tokens in. Our power leveling guide covers the fastest route.
Engrams are the best everyday spend. If you already own the guns you want, buy the Ascendant Shard and Exotic Cipher. Both are slow to earn anywhere else (see how to get Ascendant Shards and how to get Exotic Ciphers).
Is the Iron Battalion armor worth farming?
Yes, if you play primaries. Iron Battalion is the Iron Banner armor set added in Monument of Triumph, one per class, with two set bonuses:
- 2-piece, Primary Honing: faster handling and reload on all Primary ammo weapons, plus bonus Primary damage against non-boss combatants that scales with your Weapons stat.
- 4-piece, Supercyclical: final blows while your Super is active refund Super energy when it ends.
The 2-piece is the reason to farm. With 9.7.0 also giving Exotic primaries +40% damage against minors, Primary Honing is real add-clear value in PvE, not just a Crucible perk. Focus individual pieces at 2 Ciphers each once you know which slots you need.

What's the fastest way to farm Iron Banner?
Iron Banner is one week long, so efficiency matters more than hours played. In order of value:
- Win. Winning raises your bonus weapon drop chance, and players tracking the event track report roughly 12% per win vs about 6% per loss.
- Clear daily challenges every day. They reset daily and pay more than an average match.
- Play the objective. Points from objectives count toward the Orewing's Spirit triumph (100 / 200 / 300) and help you win in Fortress and Control. In Fortress, the high-value center zone decides most games.
- Wear Iron Banner armor. The legacy Jorum's Howl triumph gives extra progress for each Iron Banner piece equipped.
- Save Ciphers for focusing. Two Ciphers (plus 15,000 Glimmer) lock in the exact weapon you want. The same two Ciphers spent on random engrams give you two shots across the whole pool.
Your weekly target: hit 26 matches (the Pack Hunting triumph) and finish 15 Event Rank Track steps (Track Alpha). Those two numbers are Bungie's own yardstick for a full Iron Banner week, and each match along the way pays out Iron Ciphers for focusing.
How do you get the Iron Lord title?
The Iron Lord title comes from Iron Banner triumphs. The current-event core set:
| Triumph | Objective |
|---|---|
| Orewing's Spirit | 100 / 200 / 300 objective points |
| Plaintive Howl | Defeat 85 / 170 / 255 Guardians |
| Pack Hunting | Complete 26 matches |
| Track Alpha | Complete 15 Event Rank Track steps |
To gild it, you need More to Score (200 points), Gilded Gliding (10 wins), High Marks (12 B+ performance grades) and Just a Pinch (150 Guardian defeats, with precision final blows counting extra). Legacy triumphs like Jolder's Victory and Orimund's Taste track across all Iron Banners. They don't block the title if you started late.
Does Power matter in Iron Banner?
Not for fighting: Power advantages are off in the playlist. Per Bungie's Crucible playlist breakdown, Iron Banner Control uses Outlier Protection matchmaking (with an Open Skill fallback on long queues), while Iron Banner Quickplay uses Open Skill.
For loot, two different rules apply. Match drops in Crucible Ops are tiered by your performance grade: a C grade gives Tier 3, B gives Tier 4, and A or better gives Tier 5 (Update 9.7.0 notes). Reward Shop engrams are tiered by your Power, up to Tier 5. So play the objective for match loot, and get your Power up before you open shop engrams.

FAQ
Is Iron Banner live in Destiny 2 right now? Yes. It runs from the October 20, 2026 weekly reset to the October 27 reset at 17:00 UTC, with Fortress and Control, and it's a Bonus Focus Pool 1 week.
When is the next Iron Banner after this one? The four-week cadence puts the next event at November 17–24, 2026 with Bonus Focus Pool 2, then December 15–22 with Pool 1. Confirm in the Director on the day, because Bungie can shift weeks.
Does weapon attunement work for weapons in the current focus pool? Some players report that attuning to a gun already in the active Bonus Focus Pool doesn't noticeably raise its drop rate. Bungie hasn't confirmed this as of October 22, 2026. If you test it, attuning to a Pool 2 weapon this week costs you nothing, because Pool 1 guns already get the bonus drop.
How do I get Iron Ciphers? Iron Ciphers come from completing Iron Banner matches. Spend them at Lord Saladin: 2 Ciphers + 15,000 Glimmer focuses a specific active weapon, and 1 Cipher buys a random weapon or armor engram.
Why isn't the Iron Panoply armor at Saladin? It's a known issue. Players who never unlocked the Iron Panoply set can't obtain or focus it, and Bungie says a future update will fix it.
Is Trials of Osiris on during Iron Banner? No. Trials is off during Iron Banner weeks and returns the following Friday, which is October 30, 2026 this time.
