Vesper's Host is still one of the best-value dungeons in Destiny 2 — it's the only place to earn the returning Ice Breaker Exotic sniper, and since the Monument of Triumph update (9.7.0) it drops tiered gear you can farm on rotation. This guide walks through all three encounters, the complete loot table, and exactly how the Ice Breaker drops, using the mechanics as they work in the live game right now.
Quick answer: Vesper's Host is a 3-player dungeon set aboard a derelict Clovis Bray research station orbiting Europa. You clear three encounters — Activation, Raneiks Unified, and the Corrupted Puppeteer (Atraks-1) — using the Scanner, Operator, and Suppressor augments and depositing nuclear cores, all while a radiation/contamination timer ticks. The final boss can drop the Ice Breaker Exotic Solar sniper as a random reward. Since Update 9.7.0 the dungeon awards Tier 3–5 gear (Tier 5 when it's the Featured Dungeon), so it's fully farmable in Destiny's maintenance-mode era.

What is Vesper's Host and is it worth running in 2026?
Vesper's Host launched on October 11, 2024 during Episode: Revenant, set inside Vesper Station — an abandoned Braytech/Clovis Bray facility drifting above Europa that has been overrun and "puppeteered" by a corrupted intelligence. It reuses the Deep Stone Crypt augment system (Scanner, Operator, Suppressor), so if you've run that raid the core loop will feel familiar.
Three reasons it's still worth your time this far into Destiny 2's life:
- Ice Breaker — a fan-favourite Destiny 1 Exotic sniper that only exists here. No Ice Breaker anywhere else in the game.
- Tiered loot (post-9.7.0). Dungeons now roll Tier 3–5 gear. When Vesper's Host is the weekly Featured Dungeon, its weapons and the Spacewalk armor set can drop at Tier 5 — the top gear tier — making it a real farm, not a one-and-done.
- Strong weapon pool. The four VS weapons all carry the dungeon's Nanotech Tracer Rockets origin trait, and several (VS Pyroelectric Propellant, VS Chill Inhibitor) are still considered meta-tier in their slots.
Destiny 2 is in maintenance mode as of the final major update (Monument of Triumph, June 9, 2026) — there are no new seasons coming, but every activity, including Vesper's Host, stays online and farmable indefinitely. That actually makes evergreen dungeon chases more relevant, not less: this loot isn't going anywhere.
Access: you need to own the Vesper's Host dungeon (it originally came with the Episode: Revenant dungeon key / the annual dungeon pass). Launch it from the Europa map node in the Director.
The augment system you need to understand first
Every encounter runs on the same three buffs, picked up from terminals in the arena:
- Scanner — lets you see which panels/objects are the correct ones (they glow or show numbers only you can read).
- Operator — lets you interact with and shoot open the panels the Scanner identified, and disable barriers.
- Suppressor — used to shut down hazards and place decoys during the boss fights.
The recurring objective across the dungeon is: use Scanner to read the correct panels → use Operator to activate them → this drops nuclear cores → carry the cores back and deposit them to trigger damage or open the next area. Buffs have timers and pass between players, so communication ("I've got Operator, which panel?") is the whole game here.
Encounter 1: Activation
The opening encounter is a puzzle, not a boss. Your goal is to power the station back up.
How it works:
- Split roles — one player grabs Scanner, one grabs Operator.
- The Scanner reads the numbered panels on the walls and ceiling and calls them out.
- The Operator shoots/activates the correct panels in the called order.
- Doing this correctly makes an augment terminal or a nuclear core appear. Grab the core and deposit it at the central point.
- Repeat until the room is fully powered and the door opens.
Watch the contamination/radiation stacks — standing in irradiated zones or holding a core too long builds a debuff that will eventually kill you. Cleanse by moving to clean air / depositing the core.
Loot: the Activation encounter drops two of the Legendary weapons and early pieces of the Spacewalk armor set.
After this you'll hit a short zero-gravity traversal section — jump across the exposed, exploding exterior of the station toward the first boss. Take it slow; falling into the void is an instant death.
Encounter 2: Raneiks Unified (first boss)
Raneiks Unified is a single boss made of many fused Fallen Servitors — think of it as one health bar spread across a swarm. The fight is all about splitting the Servitor and then focusing damage.
The loop:
- Use Scanner to identify the correct panels and Operator to shoot them open — this destabilises the unified Servitor.
- As you break panels, individual Servitors detach from the mass. Depositing nuclear cores into the correct receptacles splits Raneiks further and starts the damage window.
- During damage phase, focus the exposed core. Raneiks has damage-reduction stacking the more Servitors remain, so the split is what actually lets your DPS land.
- Repeat the panel → core → split → damage loop until it's dead.
DPS tip: the community's go-to here has been high-uptime burst — Solar Titans and any strong Special/Heavy loadout perform well. Don't waste your damage phase; a poorly-split Raneiks eats your whole burst thanks to its stacking DR.
Encounter 3: The Corrupted Puppeteer (Atraks-1)
The final boss is Atraks-1, the Corrupted Puppeteer — the same Fallen Exo from the Deep Stone Crypt raid, now warped and tearing Vesper Station apart around you. This is where Ice Breaker can drop.
The mechanic (white panels + puppets):
- Atraks deploys glowing puppets and covers the arena in white panels.
- Use Scanner/Operator to shoot the white panels. Clearing them makes the puppets vulnerable and reveals which one is the correct puppet (it stays glowing / carries a nuclear core).
- Kill the correct puppet — it drops a nuclear core.
- Carry the core to the deposit point and bank it. Banking a core triggers the damage phase.
- Damage Atraks, then reset and repeat. Expect roughly four cycles/damage phases to finish her; you need to land the kill on the final phase or the wipe mechanic goes off.
The wipe timer: when you see the pop-up "Corrupted Puppeteer communes with the Anomaly," you have only a few seconds before an explosion wipes the fireteam. Deposit cores promptly and don't over-greed damage.
Clear Atraks and you get your end-of-dungeon reward roll — and the chance at Ice Breaker.

All four VS weapons share the dungeon origin trait Nanotech Tracer Rockets (scoring multiple hits within a few seconds fires a tracking rocket that matches the weapon's element).
| Reward | Type | Element | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ice Breaker | Sniper Rifle (Exotic) | Solar | Random drop from the final boss only |
| VS Chill Inhibitor | Heavy Grenade Launcher | Stasis | Drops from every encounter — easiest to farm |
| VS Gravitic Arrest | Fusion Rifle (Adaptive) | Void | |
| VS Velocity Baton | Special Grenade Launcher (Area Denial) | Void | Attrition Orbs — strong add-clear / support GL |
| VS Pyroelectric Propellant | Auto Rifle (600 RPM Adaptive) | Arc | Still a meta-tier Arc auto |
| Spacewalk armor set | Armor (all classes) | — | Artifice version drops on Master difficulty |
| VS Tech Sledge | Exotic Sparrow | — | Complete the Stationmaster Triumph |
Note: VS Chill Inhibitor drops from every encounter, but the other three Legendaries each come from only two of the encounters — so target-farm the encounter that drops the roll you want rather than full clears.
How to get Ice Breaker in Destiny 2
Ice Breaker is a rare, RNG drop from the final boss (the Corrupted Puppeteer) — there is no guaranteed quest. It can only drop after you defeat Atraks-1.
Here's how to maximise your chances:
- Run it weekly on all three characters. Each character gets its own end-of-dungeon reward per week, so three characters = three rolls at Ice Breaker every week.
- Complete the Vesper's Host Triumphs / Seal. Several dungeon Triumphs increase the Ice Breaker drop chance once completed — knock these out early so every subsequent run has the boosted rate.
- Master difficulty doesn't guarantee it, but master clears roll higher-tier gear and are worth doing for the Triumphs and Artifice armor.
- Be patient — it's genuine RNG. Players report wildly different luck; some see it in a handful of runs, others report 100+ completions without a drop. Doing the Triumphs first is the single best thing you can do to tilt the odds.
Once you have it, the Exotic perk makes the grind worth it. Per its in-game description:
"Defeating a target with this weapon causes them to explode. Precision final blows or shattering a frozen target instead triggers an ignition."
On top of that, Ice Breaker regenerates its own ammo — roughly one round every six seconds — but it starts empty on spawn, can't use Special ammo pickups, and can't carry more than a magazine's worth. It's a Solar Special sniper that rewards patient, precise play and pairs beautifully with Stasis freeze builds for on-demand ignitions. Chase its Catalyst afterward for the fully upgraded version.
Should you run Vesper's Host solo?
Yes — it's soloable, and there's a Solo Flawless Triumph (plus an exclusive emblem) for the confident. Solo runs are slower because you're juggling all three augments yourself and there's no revive backup, but the mechanics don't scale up in complexity. If you mainly want Ice Breaker, a coordinated three-player farm is far faster for stacking weekly rolls across characters. Save the Solo Flawless attempt for after you know the boss cycles cold.
Beat Vesper's Host and farm Ice Breaker faster
Vesper's Host is very doable, but the Ice Breaker RNG and Solo Flawless run can eat a lot of hours. If you'd rather skip straight to the loot, our pro fireteams clear it fast and farm the boss for your weekly rolls:

Frequently Asked Questions
Where is the Vesper's Host dungeon located? It's aboard Vesper Station, a derelict Clovis Bray research facility orbiting Europa. Launch it from the Europa node in the Director once you own the dungeon (it came with the Episode: Revenant dungeon key / annual dungeon pass).
How many encounters does Vesper's Host have? Three: Activation (a puzzle/augment encounter), Raneiks Unified (the first boss — a swarm of fused Fallen Servitors), and the Corrupted Puppeteer / Atraks-1 (the final boss). Short zero-gravity traversal sections connect them.
How do you get Ice Breaker in Vesper's Host? Ice Breaker is a random drop from the final boss — there's no quest. Defeat the Corrupted Puppeteer, run the dungeon weekly on all three characters for more rolls, and complete the Vesper's Host Triumphs that increase its drop chance. It's pure RNG, so the Triumph boosts matter.
Can you farm Vesper's Host loot? Yes. Since Update 9.7.0 dungeons award tiered gear (Tier 3–5), and when Vesper's Host is the weekly Featured Dungeon its weapons and the Spacewalk armor can drop at Tier 5. Encounters are farmable for the weapons that drop from them, and VS Chill Inhibitor drops from every encounter.
Is Vesper's Host soloable? Yes, and there's a Solo Flawless Triumph with an exclusive emblem. It's harder solo because you manage all three augments alone with no revives, but the mechanics are the same. For fast Ice Breaker farming, a three-player team is more efficient.
Are there still new Destiny 2 seasons after this? No. Monument of Triumph (Update 9.7.0, June 9, 2026) was Destiny 2's final major update, and the game is now in maintenance mode — all content, including Vesper's Host, stays online and farmable, but there are no new paid seasons or expansions coming.
