Diablo 4 Season 16 PTR (3.3.0): Dates, How to Join & Biggest Changes

The Diablo 4 Season 16 PTR (patch 3.3.0) opens on October 27, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. PDT and closes on November 3 at 10:00 a.m. PST. It is PC-only and free for any Diablo 4 account on Battle.net. Blizzard posted the preview and full PTR patch notes on October 22. The big pieces are a War Plans overhaul (War Plans Tactics, Marks of Wisdom, and a seasonal tree called Tyrael's Boons), new Horadric Items that tie your gear to Talisman set bonuses, and a two-boss lair fight where the Fractured Reaper teams up with the Corrupted Reaper.

Below: the exact test window, how to install the PTR, what each new system does, the class changes worth paying attention to, and what to do in Season 15 while the test runs.

Quick answer: what's in the Diablo 4 3.3.0 PTR?

  • When: October 27, 10:00 a.m. PDT to November 3, 10:00 a.m. PST (2026). That's seven calendar days, or 169 hours, because US daylight saving time ends mid-test.
  • Where: PC only, through Battle.net (Game Pass PC players also go through Battle.net). Make a Seasonal character to test the Season 16 systems.
  • War Plans Tactics: a new meta-progression tree. You get up to 3 points per node to make your preferred activities and rewards show up more often in War Plans. It works on Eternal and Seasonal.
  • Marks of Wisdom: a new currency you get for turning in War Plans. It replaces gold for respeccing War Plans nodes (capped at 20 on the PTR).
  • Tyrael's Boons: a Season 16 War Plans tree with 4 paths and up to 132 points. Respeccing costs 5,000,000 gold per point. You don't need Lord of Hatred to use it.
  • Horadric Items: Legendary jewelry with a Horadric affix adds +1 to a Talisman set count. Armor and weapons add effects once you have at least a 2-piece set bonus active.
  • New boss fight: the Fractured Reaper and Corrupted Reaper fight you together.
  • Season 16 release date: not announced. Blizzard says more on returning Season 15 features is coming "next week."

When does the Season 16 PTR start and end?

According to Blizzard's official 3.3.0 PTR: What You Need to Know post, the test runs from October 27, 10:00 a.m. PDT to November 3, 10:00 a.m. PST. The time zone label changes because US daylight saving time ends on November 1, partway through the test. The patch notes are labeled 3.3.0 PTR Build #99999 (PC Only).

Blizzard hasn't given a launch date for Season 16 yet. The Season 15 PTR ran August 4 to 11, and Season 15 went live on September 15, about five weeks later. That cadence points to roughly early-to-mid December for Season 16, but it's an estimate and not a confirmed date. Blizzard also said this test only covers new features: "some features from the Season of Hell's Legacy will be carrying forward into Season 16. However, these will not be part of this PTR."

How do you join the Diablo 4 PTR?

These are Blizzard's own steps:

  • Open the Battle.net app and select Diablo IV.
  • In the game-version dropdown above the Play button, pick Public Test Realm.
  • Click Install. It changes to Play when the download finishes.
  • Log in, pick any test server, and create a new character. Make it Seasonal if you want to test Tyrael's Boons and Horadric Items.
  • Find Mrak, the PTR vendor, next to the main Waypoint in any major city.

Mrak's boosts cover nearly everything. You can set your level to 70 and Paragon to 200, unlock all Torment tiers, get all Runes, Uniques, Glyphs, and Talisman items, max Tyrael's Boons, and unlock and max War Plans (which drops 3 Marks of El'druin and 20 Marks of Wisdom). Helms need character level 7 and amulets need level 15 before the boost gives them, so level a little first.

What is War Plans Tactics?

War Plans Tactics is the biggest change for players who stick with one character. It's a meta-progression tree that adjusts what your War Plans offer you. You earn points by completing War Plans activities, then spend them on nodes.

Diablo 4 3.3.0 PTR War Plan Tactics tree with the Greater Helltide node selected

  • Activity nodes: up to 3 points each make that activity show up in your War Plans more often than other types. Putting at least 1 point into Helltides or Nightmare Dungeons unlocks a choice to also raise the odds of Greater Helltides or Escalation Dungeons.
  • Reward nodes: up to 3 points each in 10 reward types: Armor, Weapons, Jewelry, Obducite, Salvage, Gems, Gold, Activity Keys, Horadric Cube Materials, and Talisman Items.
  • Both realms: Tactics is available on Seasonal and Eternal.

Respeccing is the other half of the change. When you turn in completed War Plans you get Marks of Wisdom, and you spend those instead of gold to move points in both the Tactics tree and each Activity tree. Marks are capped at 20 on the PTR. If you've been paying gold to respec activity trees every session, this cuts down on it. For how War Plans reputation works right now, see our Season 15 War Plans reputation guide.

What are Tyrael's Boons in Season 16?

Tyrael's Boons is a War Plans tree tied to the season. It changes every season, and all Seasonal players can use it, with or without the Lord of Hatred expansion. You can earn up to 132 points, which Blizzard says is "enough to choose up to 4 of 6 available selections within the four available paths."

Diablo 4 Season 16 Tyrael's Boons tree showing the Stuff of Legends perk on the 3.3.0 PTR

PathWhat it doesWho it's for
Curious AdditionBetter chance of a second item from the Purveyor of Curiosities, new item types, or higher quality. Optional: much higher prices for better Ancestral oddsObol spenders hunting Ancestrals
Merchant of MysteryNew Torment merchant who sells caches for Forgotten Souls. Invest for more Ancestral Caches, or buy caches with Runes/GemsPlayers sitting on Souls, Runes, and Gems
Scent of GoldMore gold and XP. One branch adds Cube materials and Gem Fragments, the other adds Gold/Gem drops. Also a better Legendary chanceLeveling and gold farming
Trash for TreasureCheaper Alchemist transmutes, more Forgotten Souls, more Obducite and Scrolls of Restoration. Ends with the Greater Temper Cube recipeEndgame gear crafters

The most interesting node is at the end of Trash for Treasure. Greater Temper turns the Tempered Affix on an item into a Greater Affix for 30 Scrolls of Restoration and 1,000 Obducite. If that survives the PTR, it's a new way to perfect a top-end item, so the Obducite and Scroll farming routes get a lot more valuable.

Mistakes are expensive to fix. Unassigning a Tyrael's Boons point costs 5,000,000 gold, so a full respec of 132 points would be a big chunk of most players' gold. Seasonal Blessings aren't going away either. They become a fixed set of the same five Blessings every season, and Tyrael's Boons sits on top of them.

How do Horadric Items work?

Horadric Items arrive through the Death Cult of Ullo Sar. They're Legendary items with a Horadric affix that links to one specific Talisman set. If you've built around Set Charms in Season 15 (our Set Charms farm guide covers the current loop), this is the system to watch.

Three Ancestral Horadric Legendary items from the Diablo 4 3.3.0 PTR, including a ring with +1 Set count

  • Jewelry (rings and amulets): adds +1 to the set count of its Talisman set. Unlike Seal of the Diamond Mind, you only need 1 charm equipped to get the 2-piece bonus when you pair it with the matching Horadric jewelry.
  • Armor and weapons: add new effects once you have at least a 2-piece bonus from the listed set, such as skill ranks, bonus damage, or extra defense.

In practice, you can reach big set breakpoints with fewer charms and use the freed slots for a second set bonus. One of Blizzard's preview items, Hoop of Fathomless Dark, shows "+1 Set count to Rite of the Nameless." On the PTR, Mrak's Grant Seasonal Items boost hands these out, so you don't need to farm them to test.

Who is the Fractured Reaper?

The Corrupted Reaper was the Season of Death Awakening lair boss. In Season 16, the Fractured Reaper joins her, and they fight you as one encounter. Blizzard describes it as "two eldritch powerhouses working together synergistically, abilities combining to annihilate all but the most powerful challengers," and adds that "the loot will be epic … but you'll have to earn it." The preview says the season also includes reworked Infernal Hordes, Pit, and Lair Boss activities, but the PTR post doesn't give numbers for those yet.

Which class changes matter most on the 3.3.0 PTR?

All eight classes get changes (full list in Blizzard's 3.3.0 PTR patch notes). These are the ones that will shift the Season 16 meta (all values are PTR values and may change):

ClassHeadline change
DruidSkills no longer gain Nature Magic or Shapeshifting tags from upgrades or variants. Resolve and Fortify split between Earth and Werebear. Paragon nodes reworked (e.g. Survival Instincts: Werebear now gets 50% more damage and 25% damage reduction)
BarbarianDouble Swing 75% → 150% per swing. Ambidextrous Glyph 8% → 15%[x]. Talisman seal affixes switched to flat multipliers
NecromancerBone Spear and Blood Lance 160% → 175%. Blood Orb healing 15% → 10%. Mortacrux reworked into an Ultimate-Core-Skill item
PaladinAura Potency now scales with Skill Ranks, a large buff (some sources trimmed to compensate). Zealot Oath 35% → 45% plus 15% DR at max Fervor
RogueOrphan Maker 80–100% → 150–180%[x]. Shadow Imbuement now stacks instead of refreshing. Ferocity upgrades cut to 4%
SorcererIncinerate rebuilt around Intensity. Meteor's cooldown upgrade drops it from 15s to 10s. Living Bomb 106% → 225%
SpiritbornStinger 140% → 125% (nerf). Razor Wings 120% → 160% and gains charges from Focus/Ultimate casts
WarlockBlazing Scream base 130% → 115%. Apocalypse Annihilation max stacks 100 → 200 but 40% → 20% per stack. Overmind node: Abyss Skills now deal 120% more to CC'd enemies, +100% vs Elites

Blizzard's developer note on Druid states the goal: "The primary goal for Druid in Season 16 is to address tag stacking. We want to reduce Druid's ability to stack tags and their reliance on them, so builds that pick only one tag can still benefit from 4 legendary boards."

There are also item changes that every class will notice. Banished Lord's Talisman crit damage drops from 130–150% to 80–100%[x], which is a real nerf to a common pick. Moonrise Aspect goes up from 40–60% to 60–80%[x], and Thundergod's Blessing from 250–300% to 300–350%[x]. Temerity's barrier now lasts 4 seconds instead of 8. Signet of Pelghain is limited to Necromancer, Sorcerer, and Rogue.

What changes for Helltides, runes, and mounts?

  • Helltides on a fixed clock: base-game zones start on the hour and expansion zones on the :30 mark, so a base-game Helltide is always running.
  • Aberrant Cinders no longer reset between Helltides, so a partial bag no longer expires when the event ends. (Today's routes are in our Season 15 Helltide guide.)
  • Runes: Que now needs 500 Offering instead of 300 to activate, and Lac 600 instead of 400. Offering is built up by the Ritual Rune's condition, so Runewords using Que or Lac will trigger less often. See our Season 15 Runewords guide for the current recipes.
  • Mounts: faster base speed, but spurring adds less, so top speed is only slightly higher.
  • Bug fixes: base Block Damage Reduction was higher than intended and is now fixed. Some Season of Death Awakening appearances that didn't carry over are restored.

What should you do in Season 15 before Season 16?

The PTR is a preview. Season 15 is still the live season, and nothing you do on the test server carries over. Here's what's worth doing now:

  • Plan your Season 16 gold early. Your Season 15 gold doesn't follow you to a fresh Season 16 character, and a Tyrael's Boons respec costs 5M per point. Pick your Boons path on the PTR so you don't pay to fix it on the live server. Our Season 15 gold farm guide covers the routes that will matter again at the start of the season.
  • Re-test Que and Lac Runewords. Their Offering thresholds go up in 3.3.0, so check on the PTR how much less often your Runeword fires.
  • Finish the Season Journey and battle pass. Those rewards belong to Season 15. Claim what you still want before the reset.
  • Test your main on the PTR. If you play Druid, Warlock (Blazing Scream), or Spiritborn (Stinger), take your build to the PTR. The tag and number changes are big enough that your Season 16 starter might need to change.
