Destined for Glory has been the whole launch window of EA SPORTS FC 27, and it closes this Friday — before its own upgrade mechanic has had a chance to fire. Europe's domestic leagues were shut down for an international window that ran across most of the promo, so the first proper upgrade weekend starts 10 October, the day after Destined for Glory leaves.

Published: 7 October 2026. Current phase: FC 27 Season 1, which runs 17 September - 22 October 2026, with the Destined for Glory campaign closing 9 October.

Quick answer: The Destined for Glory campaign runs 25 September - 9 October 2026, so Friday is the last day of its objectives, Exhibition attempts and pack presence. The cards themselves keep upgrading all season — EA's rule is 10 combined goals and assists for +1 OVR on attackers, 6 clean sheets for defenders — but the 21 September - 6 October international break meant the Premier League did not play a single matchweek inside the promo. Matchweek 6 begins 10 October. If your card is a nailed-on starter at a club with a kind run of fixtures, hold past the weekend. If it is an attacker you only own as fodder or a squad filler, sell into the Friday promo-exit window.

The short version of everything below:

  • Campaign window: 25 September - 9 October 2026. Season 1 itself runs to 22 October.
  • Upgrade triggers are per-position milestones: 3, 6, 10 and 20 combined goals and assists for attackers; 2, 4, 6 and 10 clean sheets for defenders and holding midfielders.
  • Upgrades count domestic league matches only, tracked on Opta data, for the whole 2026/27 season.
  • The international break ran 21 September - 6 October 2026. The Premier League's last round before it was Matchweek 5 on 20 September; Matchweek 6 begins 10 October.
  • One EA clause does the most damage to a hold: a Destined for Glory player who leaves their club stops being eligible for upgrades entirely.

When exactly does FC 27 Destined for Glory end?

EA dated the campaign itself in the FC 27 Ratings Pitch Notes: "The campaign runs from 25 September - 9 October, 2026." (EA SPORTS FC 27 Ratings Pitch Notes). That is a two-week window bolted onto the front of Season 1, which started with Ones to Watch on 17 September and ends 22 October 2026.

What stops on Friday is the campaign furniture rather than the cards: the Destined for Glory Exhibition long-range objective with its 10 daily attempts, the first Ultimate Gauntlet that ran in week two across two rounds, the campaign's two Rush events, and the free Evolutions released across the fortnight — one Training Camp Evo per week plus the Regular and Premium Badge cosmetic Evos.

On the long-standing FUT pattern — EA has not published a pack-exit statement for this campaign — promo items stop appearing in packs when the campaign closes and the next squad takes the slot. That is the supply event that matters for prices, not the upgrade mechanic.

The cards do not expire. EA is explicit that the upgrade window is the full football season: "Destined for Glory Player Items can earn upgrades throughout the entire football season starting from September 25, based on real-world performances in their domestic league" (EA, Destined for Glory FAQ). So this is a decision about supply and timing, not about a card going dead on Friday. We mapped the first version of this decision back in early access in the FC 27 sell-or-hold market crash timeline; the same logic applies, with two weeks more data.

How do Destined for Glory upgrades actually trigger?

Per position group, on hard milestone counts. EA published both tables in its Destined for Glory article.

For attacking roles — CM, CAM, LW, LM, RW, RM and ST — the metric is combined goals and assists:

Combined goals and assistsUpgrade
3+1 Shooting and Passing
6+1 PlayStyle
10+1 OVR
20+1 OVR

For defensive roles — RB, LB, CB and CDM — the metric is clean sheets:

Clean sheetsUpgrade
2+1 Defending and Physical
4+1 PlayStyle
6+1 OVR
10+1 OVR

Three details decide whether a card is a hold. League matches only: EA's FAQ states the items "will only be upgraded based on league performances in the 2026/27 domestic season", so cup runs, continental football and internationals contribute nothing. Opta data, combined: goals and assists are pooled from Opta's feed, so a creative winger and a poacher reach 10 at the same rate. Clean sheets need minutes: EA's FAQ awards one only if "the player featured in the match by either starting the game or by being subbed in", so a rotated centre-back banks nothing from the bench.

And then the clause that should make you nervous about holding anyone whose situation is unstable. In EA's own words: "If a Destined for Glory player leaves their current club, they will no longer be eligible for upgrades." A January transfer does not reduce the upgrades already earned, but it ends the path. That is a real risk on anyone linked with a winter move, and it is unhedgeable.

Why have so few Destined for Glory cards upgraded yet?

Because the football stopped. This is the part of the market that is mispriced.

The September and October windows were merged into one extended international break for 2026-27, running 21 September - 6 October 2026. The Premier League's own announcement is unambiguous: it "will play up to the end of Matchweek 5 on 20 September, then pause, before Matchweek 6 recommences on 10 October" (premierleague.com). Europe's other big leagues paused across broadly the same stretch, and they do not all come back together: the Bundesliga restarts on Friday 9 October with Borussia Dortmund against Werder Bremen, the same day the campaign closes, while the Premier League waits until the 10th.

Line that up against the campaign. Team 1 went live on 25 September with no Premier League football scheduled; the international window ran to 6 October, producing qualifier and friendly goals that count for nothing here; the campaign ends 9 October; and Matchweek 6 begins 10 October, the first full league round where a Premier League Destined for Glory card can bank goals, assists or a clean sheet.

So for the English contingent the entire promo has been a dead zone on the upgrade tracker. Cards in leagues that kept playing through parts of the window are further along, which is why you should check your specific player rather than treat "Destined for Glory" as one asset class. Our per-player breakdowns are in the Team 1 upgrade paths for all 15 players and the Team 2 cards including the Haaland path.

The practical consequence: the market has had two weeks to price these cards as if the upgrade mechanic were theoretical. The weekend after the promo exits is the first time it stops being theoretical. Attackers at 3 goals and assists can land a +1 Shooting and Passing bump inside one matchweek; the 10-milestone +1 OVR is a multi-month hold on anything but an elite starter.

Is Future Stars Team 1 really dropping on October 9?

Treat it as a leak, because that is all it is so far.

EA has confirmed Future Stars as part of the Season 1 theme — it sits alongside Ones to Watch and Destined for Glory in the Season 1 Combined Rarities Gallery Set — but EA has not announced a date, a roster or a single rating. Community trackers and leak accounts are reporting a 15-player Team 1 on 9 October at 6pm BST / 10am PT, with live upgrades of its own and a Team 2 the following week. Fifteen players is at least consistent with EA's stated structure, which releases Campaign Squads in batches of 15.

Why it matters even unconfirmed: a new promo squad entering packs is the most reliable downward pressure on the outgoing one, because fresh cards take the pack slot, the attention and the coins. If that drop lands on Friday, the Destined for Glory exit and the Future Stars entry happen in the same few hours.

Community reaction to the leak has been lukewarm rather than hyped — the recurring complaint, paraphrased from launch-window discussion, is that moving Future Stars into the second promo slot with a roster of unfamiliar youngsters makes it feel less like an event, and pack-luck frustration is already high this early in the cycle. That matters for your sell decision: a promo the community is cool on pulls fewer coins out of the outgoing market than a hype drop would.

So should you sell or hold your Destined for Glory cards?

Four cases, in order of how often they come up.

1. Elite starter, settled at a big club, attacking role: hold. The 10-milestone +1 OVR is reachable over a season for a genuine 20-goal contributor, and the 3-milestone face-stat bump should arrive within a couple of matchweeks now the leagues are back. The upgrade path is also a price floor most special cards do not have.

2. Rotation player or anyone linked with a move: sell. This is where EA's transfer clause bites, and rotation risk hits the clean-sheet milestones hardest because bench minutes bank nothing.

3. Defender or CDM at a leaky club: sell. Six clean sheets for +1 OVR is brutal at a side that concedes most weeks. Three or four over a season is realistic, which gets you +1 Defending and Physical plus a PlayStyle, not a rating.

4. You own it as fodder: sell on Friday, not after. Its value to you is the market price, and the predictable sequence is a promo-exit pop followed by a drift down as the next squad takes the attention.

The backdrop is unusual this year. EA's launch dev notes acknowledged coin balances running well above FC 26's — a match returned roughly 500-600 coins in FC 26, where FC 27's Rivals and Champions payouts are several times that, and Division 1 upgraded Rivals rewards include 95,000 coins a week (the full knock-on effects). More coins chasing a fixed pool of promo cards props prices up — an argument for not panic-selling a good card, and a strong argument for selling a bad one while the floor is inflated.

One thing you do not lose by selling: Gallery credit. Items stay in your Gallery history after they leave your Club, so a card already logged into a Set keeps counting — check the Gallery eligibility rules before listing anything you were saving for a Set grade. And never quick sell one: this year's Quick Sell values are aligned to the previous Rare values.

What should you finish before the campaign closes on Friday?

Campaign objectives are the part with a genuine deadline, so clear them before the cards you want are gone from the reward lists.

  • Destined for Glory Exhibition. 10 attempts a day, long-range scoring. A few goals short is two sessions of work.
  • The Ultimate Gauntlet, if a round is still live. EA scheduled it over two rounds in the campaign's second week with 10 daily attempts — breakdown in the Ultimate Gauntlet 1 challenges and rewards guide.
  • The campaign's free Evolutions. Started pathways generally survive a campaign ending, but new entries do not — get your player in.
  • The Badge cosmetic Evos. Cosmetic only, so deprioritise if time is tight.
  • Season Pass progress. Season 1 runs to 22 October and eligible matches pay 15-100 SP with a daily cap around 850. The level-30 arithmetic is in the Season 1 SP math.

The Ones to Watch half of Season 1 upgrades on a different trigger — inclusion in a Team of the Week, Star Performer or POTM squad, plus a one-time +1 if the club wins three of its next six domestic league matches after 18 September. The same break delayed those too; running list in the OTW upgrade tracker.

Want to be the buyer on Friday rather than the seller? The promo-exit window only pays if you have a balance ready when it opens, and grinding one out takes the weekend you were planning to spend on Champions.

Frequently asked questions

When does FC 27 Destined for Glory end? The campaign runs 25 September - 9 October 2026, so Friday 9 October is the last day for its objectives, Exhibition attempts, Gauntlet rounds and campaign Evolution entries. Season 1 continues until 22 October.

Do Destined for Glory cards stop upgrading when the campaign ends? No. EA states the items can earn upgrades throughout the entire football season starting from 25 September, based on real-world domestic league performances. The campaign ending removes the content, not the upgrade path.

How many goals does a Destined for Glory card need for a rating upgrade? Ten combined goals and assists for +1 OVR, then 20 for a second +1. Three gets +1 Shooting and Passing, six gets a PlayStyle. Defenders and CDMs work on clean sheets instead: 2, 4, 6 and 10.

Do Champions League or international goals count? No. EA's FAQ limits upgrades to league performances in the 2026/27 domestic season, tracked on Opta data.

What happens if my Destined for Glory player transfers? They stop being eligible for further upgrades. EA's wording is that a player who leaves their current club will no longer be eligible, so banked upgrades stay but the path ends.

Should I sell my Destined for Glory card before the promo ends? Sell rotation players, defenders at leaky clubs, anyone linked with a January move, and anything you own purely as fodder. Hold settled attacking starters: the first league matchweek since the promo began lands on 10 October and their upgrade path is still intact.

Is Future Stars replacing Destined for Glory on 9 October? EA has confirmed Future Stars as part of the Season 1 theme but has not announced a date or roster. A 9 October Team 1 at 6pm BST is being widely reported by leak accounts and should be treated as unconfirmed until EA says so.
