Every year the FUT community argues about whether the market is "expensive" from vibes alone. This year EA handed over a number.
In the first FUT Developer Notes of the cycle, published 1 October 2026, the FC development team said FC 27 coin balances are more than 50% higher than at the same point last year. That single sentence is the most useful piece of economy data anyone has published about EA SPORTS FC 27, and almost every trading decision you make between now and Season 2 should be re-priced around it.
Here is what it means, what it does to specific price tiers, and the exact dates in October that will move the market.
Quick answer (TLDR): EA confirmed in its FUT Developer Launch Update (1 October 2026) that FC 27 coin balances are more than 50% higher than at the same point in FC 26, with "plenty of Transfer Market activity" and a higher share of Starting XI players bought directly off the market. More coins chasing the same card pool means prices rise fastest at the top and the discard floor lifts — meta tradeables and 84–85 fodder inflate first, cheap gold inflates least in percentage-of-your-bank terms. Three things compress this window: Season 1 ends 22 October 2026, the FC 26 carryover drops land on 2, 9, 16 and 23 October (a wave of untradeable 81–83 fodder that suppresses fodder demand), and the first FUT Champions Finals weekend ran 2–5 October. Practical plan: sell meta cards into the weekend, buy fodder on carryover drop days, and remember the 5% EA tax means a 270,000-coin sale hands EA 13,500 coins. Do not read "50% more coins" as "everyone is rich" — EA reports a balance aggregate, not your bank.
Current FC 27 phase: fully released. Worldwide launch was 25 September 2026 (PC unlocked 24 September at 23:00 UTC), and the game is in Season 1 — Ones to Watch, dated by EA's Launch Rewards Pitch Notes as 17 September 2026 to 22 October 2026. Season 2 begins 22 October 2026.

What exactly did EA say about FC 27 coin balances?
The quote matters more than any community estimate, so here it is verbatim from the FC FUT Development Team:
"Coin balances are more than 50% higher than at the same point last year and we're seeing plenty of Transfer Market activity. We're also seeing a higher share of Starting XI players being acquired directly through the Transfer Market."
— FC FUT Development Team, FUT Developer Launch Update, 1 October 2026
Three separate claims are packed into that paragraph, and they reinforce each other:
| EA's claim | What it tells you | Market consequence |
|---|---|---|
| Coin balances >50% higher than the same point in FC 26 | The money supply per player is bigger | Upward pressure on every tradeable price |
| "Plenty of Transfer Market activity" | Those coins are circulating, not sitting idle | Faster price discovery, sharper spikes |
| Higher share of Starting XI players bought on the market | Players are buying squads instead of packing them | Demand concentrated on usable, meta-relevant cards |
The same article adds two more first-party data points worth filing: the new PvE Live Events are already the third most-played FUT experience behind Rivals and Squad Battles, and more than 350,000 players have linked their EA Account with authorized community partner sites. The first tells you where reward income is coming from this year; the second tells you the market is being watched by more tooling than ever, which shortens the life of any obvious flip.
EA also went on record about Campaign squad design, and this one is a direct price signal:
"We're taking a more focused approach with smaller squads and a tighter OVR spread than in previous years… we're encouraged by the early Transfer Market price distribution, with fewer items trading at or near discard compared to similar releases in previous years."
Smaller promo squads with a tighter rating band mean fewer worthless cards per release — so the floor on promo items is higher than you are used to from FC 26.
Community trackers have put numbers on that shape — a widely-shared comparison circulating on r/EASportsFC puts FC 26 Campaign squads at roughly 20 items from an 83 minimum against FC 27's 15 items from an 85 minimum. EA has not published those figures itself, so treat the exact counts as community-compiled; the direction, though, is EA's own stated design goal. Fewer items at a higher floor is straightforwardly bullish for promo-card prices.
Why does a 50% bigger coin supply push prices up, not down?
Because the supply of coins grew but the supply of desirable cards did not grow proportionally. That is textbook inflation, and in FUT it shows up unevenly.
The mechanism, in order:
- More coins per player → more bids per listing → sellers raise asking prices because listings clear instantly.
- More Starting XI bought on the market (EA's own observation) → demand concentrates on the genuinely usable cards rather than spreading across the whole pool.
- Smaller Campaign squads with a tighter OVR spread (EA's own words) → fewer cheap filler items entering circulation per promo.
- Streamlined SBCs, on the Companion App since 28 September 2026 → faster fodder consumption, because submitting is less friction than it was.
Point 4 is the one most traders underestimate: lower friction on SBC submission means fodder gets eaten faster, which props up the 83–85 rating band all season. Our FC 27 item score table and cheapest 84 fodder breakdown is the supply side of the same equation.
Which FC 27 cards get more expensive first?
Inflation is not uniform. Ranked by how hard the 50% coin increase hits each tier:
| Rank | Tier | Inflation exposure | What to do |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Meta tradeables (top Ones to Watch, high-demand promo cards) | 🔴 Highest — fixed supply, concentrated demand | Hold if you own, buy early in a promo not late |
| 2 | 84–85 fodder | 🔴 High — consumed continuously by SBCs | Buy on carryover drop days, not on SBC release days |
| 3 | Gallery-relevant player items | 🟠 Medium-high — Gallery Sets create new demand for non-starters | Check Set requirements before you sell a "useless" card |
| 4 | 82–83 fodder | 🟠 Medium — but heavily diluted by October carryover packs | Avoid buying 2–16 October |
| 5 | Cheap gold / discard tier | 🟢 Lowest in absolute terms, but the floor is rising | Stop auto-discarding; EA says fewer items trade near discard |
The Gallery line is the genuinely new one in FC 27. Per EA Help's Gallery Hub documentation, completing a Gallery Set does not consume the Player Items the way an SBC does — "Unlike Squad Building Challenges (SBCs), completing a Gallery Set doesn't submit or remove the Player Items from your Club." Set grades run D, C, B, A, S, and jumping to a higher grade pays out every grade below it. That creates demand for cards that would otherwise be dead weight, which is why the mid-tier floor is firmer than last year — full table in our Season 1 Gallery Set grades guide.
What does the October carryover schedule do to the market?
This is the single most actionable calendar in FC 27 right now, and it is EA-confirmed in the Launch Rewards Pitch Notes. FC 26 carryover rewards land across four October dates — and every one of them dumps untradeable fodder into millions of clubs at the same instant.
| Date | What lands (FC 26 carryover) | Market effect |
|---|---|---|
| 2 October 2026 | The World's Game International Starter Pack (5-match Loan Bellingham, England stadium, 75+ x2 untradeable); Journey of Nations Champions Pack (Spain stadium, 7-day MVP Loan Rodri, 1 of 3 81+ Spain Player Pick untradeable); Season 9 82+ x5 untradeable | 🔻 82+ fodder demand drops — people use free cards first |
| 9 October 2026 | Season 10 Pre-Season 82+ x7 untradeable + Base Quick Step PS Evo (max 83 OVR) | 🔻 Second 82+ dilution wave |
| 16 October 2026 | Pre-Season Completionist I–IV: 81+ x3 untradeable + 10k coins; Group Reward: 20k coins and 83+ tradeable 1 of 3 Player Pick | 🔺 Coin injection + tradeable 83+ supply |
| 23 October 2026 | Final Whistle Event Objective (Base Anticipate PS Evo max 83, 81+ x3 untradeable, Shadow Striker++ Role++ max 83, Base Pinged Pass PS Evo max 83); Final Whistle Tournament Objective (1 of 3 82+ tradeable PP + 10k coins, 1 of 2 Base Hero Loan Pack) | 🔺 More coins, lands right after Season 2 starts |
Two conditions, straight from EA: you must log into FC 27 Ultimate Team with the same EA Account and platform family you used in FC 26 ("rewards earned on PlayStation can only be claimed on PlayStation"), and EA warns "it may take some time for all eligible rewards to appear in your account." If yours have not arrived yet, that is the documented behaviour, not a bug — our carryover rewards and delivery-date breakdown covers the eligibility rules in full.
The trading read: 16 and 23 October inject coins (10k + 20k + 10k across the objective groups) while 2 and 9 October inject untradeable fodder. Fodder-dilution days are buy days. Coin-injection days are sell days.
When should you buy and sell in FC 27 Season 1?
The weekly rhythm has not changed in FC 27, but the compressed Season 1 calendar sharpens it.
- Thursday–Friday: Squad-building window before competitive weekends. Demand rises, prices firm. Good selling.
- Saturday–Sunday: Competitive play. The first FUT Champions Finals weekend ran 2–5 October 2026 (community-tracked via fifauteam — EA has published no official FC 27 Champions calendar). Market is thin while people play.
- Sunday night–Monday: Rewards land, packs get opened, supply spikes. Best buying window of the week.
- Promo release night: New cards list high and fall. Never panic-buy a Campaign card in hour one.
- 22 October 2026 — Season 1 ends. Season-end objective cards and Premium Pass fodder lose their "must have now" premium. Anything you are holding purely because Season 1 content demands it should be gone before this date.
If you are grinding modes for coins rather than trading, the untradeable-fodder-versus-coins comparison for Rush is in our Rush Points weekly tiers breakdown, and the SBC side of the ledger is in the Season 1 upgrade SBC coin-return guide.

How much is the 5% EA tax really costing you?
Players consistently underestimate this, and in an inflated market the absolute cost grows with every price tier. The Transfer Market tax in EA SPORTS FC Ultimate Team is a long-standing 5% deduction on the sale price — you receive 95% of what the card sells for. EA does not publish a tax page for FC 27, but the rate is unchanged across the series and is what every community tax calculator (futwiz, fifplay) is built on.
| Sale price | EA tax (5%) | You receive | Break-even buy price |
|---|---|---|---|
| 20,000 | 1,000 | 19,000 | 19,000 |
| 100,000 | 5,000 | 95,000 | 95,000 |
| 270,000 | 13,500 | 256,500 | 256,500 |
| 500,000 | 25,000 | 475,000 | 475,000 |
| 1,000,000 | 50,000 | 950,000 | 950,000 |
That 270,000 row is not random — it is roughly what one r/fut poster reckoned they had burned in tax this week flipping cards toward a Gallery pick, before deciding it was not worth it. In a 50%-inflated economy, tax is the fastest-growing line item in your trading P&L, and the fix is simple: fewer, larger, higher-conviction flips rather than high-volume churn. Every intermediate sale pays the toll again.
Should you grind coins or buy them in an inflated market?
Run the numbers honestly. Top-rated special cards in FC 27 are listing in the mid-six figures on the Transfer Market right now, and EA's own observation is that more players are buying their Starting XI off the market rather than packing it. Nothing in EA's dev notes says reward income went up 50% to match the balances — the inflation it reported is a balance aggregate.
So the squeeze is real: card prices are inflating faster than any individual player's earn rate, and Season 1's clock runs out 22 October 2026. Your weekly coin income is almost entirely determined by which Rivals division you finish in — the exact per-division payouts are in our Rivals rewards breakdown rather than guessed at here.
That is the actual decision: weeks of grinding for a squad that is only meta for the rest of the season, or buying the coins and playing the content while it is live.
Want the squad now instead of in three weeks? These are the FC 27 services we run, priced for the Season 1 window:
- EA FC 27 Coins — Comfort Trade, paced delivery to keep your account clean

- EA FC 27 FUT Champions Boost — Pro players, real rank rewards
- All EA FC 27 services
What mistakes should you avoid in an inflated FC 27 market?
- Reading "50% more coins" as "I am rich." EA reported an aggregate across the player base, inflated by early-access buyers, Ultimate Edition FC Points and carryover coins. Your bank did not grow 50%.
- Buying 82–83 fodder between 2 and 16 October. You are bidding against free untradeable packs landing in millions of clubs.
- Discarding mid-tier cards. EA says fewer items are trading near discard, and Gallery Sets give non-starters a use. Check Set requirements first.
- High-volume micro-flipping. The 5% tax scales with price. Inflation makes churn worse, not better.
- Holding Season 1 content cards past 22 October. Premium-pass and seasonal demand evaporates at the season boundary.
- Treating community price trackers as official. Over 350,000 accounts are now linked to partner sites — the obvious flips are crowded within minutes.
What EA says it is working on next
The dev notes flagged four things without dates, and EA's hedging should be mirrored rather than upgraded into promises: more PvE Live Events capabilities "as we move through the opening Seasons"; more ways to reward playing matches later in the year; continued Gallery growth through new Sets and Token Store updates; and more FUT data exposed to partner sites. On Evolutions, EA called this year's changes "meaningful changes to the tuning of Evolutions" and committed only to "continue to monitor feedback" — no reversal. If you are planning Evo upgrades around current requirements, our Evolution Store coins-vs-FC-Points breakdown is the current-state reference. A FUT-specific Q&A in the official EA SPORTS FC Discord was announced with no date set.
FAQ
Did EA really say FC 27 coin balances are 50% higher? Yes. The exact wording in EA's FUT Developer Launch Update of 1 October 2026 is that "coin balances are more than 50% higher than at the same point last year." It is an aggregate across the player base, not a statement about any individual account.
Does more coins in the economy mean prices go up or down? Up, for anything with fixed or limited supply — meta tradeables and consumed fodder especially. The one exception is the bottom of the market, where EA says fewer items are trading at or near discard because Campaign squads are smaller with a tighter OVR spread, so the floor rises rather than the ceiling.
When is the best time to buy fodder in October 2026? On and just after the carryover drop days — 2 October (82+ x5 untradeable) and 9 October (82+ x7 untradeable). Millions of clubs receive free untradeable 82+ cards on those dates, so paid fodder demand softens. Avoid buying into SBC release spikes.
How much is the EA tax in FC 27? 5% of the sale price, deducted automatically, so you receive 95%. On a 270,000-coin sale that is 13,500 coins to EA. EA has not published an FC 27 tax page; the rate is unchanged across the EA SPORTS FC series.
When does FC 27 Season 1 end? 22 October 2026. EA's Launch Rewards Pitch Notes dates Season 1 (Ones to Watch) as 17 September to 22 October 2026, with Season 2 running 22 October to 3 December 2026. Sell season-locked content cards before the boundary.
Is EA reverting the FC 27 Evolutions nerf? EA has not committed to a reversal. It acknowledged Evolutions as "one of the biggest conversations we're following right now," described this year's changes as deliberate tuning for balance across upgrade paths, and said it will "continue to monitor feedback in this area closely throughout the year." Treat any claim of a confirmed buff as unverified until EA publishes it.
