FC 27 Launch Day Market: Buy Tonight or Wait? The 25 September Price Timeline

Quick answer: Wait. Worldwide launch is a supply shock, not a demand shock — every club that was locked out of early access opens its first packs and lists the contents within hours, while early-access players have already spent most of their coins. EA has made that shock bigger than any previous FC by putting "a significantly higher proportion of rewards" on the Transfer Market and making all Rivals Pack rewards tradeable at launch. The floor usually lands in the first 24–48 hours after the console unlock, so buy your squad on Friday 25 or Saturday 26 September, not tonight. The two exceptions: anything you need to play the first Champions weekend, and Ones to Watch cards whose clubs are about to trigger a Wins to Watch upgrade.

Current FC 27 phase: the final hours of early access. EA SPORTS FC 27 has been playable since 17 September 23:00 UTC (PC) and 18 September 00:00 local time (all other platforms) for Ultimate, Ultimate Plus and EA Play Pro. Worldwide launch is tonight — EA's Launch Update Pitch Notes states it verbatim: "Worldwide Launch: EA SPORTS FC™ 27 launches on PC on 24 September at 23:00 UTC, and on all other platforms on 25 September at 00:00 regional time." The live campaign is Season 1: Ones to Watch (17 September – 22 October 2026); Destined for Glory starts on 25 September.

Key takeaways

  • The market gets its supply, not its demand, tonight. Early access was restricted to Ultimate, Ultimate Plus and EA Play Pro. Everyone else arrives at once, with packs to open and nothing to spend coins on yet.
  • FC 27 is built to flood the market harder than FC 26. EA: "In FC 27, a significantly higher proportion of rewards across Objectives, game modes, and other areas of FUT will be tradeable." And for Rivals specifically: "all Pack rewards will be tradeable at launch."
  • Coin income is up several times over. EA is putting "significantly increasing" post-match FUT Coins against an FC 26 baseline of "roughly 500 to 600 FUT Coins typically earned from a match." More coins chasing a bigger card supply is a wash on cheap cards and bullish on the very top end.
  • One real brake exists: EA has deliberately throttled the Store. "From launch, we're taking a more focused approach to Store content. You'll see fewer promotional Pack offers available, alongside lower user limits on certain offers." Fewer FC Points packs opened means a smaller dump than a normal FC launch day.
  • Two dates pull prices back up: Destined for Glory on 25 September (coins leave the economy into SBCs and packs) and the first full Champions weekend of the launch window.
  • Do not confuse a launch dip with a bargain. Gold cards that fall on Friday can keep falling into next week as the Rivals and Champions reward cycle lands.

When exactly does the market change?

There is no single global moment. PC runs on one UTC clock; every console unlocks at local midnight. That means the supply wave rolls around the planet from east to west over roughly 24 hours, and the Transfer Market absorbs it continuously rather than in one drop.

Platform / regionUnlock momentUTC equivalent

Practical consequence: consoles unlock before PC everywhere east of the UK, and PC unlocks first across the Americas. The first real listing wave hits while Europe is asleep, and the biggest one — the US — lands on Friday morning UTC. If you are shopping for a bargain, Friday daytime in Europe is the first genuinely crowded market.

Why does the transfer market fall at worldwide launch?

Because supply and demand arrive at different speeds. Packs are opened in minutes; squads are built over days.

A brand-new club opens its Squad Foundations, its welcome packs, its Season Pass levels and whatever it buys, and immediately lists everything it cannot use. But that same club cannot spend much: it is on Division 10, has no reward cycle behind it, and has not finished a single weekly objective. The result every year is the same shape — listings spike, bids do not follow, and prices sag until the new players have coins.

Two structural details make this year's version sharper.

Rewards are more tradeable than they have ever been. The Launch Update is explicit about the design goal: "With more tradeable rewards, you'll also have more flexibility in how you choose to upgrade your squad, whether that's bidding on Player Items, completing Evolutions, accessing the Premium Pass, or saving toward something you want to add to your Club later in the Season." Flexibility for you means inventory for the market.

Rivals pays out in tradeable packs from day one. EA's own example of Division 1 Upgraded Rewards is worth reading as a supply schedule, not a reward list: 95,000 Coins, a 4x 84+ Gold Players Pack, a 5x 83+ Gold Players Pack, a 1 of 5 83+ Gold Players, a Giant Gold Pack (EA describes it as "similar to FC26 Rare Mega Pack") and a TOTW Player Pack. Every one of those pack rewards is tradeable at launch. Multiply that by the number of clubs collecting Thursday rewards and you have the weekly rhythm of the whole launch month.

Quick Sell is a floor, and it moved. EA is "adjusting Quick Sell values to reflect the updated Rarity system. Player Item Quick Sell values will be more closely aligned with previous Rare Player Item values." With Common and Rare merged, ordinary gold cards discard for meaningfully more than their FC 26 common equivalents did. Nobody lists a card below its discard value, so the true bottom for filler golds is higher this year than last — which is exactly why the "buy 5,000 fodder cards at launch" plan pays worse in FC 27 than the old FC playbook suggests. Our launch-week coin methods breakdown goes through which of those old methods still clear a profit.

Why is FC 27's launch dump bigger than FC 26's?

Because the coin faucet opened at the same time as the card faucet. EA on post-match rewards:

"To support that, we're significantly increasing the FUT Coins earned after matches in Rivals, Champions, and Squad Battles. Compared to the roughly 500 to 600 FUT Coins typically earned from a match in EA SPORTS FC™ 26, Champions and Rivals will have the potential to reward several times more Coins, while Squad Battles will also see an increase."

— EA SPORTS, FC 27 Launch Update Pitch Notes, 14 September 2026

On top of that, every eligible match pays 15 to 100 Season Points depending on result and mode, up to 850 Season Points per day — the ladder that hands out up to 13 Ones to Watch Player Items across the Standard and Premium tracks in Season 1.

The honest read of that combination is a split market. More coins in circulation and more fodder listed means the bottom of the market (base golds, 82s, common fodder) gets pressed down toward its new, higher Quick Sell floor and stays flat. The top of the market — the handful of genuinely meta cards everyone wants — is the one thing extra coins actually chase, so it holds up better than it did in previous launches. If you were planning to buy an expensive card, the launch dip will disappoint you. If you were planning to buy a whole starting XI of solid 83–85s, it will not. We tracked that split through the early-access week in the FC 27 market: sell-or-hold timeline.

EA's own campaign-squad comparison: FC 26 released 20 campaign cards from 83 OVR, FC 27 releases 15 from 85 OVR

What pushes prices back up, and when?

Four things, in this order.

  • Destined for Glory, 25 September. EA: "On 25 September, Destined for Glory will spotlight players that you have voted to make a major impact this football season." The first squad is led by cover star Kylian Mbappé, alongside Morgan Rogers, Matheus Fernandes, Alexander Isak and Bryan Mbeumo. Campaign squads are smaller this year — EA says the release features "15 players in the Campaign Squad release each week." Campaigns mean SBCs; SBCs mean coins leaving the economy and fodder demand spiking. This is the single biggest upward force in the launch window.
  • The first weekly reward cycle after launch. Rivals weekly rewards release Thursdays at 06:59 UTC (EA's own wording on help.ea.com). The Thursday after worldwide launch is the first time the entire playerbase — not just early access — collects at once. Expect a fresh supply spike that morning and a demand spike right behind it as everyone upgrades for the weekend.
  • The first full Champions weekend. The 15-match Champions Finals structure returns, and this year "Champions Qualification Points (CQP) can now be earned through both Rivals and Squad Battles" with "the Division 6 requirement for Champions qualification… removed." More clubs qualifying means more clubs panic-buying on Friday. Full detail in our Rivals rewards and Champions qualification guide.
  • Ones to Watch upgrades. OTW items get +1 OVR per Team of the Week, Star Performer or Player of the Month inclusion, plus a one-time +1 OVR if their club wins three of its next six domestic league matches after 18 September. Those are scheduled, public, real-world triggers — the closest thing FUT has to a known catalyst. The club-by-club tracker is in our Wins to Watch guide.

A Streamlined SBC submission screen in FC 27 — campaign SBCs are what pull fodder and coins back out of the market

Also worth noting: the Season 1 (Combined Rarities) Gallery Set arrives at worldwide launch, pulling Ones to Watch, Destined for Glory and Future Stars items together. Gallery score is permanent and survives selling, so it creates buy-grade-sell churn rather than sustained holding demand — volume, not price support.

If you only remember one line: the best buying window is the eight hours after the US console unlock on Friday 25 September, because that is the only moment when maximum supply and minimum accumulated coins overlap.

What should you buy, and what should you sell?

Keep this at the level of card categories — chasing individual player prices during a launch window is how people lose coins, and any price you read today is stale by the time you act on it.

Lean buy at the dip: base gold squad filler for the leagues you actually play, 83–85 rated linkers, Ones to Watch items whose clubs have a favourable next-six fixture run, and untradeable-proof staples you plan to keep all season.

Lean sell before the unlock: duplicate tradeable specials, high-rated cards you will not use, anything you packed and do not love, and Season Pass tradeables you are holding "just in case."

Do not touch yet: Destined for Glory items in their first hours. Campaign launch prices are the most inflated numbers of the entire week, every single year.

If your problem is that the cheapest market of the year has arrived and your club is broke, that is a coin problem, not a trading problem.

Short on coins in the one week the market is actually cheap? We run Comfort Trade on paced delivery — no cheats, no bots, no injectors. EA's User Agreement still prohibits buying, selling or transferring coins for real money, so there is always residual account risk; anyone promising you zero risk is lying.

What are early-access players actually saying?

Paraphrasing the launch-eve threads on r/fut and r/EASportsFC, the community read matches the mechanics almost exactly.

One player answering a "when should I buy?" thread pointed out that tomorrow's global launch brings a huge number of extra packs opened, but also a wave of people wanting to upgrade their teams — and advised simply monitoring prices and buying whenever you are comfortable across the weekend, noting that popular attackers will rebound off any dip once the first Weekend League arrives. Another, replying to someone hoping a high-rated gold card would climb back to its early-access value, was blunter: plenty of supply is coming tomorrow with the full launch, the card is packable, and holding only works if a specific league or nation SBC turns up to soak the supply.

A third recurring observation across the week: most cards have been drifting down a little every day through early access rather than crashing in one step. That matters. If you have been waiting for a dramatic single-moment crash to time your buys, you are waiting for something that has already been happening slowly since 18 September.

Worth knowing before you plan any of this: if your Transfer Market is still greyed out, that is an account-level restriction, not a launch bug — see FC 27 transfer market locked and how to unlock it. And if you want the full non-market to-do list for tomorrow, our FC 27 launch day checklist covers it.

FAQ

Will FC 27 player prices crash at launch on 25 September? Prices at the bottom and middle of the market almost certainly soften, because worldwide launch adds millions of clubs opening packs faster than they can spend coins. EA has amplified that by making a significantly higher proportion of rewards tradeable and by making all Rivals pack rewards tradeable at launch. Top-end meta cards are the exception — extra coin income chases those, so they dip least.

What is the exact FC 27 worldwide launch time? EA's Launch Update Pitch Notes states 24 September at 23:00 UTC on PC and 25 September at 00:00 regional time on all other platforms. Consoles therefore unlock before PC everywhere east of the UK, and PC unlocks first across the Americas. Never write or plan around "24 September" unqualified — for consoles it is the 25th.

Should I sell my packed cards before tonight's unlock? If you do not intend to use them, yes. The quiet hours before the console unlock are the last window with low listing competition. Once the whole playerbase starts listing, your card is one of many rather than one of few.

Is it better to buy my squad tonight or on Friday? Friday. The single best window is roughly the eight hours after the US console unlock on 25 September, when supply is at maximum and new players have not yet accumulated coins. Buying tonight means paying early-access scarcity prices.

Does Destined for Glory make prices go up or down? Up, on balance. It launches 25 September with a 15-player campaign squad releasing weekly, led by Kylian Mbappé. Campaigns bring SBCs, SBCs burn fodder and coins, and that demand lands on the same weekend as the supply wave — which is exactly why the dip is sharp but short.

Do I need coins to enjoy launch week at all? No. EA has raised post-match FUT Coin rewards several times over the FC 26 baseline of roughly 500–600 coins per match, and Rivals pack rewards are tradeable at launch, so a club that simply plays games earns faster than in any recent FC. Our coins-per-hour mode comparison shows which mode pays best.
