Quick answer (TL;DR)
Kill Block is Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4's new "living" Multiplayer map — an adaptive live-fire training facility whose layout physically rebuilds itself between matches, giving more than 500 possible configurations at launch. It is officially named the West Bridge Advanced Military Training Facility, it is assembled from three sliding "Slabs" that combine into a fresh "Combo" every game, and it debuts in the MW4 Beta before the full launch on October 23, 2026. In the Beta and at launch, Kill Block runs Gunfight — both classic 3v3 and a brand-new 10v10 variant.
The one-line version: it's a Shoot House-sized arena that reshuffles its rooms, routes, sightlines and even the weather so no two matches look the same — and you can try it first during the Beta starting August 21.
Every Call of Duty launch has one headline feature that everyone talks about. For Modern Warfare 4, it's Kill Block — and it is genuinely different from anything Call of Duty has shipped before. Instead of a fixed map you memorize, Kill Block is a modular battleground that mechanically reconfigures itself, so the layout you learned last match may not exist the next.
This guide breaks down exactly what Kill Block is, how the Slab-and-Combo system works, what modes it supports, and when you can actually play it. Everything below is drawn from Activision's official Modern Warfare 4 briefings — where a detail is still developer-side or unconfirmed, it's flagged as such. MW4 is not out yet; Kill Block is playable first in the Beta, and the full game launches October 23, 2026.

What is Kill Block in Modern Warfare 4?
Kill Block is one of Modern Warfare 4's new Multiplayer experiences, built around a single idea: a map that changes shape. In Activision's words, it's the "West Bridge Advanced Military Training — codenamed Kill Block — an off-the-books facility specializing in modular Multiplayer battlegrounds centered on reconfiguring combat layouts" (callofduty.com).
Mechanically, it's a live-fire training compound where the play space is rebuilt between matches. That means sightlines, routes, cover and pacing shift from game to game, forcing you to re-read the map instead of running the same lane on autopilot. Infinity Ward frames the whole design philosophy in one line: "Learn the layout. Adapt when it changes."
Three hard facts to anchor it:
- 500+ configurations are possible at launch on October 23, 2026.
- The arena is assembled from three modular sections that recombine every match.
- It first went public as a hands-on demo at Fanatics Fest (July 16–19) in New York before the Beta.
Kill Block made its public debut running 10v10 Gunfight at Fanatics Fest, and Activision has confirmed it's part of the Beta content lineup — so it's not a launch-only feature you have to wait until October to touch.
How does the Kill Block map system work?
This is where Kill Block earns the "never the same twice" tagline. The arena is built from three linked pieces called Slabs:
- Two End Slabs — the outer thirds of the map. Each team infils through an armory room into its own End Slab, and a perimeter gate (labeled A or B) closes behind them at match start. In non-Gunfight modes, teams spawn around the back of their End Slab.
- One Central Slab — the middle third, built to create combat from multiple angles with vantage points, chokepoints and defensive positions. Teams move freely across all three Slabs.
Fit three Slabs together and you get a Combo — the full map a single match plays out on. Because each Slab and its position allows multiple variants, the Combos stack up fast into hundreds of unique layouts, and Activision confirms more than 500 configurations at launch.

What is the engineering behind the moving map?
Activision leaned into the in-fiction "how" of Kill Block, and it's a neat bit of world-building. The facility is a self-contained compound ringed by eight massive concrete towers packed with electronics, motors and pulley systems. The three steel-reinforced Slabs sit on rail-mounted wheel assemblies (called bogies) that ride tracks above and below the arena.
When the map changes between matches, the active Slab decouples, gets lowered by electric motors into a storage chamber beneath the arena, and a synchronized motor array swaps in a different Slab — winched into place and locked. The result, in Activision's framing, is "an ever-changing Combo map that enables Tier One Operator teams to experience a variety of Shoothouse-style environments."
Each Combo is rectangular and always the same footprint — roughly the size of Modern Warfare (2019)'s beloved Shoot House — so it stays tight and close-quarters no matter which Slabs load. Most sections are brand-new, but some are built to evoke iconic locations from Modern Warfare history, with named Slabs like Station, Shoot House, Woods, Killhouse, Ambush and Snow Block.
What makes each match feel different?
Beyond the layout swaps, Kill Block layers in details that change how a Combo plays:
- Dynamic weather. Certain Slabs are fitted with military-grade weather arrays and fans that push misting water or snow across the space. Rain and snow reduce visibility and shift sightlines — and weapons react to conditions with water or ice accumulation on them.
- Interactive geometry. Slabs are stuffed with parked trucks, burned-out tanks, gabions, cargo containers, live-fire rooms and multi-level prefab buildings — plus tactical doors you can shoot open, barge through, or open slowly for a stealth push.
- Wayfinding markers. Because the map keeps changing, the environment is deliberately signposted: construction markings, arrows, named Slab labels, training targets and duct-tape floor markers help you rebuild spatial awareness on the fly.
That combination — new Combo, new weather, destructible cover — is what stops muscle memory from carrying between games. You're not memorizing one map; you're learning to read a family of maps.

What modes does Kill Block support?
At launch, Kill Block is a Gunfight experience in two flavors:
- Gunfight 3v3 — the classic round-based format with random shared loadouts.
- Gunfight 10v10 — an all-new, larger Gunfight variant that first appeared publicly at Fanatics Fest.
In Gunfight, both teams get the same random loadout each round, so it's a pure gun-skill and positioning test. Reporting from the reveal indicates the map re-shuffles to a new Combo every couple of rounds with a fresh random loadout, and the first team to win six rounds takes the match — expect Activision to confirm exact round rules at Call of Duty: NEXT and in the Beta.
Importantly, Activision says the West Bridge facility is being built to support additional core Multiplayer modes after launch — so Kill Block is designed to grow beyond Gunfight over MW4's lifecycle, not stay boxed into one playlist.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is Kill Block in Modern Warfare 4? Kill Block is a new MW4 Multiplayer experience set in the West Bridge Advanced Military Training Facility — an adaptive live-fire arena whose layout physically reconfigures between matches, giving more than 500 possible configurations at launch on October 23, 2026.
Why does the Kill Block map keep changing? It's built from three modular "Slabs" (two End Slabs and one Central Slab) that recombine into a new "Combo" every match. Motors and rail-mounted bogies swap the active Slab out between games, so sightlines, routes and cover change each time — the design mantra is "learn the layout, adapt when it changes."
How many Kill Block configurations are there? Activision confirms more than 500 configurations are possible at launch, with layouts reshuffling between matches and during Gunfight rounds.
What modes can you play on Kill Block? At launch it supports Gunfight 3v3 and a new Gunfight 10v10 variant, both using random shared loadouts. Activision has said the facility is built to support additional core Multiplayer modes after launch.
Can you play Kill Block in the MW4 Beta? Yes. Kill Block is part of the Beta content lineup. The Early Access Beta runs August 21–25 for pre-order players, and the Open Beta runs August 28–September 1 for everyone on all platforms, including Nintendo Switch 2.
How big is a Kill Block map? Every Combo is rectangular and roughly the same footprint as Modern Warfare (2019)'s "Shoot House" — so it stays a tight, close-quarters space regardless of which Slabs load in.
Does Kill Block have weather effects? Yes. Certain Slabs feature dynamic rain and snow that reduce visibility and shift sightlines, and your weapons visibly react with water or ice accumulation.
