The single most important thing to understand: crossplay and the Auction House use two different platform lists. Switch 2 shares the card market but not matchmaking. PC shares neither with consoles. Merge those two lists in your head and you will make the wrong buying decision.
What crossplay covers in NBA 2K27
2K spells out the scope directly on the official pre-order page. Per nba.2k.com/2k27/buy:
"Enjoy crossplay and play with your friends in NBA 2K27 across PlayStation®5 and XBOX Series X|S consoles. You can experience cross-platform competition in co-op matches and online tournaments on PS5® and XBOX Series X|S consoles."
So on PS5 and Xbox, crossplay applies to the social and competitive online modes — teaming up in co-op and playing in online tournaments across the two consoles. That is the same framework 2K has run for the last few years: the two current-gen consoles share a matchmaking pool, and everyone else is walled off.
What is not confirmed: 2K's language names "co-op matches and online tournaments." It has not published a mode-by-mode crossplay grid for The REC, the Park, Pro-Am, or Play With Friends in The City. Assume crossplay is limited to what 2K names until the August 18 "Preseason Breakdown" reveal or launch clarifies more.
Does NBA 2K27 have PC crossplay?
No. NBA 2K27 does not support crossplay on PC (Steam or Windows) — PC players can only match with other PC players. This continues a years-long pattern. As Operation Sports put it in its July 22, 2026 write-up, "Here's Why PC Doesn't Have Crossplay in NBA 2K27," noting the split has been "an ongoing, conscious decision on the part of the developers for years."
This is the single most-argued point in the community, and there is a real misconception worth clearing up: some players think 2K is already cross-platform between PC and console. It is not. The confusion usually comes from crossplay existing between the two consoles — that is real, but it has never extended to PC.
The reason 2K gives for keeping PC separate has historically centered on competitive integrity and anti-cheat differences between platforms. Whether that reasoning holds up is hotly debated — plenty of long-time PC players report they rarely see cheaters — but for NBA 2K27, the practical answer is unchanged: buy on console if crossplay with console friends matters to you.
Does Nintendo Switch 2 have crossplay?
No — Switch 2 does not have crossplay in NBA 2K27 either. This is easy to get wrong because Switch 2 is included in one big cross-platform feature (the Auction House, below), so people assume it plays online with PS5 and Xbox. It does not. Switch 2 online play stays within the Switch 2 population.
There is a second Switch 2 catch that trips up buyers: Switch 2 only gets the Standard Edition. The Deluxe and Ultra Editions — the only ones with Early Access on August 28 — are not sold on Switch 2, so there is no Switch 2 Early Access. Switch 2 players wait until September 4. The unified Auction House: the one thing that is cross-platform for real
Here is where NBA 2K27 genuinely breaks new ground. For MyTEAM, 2K unified the card marketplace across three platforms. Per 2K's Roadmap Courtside Report (nba.2k.com/2k27/courtside-report/roadmap) and the July 28, 2026 2K Newsroom release:
"For the first time ever in franchise history, the Auction House is unified across PlayStation®5, XBOX Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2, creating the largest pool of community-listed cards in MyTEAM history. This gives players more variety and a higher chance of finding cards at consistent prices."
That is a big deal for MyTEAM economy players: a single, deeper pool of buy-and-sell listings means fewer wild price swings and easier sniping across the three console platforms.
But note the PC nuance that most guides get wrong. PC is not simply "excluded." According to 2K's own NBA 2K27 Pre-Order and Edition FAQ on support.nba2k.com:
"For the MyTEAM Auction House you will see offerings shared across PlayStation, XBOX, and Switch 2 platforms, but Steam and Windows PC will have their own shared Auction House."
In other words, PC/Steam and Windows share an Auction House pool with each other — just not with consoles. So there are effectively two card markets in NBA 2K27: the big three-platform console pool, and a separate PC pool. If you play MyTEAM on PC, you are still trading, just in a PC-only economy.

Does NBA 2K27 have cross-progression or cross-save?
2K has not announced cross-progression or cross-save for NBA 2K27. Based on how every recent NBA 2K has worked, you should plan for the following unless 2K says otherwise:
- Your MyPLAYER build does not transfer between platforms. Switch from Xbox to PS5 and you start a new MyCAREER build from scratch.
- VC does not carry across platforms (and it does not carry between annual releases either — VC is tied to your account and platform).
- Your MyTEAM collection stays on the platform you built it on.
This is a genuine, recurring source of frustration — players who move consoles routinely find their progress stranded. Until 2K publishes a cross-progression policy for NBA 2K27, assume no transfer and pick your platform accordingly. Which platform should you buy NBA 2K27 on?
Use crossplay and the Auction House to make the call before September 4:
- Play online with friends who are on a different console? Buy on PS5 or Xbox — that is the only crossplay pairing.
- Friends split between PC and console? There is no fix — crossplay won't bridge them. Match the majority.
- MyTEAM economy grinder? Any of the three consoles gives you the unified Auction House (the deepest card pool). PC works too, but in its own smaller pool.
- Want to play early (August 28)? You need the Deluxe or Ultra Edition on PS5, Xbox, or PC — not Switch 2.
- Switch 2 as your main? You get the full game on September 4 and the unified Auction House, but no crossplay and no early access.
None of this is a knock on any single platform's basketball — the game is identical. It is purely about who you can play with and trade with.
