EFT Hideout Management Not Getting Points? Why It's Stuck & How to Fix It (Tarkov 1.0.5)

Quick answer: why your Hideout Management isn't getting points

In 99% of cases your Hideout Management skill isn't bugged — it's just out of its big point source. The skill gains a one-time +8 points every time you upgrade a hideout module, but only a tiny drip of +0.4 points per completed craft and +0.1 points per 10 units of fuel/filter durability burned. Once your hideout is mostly built, those +8 upgrades stop, and the leftover drip is so slow that the skill looks frozen even though it's working as designed — one player counted roughly 750 finished crafts to go from level 2 to level 3.

So if your "points aren't going up," the fix is almost always throughput, not a bug: keep the generator on and fueled 24/7, keep air/water filters running, and never let your crafting queue sit empty — spam short, cheap crafts so completed cycles (and burned fuel) keep crediting points. There is a separate, real bug where module upgrades stop crediting XP entirely after a wipe — if that's you, log out and back in (and play a raid or two), the same trick that clears the hideout-upgrade error.

If you'd rather skip the grind entirely, you can have a pro max your stations with an EFT hideout upgrade boost or push your whole account with a Tarkov leveling boost — but if you're doing it yourself, here's exactly how the points work and how to farm them.

Patch note: Mechanics here reflect the live game as of content patch 1.0.5 "Icebreaker." Tarkov 1.0 replaced traditional wipes with a seasonal model; Season 1 "Kord Breach" is targeted for July 2026 and is reported to make early-tier hideout upgrades easier (fewer cross-station prerequisites), per roadmap coverage — BSG has not published a patch note that changes the Hideout Management skill itself, so treat the point values below as current-but-evergreen. How do you actually gain Hideout Management points?

Escape from Tarkov hideout overview with the generator running and crafts active

Hideout Management is a Practical skill, and there are only three ways it credits points (source: EFT Wiki / eft-ammo):

  • Upgrading a hideout module — +8 points each. This is a one-time reward per upgrade. Early on, when you're building everything, +8 is nearly a full level (a skill level needs ~10 points), which is why the skill races up at the start.
  • Completing a crafting cycle — +0.4 points per finished craft. Tiny, but it's your main source once the hideout is built. Throughput is everything here.
  • Burning fuel / filter durability — +0.1 points per 10 units consumed. The passive "generator is running" drip. Air and water filters count too.

That's the whole picture. Notice what's missing: there's no points for simply owning a built hideout, and no points while everything sits idle. A finished, switched-off hideout earns nothing. Points come from activity — crafts finishing and fuel/filters being consumed.

Why does it feel like the skill is stuck?

If your hideout is built out and you've stopped seeing progress, here's what's really happening, ranked by how likely it is to be your problem:

1. You used up the +8 upgrades (most common)

Module upgrades are the only chunky point source, and they're one-time. Once your stations are mostly maxed, that fountain dries up and you're left with the 0.4-per-craft / 0.1-per-10-fuel drip. The skill isn't broken — the easy points are just gone, and the remaining grind is genuinely slow. This is the answer for the large majority of "it's not leveling" complaints.

2. Nothing is actually running

No active crafts + generator off = zero passive points. If you log in, grab your crafts, and log out without re-queuing, your hideout sits idle and earns nothing until you fill it again.

3. The real upgrade-credit bug

There is a genuine, intermittent bug — reported on the official BSG forums — where module upgrades stop crediting the +8 entirely for some accounts, usually starting after a wipe ("ever since the last wipe I haven't gotten any Hideout Management experience for upgrading modules"). It hits some players and not their squadmates. If you just upgraded a station and got zero skill points for it, this is probably you — see the fix below.

4. Skill fatigue (minor)

Practical skills have a fatigue system that throttles point gain per session with a short cooldown before more can be earned. For an activity-paced skill like this one it's a minor speed bump, not the reason it looks frozen. There is no confirmed "X points per real-time day" hard cap for Hideout Management — don't trust guides that quote a specific daily number.

How to fix it and level Hideout Management fast

If it's the bug (upgrades crediting zero points): log out completely, log back in, and play a raid or two — this is the same fix that clears the related hideout-upgrade Error 228, and it resolves most stuck-credit cases. If upgrades still award no skill points afterward, it's a server-side bug to report to BSG; there's no deeper player-side fix.

If it's just slow (the real situation for most), maximize throughput:

  • Build everything you can first. Bank every one-time +8 before that source runs out — don't leave cheap upgrades unbuilt.
  • Keep the generator ON and fueled around the clock. It powers your crafts and burns fuel for the passive +0.1/10 drip.
  • Keep air and water filters running. Their durability consumption credits the same passive drip, so a Water Collector + air filter setup quietly adds points all day.
  • Spam short, cheap crafts to farm the +0.4 per completed cycle. The skill rewards number of completed cycles, so the shortest crafts you can keep cycling beat the most profitable long ones if the skill is your goal. Reliable, fast queues:
  • Workbench: printed circuit boards, power cords.
  • Lavatory: AI-2 medkits, army bandages, gas masks.
  • Medstation / Lavatory: gas mask → air filter conversions (fast and profitable).
  • Refill the queue the instant a craft finishes. Idle modules = zero points. The whole game here is keeping every station busy.
  • Build the Library. It gives a flat boost to the entire Practical skill group, which speeds up Hideout Management alongside your other practical skills.

Do all of that and the skill ticks steadily upward. It will never feel fast after the upgrade phase — that's the design — but it won't be frozen either.

What does maxing Hideout Management actually get you?

It's worth grinding because the payoff is real money saved and earned. Per level you get −0.5% fuel/air/water filter consumption and +1% to all your hideout zone bonuses, and at Elite (level 50) that becomes:

  • −25% fuel and filter consumption — your generator and filters last a quarter longer.
  • +50% amplification of every hideout module bonus — your other stations' percentage perks all get stronger.
  • +2 fuel canister slots, +2 water filter slots, +2 air filter slots.
  • Bitcoin Farm "awaiting collection" cap raised from 3 → 5 coins, so you can leave it longer between collections.

Common mistake: Hideout Management does not speed up your crafts. That's the separate Crafting skill (−0.75% craft time per level). Plenty of guides conflate the two — don't grind Hideout Management expecting faster Bitcoin.

Bonus: "my hideout won't upgrade" (the other meaning)

Sometimes "hideout points not working" actually means a station won't let you upgrade it even though it looks ready. That's a different problem with its own checklist:

  • Greyed-out build button = a requirement is unmet. Hover the requirement list and find the red line.
  • Required items must be in your STASH — not on your character or in a container — and in the correct currency (₽ vs $ vs €).
  • Prerequisite stations: many upgrades need another module at a certain level first (classic example: Intel Center 2 needs Vents 3). Some need a skill level, too.
  • Trader Loyalty Level is the most-forgotten gate — check the LL requirement on the upgrade.
  • Generator must be on and fueled to start (and stay running during) construction; if power drops, the timer pauses.
  • Error 228 ("can't reach loyalty level requirement") after an upgrade: a known bug — log out and back in, and play a match or two if needed, to clear it.

Need it all done at once? An EFT hideout upgrade boost gets your stations maxed without the materials grind, and EFT roubles cover the upgrade costs if currency is your bottleneck.

Frequently asked questions

Why is my Hideout Management skill stuck even though I upgraded everything? Because module upgrades are a one-time +8-point reward, and once your hideout is built that source is gone. You're left with +0.4 per completed craft and +0.1 per 10 fuel/filter units burned, which is slow by design — not a bug.

Does the generator need to be on to gain Hideout Management points? Effectively yes. Points come from completed crafts and burned fuel/filters, and both require the generator running. An idle, powered-off hideout earns nothing.

How much XP do I get per craft? +0.4 points per completed crafting cycle, plus +0.1 points per 10 units of fuel or filter durability consumed, plus the one-time +8 points each time you upgrade a module.

Is Hideout Management actually bugged? There's a real, intermittent bug — reported on the official forums after some wipes — where module upgrades stop crediting points. But most "not leveling" cases are just the slow post-build grind. If upgrades give you literally zero points, relog and play a raid; otherwise it's working as intended.

What's the fastest way to level Hideout Management? Keep the generator and filters running 24/7, and spam short, cheap crafts so completed cycles keep coming. Throughput of finished crafts plus constant fuel burn is the only lever once your upgrades are done. Building the Library speeds up the whole Practical group.

Does Hideout Management speed up crafting time? No. Faster crafts come from the separate Crafting skill. Hideout Management reduces fuel/filter consumption and amplifies your hideout's other bonuses.

What does Elite Hideout Management do? −25% fuel and filter consumption, +50% to all hideout zone bonuses, +2 fuel/water/air filter slots, and a raised Bitcoin Farm collection cap (3 → 5 coins).
