Your beta guild is gone, your group has to pick one ruleset, and two days before launch Blizzard still hasn't published a guild rules page. World of Warcraft: Forever goes live on November 4 at 3:00 p.m. PST (23:00 UTC), and players on the official forums are still asking whether a guild takes signatures or just gold.
Quick answer: Plan to buy a guild charter from a Guild Master in a capital city and collect 9 signatures, which makes 10 people counting you. The charter price is unconfirmed; it was 10 silver in earlier WoW. Everyone must be on the same ruleset and same faction. In beta, the first guild bank tab cost 100 gold. No guild perks or levels have been announced.

What has Blizzard actually confirmed about guilds?
Very little, so sort every claim you read by how solid it is. As of November 2, Blizzard has confirmed the membership rule and not much else. The charter price, the signature count and bank pricing come from beta play or the game client.
| Guild fact | Status | What we know |
|---|---|---|
| Same ruleset and faction | Confirmed by Blizzard | Applies to grouping, guilds, dungeons and raids |
| Stress test guilds | Confirmed by Blizzard | Wiped after the October 21 test |
| Signatures needed | Beta client text, not announced | 9 signatures, 10 people with the founder |
| Charter price | Not announced | 10 silver in earlier WoW |
| Guild bank | Seen in beta, price not announced | First tab cost 100 gold |
| Later bank tabs | Not announced | No Forever price list exists |
| Guild perks or levels | Not announced | Nothing published |
| Member cap | Not announced | Players report about 1,000 |
The one line to build your plan on comes from Blizzard's New Player's Starter Guide:
"Characters can group, join guilds, run dungeons, and raid only with players on the same Ruleset and faction. If you want to play with friends, agree on both choices before creating your characters." — Blizzard, New Player's Starter Guide
How do you make a guild in WoW Forever?
Expect the traditional charter route, then confirm the details in game. Blizzard hasn't published Forever steps, so this is the Classic process that beta players describe:
- Agree on the ruleset and faction first. Normal, PvP, Roleplay and Roleplay-PvP are open at launch. Hardcore comes later.
- Earn the charter money. Sell gray items and skinned leather, and do the early quests on your way.
- Run to a capital city and find the Guild Master NPC.
- Buy the charter and enter your guild name. Bring two backup names.
- Collect the signatures from players on your ruleset and faction.
- Hand the signed charter back to the Guild Master. That creates the guild.
A player on r/wowforever tried this speed run in beta and had more than 10 silver in about an hour, going solo with Skinning and starter quests. Others in that thread suggest pooling silver with a handful of friends to shorten it. Keep in mind that the silver wasn't the real bottleneck. The signatures were.
Founding on a fast throwaway character and passing leadership to a main later is a common player plan. Blizzard hasn't said anything specific about it for Forever, so test it after launch before you rely on it.
How many signatures does a guild charter need?
Plan for 9 signatures plus you. A beta client extraction from build 1.60.1.70205, reported by a community guide, contains registrar text asking for 9 unique player signatures. Forum players use the same number: the Lessen Guild Sigs thread (26 posts) keeps referring to needing 10 people.
Here's why you'll find conflicting answers. During beta, Blizzard's Known Issues post said it had "temporarily made it possible to hand-in a guild charter with no signatures" because signing was broken. Players who only used that workaround believe a guild just costs gold.
On November 1, one player asked whether launch will need signatures at all. Replies expected signatures, and one said they were back by the end of beta. No Blizzard employee answered in that thread, and we found no official launch statement. Plan for 9. If launch lets you skip them, you've lost nothing.
Two more details from the Lessen Guild Sigs thread are player reports, so verify them in game:
- One signature per Battle.net account. A player says alts on the same account no longer count. If that holds, your own alts won't fill the charter.
- Asking early is easier. Players expect full capitals in launch week and far fewer unguilded characters a month later.
What do "not on your server" charter errors mean?
In beta, players trying to sign reported the error "This player is not on your server", and the founder saw a message about not playing the same version of the game. The Guild charter issue thread shows it hitting characters on the same ruleset, which is the bug Blizzard listed in Known Issues.
Blizzard also addressed an error "that could occur when joining or leaving a guild" on October 6. We can't tell you the signing bug is fully gone until launch tests it. If you see that error on November 4, try this order:
- Confirm that both characters are on the same ruleset and the same faction.
- Check that the signer isn't already in a guild, which blocked signing in earlier WoW.
- Join a party and accept any world-refresh pop-up, so both of you are in the same world.
- Relog and try again.
- Send a bug report with the exact error text, and check Blizzard's launch posts for a workaround.
How much does a WoW Forever guild bank cost?
In beta, the first tab cost 100 gold. Players in the Cost of guild bank thread, viewed over 1,000 times, and in a second thread both report that figure. No Blizzard reply appears in either. Nobody has published later tab prices for Forever.
For scale, one tester said they'd made about 20 gold by level 20. So 100 gold is a serious early goal for one person, and a small one for a guild: 10 members chipping in 10 gold each covers it.
If Forever copies the old ladder, as the 100-gold opener suggests, the six tabs would cost this much. Treat these as precedent, not Forever prices:
| Tab | Older WoW price | Running total |
|---|---|---|
| Tab 1 | 100g (matches beta) | 100g |
| Tab 2 | 250g | 350g |
| Tab 3 | 500g | 850g |
| Tab 4 | 1,000g | 1,850g |
| Tab 5 | 2,500g | 4,350g |
| Tab 6 | 5,000g | 9,350g |
Before you deposit anything, ask who can withdraw. A forum post on guild controls complained in beta that officer powers were bundled together and that only the Guild Master had full control of the bank. Your guild bank is also only as clean as the gold going in. Kaivax, a Blizzard Community Manager, described Temporary Economy Holds on October 13:
"You will have restricted use of trade, mail, guild banks and the Auction House while this economic hold is in place." — Kaivax, Blizzard Community Manager
Kaivax also said holds are removed automatically if the investigation clears you. A later post on direct gold transfers warned that guilds running carries for gold can lose that gold if it arrived through an intermediate player. That post didn't name a game version, but the habit is easy: take payment directly from the person you're carrying. Our gold and ban risk guide covers Blizzard's rules on buying gold.

Can guilds cross rulesets or factions?
No. Blizzard's rule above is explicit. A Normal character can't join a PvP guild, and Horde can't join Alliance. That's what makes the 236-comment r/classicwow thread from a player split between PvE friends, RP guildmates and a partner on PvP so painful. There's no setting that keeps all of them in one guild.
The PvP ruleset adds a second wall. Blizzard's ruleset article says that once you create an Alliance character there, "you won't be able to create a Horde character there, and vice versa." Your account picks a side, so settle your guild's faction before anyone makes a PvP character. Our ruleset guide compares all four launch rulesets.
There's one more launch risk for organized guilds. If you're rolling Horde on PvP, read our faction unavailable guide before you assume everyone will get in together.
Do guilds help with layering at launch?
Probably, and that's the best reason to form one early. Since there's no realm list, a guild is the main way to keep seeing the same people. On Episode 6 of the WoW: Forever Podcast, Blizzard's Frank Williams said guild members who aren't in a group "should be in worlds with your guild's community" (auto-captions).
"Should" isn't a promise. It's a placement preference, and grouping is still the stronger signal. If you need to be together right now, invite each other. Our layering explainer covers the pop-up you'll see when you group.
What should your guild do before November 4?
You have two days, and most of the useful work happens outside the game:
- Lock one ruleset and one faction in your Discord or chat. Do it before anyone creates a launch character.
- Pick a guild name and two backups. We found no announced way to reserve a guild name, and players expect the name to lock only when the charter is handed in.
- Name 10 founders who'll be online at launch, then agree on a starting zone and meeting point. Our launch time table converts the start time.
- Choose a bank plan. Decide who holds the gold until you reach 100 gold, and write the withdrawal rules down.
- Set a raid goal. Blizzard's raids open on December 9: Barrow Deeps (10), Hyjal Summit (20) and Onyxia's Lair (40). A group of 10 founders only covers the first.
Solo players should work the opposite way. Check that a guild matches your ruleset, faction and schedule first, using Blizzard's Community Connections forum. It's a player-run board, so confirm the details directly with recruiters. With no automatic Dungeon Finder, as our LFG guide explains, a guild can help you form regular dungeon groups.

FAQ
How much does it cost to make a guild in WoW Forever? Blizzard hasn't announced a price. A charter cost 10 silver in earlier WoW, so bring at least that. The first guild bank tab is a separate cost, and it was 100 gold in beta.
Can I make a guild by myself in WoW Forever? Plan on no. Expect to need 9 other players to sign your charter. Blizzard temporarily waived signatures in beta because of a bug, and it hasn't said that carries into launch.
Does WoW Forever have guild perks? None have been announced. Blizzard hasn't published guild levels, perks or a guild finder for Forever, so don't plan around them.
What is the WoW Forever guild size limit? Blizzard hasn't published one. Community reports put it at about 1,000 characters, which is unverified. Raid sizes matter more at launch: 10, 20 and 40 players on December 9.
Did my beta guild carry over? No. Beta progress doesn't carry to launch, and Blizzard wiped stress test characters, names and guilds. Our beta wipe guide has the details.
Can I be in a guild on two rulesets? Each character joins a guild on its own ruleset, so one character can't span two. A second guild would mean a second character on that ruleset.
