PoE 2 Ascendancy Respec: How to Change or Reset Your Ascendancy
Verified 2026-07-04 · patch 0.5.4b · rules current since 0.5.0
Yes — you can change your ascendancy in PoE 2 (since patch 0.5.0). Refund all allocated ascendancy points for gold, re-run an Ascendancy Trial that grants your current point count, and pick the new ascendancy at the Ascension device. Refunding just a few nodes is simpler: gold at 5× the cost of a normal passive-point respec, paid in gold.
How to change ascendancy (full procedure)
- Refund every allocated ascendancy point. Visit The Hooded One (campaign) or Doryani (endgame) and pay the gold cost (5× the cost of a normal passive-point respec, paid in gold; the exact amount scales with level). You must be at 0 allocated points.
- Re-run an Ascendancy Trial that grants the number of points you currently have — see which trial tier that is.
- Re-ascend at the Ascension device (Balbala in the Trial of the Sekhemas, The Trialmaster in the Trial of Chaos) and choose the new ascendancy.
“Reset” vs “respec” vs “change”
Players use all three for the same two mechanics: node refunds (undo individual ascendancy passives for gold, keep the ascendancy) and a full ascendancy change (refund everything, redo a trial, pick a different ascendancy of the same class). Neither lets you swap class — Deadeye to Pathfinder works, Deadeye to Witch doesn’t.
Build your respec plan
- Refund all 4 allocated ascendancy points at The Hooded One (campaign) or Doryani (endgame) — costs gold at 5× the cost of a normal passive-point respec, paid in gold (scales with level; check the vendor for your exact price). You must reach 0 allocated points.
- Re-run an Ascendancy Trial that grants your current point count (2 pairs → the trial tier that awards points up to 4).
- At the Ascension device (Balbala or The Trialmaster), pick your new ascendancy and re-allocate.
Short on gold — or is the whole build cooked? Powerlevel a fresh character or have the re-ascension trials carried.
FAQ
- Can you change your ascendancy in PoE 2?
- Yes — since patch 0.5.0 you can switch to a different ascendancy of the same class. Refund ALL allocated ascendancy points first (you must be at 0), then re-run an Ascendancy Trial that grants the number of points you currently have, and pick the new ascendancy at the Ascension device (Balbala or The Trialmaster).
- How much does it cost to respec ascendancy points in PoE 2?
- Ascendancy points refund for gold at 5× the cost of a normal passive skill point respec. The exact gold amount scales with your character level, so check the refund screen at The Hooded One (campaign) or Doryani (endgame) for your price.
- How do you reset your ascendancy in PoE 2?
- “Reset” and “change” are the same procedure: refund every allocated ascendancy point for gold, then re-complete an Ascendancy Trial matching your current point count and re-ascend, choosing either the same ascendancy or a different one of your class.
- Can you change to a different class in PoE 2?
- No — respeccing only switches between ascendancies of the SAME class (e.g. Deadeye ↔ Pathfinder on Ranger). Changing class entirely means leveling a new character.
Not sure what to respec into? Browse the current ascendancy tier list or every class on the ascendancy hub.
