Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 launches October 23, 2026, and when it does, your Black Ops 7 grind stops where it stands. Operators, skins and blueprints follow you forward — but your Dark Ops calling cards, your Dark Ops Master cards, and your legacy weapon camos do not. There is no second window. Once Warzone migrates to MW4 (expected mid-November 2026), the BO7 Dark Ops challenge list is closed for good, and every card you didn't earn becomes a card you never will.
This guide is the straight answer to the question blowing up r/CODWarzone right now: what actually disappears, what carries, and exactly which Dark Ops cards to prioritize in the ~3 weeks you have left. Everything below is verified against Activision's official carry-forward blog and its late-September correction — not rumor.

Quick answer: what carries into MW4 and what's gone
TL;DR — Your Dark Ops calling cards are tied to Black Ops 7 and do NOT carry forward into Modern Warfare 4. Neither do weapon camos (including mastery/Apocalypse) or weapon levels — MW4 ships a brand-new progression system where every gun starts at level 1. What does carry: Operators, Operator skins, Weapon Blueprints (from MW2, MW3, BO6 and BO7), unspent 2XP tokens, and your COD Points on the same platform. Season 6 (The Haunting) is your last chance to complete the BO7 Dark Ops set. Finish it before October 23, 2026, or it's locked away permanently.
| What you have in BO7 | Carries to MW4? | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Dark Ops calling cards | ❌ No | BO7-tied; challenge list closes at launch |
| "Dark Ops Master" cards | ❌ No | Requires every Dark Ops in a mode — finish now |
| Weapon camos (base + mastery) | ❌ No | Not usable in Warzone; gunsmith is gone for legacy guns |
| Apocalypse / final mastery camo | ❌ No | Earnable in BO7 now, not in MW4 |
| Weapon levels / attachments | ❌ No | MW4 progression resets to level 1 |
| Operators & Operator skins | ✅ Yes | From MW2, MW3, BO6, BO7 |
| Weapon Blueprints | ✅ Yes | Original attachment configs retained |
| Unspent 2XP tokens | ✅ Yes | Roll forward |
| COD Points | ✅ Yes | Same platform only |
Why Dark Ops cards don't survive the MW4 transition
Dark Ops calling cards are the hidden, high-difficulty challenges in each Call of Duty — the ones that don't show a progress bar and only reveal themselves once unlocked. In Black Ops 7 they span 90+ cards across every mode: roughly 30 in Zombies, 15–16 in Multiplayer, 18+ in Warzone, plus the campaign and Endgame sets, each capped by a mode-specific "Dark Ops Master" card that requires completing every Dark Ops in that mode.
Here's the problem Activision created and then confirmed. In its carry-forward blog, the publisher first implied legacy weapon camos would appear in Warzone — then issued a correction. In Activision's own words: "In the published version of the Blog, it was stated that Weapon Camos from legacy titles will be available in Call of Duty: Warzone. This is incorrect. Operators, Operator Skins, and Weapon Blueprints will be available from Modern Warfare II, Modern Warfare III, Black Ops 6, and Black Ops 7."
Every legacy weapon still appears in MW4 as a five-attachment Armory version, and your blueprints keep their original configs — but the full gunsmith is gone for those guns, which is why you can't apply or show off BO7 camos on them in Warzone. And because Dark Ops cards live inside the BO7 challenge system (not the account-wide cosmetics that carry), that whole list goes with the game. As one player put it on r/CODWarzone: "No camos available for legacy weapons. You could still earn them in the respective games but won't be available in Warzone to use."
Translation: if finishing the Dark Ops set matters to you — for the completion, the rare cards, or the "Master" status — the clock is the deadline, not a limited-time event.
How much time do you actually have?
- Now → Oct 22, 2026: Full BO7 access. Every mode's Dark Ops list is grindable. This is your window.
- October 23, 2026: Modern Warfare 4 launches. BO7 multiplayer progression is superseded; MW4 starts everyone at level 1.
- ~Mid-November 2026: Warzone migrates to MW4. Legacy camos stop being usable in Warzone.
Early campaign access opens October 16 for pre-orders, but that doesn't extend your BO7 grind — if anything, it splits your attention. Treat the real deadline as launch day, October 23.
The priority order: finish these Dark Ops first
You will not casually complete 90+ hidden challenges in three weeks. Prioritize by permanence and difficulty, not by what's easiest. Knock out the grind-gated Master cards first, because they're the ones you can't rush at the end.
1. Mode "Dark Ops Master" cards (highest priority)
Zombies Dark Ops Master, Multiplayer Dark Ops Master, Warzone Dark Ops Master each require every other Dark Ops in that mode. They're the hardest to finish last-minute because they depend on completing the full set. Pick the mode you play most and commit to one Master card rather than scattering effort across all three.
2. Skill-gated Multiplayer cards
The multiplayer Dark Ops are reflex and streak challenges — Nuclear Killer, Mega Killer, Ultra Killer, Relentless Killer, Brutal Killer, Extreme Precision, Nuked Out. These demand consistent high-kill games. Use the fastest-XP, high-lobby-density modes (Nuketown 24/7 when it's live) to farm attempts, and run them while SBMM lobbies are still populated with BO7 players — that pool thins the day MW4 drops.
3. Zombies round/boss cards
Boss Rush, The One, Invincible, Another Round, Harbinger of Doom, Reliquary and the rest of the Zombies set reward deep, uninterrupted runs. These are time-expensive but low-variance — plan a few long sessions rather than short ones.
4. Warzone cards
Ascendance, One Round Crowns, Flawless Feed, Deleted, Efficient Execution and the Warzone set are match-dependent and partly luck-gated (lobby, teammates, circle). Chip at these in your normal Warzone play so they're mostly done before the final week.
Want the Dark Ops Master card without the three-week grind — or stuck on the skill-gated multiplayer ones? This is exactly what a carry-done-right finish is for. Our pros complete the hidden challenges before the window closes, legit on your account.

Don't forget the camos — they're on the same clock
The Dark Ops deadline runs in parallel with the mastery camo deadline. Every base camo, every mastery tier, and the final camos — Singularity, Infestation, Genesis and Apocalypse — reset to zero in MW4. The final mastery camo now unlocks automatically once you've earned the previous mastery tier on 30 weapons, so if you're close on your camo grind, pushing to that 30-weapon threshold before October 23 is the single highest-value thing you can do. (We cover the full camo path in our Season 6 final camos guide and the carry rules in detail in the legacy-weapons correction breakdown.)
If you still need the hidden-challenge mechanics themselves — how each card unlocks and where — our full BO7 Dark Ops calling cards guide lists every requirement. This page is the strategy and deadline layer on top of it.
What to do the day MW4 drops
When you boot Modern Warfare 4 on October 23, expect a clean slate: level 1 guns, a new progression system, and a fresh camo grind. The Hunter Killer Operator skin and the Gilded Pearl Camo Pack unlock in BO7 and Warzone only if you pre-ordered MW4 — they're a pre-order perk, not something your grind earns. If MW4 launch-day leveling is your next priority, our how-to-level-up-fast launch-day guide and the release-date & preload countdown have you set. But everything BO7-specific — your Dark Ops cards, your camos — is a this-week job, not a next-week one.
FAQ
Do Dark Ops calling cards carry over to Modern Warfare 4? No. Dark Ops calling cards are tied to Black Ops 7 and do not carry into MW4. The BO7 challenge system is superseded at launch on October 23, 2026, so any Dark Ops card you haven't earned becomes permanently unobtainable.
What's the exact deadline to finish my BO7 Dark Ops grind? Treat October 23, 2026 — MW4's launch day — as the hard deadline for multiplayer and the BO7 challenge list. Warzone keeps BO7 content usable only until the mid-November 2026 migration, and even then legacy camos stop being usable in Warzone.
Will my weapon camos (including Apocalypse) be usable in Warzone after MW4? No. Activision corrected its blog to confirm legacy weapon camos will not be available in Warzone. Legacy guns appear as a five-attachment Armory version with no full gunsmith, so you can't apply or display BO7 camos on them.
What actually carries forward into MW4, then? Operators and Operator skins, Weapon Blueprints (from MW2, MW3, BO6 and BO7, with their original attachment configs), unspent 2XP tokens, and your COD Points on the same platform. Weapon levels, camos and Dark Ops cards do not.
Is it worth grinding Dark Ops now if I'm not close? If you're chasing a mode's "Dark Ops Master" card from scratch, three weeks is tight but doable with focused sessions — pick one mode. If you only want specific cards, prioritize the skill-gated multiplayer ones (they get harder as BO7 lobbies empty after MW4 launches). If the deadline isn't realistic for your schedule, a calling cards & challenges boost finishes them legit before the window closes.
Does early campaign access on October 16 give me more time? No. Early campaign access is a pre-order perk for MW4's campaign; it doesn't extend BO7's progression or Dark Ops window. Your grind deadline is still launch day, October 23.
