Black Ops 7 Free Trial (Season 4 Reloaded): How to Play BO7 Free on PlayStation, What's Included & How to Make It Count

Black Ops 7 is free to play right now. The Season 04 Reloaded Free Trial went live on PlayStation on July 2, 2026, giving anyone on PS5 or PS4 full access to Multiplayer and Zombies — no purchase and no Game Pass needed to download it (standard PlayStation online rules still apply, so PS Plus may be required for online Multiplayer). The catch: the window is short, and once it closes you lose access unless you buy in. This guide covers exactly what's included, how to install it on PlayStation, and — the part that actually matters — how to turn a 4-day free trial into permanent progress you keep forever.

Quick answer: how to play Black Ops 7 for free

The Black Ops 7 Season 04 Reloaded Free Trial is live on the PlayStation Store from July 2 through July 6, 2026. Search "Black Ops 7 Free Access" on the PS Store (or find it in the PS Events tab), download it free, and you get full Multiplayer and Zombies — everything except Multiplayer Ranked Play. Here's the 60-second version:

  • Download it: Open the PlayStation Store, search "Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 – Free Access", and hit download. It's free.
  • What you get: Full Multiplayer (dozens of maps, including the new Season 4 Reloaded maps Zenith and Launch) and round-based Zombies on the new Kowakujō map. Ranked Play is excluded.
  • Double XP is on: The trial runs alongside a Double XP window, so every match levels you faster than normal.
  • Your progress carries over: Every weapon level, camo, calling card, and account XP you earn during the trial transfers to the full game if you buy it — nothing is wiped.
  • Make it count: With a hard deadline and Double XP live, the smart play is to grind the things that are slow and permanent — weapon levels, mastery camos, and account rank — not just play casually.

What are the Black Ops 7 free trial dates?

The Season 04 Reloaded Free Trial is a limited-time window, not permanent free-to-play. On PlayStation the trial is scheduled for July 2–6, 2026 — Sony pushed the exact dates and a live countdown to the PS5/PS4 Events tab on the console dashboard ahead of the official blog confirmation. That lines up precisely with how Activision has run every prior BO7 trial: the Season 03 trial ran April 2–6, and the launch trial ran December 16–22 — short, 4-to-7-day bursts, almost always with Double XP attached.

Activision's own Season 04 Reloaded blog frames it this way:

"The Season 04 Reloaded Free Trial is coming soon after launch, with access to Black Ops 7 Multiplayer and Zombies (excluding Multiplayer Ranked Play). Play through dozens of Multiplayer Maps, including new Season maps." — Call of Duty, Season 04 Reloaded official blog

Three fixed facts to plan around:

  • It's live now on PlayStation (July 2, 2026) and ends July 6. Treat the last day as a hard cutoff — access is pulled when the timer hits zero.
  • Ranked Play is not included. You can play Multiplayer pubs and Zombies, but not competitive Ranked.
  • Progress is permanent. Anything you unlock during the trial stays on your account and appears the moment you buy the full game — this has been true of every BO7 trial to date.

Is the Black Ops 7 free trial on Xbox and PC too?

As of July 2, the trial is confirmed and live on PlayStation first. Every previous Black Ops 7 free trial eventually rolled out across PS4/PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series XS, Steam, and Battle.net, so Xbox and PC access almost certainly follows within the same window — but at launch, PlayStation is where the countdown is live and confirmed. If you're on Xbox or PC, check the Microsoft Store / Steam / Battle.net "Black Ops 7 Free Trial" listing before assuming it's up; don't count on it until you see the free download button on your platform.

If you're on PC and you do get in, be ready for one extra hurdle that console players skip: the TPM 2.0 / Secure Boot attestation check. New and returning PC players routinely get bounced to the menu with a "Failed Attestation Status" error on their first launch. If that happens, our Warzone & Black Ops 7 Failed Attestation BIOS fix walks through the exact enable-TPM-and-Secure-Boot steps to get back in — don't waste trial hours stuck on a boot loop.

What's included in the free trial?

This is a Multiplayer + Zombies trial. Here's the content you can actually load into:

ModeWhat's in the trialNotes
MultiplayerDozens of maps, including new S4 Reloaded maps Zenith and LaunchStandard playlists (TDM, Domination, Hardpoint, Kill Confirmed, etc.)
Ranked Play❌ ExcludedThe one Multiplayer mode you can't touch on the trial
ZombiesRound-based Kowakujō (new S4 Reloaded map)The Japanese/volcanic map added mid-season
Double XP✅ Active during the windowStacks with any Double XP tokens you own
Uncaged (Nick Cage) eventPlayable — runs June 25–July 16, 2026Trial players can grind the free event track, including the AN-94

Two things worth flagging for trial players specifically:

  • The Uncaged event overlaps the trial. The "Uncaged" (Nick Cage) event runs June 25–July 16, which means during your free window you can progress the free event track and unlock the AN-94 via the Uncaged event pass — a permanent weapon you keep if you buy in.
  • Kowakujō is brand-new. If you've only heard about the new round-based map, the trial is a free way to actually play it — here's everything on the BO7 Kowakujō Zombies map so you're not wandering in blind.

Does progress carry over after the free trial ends?

Yes — and this is the single most important thing to understand before you play. Every prior Black Ops 7 free trial has transferred all trial progress to the full game, and Season 04 Reloaded is no different. Concretely, that means:

  • Weapon levels and attachment unlocks you grind stay unlocked.
  • Mastery camo progress (Gold, Diamond, Dark Matter and beyond) is saved to each weapon.
  • Account level / rank and prestige progress carries over.
  • Calling cards, event rewards, and blueprints (including the AN-94 and Summer of Action login rewards) remain on your account.

The only things you don't keep are things you never had access to — Ranked Play rank, for example, since Ranked is excluded from the trial.

This is why a free trial is worth treating strategically, not casually. You have a hard deadline and Double XP is on. Playing a few Domination matches for fun is fine, but the high-value move is to knock out the slow, permanent grinds now so that if you buy the game on July 7, you're not starting from a base gun with zero camos — you're already leveled.

How to make the most of the Black Ops 7 free trial

Four days with Double XP is a genuine head start if you spend it on the right things. Priority order for a trial window:

  • Level your favorite weapons first. Weapon XP is the slowest grind in the game and the foundation for camo unlocks. Load XP-friendly modes and rank your core loadout guns while Double XP is live.
  • Start (or finish) a mastery camo. Camo challenges are per-weapon and permanent. Getting a gun to Gold during the trial means it's Gold forever once you own the game.
  • Grind the free Uncaged event track for the AN-94 and any blueprints — free permanent unlocks that survive the trial.
  • Play Kowakujō Zombies for high XP swings and to bank round-based camo progress.
  • Skip Ranked — it's excluded, so there's nothing to earn there.

If you're a returning player who bounced off at launch and is only jumping back in for the free window, the meta and menus have changed a lot since Season 1 — our Warzone returning player guide covers what's different so you don't waste the trial re-learning the UI.

Want the head start without the grind?

The whole point of a 4-day trial is that time is the constraint. If you know you're buying Black Ops 7 anyway and you want to come out of the free window already maxed — guns leveled, camos unlocked, account ranked — that's exactly what a boost delivers, and because trial progress carries over, everything done during the window is permanent on your account.

timesaver.gg handles the grind so your free trial converts into a fully kitted account, not a base loadout:

FAQ

When does the Black Ops 7 free trial end? On PlayStation the Season 04 Reloaded Free Trial runs July 2–6, 2026, based on the dates and countdown Sony posted to the PS Events tab. Access is removed when the timer ends, so treat July 6 as a hard cutoff and finish any camo or weapon grinds before then.

Is Black Ops 7 free to keep, or just for the trial? It's a limited-time free trial, not permanent free-to-play. You can download and play the trial content for free during the window, but once it ends you need to buy the full game to keep playing. Note that Warzone itself is always free-to-play separately — the trial is specifically for the premium Black Ops 7 Multiplayer and Zombies.

Does my progress carry over if I buy the game after the trial? Yes. Every weapon level, mastery camo, calling card, account rank, and event reward you earn during the trial transfers to the full game when you purchase it. This has been true of every prior Black Ops 7 free trial, so anything you grind now is permanent.

Is the free trial only on PlayStation? It launched and is live on PlayStation first (PS4 and PS5) on July 2. Past BO7 trials also rolled out to Xbox and PC (Steam / Battle.net), so those platforms very likely follow within the same window — but confirm the free download is actually live on your platform's store before assuming access.

Can I play Ranked Play during the free trial? No. Multiplayer Ranked Play is the one mode excluded from the trial. You get full access to standard Multiplayer playlists and round-based Zombies, but Ranked is locked until you own the game.

Is there Double XP during the trial? Yes. The trial window runs with Double XP active, and it stacks with any Double XP tokens you've collected from the Summer of Action login event. That's exactly why it's worth spending the window on weapon leveling and camo grinding rather than casual play.
