A Hypercharge is the most expensive upgrade in Brawl Stars — roughly 5,000 Coins poured onto a brawler that is already maxed to Power 11. With more than 100 Hypercharges live as of August 2026 (around 104, on a roster of 106 brawlers), sinking that grind into the wrong one is the single costliest resource mistake in the game. This tier list ranks the Hypercharges worth caring about heading into Season 53 "Windstock", factors in the July 2026 balance patch, and tells you exactly which to unlock first.
Quick answer (TLDR): As of August 2026 — the tail end of Season 52 "NanoNoodles," with Season 53 "Windstock" flipping live on August 6 — the best Hypercharges to unlock are Mortis, Surge, Max, Kit and R-T: they charge fast and/or flip a fight outright on meta-relevant brawlers. Bowling Bolt (Bolt's new Hypercharge) and Starr Nova are strong A-tier picks — Starr Nova's brawler was actually buffed in the July patch. Do not spend 5,000 Coins on Bull, Pam, Frank or Buster — a Hypercharge does not rescue a brawler that is already weak. Hypercharges shift with every balance patch, so treat this as an August 2026 snapshot, not a permanent ranking.
Below: what a Hypercharge actually does, how to get one, what the latest patch changed, the full tier table, and a Coin-spending priority order.

What is a Hypercharge in Brawl Stars?
A Hypercharge is a top-tier upgrade that unlocks only at Power 11, the maximum power level a brawler can reach. Once you own it, a second meter fills as you charge and use your Super. Trigger your Hypercharged Super and the brawler is wrapped in a glowing aura that layers extra stat bonuses on top of an already-empowered Super — usually a mix of bonus damage, movement speed, shield and reload speed for the duration (Supercell support).
Three things matter for this guide:
- It is one activation per fight-cycle. You have to charge the Hypercharge meter through Super usage, so a slow-charging Hypercharge on a brawler who rarely gets his Super is far less useful than a fast one on an aggressive brawler.
- The buff is tuned per brawler. There is a rough baseline of a speed boost plus smaller damage and shield bumps, but the exact numbers change per brawler — Shelly's Hypercharge, for example, grants roughly +25% speed, +25% damage and +15% shield, while others lean almost entirely into one stat.
- The "zeta" effect is what really matters. Most S-tier Hypercharges are prized for a game-changing special effect — Mortis charging his back-to-back, Surge getting a double Super, Leon staying invisible while attacking — not the flat stat sheet.
That is why a Hypercharge tier list is not the same as a brawler tier list. A great brawler can have a mediocre Hypercharge, and a middling brawler can have a Hypercharge that transforms him. This list ranks the upgrade, weighting how much it changes the brawler and whether that brawler is meta-relevant right now.
How do you unlock a Hypercharge?
You get a Hypercharge one of three ways:
- Buy it with Coins at Power 11. The direct route costs roughly 5,000 Coins once the brawler is maxed. This is the reliable path — and exactly why prioritization matters.
- Pull one from a Legendary Starr Drop. Legendary is the rarest Starr Drop tier at just 2% of all drops (official Supercell odds). When you do hit a Legendary, community drop-data trackers put the chance of it containing a Hypercharge at around 18% — the second-most-likely Legendary reward after a Star Power. In other words, even a Legendary drop is more likely to hand you a Star Power than a Hypercharge, so don't count on RNG to build your collection.
- Hypercharge offers and Hypercharge Starr Drops. Supercell regularly sells discounted single-Hypercharge bundles in the Shop and hands out Hypercharge-guaranteed drops through events and daily rewards. Grab these when the brawler is one you actually play.
Because the grind is steep and there are over a hundred Hypercharges to chase, spreading your Coins thin is the classic trap. Decide with a tier list, not with whichever animation looks the coolest.
What changed in the August 2026 meta?
Two things shape this month's list: the July 2026 balance patch and the Season 52 → 53 rollover.
The June 2026 update ("Ramen Rebellion," Update 68) added the two newest Hypercharges — Starr Nova and Bolt's "Bowling Bolt." It also quietly clipped a couple of strong ones. Per Supercell's own release notes, "Surge — Hypercharge range reduced from 20 to 16," and 8-Bit's Hypercharge charge rate was cut by roughly 15%. Both still rank well, but they are no longer the free wins they were.
The July 2026 balance patch then reshuffled the top of the meta. On the buff side, Starr Nova — one of the two brand-new Hypercharges — actually got stronger, with her base HP raised (7,400 → 8,000) and her Super healing bumped (324 → 432), and Mandy climbed (damage 2,600 → 2,960). On the nerf side, Crow and Najia were toned down, softening two picks that had been oppressive. Net effect: the fast-charging efficiency Hypercharges (Mortis, Surge, Max, Kit, R-T) held their ground while the field around them moved.
Finally, timing: Season 52 "NanoNoodles" ends on August 6, 2026, when Season 53 "Windstock" goes live along with new Mythic support brawler Wendy (#106) and the season's Fusions power system. Windstock did not ship a fresh balance patch at reveal, so this list reflects the current July-patch meta — but expect Supercell's next round of changes to shuffle a few placements once Windstock settles. Brawl Stars Hypercharge tier list (August 2026)
Ranked by how much the Hypercharge changes the brawler and how relevant that brawler is in the current meta. This is a curated competitive snapshot cross-referenced with live win-rate data sites (brawltime.ninja, brawlvalue.com) and community tier consensus (gamsgo, noff.gg), all dated late July 2026.
| Tier | Hypercharges | Why |
|---|---|---|
| S — unlock first | Mortis, Surge, Max, Kit, R-T | Either the fastest-charging Hypercharges in the game or ones that outright win fights, all on brawlers that are strong right now. |
| A — excellent value | Bowling Bolt (Bolt), Leon, Sandy, Belle, Colt, Starr Nova, Edgar, Damian | Big impact and meta-relevant; Starr Nova and Bowling Bolt are the two newest and are trending up after the July patch. |
| B — situational | Tara, Bea, Piper, Gene, Chester, Griff, Nita | Great in the right comp or map, but Super-dependent or matchup-reliant. Unlock if you main the brawler. |
| C — low priority | 8-Bit, Spike, Crow, Colette | Fine brawlers, but the Hypercharge is a modest bump — and 8-Bit's charge rate was reduced in June while Crow took survivability nerfs. |
| F — skip | Bull, Pam, Frank, Buster, Rico | The Hypercharge barely moves a brawler that is already off-meta. Spend the 5,000 Coins elsewhere. |
Tiers move every patch — the S/A group is the safe, evergreen answer; C and F are the placements most likely to change with Windstock's next update.
S-tier: the must-unlocks
- Mortis — still the gold standard of Hypercharge efficiency. His Hypercharge meter charges faster than almost any other brawler's, so on open maps he is back in that aura state constantly. If you play Mortis at all, this is one of the safest Coin dumps in the game.
- Surge — even after the June range nerf (20 → 16), Surge's Hypercharge keeps him snowballing: sustained pressure that shreds solo targets once he is upgraded. Elite in 1v1 modes like Knockout and Bounty.
- Max — "Unlimited Energy" turns Max into a team-wide speed engine, buffing allies as well as himself. One of the best support Hypercharges and a genuine tempo swing in Brawl Ball and Gem Grab.
- Kit — a menace of a Hypercharge on an already-annoying brawler; the extra stats and utility make Kit's latch-and-control game oppressive.
- R-T — high-value on a strong control brawler; the Hypercharge amplifies R-T's zone pressure and pairs with his split-form damage.
A-tier highlights
- Bowling Bolt (Bolt) — the newest Hypercharge worth chasing. Bolt's Hypercharged Super destroys walls, opening lanes and denying cover; strong on wall-heavy maps.
- Leon — his Hypercharge lets him keep attacking while staying stealthed, on top of a speed and damage boost. Backline nightmare in Showdown and assassin comps.
- Sandy, Belle, Colt — all reliable damage-and-utility Hypercharges on brawlers that are seeing real play; Colt has looked strong since his recent buff.
- Starr Nova — one of the two newest Hypercharges, and her brawler was buffed in July (more HP, stronger Super healing). A high-A pick that is trending up — grab it if you already play her.

Which Hypercharge should you unlock first?
If you are budgeting Coins, unlock in this order:
- A Hypercharge for a brawler you already main and is meta. Impact plus reps beats a "best on paper" pick you never touch.
- Mortis or Surge, if you play either — the two highest-ceiling, safest unlocks in August 2026.
- Max, if you play a lot of 3v3 objective modes — the team-speed swing is hard to overstate.
- Kit or R-T, to round out a strong ranked draft pool.
Never unlock a Hypercharge purely to complete a collection. At 5,000 Coins each, three "for fun" unlocks is the equivalent of maxing a whole new brawler.
Which Hypercharges should you skip?
Skip the F-tier: Bull, Pam, Frank, Buster and Rico. In every case the Hypercharge is a minor stat bump on a brawler who is currently off-meta, so you are paying a premium price for a marginal, situational upgrade. If Windstock's next balance patch buffs one of them back into relevance, this section is the first thing this guide will update — check the date stamp at the top before you spend.
Frequently Asked Questions
How many Hypercharges are in Brawl Stars right now? As of early August 2026 there are more than 100 Hypercharges — roughly 104 — out of a roster of 106 brawlers. Supercell adds new ones almost every update, so the exact number climbs constantly; the two most recent additions are Starr Nova and Bolt's Bowling Bolt from the June 2026 cycle.
What is the best Hypercharge in Brawl Stars in August 2026? Mortis is the consensus best for raw efficiency because his Hypercharge charges faster than nearly any other, letting him stay in the aura state almost constantly. Surge, Max, Kit and R-T round out the S-tier. These move with every balance patch, so always check the current month's list.
How do you get a Hypercharge? Unlock it with about 5,000 Coins once the brawler hits Power 11, pull one from a Legendary Starr Drop (only a 2% drop, ~18% chance it contains a Hypercharge), or buy a discounted Hypercharge offer in the Shop. Coins at Power 11 is the only reliable route.
Did the July 2026 patch change the Hypercharge meta? Somewhat. Starr Nova was buffed (more HP and stronger Super healing) and Mandy gained damage, while Crow and Najia were nerfed. The bigger Hypercharge-specific change came in June, when Surge's Hypercharge range was trimmed from 20 to 16 and 8-Bit's charge rate was reduced. Mortis, Max, Kit and R-T were untouched and remain S-tier.
Are Hypercharges worth it for free-to-play players? For your one or two main brawlers, yes — a good Hypercharge is a real power spike. But because each costs ~5,000 Coins on a fully maxed brawler, free-to-play players should unlock one high-value Hypercharge at a time (see the tier list) rather than spreading Coins across several mediocre ones.
Will the tier list change when Season 53 "Windstock" launches? Likely, a little. Windstock goes live August 6, 2026 with new brawler Wendy and the Fusions system, but no balance patch shipped at reveal, so this July-patch-based list holds for now. Expect Supercell's next balance update to reshuffle the B, C and F tiers first — this page is refreshed monthly.
Meta data current as of the July 2026 balance patch (Season 52 "NanoNoodles," Update 68 "Ramen Rebellion"), verified against Supercell's official release notes and support pages plus live win-rate trackers, August 5, 2026.
