The Legion is the easiest Killer in Dead by Daylight to look up and the hardest to look up correctly. Behaviour rebuilt the power in Patch 8.6.0 on 2 April 2025, then spent a year shipping a power description that contradicted its own patch notes, and the biggest wiki still hosts two pages about Legion movement speed that disagree with each other. If you learned Feral Frenzy from a guide, a fandom sub-page or the in-game tooltip at any point before 2026, at least one number in your head is wrong.

This guide is pinned to the live build, Patch 10.1.2a, released 17 September 2026. Every figure below is checked against Behaviour's own patch archive rather than a mirror.

Quick answer: what is The Legion in 2026?

  • Killer: The Legion (Frank, Julie, Susie, Joey), Chapter 10: Darkness Among Us. Home realm Ormond.
  • Price: 4,500 Iridescent Shards or 250 Auric Cells, permanently half the standard original-Killer price.
  • Speed: 115% / 4.6 m/s base. Terror Radius 32 m, rising to 40 m during Feral Frenzy.
  • Power: Feral Frenzy. Sprint at 5.2 m/s, hit Survivors with Feral Slashes that inflict Deep Wound instead of a normal health state, and gain +0.24 m/s for each Survivor hit in a single Frenzy, up to 6.16 m/s.
  • Fatigue: 2.5 seconds at 2.3 m/s when the power ends. Before 8.6.0 it was 3.0 seconds at 2.07 m/s.
  • Deep Wound: a 20-second bleed-out timer that pauses while the Survivor runs or mends. Mending yourself takes 10 seconds; mending a teammate takes 6 seconds.
  • Perks: Discordance, Mad Grit, Iron Maiden.
  • 10.2.0 PTB: nothing in the notes touches Legion directly, but the Borrowed Time rework is aimed straight at Deep Wound.

How Feral Frenzy actually works

Legion holds the power button, enters Feral Frenzy, and for 11 seconds moves at 5.2 m/s with a +15° field of view, a loud directional heartbeat extending to 40 m and the ability to vault pallets and windows in 0.9 seconds without breaking anything.

The power bar holds 10 Power Charges, drains at roughly 0.91 charges per second (the 11-second window) and refills at 0.667 charges per second, so a fully spent Frenzy is back after about 15 seconds.

Feral Slash is a Special Attack, not a Basic Attack. It does three things a Basic Attack does not:

  • It applies Deep Wound to a healthy Survivor rather than injuring them in the normal sense, and it injures them on the same swing.
  • It refreshes Legion's speed. Each different Survivor hit in one Frenzy adds 0.24 m/s, so the ladder runs 5.2 → 5.44 → 5.68 → 5.92 → 6.16 m/s with four hits.
  • It reveals every Survivor within range through Killer Instinct, which is how chained slashes find the rest of the team.

Hitting the same Survivor twice, or missing, ends the power and drops you into Fatigue. That is the whole skill expression: Legion is a spreader, not a finisher, and the fastest version of the Killer is the one who never wastes a Frenzy on a Survivor who is already Deep Wounded.

The numbers most Legion pages still get wrong

This is the part worth reading twice, because it is why two guides about the same Killer can hand you two different speeds.

Trap 1: the wiki argues with itself. The main Legion page carries the current 8.6.0 values — 2.5-second Fatigue at 2.3 m/s, a +0.24 m/s ladder topping out at 6.16 m/s. The dedicated movement-speed sub-page for the same Killer still prints the pre-8.6.0 set: 3.0-second Fatigue at 2.07 m/s and a +0.2 ladder of 5.2 / 5.4 / 5.6 / 5.8 / 6.0 m/s. Both pages are on the same site. The stale one is the one built to rank for movement-speed searches.

Trap 2: Behaviour's own tooltip lied for a year. Patch 9.5.0, on 17 March 2026, contains this bug fix: "Fixed an issue where The Legion's power description incorrectly labelled the movement speed bonus from landing a Feral Slash hit as 0.2m/s." The buff landed in April 2025; the in-game text describing it was not corrected until March 2026. Every guide written from the tooltip in that window inherited the wrong number.

Trap 3: the add-on cards were never updated. Patch 8.6.0 rebalanced two add-ons in plain language — "The Mural Sketch add-on now grants an additional 0.08m/s movement speed per hit (was 0.1m/s)" and "The Mischief List add-on now increased Feral Frenzy duration by 1 second (was 2 seconds)". The community datatables still render +0.3 m/s and +2 seconds. If you are picking add-ons from a table, you are picking from 2025.

Practical version: Mural Sketch stacks 0.08 m/s on top of the base 0.24, which works out to 0.32 m/s per Survivor hit rather than the 0.3 the cards claim, and Mischief List buys you one extra second of Frenzy, not two.

Why the 8.6.0 buff happened

The March 2025 developer update spelled out the reasoning before the patch landed. Behaviour cut mending times across the board — self-mend from 12 to 10 seconds, altruistic mend from 8 to 6 — and then compensated the Killer:

"To account for reduced mending times, we've adjusted Legion's kit to ease the downtime between power uses."

And on the intent behind the speed and duration changes:

"These changes will make Legion feel like more of an active and mobile threat, reducing their reliance on a more passive status effect."

That is the design brief for the modern Legion in one sentence. The old version won by parking four Survivors in a mending loop. The current version wins by covering ground. Frenzy duration went from 10 to 11 seconds, the cooldown from 20 to 15, and Fatigue from 3.0 to 2.5 seconds — roughly one extra second of power and five fewer seconds of waiting per cycle.

The Legion's three perks

Discordance. Any Generator within 64 / 96 / 128 metres being repaired by two or more Survivors is highlighted in yellow, and the first highlight triggers a Loud Noise Notification. The aura lingers for 4 seconds after the Survivors split. It is the single best information perk for a Killer whose whole plan is arriving where multiple people already are.

Mad Grit. While carrying a Survivor, your missed Basic Attacks have no cooldown, and hitting another Survivor pauses the carried one's wiggle progress for 2 / 3 / 4 seconds. Obstructed hits do not count. Strong against body-block squads, useless against a team that respects the hook.

Iron Maiden. Opening lockers is 30 / 40 / 50% faster, and any Survivor who exits a locker screams, reveals their position for 4 seconds and is Exposed for 30 seconds. Situational on most Killers, quietly excellent into Head On and Flashbang lobbies.

If you are building around Legion's own kit, Discordance is the one to put in every loadout; the other two are matchup picks. For where they sit against the rest of the roster, see our best killer perks tier list.

Add-ons worth learning

Legion's add-on pool splits cleanly into three jobs.

Chase pressure. Mural Sketch (extra speed per hit, see the corrected figure above) and Never-Sleep Pills (a longer Frenzy at the cost of the usual starting burst) both extend how far one power use travels. Friendship Bracelet adds lunge range to the Feral Slash, which matters more than it sounds at pallets.

Status pins. Four of the yellow and green add-ons hang a 60-second status on Survivors after they mend: Blindness, Mangled, Oblivious or Broken depending on the pin. These are the closest Legion gets to a slowdown build, and they punish the exact behaviour the power forces.

Utility. Scratched Ruler shaves recovery time, the Mix Tapes each bolt on a niche effect, and Frank's Mix Tape is the one that turns Legion into a generator-damage Killer rather than a chase Killer.

Because two add-on descriptions on the community tables are demonstrably a patch behind, treat every second-value on an add-on card as unverified until you see it in the in-game menu on the current build.

How to play Legion

The mistake almost every new Legion makes is treating Frenzy as a chase tool. It is a map tool.

  • Open with Frenzy to travel, not to hit. The 40 m Terror Radius during the power is a tell, but the 5.2 m/s is worth more than the stealth.
  • Chain slashes onto different Survivors. Killer Instinct after the first hit is your targeting system; follow it rather than the Survivor you already cut.
  • Once the team is Deep Wounded, drop the power and chase one target with basic attacks. Frenzy hits do not down anyone, so the Killer who stays in Frenzy never gets a hook.
  • Use pallet vaults in Frenzy instead of breaking. Vaulting is 0.9 seconds and leaves the pallet standing for the next pass.
  • Pair Discordance with a gen-regression perk so that arriving at a two-person gen actually costs them progress. Our generator regression perk guide covers the current regression ruleset.

How to counter The Legion

Legion is one of the few Killers whose counterplay is mostly about what you do after the hit, not during it.

  • Run away rather than mending immediately. The Deep Wound timer pauses while you run. Mending inside the Killer's Terror Radius is how a spread gets converted into a down.
  • Split mending. Altruistic mending is 6 seconds against 10 for self-mending. Two Survivors mending each other clear a Frenzy spread in a fraction of the time, and the 4-second difference is roughly the length of one Frenzy cycle.
  • Break line of sight during Fatigue. 2.5 seconds at 2.3 m/s is the Killer moving at half a Survivor's speed. That is your free distance, and it is the reason the 3.0-second figure floating around older guides will make you misplay the window.
  • Do not stack on generators. Discordance is in most Legion loadouts and two-person gens are exactly what it is built to find.
  • Expect the 40 m heartbeat. A terror radius that suddenly grows is Legion entering Frenzy, usually from further away than it feels.

What Patch 10.2.0 changes for Legion

The 10.2.0 PTB notes, published 15 September 2026, do not mention The Legion, Feral Frenzy or any of its three perks. Behaviour has published no live release date for 10.2.0 — anyone quoting one is guessing.

The change that matters to this Killer is on the Survivor side. Borrowed Time is being reworked from an Endurance extension into a direct anti-Deep-Wound perk: "Whenever you gain Deep Wound while you have Endurance passively mend over 40/35/30 s." Behaviour's dev note explains the pivot:

"We added Elusive to the list of unhook protections previously but didn't like the idea of Borrowed Time extending it's duration. Instead we've opted to rework the perk to an entirely new effect."

If it ships in that state, the most-run Survivor perk in the game turns into passive mending for anyone freshly unhooked — which removes a slice of Legion's pressure in exactly the moment Legion wants to apply it. Full breakdown in our 10.2.0 perk changes article.

The 2v8 footnote nobody mentions

The Legion holds a record no other Killer does: it is the only Killer ever added to 2v8 and then removed from the mode. It was pulled in the iteration that brought in The Executioner and The Dark Lord, and it has not returned since. The current run, 2v8 V9, is live from 8 to 29 September 2026 with a 16-Killer pool that does not include Legion. Details in our 2v8 guide.

FAQ

Is The Legion good in 2026? Yes, in the specific sense that the 8.6.0 rework made the power cycle faster — 11-second Frenzy, 15-second cooldown, 2.5-second Fatigue. Legion is a strong map-pressure and information Killer and a weak chase Killer, and that has not changed.

How much does The Legion cost? 4,500 Iridescent Shards or 250 Auric Cells. Legion is one of the fifteen original Killers on the permanent half-price tier.

What is The Legion's movement speed? 4.6 m/s outside the power (115%), 5.2 m/s in Feral Frenzy, rising by 0.24 m/s per different Survivor hit in the same Frenzy to a maximum of 6.16 m/s. During Fatigue you move at 2.3 m/s for 2.5 seconds.

How long is Deep Wound? The timer runs 20 seconds and pauses while the Survivor is running or mending. Self-mending takes 10 seconds, mending another Survivor takes 6.

Why do different guides give different Legion speeds? Because Patch 8.6.0 changed them on 2 April 2025 and several widely-copied pages were never updated — including a movement-speed sub-page on the biggest wiki and Behaviour's own in-game power description, which was not corrected until Patch 9.5.0 in March 2026.

Was The Legion disabled in 2026? Yes. Legion was temporarily taken out of rotation over a power-spam exploit and brought back in Patch 9.6.0 on 28 April 2026, which states "The Legion has been re-enabled" alongside the fix for repeated attacks at the start of the Feral Frenzy cooldown.

Is HUNK a Resident Evil character in Dead by Daylight? He is a Legendary Outfit for The Legion, from the Darkness Among Us collection — not part of any Resident Evil chapter. It is the most common mix-up around this Killer's cosmetics.

Does Legion appear in 2v8? Not currently. Legion was added to 2v8 and later removed, and is not in the V9 Killer pool running 8 to 29 September 2026.
